Firefox randomly crashes every 5 to 10 minutes (mswsock.ddl)

As the title says, Firefox has been crashing every few minutes for the last couple days. It doesn't seem to matter how many tabs I have open or what websites I'm on either. I've tried updating, running in Safe Mode, and re-installing with no effect. Below are the last several crash reports I've gotten. They all mention a file called "mswsock.dll" and Google suggested that it might be infected, but a full system scan with Avast and MSE both came up clean so I'm pretty lost.

That crash is caused by ghostery.
See: bug 814594 NEW crash in JSC::Yarr::YarrGenerator::opCompileParenthesesSubpattern mainly with Ghostery
and update the addon (as it is out of date, that is the problem) Through Firefox => Addons => Tool button => Check for updates
or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ghostery/?src=search
The current version of Ghostery is 5.0.3, older versions cause firefox to crash.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Updated to Firefox 29, crashing every 3 minutes...

This is quite frustrating. even as I am typing this, about 3 crashes have occurred. Firefox has always been my favorite browser because of its security and privacy mostly. However since updating to 29, which I did just 3 minutes ago, it has been unbearable. It has been crashing every 3 minutes on average.
Please, what is the solution to this? I want to enjoy my old Firefox back.
    Thank you

I found another sure cause of this.
Basically if I try to save a picture, as soon as I click on "Save picture as", it crashes. I am 100% sure about this.

  • Firefox 4 randomly crashes every 5 seconds (pretty much)

Sometimes I can have multiple tabs open (approx 6 at a time) and it will slow down dramatically and crash. Other times the same thing (approx 6 tabs open) and it will be the same speed, but crash unexpectedly. It is very frustrating.

That crash is caused by ghostery.
See: bug 814594 NEW crash in JSC::Yarr::YarrGenerator::opCompileParenthesesSubpattern mainly with Ghostery

  • Firefox is crashing every time I open it.

every time i open Firefox it crashes. Opens to home page ok but when I click on a site from book marks or from toolbar it crashes.

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014 crashes every 3 to 5 minutes. Windows 8.1. Uninstalled and reinstalled again today, not any better.

I had the trial version for the last 30 days. I bought the product Sunday and entered the license code. The next day it started crashing every few minutes. I looked up similar reports in this forum and tried what has been recommended. I made sure Verdana and Tahoma fonts are set to "visible". I checked my CSS for open curly parenthesis. I uninstalled Dreamweaver and reinstalled. I rebooted. I cleared the cache.
I have a simple little site for a historical society. There are no extensions installed. I have one CSS file and no other files except for the few HTML pages that make up the site. There are no forms or javascript in use.

    http://support.mozilla.com/de/kb/Firefox%20st%C3%BCrzt%20ab#w_holen-sie-sich-hilfe-beim-beheben-der-absturzursache
Firefox doesn't start, I have no Troblesshooting Informations.

FF 9 beta crashes just as much for me.
Only 3 entries left in the Registry under "Run". 1x "OOdefrag" & 2x "Trend Micro". The "Trend Micro" extension no longer works with 8-9 either.
Only 3 addons.. "Acrobat", "Java" & "Flash". And only 1 Extension... Mozilla Feedback 1.1.2. Where else to look?? I want v7 back!

  • Firefox randomly crashes on OSX

I don't know if it's a Firefox update or OSX update, but I started getting random crashes. Here are a few links to the reports:
    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-10a09e1e-0fe6-45ab-9f1c-859812150412

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-0f2cea19-8b38-40b0-916a-02f972150411
    They all say
    @ nsPluginStreamListenerPeer::GetInterfaceGlobal(nsID const&, void**)
I tried googling that but I just get results to other crash reports. Could anyone help me out and see if they can tell what the issue is? (I already checked that the plugins are all up to date)

    First try Safe Mode:
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
'''If Firefox is open,''' you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
'''If Firefox is not running,''' you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
