Firefox plugin

Firefox say that the adobe acrobat plugin is vunerable and needs to be updated. When I click on update and try to download adobe says it is already installed. I went back to the firefox pluin page after attempting to download and it still says that the plugin needs to be updated. How do I fix this? Also how do I check to make sure that the version I have is the right one?

Firefox (since version 20) has it's own PDF viewer built in. Personally I don't like it, because it's incompatible with a great many PDFs that are online. That said, here's how to "disable" Firefox's PDF Viewer and use Reader:
Download and run the Adobe cleaner to remove Reader completely.
Download and run the installer again.
Open reader and accept the license agreement. Close Reader.
In Firefox make sure you have at least two (2) tabs open - (Ctrl+T opens a new tab)
In the address bar of one tab, type "about:config" - minus the quotes, of course
You'll see a warning. Click "I'll be careful, I promise" and continue to the configuration page.
There's a search bar at the top. Type "js" - again, minus the quotes.
In the results you'll see pdfjsviewer.disabled with a vaule of false. Click it once, then right click it and choose Toggle to make the value "True".
Close that tab.
Click Tools>Options and go to the Applications tab
Locate Adobe Acrobat Document (or Portable Document File (PDF)) in the list and click the drop-down to select "Use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)". (Mine doesn't have that because I also have Acrobat Pro installed)
Click OK.
Click Tools>Addons to see that the Acrobat plugin is installed
Close and restart Firefox. PDFs should now open in a browser window with the Reader plugin.

    the message:" Mozilla Firefox plugin-container has stopped working properly" appears regularly in my maintenance center. I am on Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.17

    I had the same type of failure. It was caused by a FF upgrade from V4 to V9.1. Dearing 1955 did not say what version caused the problem. My USB ports started acting up. I could not install the Webcam that was installed before. The HP Scanner of my OJ 8500 stopped working (USB). Did get it to work via Wireless. Removing FF did not clear the problem. Believe I have infected USB driver now.

  • Firefox Plugins Check says I need new Quicktime - but I don't

    The Mozilla "Plug-ins Check" page says I have an outdated version of QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.3. So, I click the link to update it. Which takes me to Apple's website. Where I download a new version of QuickTime 7. So I download it -- so far, so good -- but then, when I go to install it, the Install Manager says that I ALREADY have the most current version of QuickTime (version 10) on my Mac, and it won't let me proceed.
    So, now what? I can't find just a "plug-in" for Quicktime on Apple's website -- the only thing to download seems to be all of Quicktime. Should I disable the Quicktime 7 plug-in on Firefox? If I do, what will happen?
    I am running Mac OS 10.6.3 and QuickTime Player 10.0 (113), and Firefox 3.6.3.
    Thanks!
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == I ran the Mozilla Plugin checker

    The Firefox Plugins check URL does not distinguish at all between the different versions of OS X and different Apple OS X compatible computers, and the different versions of plugins for Firefox different versions of OS X, in the messages it generates.
    Therefore:
    a G3 PPC CPU machine user running OS X 10.3.9 (7W98) PPC or OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167) Intel;
    a G4 or G5 PPC CPU user running OS X 10.4.11 (8S165) PPC or OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) UB;
    an Intel CPU user running OS X 10.4.11 (8S165) Intel or OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) UB;
    will ALL get messages relating to updates (of ALL types, not only QuickTime, but also including Java, Microsoft Silverlight, and others) that are compatible (at this time) with OS X 10.6.0 (10A432) Intel - OS X 10.6.5 (10H574) Intel, completely regardless as to whether they can actually run under the different versions of OS X.
    Furthermore:
    1) A number of G3 PPC CPU machines did not ship with enough VRAM (16 MB VRAM minimum required - 64 MB VRAM or higher recommended) to be officially supported under QuickTime 7 builds; If the G3 PPC CPU machine is a tower models with PCI slots, then it is possible to upgrade to a PCI video card with more VRAM to meet those hardware requirements, but G3 CPU iMac, iBook, and PowerBook users have to stay with QuickTime 6.5.2 or QuickTime 6.5.3 (some OS X users have QuickTime 6.5.3 for Panther and Tiger builds installed, from what Apple's "Software Update" used to provide...), as the VRAM cannot be upgraded on non-tower models.
    Ridiculously, QuickTime 7.6.4 is the highest version that Apple supports under OS X 10.4.11 (8S165) PPC or OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) UB, and, OS X 10.4.11 users running Fiirefox 3.6.12 will get information directing them to update to QuickTime 7.6.6
    QuickTime 7.6.5 and 7.6.6 are supported under OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) UB (there is no real reason that Apple couldn't have supported QuickTime 7.6.5 and 7.6.6 builds under OS X 10.4.11 (8S165) PPC or OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) UB as well, as it's the same code base, besides the fact that Safari v4.1.3 (4533.19.4) for OS X 10.4.11 (8S165) PPC and OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) UB was just issued by Apple, so the 15 million G4 and G5 PPC users get updates for OS X 10.4.11 without getting a QuickTime 7 update keeping pace)
    The new QuickTime X is for OS X 10.6.x ONLY (currently OS X 10.6.0 (10A432) Intel - OS X 10.6.5 (10H574) Intel), and uses a different code base than QuickTime 7. Therefore, no one expects QuickTime X for OS X 10.4.11 builds, although QuickTime X still could be ported for the most recent OS X 10.5.x build, if Apple wanted to.
    In conclusion, be forewarned as well, that before updating any version of QuickTime 7 or installing OS X 10.5.x or OS X 10.6.x, OS X users should always back up ALL the contents of these folders:
    /Library/QuickTime
    and
    System/Library/QuickTime
    and
    ~/Library/QuickTime
    as some of Apple's installers and updaters can wipe the QuickTime files (codecs and components), installed in those locations.
    I hope this information helps shed some light on these subjects...

