Firefox reports wrong pdf mime type

I have multiple Windows 7 pcs that are unable to upload PDFs to websites. When we try, we get a message that we can only upload pdfs. The problem is, we ARE uploading PDFs. This happens on more than 1 website.
I found that deleting mimetypes.rdf fixes the problem. However, the problem comes back and I have to delete mimetypes.rdf again.
Does anyone know how to figure out what is causing the mimetypes to keep changing? Is there a way to stop the mimetypes.rdf from being overwritten?

  • Rendering a PDF/Mime Type in cfDIV

    Hi there
    I have a cfform that looks at files in a directory. The template is meant to allow users to select a document and and view it on the page.
    The relevant code is:
    Main Page:
    <cfform name = "name">
    <cfinput name="displayName"  id="displayName" value="#URLEncodedFormat(displayName)#" type="text">
      <cfdiv bind="url:/_admin/utilities/viewer/viewer.cfm?displayName={displayName}" />
    </cfform>
    viewer.cfm
    <cfset mimeType = getPageContext().getServletContext().getMimeType(displayName)>
    <cfheader name="Content-Disposition" value="inline; filename=#displayName#">
    <cfcontent type="#mimeType#" file="#displayName#">
    Problem is, the text in the cfDiv appears literally as:
    %PDF-1.4 %äüöß 2 0 obj <> stream x 5 }  wVI (*T٫J&#127;!Wu]  NJ>  w1Lek d\WdR%3- d{@ȅ4G\8!'. o 9ܴ    XVִi>*Y| ͋"=o .<7 Dϸ uӊp- mc oij7$TGM E P  PQBA 1` ; cS! : c2ċ9c.(6Ċ ΰi7
    Is anyone able to make any suggestions?  For instance, can this event be done using AJAX tags?
    Thanks in advance
    Boon

    A cfdiv is not a separate browser window. So I do not think you can change the content type mid-stream that way.  You might try embedding the pdf with <object>. I think that would work.  (Of course that is assuming the user's browser is actually configured to display pdf's within the browser .. )

  • When I try to click on a download link for a .pdf file Firefox does not recognize the MIME type and tries to download the file as "index.php"

    When visiting a site I frequent I tried to download a linked .pdf file. Previously I've used Firefox 7.0.1 to download the link with no problem. Using Firefox 8 however I the browser does not recognize the .pdf link's mime type. Instead of recognizing the download link as a .pdf file Firefox 8 tries to download it as "index.php". Firefox 8 does this with .doc files and .txt files as well. When I downgrade to 7.0.1 again the problem disappears.

    Hi hakmacpace,
    I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
    You could also try [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=create+a+new+profile&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_creating-a-profile Creating a new profile].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Firefox won't open site - Mime type not being recognized?

    I'm taking over management of a site that hasn't been touched in 5 years or so, to rework it, and find it works fine in IE, but won't open in Firefox. There are .asp pages in the site, but I can't quite get the layout between the asp and html pages - honestly not sure how that works. The home page is (appears to be) html - Firefox gives the popup saying "You have chosen to open (blahblahblah).htm ... which is a: HTML document ... What should Firefox do with this file?..."  Site is here: http://www.sterlingclientservices.com .
    The host guy says no mime type is being sent, yet I see it there in the header. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
    Patrick

    This is not something that can be controlled by DW and is a server-side issue.  If you have a control panel you should be able to set this information on most hosts.  If you have this the application type for HTML documents should be text/html and ASP should be application/x-asp  or text/asp (I can't remember since it's been awhile since I've used ASP).
    If you do not have access to set this up your host would need to configure IIS properly to have this fixed for you.

