Firefox : Plugin crashes constantly

I am on firefox and the test page shows this : You have version 10,1,53,64 installed. I have treid uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. Windows 7 with firefox 3.6.6.
When i try viewing youtube videos the plugin just crashes instantly.
Any ideas?

Hi Q2, This is what has puzzled me since last year. If the DLM is just to download then why are all of these files Installed and the various add ons? My experience with the DLM, etal has been that they conflict with the browser(s) and cause issues with Installing Flash Player.
Also I am beginning to see more and more of these with Firefox as opposed to be with IE. Also when these are Installed with IE, I can have the user readily find out which file is dependent on which. But with FF, I'm not sure. I am going to assume that the getplus 1.62.63 plug-in and the Adobe DLM in extensions are dependent on the NOS files.
So, go back to the NOS folder (bin) and right click on getplus_helper.dll and Remove or Delete whichever option that gives you. Then do the same with the gp.ocx and the getplusplus_adobe.exe. Then after those three are Removed/Deleted, Delete the NOS folder.
Then I would reboot for good measure.  Then go back to the FF plug-ins and see if that getplus 1.62.63 and the Adobe DLM in extensions have been removed as a result.
Post back your results.
Thanks,
eidnolb

• Firefox 5 crashes constantly when multiple pages are open. What's going on?

I was made by your team to update from Firefox 4.x to Firefox 5. Ever since Firefox stops responding and often crashes.
Your new feature to pin pages in the taskbar is great and I currently have 10 pages pinned that I always want up. One of them is Google+.
While in Google+ I see Firefox hang constantly. I'm not sure if it's your problem or Google's. I hadn't come to you because I assumed it was Google's problem. But I was just on Quora and it happened there as well.
Please contact me so we can figure this out. I love Firefox and I rely on it on a daily basis to get things done at work and in life in general.
Thanks

First, you can terminate a running Firefox process using the Task Manager.
Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch it
Usually by this time, Firefox is no longer listed on the Applications tab, but if it is, try terminating it there.
Click the Processes tab and look for both of these:
plugin-container.exe (used to run Flash and many other plugins)<br>
firefox.exe
Click each and then click End Process.
After that, you can close the Task Manager and you should be able to start Firefox.
As for why that happens, you could check this article: Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix -- skip to the section awkwardly entitled "Firefox hangs when you quit it"

• Firefox is crashing constantly for no apparent reason. Updated Firefox and Mac OS from Tiger to Leopard. Help!

For the last few days Firefox crashes no matter what I am doing. It has crashed twice while looking at this help page. Mac OS 10.6.7

The crashes have been fixed today. Starting with this nightly build:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2014/06/2014-06-29-08-15-12-mozilla-aurora/
I would advise you to switch back to the release build of Firefox and not the beta or alpha (Aurora) versions of Firefox.
I'm a nightly build tester myself and I have a separate release build installed that I can use if I run into problems with the nightly build. If you don't like the idea of having 2 types of the Firefox browser installed, please just install the release version.
Because having the aurora Firefox as your only browser put you in a very bad situation where you were constantly crashing and frustrating yourself just to sign up on this forum. And I don't recommend the beta or aurora browser to users who just want their browser to work b/c one day they will be finding themselves fighting off mysterious/annoying bugs.
So please take that suggestion under advisement. :)

• Flash plugin crashes constantly

I just purchased a HP laptop with Windows 7 Home. 64 bit.
When i first booted it up, I installed firefox and google chrome, both the newest versions. I logged onto facebook, and could do everything just fine. Played 4 different games that use flash and they ran perfectly.Worked for roughly 2 hours.
Then suddenly it stopped. I got the grey screen that says "the adobe flash plugin has crashed" I've sent like 6 error reports. I tried it in IE8 (both 32 and 64 bit), FF 3.6.8, and Google Chrome (both of those 32 bit, since flash player doesnt work with 64 bit)  (whatever the latest version is for chrome as i already uninstalled it in frusrtation) and it freezes and/or crashes as soon as the game loads. It even freezes when I go to adobe's pages to check my version of flash. It's WIN 10,1,82,76, though ive had to load the page about 4 times to scribble that down since it crashes.
I've looked up every help file I can. I've cleared cache, checked cookie settings, made sure all pop up blockers are disabled, turned off all security settings and firewalls. I've unstalled and reinstalled flahs player at least 6 times and uninstalled and reinstalled firefox 3 times. I went into the about:config settings and adjusted the timeout to -1 rather than the default 45....which did nothing except keep the page frozen then giving me the gray screen which at least let me go to a different webpage.
I've turned off hardware accelaration in the flash settings as well.
I've rebooted and computer on 4 occasions now, and even shut it down and left it sit for 6 hours just in case it just needed a rest. Still nothing, and I'm getting desparate, as I have never had this problem before on any machine I have run. I thought maybe it was a firefox issue however it's happenening on IE and chrome, I just dont get the handy "error report" page since it appears that is a firefox feature. IE and chrome just freeze, leaving me no option but to go into task manager and cancel them or reboot. Both scenarios I have left the screen alone for half an hour in case it was being REALLLLLLLY slow. No luck.

