Firefox save dialogue window - qt-gt

Using kdemod3, compiz/emerald, firefox 3.06 (pgo), have tried both qtcurve and gtk-qt-engine, and most of firefox looks fine, but when i go to save a file, open a file, and some other random dialogue boxes, i get the following:
as you can see, no icons on folders (all four on the list are folders), and the "up one level" "home" and "create folder" buttons on the top right are blank. I have tried removing .gtkrc-2.0, linking it to gtkrc-2.0-kde. I've searched the forums and there doesn't seem to be any topics related to this.
Also, on taking the screenshot, even though ksnapshot had "show windows decorations" checked, none came through on the shot. switching to kwin as the wm, the window decorations show, but the buttons still blank, folders still have no icon:
and neither window shows hidden files or folders when checking the box (first shot had it off, but i turned it on and no changes were shown) (and yes, there is a hidden .directory file in the desktop which shows in konqueror).
any ideas?

Display corruption in open/save dialogue window

Anyone noticed this one - When opening or saving files in applications, if I drag the sidebar edge in the open/save window to make the column wider or narrower, then scroll any column to the right of the sidebar, the folders/files in that column blur and distort. This happens in most 3rd party apps - eg Word, Quark, Dreamweaver, also iTunes but not in Safari or Extensis Suitcase (which seem to use a slightly different type of dialogue window.
If I use the sidebar default width (where it 'clicks' to a set width), move the sidebar to it's furthest width possible, or close the sidebar altogether, the problem disappears.
I've only just noticed this issue, but I may just have never tried to alter the sidebar width in combination with scrolling before now - it may be an OSX10.4.5 issue which I've only updated to recently. The standard finder window behaves normally, it only goes weird when trying to open or save from an app.
Seems like Quartz is having problems somewhere.
I've trashed the sidebar preferences, removed and restored the sidebar items/aliases, repaired privileges but no difference.
I've tested this on a recent Hard drive/system backup and the problem appears there too. I've yet to test it on my old G4 as I can't get access to that today.
I've got a new G5 with a GeForce 6600 card with 256MB VRam so there shouldn't be a memory problem.
Any thoughts anyone?

Just found out it's a problem with the Wacom Intuos3 tablet pen - the symptom doesn't occur using the apple mouse (or the Intuos mouse either). Have reinstalled the Intuos driver, repaired permissions etc but problem persists. Sounds like an issue for the Wacom techies.

Why doesn't firefox save my windows and tabs from last time ?

i have gone to tools, options, then under the general tab i set firefox to start up : I set show my windows and tabs from last time.
When i closed firefox and then started it again it didn't work.
What can be done to resolve this issue please?

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

After CS4 installation browsers+programs crash if I use open/save dialogue windows

Safari save as window opens larger than screen size and I can't get to the

In safari, I choose File -> Save As. The save dialogue window is taller than my screen and the buttons get buried under my bottom toolbar. I can't reach the save buttons and I can't seem to reach the right hand corner to manual resize it. I've tried clicking the green button in the top left hand corner but it doesn't change a thing.

I tried clicking the blue export button so its pointing down and the save dialogue window does shrink. However, the adjustable dashes that normally appear in the bottom right hand corner, are not there. The only appear when the export button is pointing up. Too bad I can't reach it.
Your 2nd idea worked! My display was already at max resolution BUT I had a 2nd monitor and dragged the save box over and the smaller display was enough to reach that bottom corner.

Save dialogue

My Adobe save dialogue option is missing in all of my Adobe apps.
All of my apps are using the Apple save dialogue windows and the Adobe save dialogue option is missing.
All of my other Macs have the option available to switch the save dialogue window between Apple's and Adobe's save dialogue.
Any idea why the option to switch between them would be missing.

Version Cue has to be enabled in order for you to see the option.

I'm using Firefox version 3.6 on my '02 Mac G4. When I installed it, it worked fine, But then all of a sudden the "save" and "save as" windows stopped coming up at all when I selected "save" anywhere in Firefox. What happened and how do I fix it?

