Firefox's pdf.js completely ignores PDF document permissions.

Firefox's new JavaScript PDF Viewer pdf.js is really a disaster.
It completely ignores PDF document permissions set by Acrobat Professional and so on.
With Firefox's pdf.js people can freely print any PDF and copy the texts and images.
This was reported as a bug in bugzilla@mozilla but it seems that it is going to be fixed soon.
Bug 792816 - pdf.js doesn't respect document permissions
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792816
Bug 845302 - Firefox 19.0 pdf viewer ignores pdf encryption
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=845302
Does nobody in Adobe voice one's disagreement about this?

This isn't a new issue - most of the third-party PDF reading applications have been ignoring the permissions headers in a PDF for years, and some claim it's perfectly valid for a user to be able to override password-based restrictions on copying/printing under 'fair use'. Adobe disagrees, as do I, but the nature of the PDF document structure means that it's trivial for any application to ignore those restrictions. You certainly don't need the password. Acrobat warns you the first time you use the Protection tools that  Adobe always respects the permissions you set even if other vendors choose not to.
As has been said many times; the only way to truly secure the content of a PDF file against printing or copying is to use LiveCycle digital rights management, as that forces the PDF to be opened in Adobe software and nothing else. If you cannot afford LCDRM, you have to accept that your 'secured' PDFs are anything but.

  • Pdf document contents not accessible by JAWS in Firefox

Hi experts. I am using JAWS screen reader for accessibility in my ASP.NET website. I have one link button in my web page. when clicking this button it will opens a pdf document. For using firefox this pdf document not accessed or read by JAWS screen reader. But this pdf accessed fine when browsing my site with Internet explorer. I have using JAWS 13.0. Firefox version 12.0. Can anyone please give me solution for that as soon as possible. this one is very urgent. Thank you...

There is a technical difference between the PDF rendering components in IE and Firefox. IE uses an ActiveX control while Firefox uses a "Netscape-style" plugin. Do you know whether your JAWS software can work with both?
As a workaround, you can launch PDFs from Firefox into Adobe Reader. To do that, try changing your application preference here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type pdf and pause while the list is filtered. Change the drop-down control on the right side from "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" to "Always Ask".
(If your Firefox is current set to use Foxit or another non-Adobe reader, you could try changing it to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" and see whether that actually works.)

  • PLEASE HELP. Cannot open a PDF document via a link in an email. I am using Mac 10.7.5 and Firefox.

If I receive a PDF document attached to an email by way of an icon, I can double click on the PDF icon and the document opens. HOWEVER, if I receive a link to a PDF document in an email, and I click on the link which leads me to a webpage with another link to a PDF document, when I click on the document, a new web page opens but NOTHING happens - no download box - just nothing.
Please help. This is so frustrating.
Yes, I can right click and 'Save As' - but I don't want to. I want it to open as it used to open - displaying the open PDF document in a new web page.
Then I tried to click on a download button on a website to retrieve my statement - but again, a new web page would open but it would be BLANK. No sign of any download.
When I used to open PDFs on a webpage, I used to get the Download box which asked if I want to OPEN or SAVE. This doesn't appear any more.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have already gone to HD / Internet Plug-ins and deleted the two Adobe PDF plug ins - but this hasn't fixed my problem.

Click on the below link :
    https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
    Step 1: select Mac OS  X 10.6-`0.`0
Step 2 : Safari and FIrefox
Then click on " Download Now"  button.

    Hello waitingone,
please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

How about if you right click on the PDF and select Save Link As..., and then open it locally from within Reader? Does it work ok then?  That might be a workaround until the issue within the browser is resolved.

So, here I am again with Firefox 6.0.2 and not able to open Adobe pdf documents.....
Would you please kindly assist to fix this issue...? Please note I have systematically sent a report every time Firefox has crashed, so you might have quite a few by now!

  • PDF documents suddenly not opening in Firefox 3.5.6

I'm running Windows XP and using Adobe Reader 9.2 with Acrobat 6.0 installed.
In the last couple of weeks Adobe Reader has suddenly stopped opening some PDF documents (but not all) in Firefox 3.5.6.
The error message is attached.  "The Adobe/Acrobat Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe/Acrobat Reader and exit your web browser and try again".
Any ideas what has gone wrong?

  • How to make firefox open a URL in a PDF document which is loaded using Adobe PDF viewer in firefox to always in a new browser window ?