BAD ATTITUDE...the poor frustrated guy cant get a fix, and you are p*ssed at him for being frustrated....I appreciate that you are trying to help, but if you cant fix it easily you give up....how about you spend some time like I did and get intouch with Adobe to remind them that their users are having a lot of issues with Flash that they are not addressing?...may save you some time helping in the long run....unless you enjoy the suffering of others!

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

You could look at firefox crashes, that includes troubleshooting advice and tips.
If after following that advice and doing updates all browsers crash; that tends to indicate a system wide problem rather than a Firefox specific problem.

Ever since my PC was reformatted and Firefox was installed, crashes have occurred throughout the day. First, Firefox goes into the "Not Responding" mode and then it will just crash! Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

• Firefox 4 crashes constantly, on opening, different pages, etc. Old firefox worked fine

I updated to Firefox 4 on my vista laptop. I am running no redirect and a script blocker, both compatable with firefox 4. Firefox 4 keeps crashing, will keep loading the "well this is embarrassing" page, even when it starts normally, I will load a page, and within a few minutes, firefox will redirect to that page, then crash

This is happening to me every single time I leave firefox unattended (minimized) for a a few hours. When I come back and open a new tab it just freezes out...
This is so frustrating and it never happened with old firefox.
I'm running on Windows 7.
PLEASE HELP!

• Quicktime firefox plugin crashes firefox

when i try to watch quicktime video file ni a website i get error "the plug-in performed illegal operation" and when i click OK it crashes firefox.
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/1497/indexphpbz3.jpg
the same happens with IE.
http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/9427/inde2xphpst6.jpg

I was having the same problem. I just uninstalled and then re-downloaded quicktime today and re-installed it. It seems to be working fine now.
However, I'm still having problems watching .mov files with the actual player (not in the browser) on Windows Vista and have resorted to using VLC which seems to work just fine as a substitute.

• Quicktime Plugin crashes on Firefox 11&12. No problem with IE 8

I keep getting notifications that my quicktime plugin has crashed. I have the latest Quicktime Edition 7.7.1 and Firefox 12 installed. This does not happen with IE 8. OS is Windows XP Pro SP3.
This is the website on which Firefox plugin crashes for me consistently. http://www.janalea.com/. It's my realtors website.

Quicktime plugin is to be honest a piece of crap, slows down Firefox and causes problems like this. As Quicktime is maintained by Apple, you should complain to them.
Personally, I recommend you disable it completely and install VLC media player, it has a plugin component that you can use instead.

• Firefox crashing constantly

Firefox is up to some old tricks again. it's started crashing constantly and is unusable in the current state. After between 2 to 5 tabs are open, it will become completely unresponsive. If I move a desktop away and back in my window manager, the whole thing will be just a grey box. I usually kill it with "killall firefox"
Things I've tried to fix it:
+ New profile.
+ firefox -safe-mode
+ removing all extensions
+ restarting
+ pacman -S firefox to reinstall
+ running as root, sudo firefox
Nothing seems to fix it! Can you please help me get my browser back?

Is there some output the moment it freezes? (pretty unlikely, though)
No output I can see. Tried this in multiple window managers.
Does the CPU usage rise above average?
None more than normal, 5-20% cpu
Is it site-specific, or will just visiting any random sites cause this?
Any random site

as for root, I tried that because someone suggested running as a different user.
I think this should technically be called a "hang" instead of a "crash" as the window stays open but is nonresponsive.
I've now tried:
Firefox refresh. New profile. Renaming the ~/.mozilla.firefox folder as you suggested.
Still dies, sometimes during startup.

• Firefox crashes constantly even in safe mode

Crashes began before upgrading to 8.0.1 and now continue.
Crashes constantly even in safe mode.
Have updated firefox and plugins.
Have run malwarebytes and superantispyware.
Crashes while surfing with no discernible pattern and then often crashes once or twice on restart of firefox.

hello olesker, it was initially thought that this kind of crash as contained in your crash id was already fixed in firefox 11, but obviously it's still around - the bug got reopened and will be worked upon by mozilla developers on a high priority.

• I looked on my C:\ for plugin-container.exe and deleted the file as it kept slowing down my computor, however now when I load firefox it crashes, how can I re-install this plugin to disable it properly?

