Firefox prints characters instead of text.

Trying to print from gmail, the text comes out in characters and blocks. If I use print preview and then print, it prints correctly. I have tried diabling all addons and that did not work. Prints correctly in IE.

Is the only way to fix that to get rid of Times
Phonetic?
Yes, or deactivate it. Times Phonetic like Helvetica Fractions is intended for use in non-unicode systems like OS 9 and confuses OS X Cocoa apps.
For Unicode fonts with the same symbols you can check

  • PDF displaying characters instead of text

    I have a user that is trying to view a PDF using Acrobat X and has random characters display instead of text.  Other users with Acrobat X are able to view the document fine as well as other users who have previous version of Reader.  I have tried running a repair on the installation as well as disabling protected mode at startup.  Any idead on what to do?  This is on the display for this user not printing.
    Thanks,

    As Jogn said you would have to use the planning connection. The smart lists used in planning are not in Essbase. Essbase stores the smartlist ID number not the text value.

  • Reader X prints codes instead of text

    I just upgraded to adobe X and when I try to print multiple copies of a form the first one or two come out fine and then the rest of them come out all garbled up.  Anyone know how to fix this or to roll back to the previous version of adobe?

    This sounds like a printer driver problem.
    I think you use a PCL 5 or PCL XL driver that has problems to process the data correctly.
    Try the option "Print as Image" under File > Print > Advanced.

  • How can i use text only instead of text plus the folder icon in the bookmarks toolbar; older firefox allowed this.

    I prefer using text only instead of text plus a folder icon in the bookmarks toolbar because it used less space and I can display more bookmark folders in that toolbar. Is that possible in Firefox 4.0? It was possible in the earlier versions of Firefox. If it is possible in Firefox 4.0 how do I do that? Thank you.

    First install the "Stylish:" extension then you have thousands of styles available to choose from, most consist of only a few lines, and you can modify them to suit yourself.

  • I am getting strange numeric symbols or tiles instead of text when using Firefox. Repeated reloads and virus scans have not fixed it. I can't find a patch. Help! I hate IE!

    Each time I open Firefox, I get blocks or tiles of numbers for each character instead of text. The tiles appear as composites of four digits, stacked two by two. At some websites, normal text does appear in boxes but mostly as this numeric gibberish. The functionality of the Firefox software does not seem to have been affected. But if I can't read it, I can't use it.

    Try to set the pref <b>gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    *Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.

  • Officejet 6310 prints solid black line instead of text.

    Good day. My officejet 6310 has started printing a 3/8" solid black line instead of text. I've replaced both color and black cartridges. I've also run align and clean cartridges. Does anyone have helpful suggestions?

    This type of result is often due to errors in the HP printer drivers. Several things can be tried. Sometimes, using a tested driver for an older, but compatible printer will do the job. A lot of folks used the use the HPLJ2 driver even with HPLJ3 and 4 systems. Another option is to try to print as a graphic. At this point, I can only suggest playing around with things. A lot of folks like the graphic driver aspect instead.
    You might also consider printing to the printer in a PS mode rather than PCL if that option is available.
    I am only suggesting things I have seen tried by various folks. I don't have a good explanation.

    Still the same results.
    Do you have any ideas what could be the reason for that problem?

  • Is there a way to change the default action for clicking a "Print" button on a website to open Print Preview instead of the default system printer?

    When I am at a website that contains a button for printing (Gmail, for example), is there a way to change the way that functions, so that when I click "Print", Firefox will open Print Preview instead of taking me to the default system printer?

    You can apply  system-wise "negative" color effect under Settings > General > Accessibility, by toggling the White and Black switch - and, in iCab Mobile (and some other, better browsers / PDF readers), its own "night mode" negative color scheme.
    Otherwise, no, you can't do anything else except for asking third party app authors to add selectable back/froeground (=text) colors to their apps.

    Any help welcome

    I think you're confused by what you're seeing.
    When I print > preview your on-line page in Firefox, I see the page content and links -- which may look like code to you, but they're not revealing anything abnormal.   These are just links to other pages.
    detailed_page.php?product_id=307-Yamaha-P105-Digital-Piano-in-White
    You have these external style sheets but they are designated for screen & projection media only.
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" href="style.css" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" href="jcart/css/jcart.css" />
    Your print styles are actually driven by boilerplate.css towards the bottom of the page.
    /* ==|== print styles =======================================================
       Print styles.
       Inlined to avoid required HTTP connection: h5bp.com/r
       ========================================================================== */
    @media print {
      * { background: transparent !important; color: black !important; text-shadow: none !important; filter:none !important; -ms-filter: none !important; } /* Black prints faster: h5bp.com/s */
      a, a:visited { text-decoration: underline; }
      a[href]:after { content: " (" attr(href) ")"; }
      abbr[title]:after { content: " (" attr(title) ")"; }
      .ir a:after, a[href^="javascript:"]:after, a[href^="#"]:after { content: ""; }  /* Don't show links for images, or javascript/internal links */
      pre, blockquote { border: 1px solid #999; page-break-inside: avoid; }
      thead { display: table-header-group; } /* h5bp.com/t */
      tr, img { page-break-inside: avoid; }
      img { max-width: 100% !important; }
      @page { margin: 0.5cm; }
      p, h2, h3 { orphans: 3; widows: 3; }
      h2, h3 { page-break-after: avoid; }
    Perhaps that's why what you see in print doesn't match what you see on screen.
    If you want a print out of the screen display, do a screengrab with your print screen key.  Paste content it into your favorite graphics editor.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy O.

