Firefox & Schubert|it .pdf Plug-in

I've just started a new job where I've been furnished with a new Mac Mini (OS X 10.4.7, 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, etc.). This is the first time I've used a Mac on a network (btw: the system re-templates twice a week) and so I'm still having to get used working on a machine that's not my fully customizable iBook G4.
One place where I've run into a snag is with Firefox 1.5.0.4. Instead of using an older version (1.0) on the server, I'm running a newer version (same as what's on my laptop). I've installed the Schubert|it .pdf browser plug-in, but it's not working!!!
I've put it in the following two places to no avail (yes, there have been log-outs and restarts) :
1) Home -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins
2) <Mac Mini> -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins
Has anyone else had this problem? When I tried to do some troubleshooting using tips from www.mozdev.org (checking QT settings, etc.), and every thing's as it should be in order for the plug-in to work. I can't figure out what's going on.
A second issue--it may be related--I had to manually change the setting in Preferences -> Downloads -> Download Actions to keep Firefox from using Preview to open .pdfs.
I'm perplexed--I didn't run into any of these problems with the plug-in on my other computer.

Try setting Firefox to open in Rosetta; this requires that you have an universal version of Firefox installed, and it won't work with a version which only contains Intel code. To check which architectures an application has installed, select it in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu.

  • I have repeatibly loaded Adobe Acrobat Reader but the Plugin Check gives me Adobe Acrobat Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 Outdated Version Update. While the plug in check is important it is quite bothersome at present. Please help.

    EVERY TIME the browser boots it kicks off the plug in check. I understand that this is important but it is currently a pain. Once I update Adobe Acrobat Plug in the browser does not recognize that the plug in has been installed and keeps coming up and up an up an up.

  • Adobe PDF Plug-in for Firefox & Netscape ''9.4.1'' was causing unresponsive problems on my browser and I had to disable it . Is there anything I can do about this?

    I was getting an unresponsive script warning on most web pages, but more persistent on Windows Live telling me to stop script or continue. I could view the pages by doing both and the only way i could stop the warnings from appearing was to disable the Adobe PDF Plug-in. Increasing the time for the script to run didn't seem to work either. It was taking too long for the pages to load and Firefox used to hang.
    After disabling the plug-in it stopped doing it.
    Does disabling it effect my browser in any other way?

    Hello Vivek,
    I have learned I do have the latest Adobe Reader installed and that the plug-in is included in that download & install. So apparently the problem lies with the Firefox plug-in checker.
    I did the ALT + H, while in FF, & deleted the file, retried update, using the Firefox Plug-in Checker w/same results.
    Then I exited FF, did the Windows key + R typed in %APPDATA% & located it then deleted it, and now wouldn't you know the Plug-In Checker is not working, (We've encountered an error. Please try your request again later.)
    Just gave it another shot & it's working . But still no joy, same results, showing the plug-in needs updating - being outdated version.

  • Adobe pdf plug in for firefox, 10.1.4 version, does not work but can not update to new version, why?

    Adobe pdf plug in does not work, when I tried to update following message appeared, "Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and lower has been blocked for your protection", how to solve this problem?

    Could you review/adjust your preference for which program opens PDFs? I'm not sure how that drop-list behaves when there are multiple Adobe plugins. You might need to physically remove an old plugin file or two to make sure Firefox is not trying to use the old one.

    * C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins (only one want nppdf32.dll here)
    * In regedit.exe, check the following key for the source of obsolete plugins: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins
    Both the file that stores download handling preferences, and the file which registers plugins, can be renamed and Firefox will regenerate them, so those remains options for further actions as well.

  • How can I find a PDF plug in for Firefox 5 running on Mac OSX (10.6)

    I recently installed an Update and received a message that my PDF Plug In for Firefox would be disabled, but that when the Update had been installed the Plug in would be enabled. This has not happened.
    I am running Firefox 5 on Mac OSX (10.6)

    I've tried the download three times. It reports that installation was successful, but when I use Firefox I still get only an option to download the .pdf; I still can't read it within the browser. This fix WAS for Firefox 5.0, right?

  • Acrobat v9.4.6 Update does not update Firefox v3.6 Adobe PDF Plug-In

    I have Acrobat Pro v9.4.6.252 and I havd used the Repair Acrobat Installation option but I notice that Firefox v3.6.22 and now Firefox v3.6.23 is still using Adobe Acrobat PDF Plug-In v9.4.5.236.  Should the repair Acrobat installation of Acrobat Pro not update the Firefox Plug-Ins as well?
    Just curious if anyone else noticed this as well.
    Thanks.

  • PDF Plug-in for Firefox on Macintosh Copy & Paste

    PDF Plug-in for Firefox on Macintosh needs to allow for copy and paste functionality using the keyboard instead of only working with a mouse click when filling out online forms.

  • CID or ContractID for Firefox PDF Plug-in XPCOM (XPT)

    Can anyone at Adobe tell me the CID / ContractID for the Web2PDF Firefox plug-in for the XPCOM (IWeb2PDFComponent.xpt) component?
    For some reason, the XPT isn't loading and I wanted to try it by CID.
    web2pdfcomp_cinst = Components.classes["@adobe.com/Web2PDF/Web2PDFComponent;1"].createInstance(Components.int erfaces.IWeb2PDFComponent);
    Thanks to lazy coding, the plug-in fails silently because the // TODO was never done...

    I upgraded to Acrobat X specifically for the PDF plug-in support for Firefox, and it doesn't work.

  • PDF Plug-In For Firefox found at my IE Program Folder?

    Hi:
    During recent troubleshooting of my Adobe Reader 9.5.2 update's installation, I found a 'PLUGINS' folder containing a copy of the 'Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox (nppdf32.dll)', located at my Internet Explorer Program's files folder.
    I wonder what would a Plugin for Firefox be possibly doing with my IE's files?
    Does anybody know or have seen this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files.  How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?
    Message was edited by: veeryTalonted

    "Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
    Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
    Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
    Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.

  • How can I/Can I make Firefox the default .PDF viewer in Windows 7?

    For the basic PDF viewing I do, Adobe Reader is just slow and annoying. I love using Firefox, but unfortunately I cannot set it as the default program to open PDF files. Even when I select Firefox after right clicking and select open with, Windows does not comply. Is there a config option I can change that will allow me to set Firefox as the default PDF reader.
    Thank you for your help.

    You can not make Firefox the default for viewing PDF files for the entire Windows Operating System, only the default viewer from within Firefox. Like when PDF files that are downloaded from websites and displayed in Firefox; you can try using '''File > Open File''' from within Firefox to view PDF file that are already saved on that PC, but I'm not sure that will work - I haven't tried doing that.
