Firefox says add-ons are up to date but windows security says not

I get a message from McAfee that the vulnerability scanner found new updates. Adobe reader 11.0.8.4, Java runtime environment 1.7.0: update_67, Flashplayer for IE 15.0.0.167 and Flashplayer 15.0.0.152. When I look at my add-ons it says these are up to date. What should I do?

Those particular add-ons are plugins, and the plugin check page usually will flag the ones that need updating:
https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/
However, it's definitely not perfect.
For Adobe Reader, last time I checked, Adobe wants Vista users to stay on the Adobe Reader X series. To update Adobe Reader, I suggest using its Help menu, Check for Updates. This also will refresh the browser plugin if needed.
For Java, you can use this page: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
For Flash, you can use this page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (detects current browser)
For both Java and Flash, keep an eye out for unwanted extras and uncheck the boxes as needed.

• Firefox tells me I'm up to date, but it also says I'm running version 16. I can't download a current one (says file can't be found).

when I got to Firefox > About Firefox it tells me I have 16.0.2
However it also tells me I'm up to date.
From a quick search, it looks like you're on twenty something!
I tried to download the new one (for mac, British English) but it says "file not found".
Not sure what to do.

Current Firefox versions require OS X 10.6 or later, so if you want to continue using Firefox beyond Firefox 16 then you need to update to OS X 10.6.8 or later.

• When using Firefox, PDFs won't load natively on Mac Mountain Lion (10.8.2), even when all add-ons are disabled. No issue using Firefox on PC

Whenever I click on a web link, do download a PDF form, for example, I get this error message:
"We are sorry, but Adobe Reader is unable to show documents in this browser configuration.
Please use your browser to download this file and open it in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
To avoid this message in the future, many browsers provide a way to turn off certain add-ons, and some are able to show this document natively. Please contact your browser vendor for more details."

I hope U can tell me what to do and all my add ons are ok and my extensions are all good too!! thanks for helping me??

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files":
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar ("Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.
You can also check for problems with preferences.<br />
Rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.

• How to find out if my add-ons are compatible with new firefox version before i install?

Is there a way to discover whether any of my current add-ons will be disabled/incompatible *Before* I upgrade to a newer version of Firefox?
Whenever I've updated Firefox, I haven't found out until After the new version is installed that my favorite 'must-have' add-on is incompatible and there is no viable/satisfactory alternative to it. The loss of Certain add-ons is, for me, a deal-breaker to upgrading. And it's a royal pain to downgrade to the previous version to retrieve my add-on.
I don't know if addiction to particular add-on(s) is common - I figure I can't be the only one . . . ?
It would be So helpful if there were a database or list that shows which add-ons are/are not compatible with which versions of Firefox. Is there such a thing? If not, could one be created?
Thanks for your help!

Firefox 9.0.1 is a real old version and is no longer supported - Firefox 24.0 is the current release version.
Open the Add-0ns manager tab and click on More for each extension that you have installed. Near the bottom of each "More" there should be a link that will take you to the download page where you can verify compatibility.
Or use this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/is-it-compatible/ - but I'm not sure how well it will work when you are so many versions 'behind the curve'.

• I want to go back to Firefox 4, where can I find a download of Firefox 4? I will eventually use FF5, but just now too many add ons are not available

where can I find a download of Firefox 4, I feel uncomfortable with FF5 because so many add-ons are still missing, I will eventually use FF5, but right now I want to go back to nr. 4

Try using the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to override compatibility. <br />
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
Firefox 4 versions aren't supported by security updates that are included in Firefox 5.0 and Firefox 3.6.18. If you are gonna "go back", use 3.6.18 instead. <br />

• Is there a way to find out if current Add-ons are compatable with the latest upgrade ver. of Firefox before running the update?

I want to know if my current Add-ons and themes are compatable with the latest upgrade version of Firefox before running the update.

Hello azdec.
You can check the add-on's page at addons.mozilla.org if it's just one or two. I believe there is one extensions in the add-ons gallery that lets you see whether your add-ons are compatible with newer versions of Firefox. But you'll have to search for them, since I don't know how it's called.
I will remind you that if you want an add-on to be compatible with a newer version of Firefox, you need to contact its author.
Also, the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

• After updating to Firefox 4 from 3.6 on my mac OS X, my bookmarks and add/ons are gone. Can't restore bookmarks either.

Hi,
i just updated to Firefox 4 from 3.6 on my mac with OS X. Now all the bookmarks and the add ons are gone. Also can't restore the bookmarks, although they are displayed. What can I do?
Cheers Achim

You can get Firefox 3.6.15 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
If you really want 3.6.4 (this is not recommended), the "Previous versions" section of the following link shows how to find it - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Installing+a+previous+version+of+Firefox

• After updating to Firefox 8.01 all my add-ons are disabled & I have to manually reinstall those that still work after each reboot??

After updating to Firefox 8.0 & 8.01 all my add-ons were disabled.
I have to reinstall those that still can be enabled manually after each reboot. These, that I can reinstall, are:
Download Helper 4.9.7/WOT 20111107/Adblock 1.3.10/DivX plus Web Player HTML5 2.1.2.145/
All my other add-ons are incompatible with this version of Firefox! This includes Ghostery which I particularly miss,
This is annoying!

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

• Why do I have to force quit firefox? All my plug-ins and add-ons are disabled, and still firefox cannot quit.

Apple Q and Firefox > Quit Firefox do not work. The only thing that works is FORCE QUIT.

If Firefox hangs (stops responding) when you try to clear the cache and cookies and you have already disabled all Extensions and Plugins from the Firefox (Tools) Add-ons manager, then the problem could be one of the files in your Firefox profile. See Firefox hangs and try creating a new Places database, by opening the profile folder (via "Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Show in Finder"), then quitting Firefox, and deleting the file(s) places.sqlite and places.sqlite-journal (if it exists).
If that doesn't help:
Try creating a new Firefox profile for testing (this will not remove your existing profile ; you can choose between the two in the Firefox Profile Manager). See Managing profiles for details. For other ideas, see Basic Troubleshooting.

• All of my add-ons are gone!

Recently I had to do a system restore to get rid of a virus on my laptop. It worked, but now all of my add-ons are gone. (These were add-ons I've had for a long time, well before the time I restored my system to.) The one I'm most concerned about is Read It Later, since it had several months worth of links.
Just today I downloaded Firefox 3.6.13, in hopes a new version of Firefox would fix this problem. It didn't. When I go to c:\documents and settings\<your name>\application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles\73v5v5m4.default\extensions I can see my add-ons with read it later listed as isreaditlater@ideashower(2).com, but they don't show up when I look under tools\add-ons. I'm using Windows XP and the latest version of Flash, and AVG 2011 for my anti-virus.
At the very least, what can I do to get RIL back, ideally with all of my old links? If I have to re-download RIL, is there some way to save all of my old links?
Please help!

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button (in Firefox 4: right-click the extension -> "Find Updates") to do a compatibility check.