  • Convergence Firefox Mime types

    I'm trying to download an email attachment from Convergence using FF 3.0.5 on Solaris 10 U4.
    I'm getting the following error:
    /tmp/<File Name> could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.
    I have to save the attachment and open it using nautilus.
    In my testing this applies to doc and odt attachments. I have also noticed the same behavior using FF 3.1b1 and OpenSolaris build 101 and the release of FF in Solaris 10U4.
    I have another webmail application (http://www.horde.org) connecting to the same messaging server. I'm able to open the same email attachment without having to save it before hand. Horde lists the mime type as application/msword although I don't know how to verify that.
    Is there a way of verifying the mime type that convergence is presenting?

    Horde may be getting the MIME type from the MIME part header. For example when I upload an OpenOffice document using Convergence -04 and Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP I get the following attachment MIME header in the email body:
    Content-Type: application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text; charset=UTF-8
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=test.odt
    Is there a way of verifying the mime type that convergence is presenting?Looking at the HTTP headers of the response to the attachment GET from the client (using wireshark), I see that Convergence is specifying the Content-Type: as "application/octet-stream" and in the body of the request response I see the MIME Type application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text information.

    Shane.

  • Problem with opening Archivelink document because of wrong MIME type

    In transaction OAD2 we have a document type FAX which is currently connected to MIME-type application/pdf. This works fine for opening documents having document class FAX and are actuallty a PDF. However, in the past this document type FAX has also been used to store documents, which refer to a MIME type 'image/tiff'.
    When opening FAX-documents that are actually a PDF-file, this currently works fine. When  trying to view these FAX-documents that are actually a TIFF-file, it won't be shown in e.g. SAP Document Viewer, because the extention is unknown. You you have to save the file locally in order to be able to see it.
    Is there a solution to look to the actual document type when opening a document via ArchiveLink, instead of looking to the ArchiveLink document type?
    Thanks for any input in this one!
    Regards,
    Joost

    I've been looking at the file, and it is indeed a puzzlement.
    There is some good news, however. I don't know why it is happening (perhaps a bug, and maybe John would like to take a look at this, too), but it looks like the Paper-filled rectangle from Hinweise layer on the right of Master Ee is being copied to the left half of the actual document spreads on random layers. The pages that seem to be blank are easy to spot in the Page panel (22, 24, 26 & 32) and you can simply Cmd-Shift click on the rectangles on those pages to override and your text and graphics will be revealed. I'm not immediately picking up any other problems scanning quickly through the pages. For a quick and dirty get it done solution, I think this will work, though I would use the .inx file rather than the .indd for the conversion in CS5.5.
    I've looked through the file history, and it is long. This started out in 2007 in CS2 and has gone through updates in CS3 and CS4, and been recovered from crashes at least 4 times (which might have something to do with the strangeness). I also think there are a lot of extraneous unused frames on many of the pages. If it were my project, I'd probably clean it up as much as possible in CS4, even going as far as recreating the master pages in a new document and then going page by page and doing a copy/paste in place of all non-master objects into the new file if you don't want to spend the time to place everythign again from scratch, which in my opinion would be a better idea (I tried moving the pages to a new file, but that didn't make any difference in the CS5.5 conversion). You could also rebuild from Scratch in CS5.5.

  • Firefox v 19.0.2 won't play videos gives Mime type error message

    Using Firefox v. 19.0.1 on Mac 15' Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.3. Trying to play videos. Have webm and MP4 version videos to play. Code works fine and videos play in Firefox on my machine. When downloading web pages from the server I get "No video supported format & Mime type found" error messages.
    HOw does one fix this?
    Thanks,
    George

    You may need the flash player required to play those types of files or you may need to update your plugins.
    Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
    Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
    If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
    To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • When I load pages with video contents like m3u8 I can't see the content from firefox because it says "video format or MIME type is not supporte"

    When I open a link like this:
    http://video.gazzetta.it/puntata-milan-kaka-fa-fuori-faraone/4494065a-13b0-11e3-a11e-38d7c867cc00
    I can't see the video content and I get this error message: video format or MIME type is not supported
    I have adobe flash updated
    I tried to reset firefox
    I have vlc installed
    I can correctly see this link with internet explorer. This is a PARADOX!
    Can somebody help me?

