Firefox plug-in check kills starstable plug-in. Why?

I have 4 similar PCs running Win XP Home SP3 and firefox. On one the StarStableOnline plug-in never seemed to run properly, it always re-installed the whole game at every log-in. Runs fine then, after waiting 35 minutes to start, though. One other PC started the same mis-behaviour after a few days, and one ran OK for 2-3 weeks but stopped last Monday 17th Feb. The 4th and last one has run OK since 20th November, so far anyway.
The SSO coding team can't explain this problem, it's very rare, they say, but I have it 3 times now on 3 PCs. The plug-ins are the same version, 1.0.0.2, just different download/install dates, and I've cross-copied plug-in files and re-installed from scratch twice, all with no effect.
On 16th Feb Firefox, at start-up, did an automatic plug-in check on the latest failed PC. That seemed to cause the problem. Nothing else on that PC had changed, no new S/W and no apps run for first time. The plug-in wasn't disabled or updated, as far as I can tell.
Is there any known problem with Firefox auto-update or Mozilla Maintenance Service and Win XP ?
I have found some firefox/crash reports/pending .. files dated the 17th Feb. These might explain more. But why are they pending? and where should I send them?

I think to submit pending crash reports, you can click the crash IDs.
I'm not sure I understand the significance of reinstalling the game. Is it supposed to be stored locally? Is it saved as a Flash LSO?

  • Firefox Plug-In Checker is not working correctly, can I stop it from running?

Firefox Plug-In Checker starts every time I start Mozilla. However, it keeps showing the same plug-ins each time as being not updated. I update every time but it still keeps coming back. Can I disable the plug-in checker?

You can correct this issue by forcing the file blocklist.xml to update or wait until Firefox updates the file.<br />
That update will remove the severity="0" flags in the file that cause the problem.

  • Safari Installed Plug-Ins lists a Firefox plug-in.

I have seen many different threads related to the Coupon Printer plug-in, but I am not convinced it is actually their issue.  I have three Mac at the house and all three have the coupon printer plug-in installed.  On two, there are no issues.  On the third, the application continues to prompt to install.  After some troubleshooting, I have seen that the machine having a problem lists both the Firefox and Safari version of the plug-in in the list of installed Safari plug-ins while the two working do not.  All have both in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ directory, but the computer not working correctly is the only one that believes both are installed in Safari.  Is there some way to exclude the Firefox plug-in from loading in Safari?  Removing it does not resolve the issue, and given that the plug-in is installed in two working Mac, just not showing loaded in Safari, I don't believe this to be the correct resolution.

Which unfortunately doesn't at all answer the question.  I'm trying to understand what circumstance would cause an identical configuration and install of Safari as well as another program (in this case an Internet Plug-In) would behave differently.  I can't disable all plug-ins as then the one I want to run won't.  I want to understand why it shows both a FF plug-in and a Safari plug-in on only one of the machines but not the other two Macs (one is a 10.5 PPC Macbook, the other a 10.6 Intel iMac) which are configured with the same pieces of software.
If this was a Windows machine, there would be a registry setting I could examine.  If it were truly Linux, I could examine the RPM database.  With a Mac, there's none of that directly exposed so I cannot even understand what I could check that would provide insight into the difference in behavior.

  • Web page music loads in IE but not Firefox. Have downloaded Windows Media Player Firefox plug in but still nothing. Any other suggestions?

Can't get any sound when I open one webpage in Firefox but sound works in Internet Explorer. sound files are .wmv and mp3 format.
I have Windows Media Player Firefox Plug in installed and set to always activiate. Also have Quicktime & Shockwave activated. Any suggestions. Operating system is Windows 7. Thanks

There are a couple issues here that might be the culprit. One is that the player is hidden using a variety of techniques and Firefox often suppresses hidden content because it can be annoying not to be able to control your experience with media. Another possible issue is that the embed tag doesn't specify a content type. Firefox appears to be guessing anyway, and in my case asking whether to activate the QuickTime plugin, but then nothing plays.
To test what would happen if both of those were addressed, you can run this script using Firefox's Web Console. It grabs the address of the media and creates a new embed that is visible and specifies the content type. Here's how to use it:
Select the following long line of code and copy it:
    function reEmbedMpeg(em){var el=document.createElement("embed"); el.setAttribute("type","audio/mpeg"); el.setAttribute("src",em.src); el.setAttribute("style","height:20px;width:200px;position:fixed;right:0;top:0"); document.body.appendChild(el);} reEmbedMpeg(document.querySelector("embed"));
When viewing the problem page, press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab.
Paste the code next to the caret (>>) on the bottom line and press Enter to run it. A player should appear in the upper left corner, the progress bar should show downloading and then the content should play.
Obviously it's not practical to hack every web page you find, but if this is your site or you would be interesting in contacting the owner, hopefully this post will help in getting this working in Firefox.

First of all your Flash plugin is out of date: Use Adobe's own page to test your version of the plug-in and to update it www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ -- evidently the same information is not getting to the Mozilla plug-ins test. That might fix your problem if your home page uses Flash such as a news site.

Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that that there are no longer Firefox or plugin-container processes left on the Processes tab in the Task Manager. Otherwise session restore will reopen the page(s) from the previous session.

  • How do I stop firefox 29 from checking compatability of addons at every start.

Firefox 27 started checking addon at exery start. Then wanted to delete third party addon ubuntu modification that is used by ubuntu to check for updates.
Went to Ubuntu software center and deleted Firefox. Restarted Ubuntu 12.4 LTS reinstaled Firefox.
Now new version 29 with same problem. How do I fix / stop firefox from checking addon at every start of firefox.

You can check for problems with preferences.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Resetting_preferences
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete possible addons.json and addons.sqlite files.

I opened iCal back up, all the dates were blank, so i started to type events into a date.
As soon as I started to double click a date to type an event, magically all the events in all the months reappeared.
I'm still puzzled why it acted this way and if I did delete something that caused it to act this way.

You can create a user profile to limit the idle time of sessions.
    PMON will garbage clean periodically.

After an update to firefox I keep getting a warning from my Firewall (McAfee) "Program wants internet access". I have permission set at outgoing for firefox and updates checking off, to check that request is valid so what does it need access for

This was not a Firefox update, but a piece of malicious software you have inadvertently downloaded from a site called http://ffftp.co.cc/ which is impersonating Firefox. I discovered this as soon as my Zonealarm requested permission for "Golds" to access the internet. Golds??!! However I couldn't find a file with this name installed on my computer.
You should delete the file you downloaded and certainly do not allow internet access to any suspicious program. If you have already given permission, scan your PC immediately for any virus, malware, etc. Best of luck.