  • I have updated my Adobe Acrobat plugin three times today but the firefox plugin check says it is out of date, a problem as I repeatedly encounter "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed" when I attempt to download pdfs.

    I am attempting to download pdf's from a library search on JSTOR. I can view the pdf but cannot download them as they say "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". I have been to the firefox plugin check and have updated Adobe Acrobat three times in the last hour, but it still says my plugin is not up to date. This leads me to believe that this may be the source of my crash errors.
    I updated Adobe Flash from the same firefox plugin check page and after one try it now says I am up to date, so my system is obviously accepting these updates.
    Help!!!!!

    The following solution is useful for people who have the full version of Acrobat 9, but are getting the error message "the Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". You probably want the features in the full version of Acrobat, but still need to be able to open PDF files from your Firefox browser.
    Go to Tools > Options > Applications. Scroll down and change all of the Adobe Acrobat files to open with Acrobat 9 (or whatever version you have) instead of "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)". This may not be as handy as having it use Acrobat inside the Firefox browser, but it will still let you open PDF files without having to uninstall the full version of Acrobat. Hope this helps.

  • FireFox plugin (Adobe Acrobat 10.1.9.22) isn't highlighting searched words, anymore

    Hello, everyone.
    I worked on a project, last year, that created Solr collections of PDF files, and allowed users to search the PDFs for whatever keywords the user enters.  One of the nice things about the project was that the FireFox plugin could read the keyword(s) entered by users and highlight them in the PDF being displayed within the browser.
    When I first started on that project, I think we were using FireFox 17.  NetAdmins recently upgraded everyone's browsers to FF24.4 (plugin Acrobat 10.1.9.22) and this highlighting feature seems to have been removed.  OR, it could be that code needs to be updated in order for it to work as it once did.
    What do I need to do to get the keyword highlighting in PDFs functional, again?  Or has the plugin been modified so that it won't work, anymore?  (This is a feature that our customer really likes.)
    V/r,
    ^_^

    It's not enough that the Adobe plugin is installed. You have to make sure it is actually being used... See here:

  • Mozilla Firefox plugin-container has stopped working properly

    Mozilla Firefox plugin-container has stopped working properly. FOR THE UMPTEENTH DAMN TIME... HOW DO I FIX THIS on Firefox 3.6.13!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
    ''edited by a moderator - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Forum+and+chat+rules+and+guidelines ''

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Adobe Reader Firefox Plugin

    I am running Fedora 8 (kernel 2.6.23.9) with Adobe Reader 8.1.1 on a Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram. When I use the Firefox browser (2.0.0.10) to read a PDF document, a process named acroread is started. I assume this is done by the Adobe Reader Firefox plugin. After you leave the document the acroread process begins to use 40-60 percent of the CPU and never ends. Exiting the browser does not stop the acroread process. It continues to run away. After a couple of attempts the kill command will end this acroread process. At one time I had four of these runaway processes running at once. I assume that every time I entered a PDF document in the browser it starts a new acroread process. This problem does not happen when you use the Adobe Reader outside of the browser on local PDF files. Is there something I can collect to help solve this problem? Is this a known problem?

