• Flash videos (like YouTube) reload automatically when opened

Videos played in Firefox, particularly flash videos like on YouTube, always reload automatically when I focus on them. For example, I open a video in a new tab to let it pre-load or begin to play it, then when I click on the tab to watch the video it will reload, defeating the point of the pre-load buffer. This happens on all flash video websites and is particularly annoying when multiple windows are buffering.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Firefox crashes and exits when I play the high quality videos in YouTube !!!

For example , A video in YouTube has 3 different qualities : 480p , 760p and 1080p ...
I can see that video in 480p and 760p but when I click on 1080p , The browser closes and when I open it again and click on restore last session , I closes again !!!

If there is an issue with the image, I could not reproduce it on Mac, however there may be some other culprits. Can you please check:
*Is there a difference in quality of video that either browser loads?
*If you disable hardware acceleration in Flash do you notice a difference in Firefox?
*Are your WebGL drivers up to date in Firefox? (instructions at the last part of Flash acceleration)
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
There was another security release for Flash today as they are addressing some major security issues this week.
I would recommend changing your Flash plugin to a click to play status. Go into about:plugins and click "Always Ask to Activate" for your flash player.

when i am using firefox if i click on a link that opens a new tab the new page wont scroll or scrolls very slowly. this has never happened before and i have had many many tabs open at once without any problem, now if i have just two the second one gives me these problems while the first one continues to work fine.

• Firefox frequently hangs when loading websites with Flash video.

Firefox frequently completely freezes when viewing Flash video and the only way to release it is to manually kill the plugin-container process.
This have been verified with several Firefox versions, upto and including 3.6.10 and upto the lastest Flash release on systems running Windows 7 64-bit. This have been tested on multiple installations, different systems and on clean installations. However only tested on 64-bit HP systems so far.
Running Firefox with "Run as Administrator" enabled or with compatibility mode set to "Windows XP SP2" seems to solve the problem, but that solution is not good considering the security and performance problems following with that.

I have done some more testing and the problem seems to have been found:
Windows 7 64-bit with Firefox and Flash works fine until HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite is installed. That combination makes Flash video playback hang frequently. Uninstallation of HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite fixes the problem.
Flash video playback works fine with Windows 7 64-bit and HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite using the browsers Internet Explorer and Chrome instead of Firefox.
At the moment I can not tell if the error is with Firefox, Flash or HP Protect Tools.
I am using the latest versions of Firefox, Flash and HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite at the time of writing, including latest Windows security patches.
HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite installation file name used for this is sp48447.exe.

• When I try to play a flash video (like youtube) i have to click a flash button several times before it works. Why do flash videos not recogonize any clicks without several tries first?

When I try to go to a flash video, the video player never seems to recognize my mouse clicks without several tries.
It's hard to explain but if I'm at a youtube video and i place my cursor over the button that lets you skip around the video, the cursor will alternate being a cursor (like its not recognized) and a hand like its supposed to. It's sort of keeps flickering between the two if I move the mouse around on that little skip button.
I tried uninstalling firefox but it didn't make a difference. I noticed it after updating to the newer firefoxe updates. This does not happen under IE.
thank you for your help.

• Internet running very slowly when using external monitor.

I've used my HDTV as an external monitor for my various MacBooks for years with no problems. I bought a 17-inch MacBook Pro, and it worked perfectly doing the same thing for the first few months that I had it. Recently it has started to have very poor Internet speed, but only when I connect it to my TV. The Internet and my Airport Extreme are not the cause, as no one else in the house has this issue and my iPad loads sites as fast as it ever has. Plus, the MacBook Pro in question has an excellent connection once I disconnect it from the external monitor.
What could be the cause of this? I updated to 10.7.2 way back when it was released and only had problems very recently. Is there anything I can do without having to take it to the Apple Store?

Are you sure that the internet is running slowly?  Or, because you're using an external monitor, you're using more memory than before and you're having some issues with memory access?  You can open Activity Monitor and see how much free memory you have.
One other thing.  Are you using discrete video when you're connected to a monitor?  Or are you using the integrated Intel HD3000 video.

• My iMac is running very slowly when trying to retrieve data from the internet.

Safari hangs on all web pages, take at least 15mins to download a single page.  Connecting iTunes Store hangs indefinitely.
I am running OS X 10.7.5.
All other devices connected to my router have no problems accessing the web including NetFlix through Apple TV, iPad etc. I have not changed my router or service provider.
What I have tried so far:
Turned off Extensions (not that I had any to start)
Removed all Website Data
Unchecked Allow Plug-ins
Any other suggestions...?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

• Macbook pro running very slowly when the energy cable is unplugged?

Hey Guys.
My laptop has this exact same problem. I got it in March 2012, and it was working perfectly fine both on power and on the battery.
I'm trying to apply this solution, but I'm stuck on step 3, because my Extensions folder is empty. There are no files at all in there. My Pathway was Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions/ please advice if this is the right folder.
Thanks in advance.
Oh and I ran a hardware test and it said everything was fine.

• InDesign 5.5 running very slowly on a new mac with 24GB RAM????

Clean install everything new, everything updated and we're getting spinning wheel and lag on a document that older computers with a fraction of this power aren't having a problem with at all. (These problems persist with other documents of various sizes and complexity.)

