Firefox quits after a few minutes if I am not using an online program, like email--I want it to stay open. Help

When I open firefox and connect to the internet, everything is fine. But if I step away for a few minutes, my connection is lost, and I have to log into whatever site I was on, again, usually email, buts sometimes others. I seem to have to be continuously using the site for it to stay on.

Have you have tested the same site in Safari to see whether it stays online while you are away? This would be helpful in determining whether to focus internal Firefox issues or to consider Mac OS issues as well.
If you connect to the site using a proxy server, private VPN service, or TOR, it's possible that your IP address is changing. Some sites like Yahoo cross check your IP address to prevent others from hijacking your session, and require you to enter your password again if it has changed. I think problems have also been noted on AOL network sites such as Huffington Post.
To check your connection setting, you can use this dialog:
(Mac) Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default setting is "Use system proxy settings" but you might also try "No proxy" to see whether that makes a difference.

• Firefox hangs after a few minutes and freezes whole system -- tried all the help suggestions already

I just updated to the latest version of Firefox and now it hangs after a few minutes of use (maybe when using Facebook)...I tried all of the existing help suggestions and none of them worked. Once it hangs, I can no longer use my machine as it freezes everything. I have to shut down...and even that takes forever to happen. :(

Hello cswatson,
Try clearing your Java cache, and History.
If you're not sure how to do that go here. --> I'm a Link.
If you still have problems, and are running a 64 bit processor you may want to install Waterfox instead of Firefox. On the case that you are running a 32 bit operating system do not install Waterfox. However, if you are running a 64 bit operating system you may want to install Waterfox. If you do install you should update your plugins on the Waterfox Download page below.

• Why does Firefox hang after a few minutes connected using ATT on a USB antennae, but IE continues to stay connected??

I've used a USB interface to connect to the internet for several years without a problem. Last month our Alltel account was sold to ATT. They sent us a new USB device, and it works for about 5 minutes, but then Firefox will just hang, and not reload the page, or any page, until we disconnect and then reconnect. On a whim I tried connecting using IE when I was locked up on Firefox, and the connection worked fine. Until then I was blaming ATT, but now I think it is a Firefox issue.

hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try updating your graphics driver, or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

on 10/16/14 started quitting on any website. no crash notice. App just quits.
uninstalled on 10/17/14 and reinstalled with no add-ons from Google Play Store
No change - Firefox runs as long as it is not connected to the web. Shows history - bookmark - etc.
Soon as it connects on the internet it quits. Connecting via wireless network.
I have uninstalled it so I can use the internet
please advise when this is corrected. and I will re-install

There are some other methods, you can remove all data from the application from the App Manager. If you open up this from the android settings you can remove all data/cache of the app and force it to stop.
However it may also have to do with connecting to the internet. Does this happen when other apps try to connect to the internet?
Remote debugging can be turned on in the phone by tapping on the build id 7 times under Android settings > About Device. However more detailed steps are in the article about remote debugging.

Hello Anonymous.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

• Firefox crashes after a few minutes when using say Ebay and Yahoo sites. Also internet exploer also does the same. I do not know much about computers please help if possible. Many thanks. PS I have the latest Firefox version

The problem has just started. I did get a funny windows coming up about 'best video down loader' but I do have that addon already.

I have too have lost all function to my smart mailboxes upon installing Yosemite. I also lost all my flagged email. Any solutions yet? I will be bummed if I have to recreate my email because I was foolish enough to install this upgrade too soon. Will I ever learn to wait? Ugh.

• While running on battery, MacBook Pro crashes after a few minutes of use.

While running on battery, my MacBook Pro crashes (shuts down) after a few minutes (less than 10) of use. Battery indicator still says I have enough power (more than 75%) so it can't be related to the other reported issues with low battery crashes.
While on power adaptor, I don't have any issues.
I checked battery condition as suggested in all the forum threads I can find and its fine.
Running Lion 10.7.2

PRAM reset did not resolve the issue

firefox not responding, freezes, sometimes responds after a few minutes, other times a pop-up appears asking if I want to stop script - help please

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. Please help!

Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

It's not a router problem as I explained in my post. If it was a router problem then I wouldn't have the problem everywhere I go. It is an issue with the software.
Then I guess the millions of people running 10.5.7 with no issues are just hallucinating that their machines are working fine?
I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

• IChat often freezing up after a few minutes; force-quit required to sign-on

My iChats are very often (almost always) crashing after a few minutes- the screen starts to freeze up on both ends, the audio remains, and I have to force-quit and re-start iChat. Strangely, sometimes the iChat will work fine for an hour or two continuously; but usually once it goes into "crash mode", all of the chats will last for a couple of minutes and then begin to erode. This seems to have become much more prevalent with the introduction of "mobil me"; I never had many consistent problems before. This is a persistent problem with iChat with me using my .mac account, video-conferencing with a fellow .mac subscriber.

Have you installed this Quicktime update.

I was speaking about the components in the power supply, although the Logic Board components are also in visually good condition.
My concern is; replacing the PS may place greater pressure on the components of the Logic Board, which are obviously of the same age. Precipitating a similar failure in the LB at an early stage...
£100 for a power supply is one thing, then the probability of £200+ for a LB replacement is quite another. £300+ is not a viable repair for a 5 year old iMac in my opinion.
A dealer or service provider can replace the power supply, which should completely address your issue EXCEPT to the extent that repeated, abnormal shutdowns have damaged your drive directory. Using Disk Utility as a first pass may address any such concerns. More extensive directory damage will require a utility like Disk Warrior.
Quite capable of replacing PS my self, not too worried about the warranty aspect now!
Agreed, repeated shut downs may have messed the directory. The contents have been duplicated throughout the life of the machine, so backup is not an issue, a reformat and zero of the drive would be a natural progression from replacing the PS, if we go that route.
The part required for replacement in an iMac 17 inch (ALS) model is the 661-3627. In the 20 inch (ALS) model, it is a 661-3625.
Thank you for your observations and help, also for the confirmation of the part #. There are some new on UK eBay right now @ £80 - £100.

• Safari Crashes after a few minutes without report/reopen window....

Please help
after a few minutes safari closes without any notice and no display of report/ reopen window.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums Prisoner from the Land of Cleve.
A little more information would be helpful, such as the version of Safari you're using and which OS version.
I have found the latest version of Safari (3.2.1.) to be ill behaved unless I've unchecked the "warn before visiting fraudulent websites" option in Safari > Preferences > Security. This appears to be a widespread issue. Try unchecking that box, quit Safari and see if it helps.

• Re: Satellite L755d - Every browser except IE8 crashes after a few minutes

Hi,
i own a Toshiba l755d since a month. Everything works fine except firefox, chrome and opera.
IE8 works. t first i thought it was just firefox because i just tested firefox.
SO i wrote a thread in my own language forum for firefox. nobody was able to help me with that problem of crashes. Then i was like test some others browsers which finally doesn't work too.
So finally after updating everything and no change in anything i decided to reinstall windows so atm there is nothing on my harddrive except windows 7 home premium(64bit), the drivers, recently updatet java, flashplayer, firefox, opera and chrome.
Short:
-every browser except IE8 crashes after a few minutes
-firefox forum couldn't help me
-the laptop is new
-everything is updatet to the recent version
Any ideas?
cheers!

IE8 isn't the recent? Shame on me i use the ie9
I did the recovery (set to delivered status) several times.
opera crashes too fast, chrome doesn't show anything and firefox shoes this
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:469
i can choose between -> continue and stop. :D actually this doens't make any difference but ok. At
the firefox forum they said this useually is caused by plugins. SO i deactivated and deinstalled everything and started firefox in safemode. still no change.
i heard this COULD be caused by java script errors.
(thanks for the fast reply)