My computor had been overly slow which was not normal when looking at processes running in task manager I found plugin-container.exe to be using alot of memory. I looked online and found that this was an update of firefox which was not essential, I then looked on my C:\ drive for the application and deleted it hoping this would solve the problem as I could not find it when looking at my firefox plugins. However now when I open firefox it quickly crashes, how can I reinstall this? Do I need to reinstall firefox completely or is there a more simple solution? I have done the firefox plugin check and it can find no problems.

Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.
If you want to disable plugin-container, see the section on "Disabling crash protection" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins

• Firefox Flash plugin crashes when FF launched with "Run as different user"

I often start Firefox in Windows 7 (x64) using the "Run as different user" mechanism. After upgrading my Flash plugin to v11 (11.8.800.94), the browser will hang for several minutes when visiting any page that contains Flash content. When Firefox becomes responsive again, scrolling a page with Flash content will cause the app to hang again. Disabling the Flash plugin eliminates the problem.
It seems the plugin is silently crashing -- I'm not alerted to a plugin crash in any way (no dialog or yellow "Flash player crashed" notice at the top of the window), but after FF hangs I will see a new crash report entry in the FF about:crashes list. An example crash report is available at https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/ff452291-b5b2-44e4-a172-416792130818
The plugin does not crash when Firefox is running under the same account that is logged onto Windows interactively -- only when running FF as a different user. For example, if I log onto Windows with user account Adam and launch FF normally, the problem does not exist. If I close FF and launch it as user Bob (shift+right-click Firefox Shortcut, choose "Run as different user"), the problem will appear. However, if I log into Windows as user Bob and launch FF normally, the problem does not exist.
I have tried the following as troubleshooting steps, all to no effect:
Create new Windows user accounts to rule out potential Windows or Firefox profile issues.
Use another PC (also Windows 7 x64). The same behavior occurs on both PCs
Disable AVG antivirus.
Upgrade Firefox to latest version (23.0.1).
Disable Flash hardware acceleration.
Give both user accounts full local admin privileges.
Can anyone suggest something to try next?
Update: Per the troubleshooting instructions at < http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071?tstart=0 >, I was able to eliminate the problem by adding the line
ProtectedMode=0
to my C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg file to disable Flash Player Protected Mode. There are instructions on that page for submitting a Protected Mode-related bug, and I will follow through with that.

Maybe you did't understand my previous statement. There are no crashes in FF 3.6, There is no previous evidence FF 14 was ever here, I completely uninstalled all trace of Firefox, no app data, no preferences, no cache. I will upgrade to FF14 so I can send IDs,
so here ya go.

• How to find out WHY Flash Player 11.2.202.236 plugins crash in Firefox ESR 10.0.6 on 64-bit Linux

Flash crashes dozens of times a day and I am trying to figure out WHY.
I have the recommended latest player & browser for my operating system.
The only diagnostic information I have is that the crashes seem to occur when a few tabs are open with videos loading in them and when any one video is closed, flash then locks up the browser for about 30 seconds, and then ALL the videos that were loading in separate tabs are dumped & say that the plugin crashed.
Details about the system from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
1. Flash player version: 11.2.202.236
2. Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64 (64-bit)
3. Browser: Firefox Firefox ESR 10.0.6
This is the correct set of components.
Debugging, I've modified the about:config dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to any value of 10 seconds to 45 seconds (the default), but it doesn't seem to make a difference in the number of crashes.
Any idea how to get more diagnostic information?

Unfortunately, there's nothing in "/var/crash" after the numerous flash crashes so I'm not sure where to look next.
The 'dmesg' command reports:
npviewer.bin[16884]: segfault at 340 ip 00007f26bda22ab0 sp 00007fffa8abbe78 error 6 in libflashplayer.so[7f26bd68d000+1179000]
Bringing up the CentOS 6 "Applications->System Tools->System Monitor", I see the numerous Flash crashes appear to have some relationship with "npviewer.bin", which uses the "/usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so" shared object module and which has numerous "open files", one of which is "/home/<username>/.xsession-errors".
Looking at "/home/<username>/.xsession-errors", we find these lines, which may be useful.

• FireFox opens & Adobe Flash Plugin crashes in a WOT "automatic" download.

WOT “automatically downloads” on a separate tab every time I start FireFox. Almost every time I start FireFox the Adobe Flash Plugin crashes in the WOT automatic download and ties up my PC. The problem does not occur with Internet-Explorer which I seldom use.
1- I removed WOT and re-installed it, but it continued the same.
2- I reinstalled the Adobe Flash Plugin which I always keep up to date.
3- Please work this out.
4- Why must WOT automatically download on a separate tab every time I start FireFox? It is very annoying.