    Hi
I have a web application which would enable users to see a list of PDF document on the web page and when the user select the PDF document, it will be open by a adobe PDF viewer.
Within the content of the PDF document, it will contact URL links to some other portal web pages which we would like these other web pages to be open in a new browser window, but our testing shows that the new web pages may not always open in a new browser window.
Could you help to advise how I can enforce that new web pages that are clicked from the PDF document can always be open in a new firefox browser window ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Sen Lee

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Problem in getting complete display in pdf document from spool

    Hi,
I have a report1 which calls another report2 in the background. The report2 which is run in the background produces some output and thus generated a spool.
Report1 then gets the spool number generated from report2 and converts it to a pdf document .
The problem is that the complete width of data in spool is not coming on pdf.
Forex , if the spool contains following records:
    1. AAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBCCCCCCCCCCCCCDDDDDDDDDDDDD
    2. SSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTUUUUUUUUUUUUU
when this is converted to pdf, the pdf doc will display data as:
    1. AAAAAAAABBBBBBBB
    2. SSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE
Complete width is not coming in the pdf document.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? Can this be handled by ABAP or BASIS team needs to be include to solve this..All ideas are welcome...

  • Pdf complete does not always create a correct pdf document

The HP Z230 I bought recently was equipped with PDF Complete to print to a pdf file.  Unfortunately, it is inferior to the freeware CutePDF, in that sometimes it doesn't convert all of the letters in the document, and the font is strange.
I've made print out pdf files using PDF Complete and CutePDF to compare the two outputs.   If somone from HP can point me to a place where I can upload both, you'll see the problem.  The source from each file was another pdf document on a CD.

  • How 2 search inside a PDF document using the firefox internal PDF reader

Cannot find any way to do a text search inside a PDF document when it is displayed by the builtin PDF player in Firefox.
If there is a way, how is it done?
If there isn't a way, it seems an obvious enhancement.

son of a gun. I've always searched in firefox by hitting slash and typing the search term, but that doesn't seem to work in the pdf reader. I guess, if I had searched for key bindings I coulda figured that out for myself.
    thanks!

  • If I try to download a pdf document, it appears in the tab but not on screen. I am using Firefox. I tried it with Safari and the document appeared on screen but it wouldn't print.

If I try to download a pdf document, details appear in the tab but not on screen. I am using Firefox. If I use Safari it appears on the screen but the print is blank.

    Hi...
    Quit your browsers.
    Open the Finder.
From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Typs this exactly as you see it here:    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin  (or just PDF Browser plugin) to the Trash.
Relaunch either Firefox or Safarai and try downloading a PDF document.

  • All my pdf documents have turned into firefox html documents and will not open correctly

All my pdf documents have suddenly become firefox html docs & will not open unless I go into the folder, right click, 'open with', etc. I haven't changed any of my settings. I think firefox did an update yesterday, however, so I'm connecting it with that, possibly...

    Try this:
    # Right click your PDFs, click Properties
    # Go to the General tab
    # In the '''Opens with''' section, click the ''Change'' button
    # Select Adobe Reader (or Foxit Reader/Whatever PDF viewer you use)
    # Click Apply then OK.
    Does it work then?

  • Uploaded pdf-documents generates code instead of pages in firefox and chrome (however they work in safari)

this is a new problem after having upgraded to mountain lion.
when I attach a hyperlink to my pdf-document that I like to display on the web - the pdf-document will not show up in Firefox or Chrome - it generates a lot of code instead.
I have only uploaded the files to my computer (not released on the web yet) - as I can see all files are neatly displayed in the appropriate pagefolder.
One of the themes (modern) provided as a standard feature in iWeb has been used. In Chrome the menu does not show up either (although safari and firefox displays the menu correctly)

I should have given you some info about testing the local version of your site. As you probably realise, its almost useless testing your site in Safari since hardly anybody uses it.
In OS X up to Snow Leopard, we could set up Web Sharing from System Prefs but Apple made this difficult in Mountain Lion.
See the bottom of this page for info about testing the local version of your website...

  • PDF Documents with Functional Buttons - Works for IE and FireFox but not for Chrome and Safari

    To all,
Good morning.  Our institution developed a PDF document with functional buttons for printing and e-mailing.  When the document is viewed via Internet Explorer and Firefox, the functional buttons work as expected.  However if the document is viewed via Chrome and Safari, the functional buttons do not work.  The workaround for those who are using Chrome and Safari, the PDF document needs to be saved to their local drive before the functional buttons work.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?  If yes, what was your solution other than the workaround.
    Thanks.
