Firefox reloads the last website upon launch instead of my homepage

I have a suspicious pop-up on a certain URL. I closed the broswer with Ctrl+Alt+Del. Firefox keeps reloading this site upon launch. I would like the option to reload the last site, say on a crash, or goto my home page like IE does.

• Firefox Opens the Last Page I Viewed Instead of My Home Page

I have tried more than one solution found in your forums. Nothing has worked so far. I've put text from the solutions I've tried in the Troubleshooting Information box below.

I have had this problem a few times and came across a solution that worked for me these are the steps i tried before it worked.
I'm using FireFox 4.
1. Go to Tools then options.
2. I went to general and tried Restoring to Default that didnt work so then Cleared the History and that still didnt work.
3. I then went to Pivacy and under History select FireFox will: Never Remember History.
4. Close browser and it went back to my Home Page. I then went back to Tools, Options, Privacy and set FireFox back to FireFox will: Remeber History again and it worked.
Hope this helps :)

• I have used Firefox for the last number of years but now it crashes upon opening.

I have used Firefox for the last number of years but now it crashes upon opening. I have unistalled and installed (version 6) but still it crashes. It does not start in safe mode either. I have read the various help support but I seem to be going around in circles. I am not a computer geek so please bear with me. Thank you.

• For no apparent reason, my email will not autofill addresses. I have no problem on IE, Chrome or Opera. This problem just started with firefox within the last 24 hours. My mail server is AT&T/Yahoo, and I use webmail - not a mail program.

With all other browsers, when I compose an email, once I start to put the recipient's name in the To box, it will autofill the name if it is in my Contacts. This has been the case with firefox until the last 24 hours. Now, firefox does not automatically recognize any of my contacts. This problem is not happening on IE, Chrome, or Opera. I access my email through my AT&T/Yahoo account on the web, not through a mail program.

please try to uninstall the adobe flash plugin from the windows control panel. afterwards manually delete any leftover files in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash and download & install the plugin again (uncheck the option to install the bundled security software): www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

Ever since I updated InDesign CC (2014) approximately 22 days ago... I CANNOT get the welcome screen to not come on at the launch on InDesign. I set the preferences in InDesign to NOT show the welcome screen upon launch, but it will NOT hold the preferences i choose. Anyone else have any other ideas? I am about to lose my mind... I hate you ADOBE!!!

that s just the problem, that is why my level of frustration is boiling over ... I have told InDesign over and over again "Do Not Show Again" but it will just not hold the settings. It might hold it for a day or so, but then suddenly there it is again on another launch. Very very annoying.

when i wath youtube adobe flash crashed and in instell last firefox and the last adobe flash

A couple of things:
* Upgrade to Firefox 13 (you're currently running 12). Select Firefox > Help > About Firefox to upgrade.
* Check if your Flash plugin is out of date on this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/. If it is, follow the instructions on the page for upgrading Flash.
Hope this helps!

• When entering login's, Firefox shows the last entries.

Whenever I am asked to log into a secure sight, Firefox shows the last entries entered; ie, when I log into Yahoo, all I have to do is enter the first letter and it shows the last 6-8 logins. I feel that this is a security issue. I don't want others to see my login's. Explorer does not do this. How do I turn this off?

• Why does Firefox select the last used printer instead of the system default printer on startup?

In the course of using Firefox I selected my color printer to print in color then closed Firefox. When I reopened Firefox later on and sent something to the printer I had assumed it picked up the system default printer, a monochrome laserjet. It picked up the color printer instead. When I restart my other apps they automatically pick up the default printer. Why not Firefox?

Some web pages will pop up the print dialog automatically. In particular, pages that websites have specially formatted for printing may do this.
Are you restoring tabs that you previously opened, or starting up with your home page(s)? I suspect that one of them is generating the dialog. You could check by going to each one and reloading the page to see whether it is from that page.

• Firefox opens the last session automatically instead of opeming the homepage

The firefox is opening the last session(the tab/s i had open before i closed firefox) when i open a new window. pls reply fast!! and this is the second time i'm typing this stupid question becoz i pressed backspace and the page went back!!! D:

Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that that there are no longer Firefox or plugin-container processes left on the Processes tab in the Task Manager. Otherwise session restore will reopen the page(s) from the previous session.

• Is there a way to recover my tabs after using the Firefox "Forget the last" feature?