    Experiencing same memory leak problem on Fedora 8 Kernel 2.6.24.3-34 x86_64, glibc 2.7-2,
    with FireFox 2.0.0.08, 2.0.0.10, 2.0.0.12, and 2.0.0.13
    and AdobeReader 8.1.1 and 8.1.2
    b Observations when running any version of FireFox:
    *1-when reading a pdf file, System Monitor displays a new process called "ld-linux.so.2";
    *2-when getting off the pdf file, process "ld-linux.so.2" remains active;
    *3-when reading a new pdf file, another "ld-linux.so.2" is started;
    *4-when closing FireFox, one or several "ld-linux.so.2" processes remain active and become runaway processes;
    *5-these "ld-linux.so.2" runaway processes eat-up about 1MB per second until system freezes.
    b Another observation:
    *When starting Adobe Reader, System Monitor does not display "acroread", it displays "ld-linux.so.2"
    Adobe Reader launcher uses a script called "acroread"; this script launches the binary either directly
    or through "/lib/ld-linux.so.2".
    b Further observations:
    *1-In FireFox, when Adobe Reader is launched through "/lib/ld-linux.so.2", it becomes a runaway process.
    *2-On the other hand, when Adobe Reader is launched directly,
    ]-System Monitor displays "acroread"
    ]-acroread always terminates as it supposed to do.
    b Solutions:
    * 1-add a symbolic link as follows:
    ]ln -s ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.3
    *2-or install Package redhat-lsb as follows:
    ]yum install redhat-lsb
    b Conclusion:
    It appears that "/lib/ld-linux.so.2" is not handling the "term signal" received from FireFox when exiting a pdf page. When Adobe Reader is started directly, it does handle the "term signal" received from FireFox and terminates correctly.
    b Outstanding Question:
    Is "/lib/ld-linux.so.2" supposed to handle the "term signal"? If so, this is where the bug is because it does not. If not, why is it used to launch Adobe Reader?
    Home my many hours of investigations can help someone.
    b Note
    Sorry. Problem is NOT entirely solved here! Still some memory leaks at times.

  • I am getting an error saying "Your computer doesn't seem to support any version of Media Player". When I look at my list of plugins I do see that I have Window Media Player Firefox Plugin 1.0.0.8. Why am I getting this error?

    I am trying to load a page & I get the error "Your computer doesn't seem to support any version of Media Player". I then go to the tools & to add ons & to plugins. There under the plugins is Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin 1.0.0.8. It is enabled. My question is what does this error mean? Do I have the Media Player I need or not?

    Notes:
    1) Please use the code tags when posting code or JNLP/HTML. It helps to retain indentation and avoids asterisks and plus sings being interpreted as formatting marks. To do that, select the code/JNLP etc. and click the CODE button seen on the Plain Text tab of the message posting form.
    2) That launch file is invalid. You might check it (and the project in general) using JaNeLA.
    3) The only place that SimpleSerial class could be, that the JRE would find, is in the root of aeon.jar. Is it actually there?

    Pierwszy z nich w:
    C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player
    a drugi w:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins
    ....właśnie przed chwilką wpadłem na rozwiązanie problemu. Trzeba zawartość folderu "Plugins" w lokalizacji:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    skopiować do:
    C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player.
    Pozdrawiam.

    There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
    You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
    You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

    By using a hosts file for ad blocking.
    Please give me an example

    I don't like this approach too much actually.
    I prefer Adblock Plus for Firefox and Privoxy for everything else (uzbl).

  • Java 1.8.0_31 for Solaris Sparc missing Firefox plugin

    Until now I didn't realize that Oracle planned to deprecate (Oracle) Solaris in favor of Linux.
    Since updates to Java 7 will be ending in April 2015, I thought it would be a good idea to migrate to Java 8.  I installed Java 1.8.0_31 on our Solaris 10 server and then tried to configure the Java plugin for Firefox.  Low and behold!  It is no longer supplied with the Java installation.  Apparently, when Oracle removed 32-bit support for java in Solaris, they removed Java Web Start (javaws.jar) and the Firefox plugin (libnpjp2.so) with it.  As I searched the web in vain for a solution, I recall that additional java functionality has been removed from the Java 8 build for Solaris as well, but I can't recall what they are right now.
    Of course, Linux remains fully supported!!  Too bad we invested in an all-Oracle solution for our aging Oracle Forms applications.  I guess now we need to stay on Java 7 until we can migrate off the high performance (Oracle) Solaris dinosaur to a better supported Linux platform.  Thanks Oracle for providing no risk solutions.
    I've submitted a ticket to Oracle Support regarding how to get past this issue, but I thought I'd throw it out here too:
    How can I run a java app (like Oracle Forms) using Firefox on Solaris without a Java plugin?

    Obviously Sun (excuse me, Oracle) does not intend to support the solaris-10/sparc/firefox-3.6 combination. Firefox 3.6 requires the NPAPI and/or NPRuntime interfaces to java, but oracle does not provide the new "libnpjp2.so" java plugin with the jre-6u18-sparc-solaris java download.
    A search at www.oracle.com does not turn up any support announcement about this. You have to learn it the hard way. :(
    If you want to continue to use sparc-solaris, downgrade to firefox-3.5 so you can use the old libjavaplugin_oji.so module. Otherwise run Linux or Mac OS X to stay in the unix camp.