Tracy, all your replies to go the same place. No real point in 4 replies, just post one with all the info -- we all see them.
Too much RAM... Is there such a thing?
Well, there was a smiley-face for a reason. While I would be lying if I said there was never a bug or a problem from having too much RAM, such problems are extremely rare in modern systems, and you should look pretty much everywhere else for the cause, first. For one thing, your not-the-right-item process listing shows:
PID    Process Name              User       CPU      Real Mem        Virtual Mem
1256   InDesign                  TheBeast   2.3      1.34 GB         2.33 GB
InDesign is only using 1.4 GB of your RAM, though the InDesign process thinks it might be using 2.4 GB of RAM.
One thing it does mean is that your OS X kernel is running in 64-bit mode (well, with 64-bit addressing), which need not have been the case if your machine had less than 4GB of RAM. But there are plenty of people who have InDesign running on such powerful machines. Maybe the problem is your Beast? Again, just kidding.
By the way, you mentioned CS5 in an earlier post. I hope you're aware that CS5.5 files are not backwards-compatible to CS5. If you wish to do work in CS5.5 and open it in CS5, you're going to have some issues. The workaround is to Export the CS5.5 file as IDML, which CS5 can then read.  This isn't really a favored workflow, though. Hopefully you don't plan on doing very much movement between CS5 and CS5.5...

• My Mac is running very slowly especially when I am using Facebook and related products. What can I do to fix this?

Hello everyone. My Mac is running very slowly when I am using the internet, and especially when on Facebook. The little rainbow globe spins around for ages before changing pages etc. I have done several virus checks etc, but cannot find anything wrong. Sorry, but I am not tech savvy, so have difficulty with these issues.

Thanks for your reply. Well, I am not sure about the OS X version, I just gave that info from the Install DVD. I have the machine on automatic updates so I guess I am using a newer version. I know it is iMac Snow Leopard and I bought it in 2009. It is the 21.5 inch model. That is all I can tell you. I have 499GB and have used only 32GB, so it isn't a space problem.

• Since updating to FF 5.0, I can no longer access my MAMP server (Mac/Apache/MySQL/PHP) Wordpress development site on my Localhost computer (MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.4). Why not? It's running EXTREMELY SLOWLY when I try to access the pages on my site.

PROBLEM WITH LOCALHOST SITE LOADING VERY SLOWLY (IF AT ALL) AFTER I UPGRADED FIREFOX TO 5.0 FROM 3.6
I have been successfully running MAMP, a personal Apache server with MySQL, on my MacBook Pro using OSX 10.6.4. This is so I can create a Wordpress blog locally to later upload to my remote website.
Yesterday, I updated my Firefox browser from 3.6 to 5.0 (and added the following extensions: Better Privacy 1.51, Bloody Vikings! 0.5.3, Copy as HTML Link 2.0, Firebug 1.7.3, Firepicker 1.3.4, NoScript 2.1.1.2, and Ultimate Free Stock Photo Search Add-on 1.0.1, TypeGauge 0.5, and Zotero 2.1.8)
Now, I'm having trouble: At first, MySQL database server in MAMP wouldn't turn on at all. I restarted both Firefox and MAMP a few times. Finally, MySQL turned on and MAMP started to load into the browser. But it got only as far as the top bar on the MyPHP page, and would not load the rest of the page. Finally, pages do load, but I'm getting a "Waiting for localhost…" message looping at the lower left screen for a VERY LONG TIME (30-60 sec?) before my localhost web page appears (sometimes it says "Read localhost…").
But even when the localhost pages appears, it continues to run VERY SLOWLY when the browser tries to load the pages (although it runs a little less slowly when I use only the backend Wordpress administration pages). In short, it seems that something is stopping Firefox from accessing the MySQL database properly so that my site can show up as quickly as it did before.
Since this mess only happened after I upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and added the plugins, and nothing else has changed on my computer, it seems the Firefox 5.0 app and/or an extension is the culprit.
Can you advise me ASAP about what to do? If not, I'll have to downgrade to 4.0 or something. I've got deadlines to meet.
Thank you.

• Running VERY slowly, software quitting unexpectedly...

Hi,
A couple of days ago my MBP started running very slowly – everything from opening an app to surfing the net. I put the slow internet down to an issue with my internet tethering (via iPhone 4), but then everything else started going wrong…
I was trying to update Skype from version 2.x to version 5, but the download never completed; I had also been in the process of downloading a few podcasts, but had paused these transfers to try and speed up the Skype download.
Then I kept receiving error messages that were saying that Firefox had ‘quit unexpectedly’, and then the same happened with error messages for Skype. I tried reporting these issues, reopening the app, and ignoring the issue, but nothing happened. Now I have uninstalled Skype.
I then noticed that my shortcut bar wouldn’t appear properly when I moved my cursor to the bottom of the screen, although it would pop up maybe 15-30 seconds later. Trying to open a Finder window, or clicking on a shortcut would take forever for the action to complete, and now iTunes and Firefox wont open at all.
I have started backing things up to an external hdd, and this takes forever too – it took all night to update my Aperture 3 Vault, and I was told it would take >90 hours to backup iTunes. With my iTunes backup, it actually stops midway through the process because of some issue with an iPhone app (Urbanspoon). Once I have everything backed up, I guess I’ll need to reinstall OSX, but would like to avoid doing that if I can – especially as my hdd is starting to overheat from all the work it is doing (and the fact that all backups are taking so long!). The last thing I want is my external hdd to crash and lose my backups! I left the MBP this morning whilst it was running the Repair Disk element in Disk Utility, and I have just read about Hardware Test, which I will try after work.
My research has suggested that this issue could be due to a memory issue, RAM or hdd overload, or even a failing hdd. Either way, it’s very disappointing as I’ve only had the machine since Dec 2010.
I am running Snow Leopard, and am up-to-date with all system updates, and would be very grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks.

If it's not functioning the way it was intended then take it to an Apple store or AASP. You are under warranty.