I downloaded and installed Firefox on my '02 Mac G4. It worked great. Now I have version 3.6. But my weird problem is one day when I ran it, the "save" and "save as" windows stopped popping up at all. I'd left click a picture and select "save as" and nothing would happen. I'd go to the menu and select "save" and still no window would pop up. It would just act as if nothing had been clicked. No loading icon or anything and no "save as" window. I've never been able to get it to work. The volunteer in the live support chat typed "That IS weird.." I tried his suggestion but it did nothing. I may have deleted the plist preferences file in the preferences library folder to get it started again after a freeze up threw it out of whack but I've never had this happen before.And i've tried doing that again to see if that would restore it. But the plist always regenerates itself and the "save as " window still never appears when I run Firefox. The "save" window works just fine in every other program on my Mac, but not in Firefox. Weird..

Leliforever, cheek you list of installed add-ons, the Ask toolbar can be installed without the users knowledge.

How to fix 'save as' dialogue window?

This happens in all of my Adobe software as well. But, when I go to save a file on my 2nd monitor the dialogue window is un-usable and can't be moved.

Reset preferences or try to change the resolution of your screen temporarily.

PDF opens "save as" window instead of opening (in Firefox)

Hi all,
I am using Captivate 5.5 to publish to .swf.
In my project I have a button set to open a URL or file, with a path to a PDF file.
It used to work fine in all browsers, the PDF would open in Reader or in a tab when the button was clicked.
However I just noticed that when using Mozilla Firefox, clicking the button now opens a "save as" window to save the PDF file, rather than display it. What happened?
Behaviour is fine in Chrome or IE.
Issue occurs whether the PDF is set to open in the actual or a new window, and whether the project is set to continue playing or not.
The project is entirely published and read locally.
I am at a loss. Can anyone give me a tip on how to configure my button to work the same in all browsers?

Never mind, I found the answer.
A matter of setting the Firefox options so that PDF files open in Reader or whatnot rather than prompt to save.

Firefox closes "Save As" window on some web sites when downloading

On some web sites, such as Scribd or PC World, Firefox will quickly force shut the "Save As" window when downloading. It happens so quickly that I barely have time to see the "Save As" window. The same web site on IE will not cause this to happen. I have done a web search and tried several of their tips, but the same thing happens on Firefox when I try to download from those sites. This problem started in Firefox 3 and is continuing in Firefox 4. Adjusting settings in or disabling AVG Internet Security does not work either.

Only security software (probably anti-virus software or the firewall) would show such a message if it was a Windows message, so you can check it there.

As stated earlier even though when I have an incoming message I hear the "Beep" Firefox does not open the dialogue window as it used to do.
Also I am not able to open a new dialogue window or tab by clicking on an online contact of mine.

Whether in safe mode or not. Usually hangs, when clicking close the window "wait for a response" or "close now" is presented.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Saving a setting in the Save As Dialogue Window

I feel like I'm overlooking something here. I use Preference Manager to keep the same user settings on all my computers at my school. In the Save As window I would like the expanded view on where to save using the column view. Is this a Preference Manager situation or something in the OS?
We use Carbon Copy Clone to install on our computers. I'm going to be restoring the computers with CCC but I'd like to get the Save As window correct before I start. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you for your input. That's the setting I want to save. Right now I have to manual do that. I'd like it to be open as the default. Most of my students are so new to the Mac OS let alone FCP. I need to simplify as much as possible. It used to do this but now I can't get it to save that as the default.
I've created a new Preference Manager and that's why I think it may be the culprit. I have gone into FCP and opened the expanded view. Then I save those preferences. I take the Pref. Man. file to another computer. Load the preferences and I still have to choose it manually.
It's obviously not the end of the world if I can't get it. The thing that bugs me is that it used to work. I might just have to get the old Pref. Man. file and make the current updates to the older one. This is normally how we make a new file but then we don't keep the old file around.
Any other suggestions?