    I see that message when the Flash plugin is disabled.<br />
    If the Flash plugin is enabled or set to click-to-play then a Flash player plays the video.<br />
    Otherwise a video tag is created with a link to an m3u8 stream that Firefox apparently doesn't support.
    You can try to disable all other plugins that deal with media files (start with VLC) to see if that helps.

  • "file -i" and "xdg-mime" reports wrong mimetype for zip files

    If I run "file something.zip" it returns "Zip archive data" as it should, but if I run "file -i something.zip" or "xdg-mime query filetype something.zip" they both return "application/octet-stream; charset=binary" instead of "application/zip; charset=binary".
    I already tried to
    remove /usr/share/mime/mime.cache and ~/.local/share/mime/mime.cache, then run update-mime-database on both folders
    delete the whole ~/.local/share/mime folder
    remove and reinstall mime-types and shared-mime-info
    without any success.
    I hope someone can help me on this because I've ran out of ideas.

    I too got annoyed at those unreliable mime-type inspectors and went searching for a better one that used the command line. I found "perl-file-mimeinfo" which comes with a wonderful script called "mimetype".

  • Dynamic CRM 2013 Online how to execute Report, generate PDF and email

    Dear All,
    I am using Dynamic CRM 2013 online. For quote, I have workflow and Dialogue processes for review process. On approval, I want the system to generate a PDF of quote report, attach the PDF and email it to the Customer.
    Better I would like, When approver, clicks on the approve button, the system should auto generate a PDF of quote report, attach the PDF and email it to the Customer, without any further input from the user. If its not possible, I may have to put button on
    quote form.
    I am using the attached code, but facing various issues.
    1. Under prepare the SOAP Message coding part, I am not sure what should be the below URL for CRM 2013 Online?
    xHReq.Open("POST", "/mscrmservices/2007/CrmService.asmx", false);
    2. What should be the emailid here? Is it Recepient Contact id(Guid) ?
    var emailid = resultXml.selectSingleNode("//CreateResult").nodeTypedValue;
    alert("emailid" + emailid.toString());
    3. Using this code, not able to create Entity for "ActivityMimeAttachment", I am getting newEntity as undefined.
    Below is the code I am using. Please check and help me out, where I am going wrong. Let me know if any better way to implement it. At present, I have put one button on quote form, on click event, below code will get executed.

  • Problem to export a report (to PDF) after converting my reports to CR13

    I have an old project with reports developped using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2003 (.NET 1.1). I want to convert them so I can now use Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 (with .NET 3.5).
    I installed Crystal Reports for VS2010 and I converted my reports to the new format. Unfortunately, one of my reports is not working anymore.
    My ASP.NET application generate the report and export it as a PDF. I use CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.Export().
    Everytime I run this method, an exception is thrown...
    System.Exception was unhandled by user code
      Message=System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80041004):

      StackTrace:
    I also tried to export the report (using PDF format) at design time with the "Export Report" button in Preview mode. It didn't work. But, I can export the report at design time using another format type (like XML).
    The old version of te report (using .NET 1.1, CR9) work fine. As I said, other reports in that same project work perfectly.
    Is someone have an idea of what's wrong!
    Thanks!
    Max.

    The most common cause of this problem is having very large detailed images, or lots and lots of images in your report. The Crystal Report engine changed a lot from 9.1 to 13. The big change was from 9.1 to 10 though when we started using the RAS InProc engine.
    The Crystal reporting engine is not efficient at handling the images and it can cause memory issues like you are seeing. As a test, try suppressing the images that show up frequently in your report and retry your export. If it works you'll have your answer and you'll need a new creative way to design your report without so many images.

  • Case sensitive file extensions on mime.types?