  • How can I display an icon, instead of text string, as a validation prompt?

    My validate method inside my custom validator is like this:
    public void validate(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, Object value) {
      Pattern datePattern = Pattern.compile("(\\d{2})/(\\d{2})/(\\d{4})");
      Matcher dateMatcher = datePattern.matcher((String)value);
      if(!dateMatcher.find()){
        ((UIInput)component).setValid(false);
        FacesMessage message = new FacesMessage();
        String msg = "[" + value + "] invalid date";
        message.setDetail(msg);
        context.addMessage(component.getClientId(context), message);
        FacesMessage facesMsg = new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_FATAL, "xx", "msg");
        throw new ValidatorException(facesMsg);
    }My JSP has this:
    <h:inputText id="test" value="#{projecthandler.test}">
    <f:validator validatorId="DateValidator" />
    </h:inputText>
    <h:message id="testErrorMessage" for="test"/>The <h:message> tag will kick in if the user has invalid data in the <h:inputText> field and clicks submit.
    When the page is regenerated, the user will see a text string reflecting what the issue is.
    However, instead of this, I would like to display an icon consisting of a red circle with an exclamation point.
    The user is supposed to click on the icon if they want more information. By clicking on the icon,
    the user will see a message box, with a description of the error.
    This is our standard for applications. I'm trying to put together a demo showing how an existing application
    would work in JSF, so I won't be able to talk others into using JSF, unless I can get the validation to display an
    icon instead of text.

    OK, I noticed a bug in my validate method. This is updated to fix the bug, and to include the recomendation about background-image:
      public void validate(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, Object value) {
        System.out.println("DateValidator.test.1");
        Pattern datePattern = Pattern.compile("(\\d{2})/(\\d{2})/(\\d{4})");
        Matcher dateMatcher = datePattern.matcher((String)value);
        System.out.println("DateValidator.test.1");
        if(!dateMatcher.find()){
          ((UIInput)component).setValid(false);
          FacesMessage message = new FacesMessage();
          String msg = "<span style='background-image: url(/error.gif)'/>";
          message.setDetail(msg);
          message.setSeverity(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_FATAL);
          context.addMessage(component.getClientId(context), message);
          throw new ValidatorException(message);
      }When I run this, the litteral string of "<span style='background-image: url(/error.gif)'/>" is printed as the message. It does not interpret this as a span tag with an image url.
    Can someone tell me what's going on?

  • Firefox printing to Adobe PDF saves pages as images

    I like to save articles / webpages as PDF. The printer that i am using is the standard PDF printer that comes with Adobe Acrobat Professional version 9.4
    Firefox prints to PDF pages as image files, whereas Internet Explorer etc is able to print pages as simple PDF where text etc can be selected.
    Previous to this, i was having a huge problem in printing to PDF. I tried other PDF printers with the the same issue. The PC would just freeze etc if i tried to print to PDF from Firefox version 3.6 etc.
    The PC is an Core i7 950 3.0GHZ with 6GB RAM, so not really an old PC.

    I had the same problem. Here's how to fix it:
    Go to "about:config", set "gfx.direct2d.disabled" to "true"

  • [SOLVED] Printer prints white instead of black

    Since an system upgrade on 2013-09-18 and the following reboot, my printer started printing fully black areas and text as white. Interistingly gray remains gray. I'm using a Brother DCP-135C. Has anyone an idea which package could have introduced this issue? I uploaded the log of the update. Just before this update everything worked as expected.
    Another thing, I found out, is that when printing PDFs with zathura or directly with lpr, this behavior occurs. But when printing with Firefox and PDF.js black texts are correctly printed as black, but Firefox always cuts parts of the printed pages.
    My only idea is that the update of linux-firmware or somehow conflict with the Brother driver.
    Can anyone help me?
    Edit: Firefox seems to have the same issue, when printing black - it just doesn't seem to print text as black, but rather as gray.
    Solved: I really don't understand, why gray still worked, but after readjusting and cleaning the print head everything seems fine again.

  • Why do empty boxes show up instead of text on many web pages?

    Several months ago we started having trouble on our Mac OS X desktop computer with Firefox. On many web pages, including the Firefox Support home page, I see empty boxes instead of text. The boxes do not have any letters in them. If I copy and paste the boxes into MS Word it translates them into text, but not on the web page.