Hi,
So I'm a big dummy and used the "Forget the last" button on Firefox (I'm using version 34.0.5) without fully understanding what it does (note: I only selected it to forget the last five minutes, if that helps anything). It exited my session and restarted with a clean Firefox window, but now I can't access my tabs anymore. I've been reading some of the similar questions about recovering tabs and tried their solutions but this case seems to be different and so I am lost.
Here's what I did:
*Made sure that all file types were now visible
*Went to my Firefox profile folder and made a copy of everything as soon as I could
*Tried looking through the files that were there (the only relevant ones that seem to be there are recovery.bak and recovery.js)
*Couldn't find any useful information in these files. There was certainly no list of tabs for me to use
*Still haven't exited the Firefox session since it restarted and wiped away everything. I see that in some support tickets here that closing Firefox is necessary, but honestly right now I'm too nervous to try that
*Become increasingly frustrated, open a Mozilla support account and post this
I'm quite reliant on my tabs. Have I done something wrong here? Is there any way to restore them, or am I just screwed in this particular case? I made certain to look at this forum and do everything the solutions to similar problems said to do.
For what it's worth, Firefox has crashed a few times over the last week and had to start up again, so maybe that backed up a version somewhere? I would even be alright with a somewhat older version of tabs (I have some dating back to months ago and that contain information I would very much like to access again).
Any help would be very much appreciated, and I would be happy to provide more information if it's needed.

The sessionstore.js file only exists while Firefox is closed. During shutdown, Firefox writes out that file based (I think) on recovery.js as of that point. When Firefox starts back up again, it reads sessionstore.js and deletes it. So if Firefox is running, it's normal not to see sessionstore.js. Anyway, sessionstore.js is going to be empty now.
Shadow Explorer might already have done this for you, but just in case...
You could try the previous versions feature. This is harder to get to on Windows 8 and 8.1, but I have read about a roundabout way. I can't test this myself, but here's what you do:
Let's say you have a Windows Explorer window open to your current Firefox profile folder. This is something like (with your username and semi-random profile folder name):
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\blahblah
Click in the address bar and change the C: to
\\localhost\c$
to yield (with your username and semi-random profile folder name)
\\localhost\c$\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\blahblah
Press Enter to reload the folder contents that way.
Now when you right-click recovery.js, recovery.bak, backup.js or sessionstore.js and choose Properties, there should be a Previous Versions tab. Usually the most recent previous version dates back to the last time Windows created a restore point (e.g., system update or possibly scheduled on a more frequent basis).

• Is firefox 16 the last ff for microsoft xp sp3?

hw
acer atom cpu n270 1,6ghz 1gbram
sw
os microsoft xp sp3 v2002
ff v16.0.2 (not upgradable not to v18 nor v20)
several plugins (few classics, see below) and addtional components (noscript, etc.)
problems
1)can't upgrade from v16 to v18 or any other higher version;
downloading and installing v18 and restarting ff does not make any change, if not resetting all options and settings; i've tried several times within months;
2) although automatic check of new versions is unticked, at launching it often starts in default modus (all resets, history deleted, default starting page, etc.) as if made an autonomous upgrade/renewal to a higher version;
couldn't find any literature or contribution, if not the one of v12-13 for xp sp1 or 2;
theory
could it be that ff 16.0.2 is the real last working version for ms xp sp3?
solution
what are the solutions?
if above mentioned theory is true, what can i do?
at what stage is ff OS?
thanks to all foxes

The only real requirements change for Windows in last while was that one needs at minimum Windows XP SP2 when Firefox 13.0 was released as Firefox 12.0 was the last for Win2000 users without doing some mods.

Windows XP SP2

Please note that while the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 can be used to run Firefox 20, only 32-bit builds of Firefox 20 are supported at this time.

• Having trouble with firefox since the last upgrade

Since the last upgrade to firefox on the 17th jan it will open up an initial tab but wont open any subsequent tabs. if I click on a link or one of my favourites it just seems to sit there going round and round and not connecting. I have never had any sort of problem with firefox before and don't want to uninstall and reinstall in case I lose all of my favourites. Can any one help?

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. • I would like USA Today to be my homepage whenever I open Safari.  I went to Safari preferences and specified this, but it is opening to the last website that was up when I last closed out of Safari.  What should I do?

I would like to use USAToday as my homepage whenever I open Safari.  I went to settings and set it for USA.....  However, it still opens to the last site I viewed before closing Safari.  What do I need to do?

This is normal, if your System Preferences are configured thus:
Check the box if you don't want Safari to reopen the windows that were open last time you used it.