    Hello,
    I'm facing a weird problem at customers's site.
    There is an iAS 10.1.3.3 installation on a Windows 2000 server. There is an OC4J container called "OC4J_FR" where their application is depoyed.
    The trouble we're facing is the following:
    on the %ORACLE_HOME%/j2ee/OC4J_FR/config/mime.types we add the following 2 entries:
    image/tiff                    tif tiff
    application/vnd.ms-excel     xls
    So, when we put someFile.tif (or someOther.xls) under the container public directory it is possible for users to access them via the URL
    http://servername:port/webContextRoot/someFile.tif
    And this works OK.
    If we try to rename the above file into something like myFile.TIFF (please note the extension in uppercase) Internet Explorer opens it like text, wiring this "rubbish":
    II*Àg ÒgL1ÂÊ$(2ÈdÙ¨¦Í@6j)³P‘<mò°Ú¨³
    etc....
    While Firefox opens it correctly. I also tried to add on mime.types the following (even if on the Apache website it is told that this is useless...)
    image/tiff                    TIF TIFF
    But still it doesn't work.
    Any hints/patches/workarounds/ideas/anything?
    Thanks,
    - Paolo

    Can't really say what's wrong but I quickly tried it with OHS (Oracle HTTP Server) and it works fine both in Firefox 3.0 and IE 6.0 without making any change (in mime type configuration). I copied two tiff files (sample1.tiff and sample2.TIFF) in $OH/Apache/Apache/htdocs directory and then was successfully able to access both using http://host.domain:ohs_port/sample1.tiff and http://host.domain:ohs_port/sample2.TIFF.
    When you say you tried with Apache website, is above what you tried too?
    Thanks
    Shail

  • Safari doesn't display an object with MIME type video/mp4

    So, I've got a little hiccup here. I put together a CV in html with samples you can click to bring up. Now, I don't make any claims to professional geekdom, but I try to be fairly html savvy, and since I'm sending this to the college IT guys, I want to do it right. So I'd like this thing to use valid w3c compliant html. Not too tough, fix some missing quotes and learn how to use the object tag instead of embed. Done.
    Well, here's the problem. I loaded it into Safari for testing, and a Quicktime file won't play. Now, it runs fine on Firefox. The obtuse and awkwardly lumped in IE version of the object works fine (tested in IE6, Win2K virtual machine). And the same file ran fine when I had it using an embed tag. Now it just brings up the Quicktime emblem, takes up the specified amount of space, and doesn't do anything.
    What did I do wrong? I've got the latest Quicktime and Safari, and I know it's standards compliant. Do I have to feed it some more specific type for an h.264 encoded mp4?
    Here's the code I used. The embed tag is the one that works, the object tag is the compliant one that doesn't. I'm guessing I'm missing a parameter or something. Any advice?
    <embed scale="1" src="files/Sabres.mp4" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" autoplay="FALSE" volume="100" cache="TRUE" height="496" width="640">
    <object type="video/mp4" data="files/Sabres.mp4" height="496" width="640">
    <param name="controller" value="true">
    <param name="autoplay" value="false">
    Your browser cannot display this content. Click here to download it.
    </object>

    Tom and Kirk, thanks for your time. That would work, but since <embed> is a non-standard tag, I want to avoid it.
    Andy, I actually stopped by that site last night, and I did use it for the object code.
    My problem is that for some reason, what looks like a legitimate implementation of <object> isn't displaying in Safari. I know Firefox is a bit more forgiving of sloppy code, so I don't blame Safari for that one. I know Safari can display the file because it displayed it properly when I called it with embed. I'm just not sure what's wrong with the code that's making Safari not bring up the video. It knows it's Quicktime and loads the file, I know that, because it brings up the emblem and starts hoarding RAM when I bring it up in Safari, but it just holds there. I've tried a couple MIME types, including video/quicktime and video/mp4, both worked in Firefox, and video/h264 just as a shot in the dark, and both Safari and Firefox showed the alternate content.
    By the way, here's the full code I used to display the object, using Castro's cloaking technique for IE compatibility. I omitted it earlier because when I isolated the non-IE section alone in the body of the document it behaved the same as it did with the cloaking (working in FF, broken in Safari).

