Firefox periodically (randomly) forgets passwords

Firefox 3.6.18 on Win 7 64 bit
Randomly forgets saved passwords - doesn't seem to be any particular pattern or time-frame. Checked privacy settings and that's not the issue

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Websites_report_cookies_are_disabled (Other Solutions)
* Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
* In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
* Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Firefox won't forget passwords on restart in v. 23

I recently allowed my XP SP3 computer to upgrade from v16 to v23 (most recent beta version that Firefox forces you to have). Now, all passwords are remembered despite what I have set for them.
In all previous versions, if I did not choose to Remember Password, then Firefox would not - I did not have to set an exception. On restart, I would just have to log in again. Now after having upgraded, I cannot get Firefox to stop remembering my passwords after restart. I have cleared all cookies and cache. I have even set the exception, but it still just logs me in to my gmail and facebook.
What is wrong with the newer versions of Firefox that you can't just chose to not remember the passwords and it won't?

Sorry - I accidentally chose your answer as the solution, when I don't think it is. While what you say makes sense, I never had this problem with older versions. Once you restart Firefox, it is supposed to start a new session, even if you open the previous tabs from the last one. That is what is going wrong in this version. I should be able to restart FF, and it start a new session with previous tabs, but maybe it is not starting a new session.

  • Since installing Firefox Sync my master password is requested randomly.

Since installing Firefox Sync my master password is requested randomly. is there a way of stopping this happening.

Somewhere around Firefox 29, Firefox changed how Sync accounts work. Please see this article for more information: [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync]]. If you can't do that in Firefox 33, you may want to install Firefox 29 temporarily to do the account change, and then update to Firefox 33. This article has information on how to find clean old versions of Firefox: [[Install an older version of Firefox]].

  • Firefox saved an incorrect password. I don't know how to undo.

There is a site called "Book Movement" which I had to be reminded that the user name is refuge and the password is
cedar key. When I input the password, Firefox ignores the space, and I am shut out.
Additionally, when I went to set up an account with you, forgetting I had one? Firefox automatically input the password, but when you directed me to sign in as one with a previous acct, blank. Bottom line: Should I restore?

First, you should change your password, since this is a public forum!
Second, you can clear a saved password here:
Tools > Options > Security > Saved Passwords

  • Server forgets password -- how can I fix this?

My OS X server randomly forgets my password. I have to use the install disk to get to the utilities to reset the password. This is a major hassle for such an expensive piece of software. Has anyone got a solution? Thanks.

    Hi:
Something is really wrong somewhere. OS X server does not "forget" passwords. Honest.
If you're looking for help with OS X server, this is a great resource, but you may want to do a little homework first, and try to post questions with as much info as you can.
If you haven't already, start here
    http://www.apple.com/server/resources/
Searching discussions, and/or googling are also great places to start.
You can also use Console to look at logs, which may provide you clues and other topics to Google or search through discussions.
Also, including hardware info/configs, OS versions, and how exactly you've set up your server and how it is used, as well as what services are used /affected can be good info to share.
i.e I haven't a clue what's going on with your server, and you really ought to give as much info as you can and maybe someone smarter than I am will help out

  • I get the firefox pop up "do you want to remember this password", but it does not save it. There is no "yes" option on the pop up. How can I get Firefox to save my passwords?

I want Firefox to save my passwords as it has in the past, but now it is not doing so. I am using version 6.0.2, I see the pop up asking to remember the password, but firefox does not save the passwords. What can I do to correct this so FF starts saving my passwords?

Firefox 4 and later versions place a key icon on the location bar that allows to (re)open the dialog to save the password at any time.<br />
That pop-up dialog has a button labeled with "Remember Password".<br />
If you click the arrow next to that button then you see the other choices ("Never Remember Password for this site", "Not Now").<br />

  • I cannot sign into iCloud on my iMac.  I have read all of the help information, but that isn't working.  I cannot do anything with my system preferences - like add a new printer - because it won't log me in, sign me out, forget password doesn't work, etc.

I have been unable to log in to iCloud on my iMac.  None of the hints online have worked.  I can't sign in (with any password), sign out, the forget password doesn't work, the support button doesn't work.  It's locked.  I can't find anyway to fix this - I need to add a new printer ASAP - help!!!

The "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" window popped up a couple of weeks ago and is asking for my Apple ID password, which it will not accept,  It won't sign me out (I am not logged in), the support or forgot password buttons won't work.  With this window stuck open, I cannot access anything on system preferences.  I can't find any way to make it go away.  I have tried both my current and old Apple ID passwords, tried using FaceTime to login with the newer password, etc.

  • How can I stop Firefox from remembering a password for a site, so anyone on a shared computer can't use it?

Someone who used our home computer must have clicked "Do you want Firefox to remember this password?" when using one of my shopping sites. So now when I try to sign in to that site, the password and email are already filled in, and I just have to click. Anybody can do that and I want to stop it. Tried changing the password, but it was no good.

I am trying to get Java to work on my Firefox browser. I have followed all the suggestions on the Java website and also all that I can find on the Mozilla support.
Can anyone please help me as this is important to my work.
When I do a check on the java website it says I need a plugin; but when I try to check which plugin, there is no plug in that is available. I have checked my plug in manager and all my plugins are up to date.

  • I asked firefox to remeber a password for a website and it's the wrong password. How do I change it?

I asked Firefox to remember a password for a website and it's the wrong password. How do I change it?

The left side of the address bar contains a button you can click to get information about that site. The button usually has a little mini-icon for the site and (if it's an encrypted site) the site's name. When you are on the site in question, click that button then click the "More Information" button on the dialog that appears. Alternatively, you can use the Tools menu and click "Page Info". Once you do that (either way) click the "Security" tab at the top and you will be able to click a button to view saved passwords for that site. Delete the incorrect password from that list. You can then log off the site and log back on to have Firefox offer to remember the new password.

How to switch off screen blocking if I forget password and couldn't use iTunes?

If you are saying that you've forgotten the passcode to unlock the iPad then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode for your iTunes to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