  • MIME type issue in version 4.1/4.2 Compatibility Mode

    Problem: when displaying a PDF file, it displays OK as PDF if APEX 'Compatability Mode' = 'Pre 4.1', but displays as HTML when in either '4.1' or '4.2' mode.
    Apex: 4.2.2.00.11
    DB: 11gr2
    Web server: Apache on Linux
    More detailed description... this seems to be a MIME type issue related to APEX (or maybe DB) versioning.  The following code works as expected when run in 'Pre 4.1' mode - ie. it displays an appropriate PDF document in the appropriate Acrobat/other plugin in several browsers (Firefox/Opera/Chrome/IE).  But just by changing 'Compatability Mode' to '4.2' (or even '4.1'), it then downloads the file but displays it as a bunch of random characters, and the web page header MIME type is 'text/HTML'.
    Note: this also happens with other file types such as xls/doc/etc, but I expect fixing PDF should also fix these.
    I'm at a bit of a loss as to where this is happening, it seems there is a difference in the 'Compatibility Modes' between either the creating of the HTML header using 'OWA_UTIL.mime_header' or the component path it traverses before reaching apache.
    The only other thing I could think of is that we do a bit of redirection to display the PDF, though this seems like it might be a red herring.  Basically we use page 560 as a container, and then display the PDF with page 561 within a frame embeded within page 560.  So, on the page 560, which is the one we reference throughout the application, we have  a region with a source of '&lt;iframe src=?p=&APP_ID.:561:&SESSION.height="500" width="700"&gt&lt;/iframe&gt</pre>'.  Then on page 561, in a 'On Load - Before Header' process, we make the call to the code 'DOWNLOAD_APPLICANT_PDF' (below).
    Note: I did try calling 'apex_application.stop_apex_engine' after 'DOWNLOAD_APPLICANT_PDF', as suggested in a couple threads, but it didn't fix the problem, and caused a couple low-level system errors.
    Code:
    <pre>
      CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE DOWNLOAD_APPLICANT_PDF ( p_doc_id IN   NUMBER
       AS

    Hi,
    for some background information about the above changed behavior, have a look at 4.2 Before Header Processes and Browser Security HTTP Headers of the APEX 4.1. release notes.

  • Changed mime type associations !

    I recently installed gimp, and now when I open any downloaded pdf files, they are opened in gimp.
    Files previously downloaded and saved are however opened in 'evince'. I use open-box, Chromium, Rox-filer and evince, as DE, browser, file-manager and document viewer respectively.
    I searched the wiki and found two entries that I thought might help, Default Applications and Custom file associations, I've tried both user specific options in these pages, here are the files I created:-
    [bance@archbox ~]$ cat .local/share/applications/defaults.list
    [Default Applications]
    pdf=evince.desktop
    [bance@archbox ~]$ cat .local/share/applications/evince.desktop
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Evince
    Exec=/usr/bin/evince
    MimeType=application/x-evince
    Icon=evince
    Terminal=false
    Type=Application
    Categories=DocumentViewer

    Neither of these has worked, do the files look ok? Have I made a mistake somewhere?
    OK whilst writing this post, I noticed that I have a file /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, It contains a list of mime type associations, would editing this work?
    TIA Steve

    you need!! the inode/directory setting in the mimetype list.  That's what chromium reads to autopen your file manager.
    Make sure it matches the .desktop file appropriate for your file manager.  In the case of spacefm, it is not spacefm.desktop as you might expect, it is spacefm-folder-handler.desktop.
    Check your .desktop files for your fm.
    If you're still having trouble, you might want to post your mimeapps.list
    I noticed in post1 you were using defaults.list instead.  Reading the wiki is not super clear on this, but since I downloaded the pkg 'mimeo' I used mimeapps.list instead.
    I assume you read the file extension portion of the chromium part of the wiki:
