Firefox scrolls pages extremely slowly, about 1 line per 5 notches, regardless of settings for autoscrolling and smooth scrolling or mouse driver settings.

This issue is pretty consistent, though restarting my computer occasionally puts it back to normal, but before long it slows down again on its own.
Firefox is the only program scrolling slowly, Internet Explorer, Word, Photoshop, Windows Explorer etc. are all scrolling fine.
have used the following mice on both computers with the same slow scrolling issue:
Microsoft intelimouse, wacom mouse and pen on Intuos 4 tablet, Logitech gaming mouse
On the laptop, the multitouch function on the touchpad works well consistently for scrolling.
I did resolve this problem temporarily by uninstalling Google Chrome. I have not reinstalled Chrome, however, and the problem keeps coming back.

  • Pages scroll extremely slowly when using my mouse scroll wheel, regardless of the settings I have for autoscrolling or smooth scrolling.

    It scrolls about 1 line for every 5 notches I turn the scroll wheel.
    I have to either use the scroll bar or the arrow keys. All other programs like Internet Explorer and Word, Photoshop, etc. scroll normally with the scroll wheel. Currently I am using the mouse on a Wacom Intuos 4, but the same issue occurs with the pen using the "pan" function and also with a run of the mill corded microsoft intelimouse.
    Also, I'm having this issue on 2 computers, one lenovo laptop, Win 7 professional 64 bit, and a Lenovo desktop with Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

  • Firefox 4 doesn't allow me to scroll the page even though I have autoscrolling and smooth scrolling ticked in Tools Options Advanced:General. Can this be fixed?

    After updating Firefox to Firefox 4 I cannot use my page scrolling in the browser. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad and use my Trackerpoint for scrolling. All other applications work fine with the Trackerpoint. Can someone fix this or tell me what I need to do to enable scrolling?

  • Make Flash Plug-In for Firefox Remember Privacy Settings for Camera and Mic Access on Local File

    My company is using Flash Player to develop some kiosk-style applications to run on a standalone computer (no network connection). This computer will contain web pages containing Flash content. They will be opened from the local HD with Firefox with the Adobe Flash plug-in (v11.7.700.224). One of the applications accesses the microphone hooked up to the computer. When this application is started, it always asks for permission for "local" to access the microphone and camera. In previous versions of our system, we could click "Remember" if we did it once and that would make it so it wouldn't ask for permissions again (in this case, the Remember option isn't available, and the site settings don't even offer the Privace tab). However, in the previous case, we were running IE with a previous ActiveX Flash version (unfortunately, this approach is no longer available as we have had to switch to Windows 8 and that changes the game with IE and Flash entirely).
    At this point, we have tried to use the Global Settings for "Camera and Microphone Settings by Site..." to enter "Local" as an always allowed site. This does not seem to have any effect. We also tried entering the root directory of the applications in "Trusted Location Settings", but that also seemed to have no effect.
    I'm not sure what has fundamentally changed here. I think there might be some differences in the Plug-In version (compared to ActiveX), but I'm not sure what they might be or how to do the same thing as before.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Chris,
    We learned that the Privacy tab (in Settings) can be found under the Flash plug-in for Firefox, but only if Firefox is running under an administrator.
    Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck with the mms.cfg file. The following was used in the mms.cfg file (placed in both the %WINDIR%\SysWow64\Macromed\Flash and %WINDIR%\System32\Macromed\Flash” directories):
    AVHardwareDisable = 0
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = local
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = 127.0.0.1
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = localhost
    AutoUpdateDisable = 1
    The AVHardwareEnabledDomain settings seem to be getting ignored regardless of whether the user is a standard user or an administrator. I also checked to make sure it wasn't just a local problem by going to a website that uses a microphone (http://www.testden.com/accent-reduction/systemcheck.htm). Adding the requested domain to the list (AVHardwareEnabledDomain = train.act360.com) still didn't bypass the allow/deny dialog box.
    We know that the mms.cfg file is being read because setting "AVHardwareDisable = 1" will result in no prompt and that section being greyed out in Global Settings. I saw a post that suggested this setting was required to even make the AVHardwareEnabledDomain work, but it seems to block the local entirely and still brings up the dialog query on the internet site.
    Thanks,
    Torrey

  • Safari is Loading Pages Extremely Slowly

    Ever since this morning Safari is so slow as to be useless.  My internet connection is fine, Chrome and Firefox load pages at a normal speed, downloads are fast, all of that.  But in Safari... I typed www.google.com and waited MINUTES for the page to load.
    I've used the Reset feature that clears everything out.  I've quit the program and relaunched.  Rebooted.  Let the computer sit off all day.  No change.
    Out of ideas and using Chrome as my primary browser, but would like Safari back.  I'll take any and all suggestions!
    Version 6.0.4 (8536.29.13)

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Firefox start page comes up, but it will not let me search for any new information

    Yesterday FF crashed and I ssent you acrash messaage. Todaay,

    Thank you for submitting a crash report. That data is used to watch for trends and prioritize fixes, but here on the forum we can't access your report without a crash report ID. The last section of this article describes how to find that: [[Firefox crashes]].
    Regarding the start page, are all of the different boxes broken?
    * search box in the page
    * address bar
    * search bar on the right end of the main toolbar
    In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
    After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?

  • Am using Firefox 5.0.1, any new tabs open with a search engine for imvu and when I go to about:config there is no entry for browser.newtab.url that I can modify

    I am using Firefox 5.0.1.4205 with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack1. My new tabs in Firefox open with a search engine for imvu rather than google as I would prefer. I can't find an answer to my problem so far because when I try the recommended use of about:config and finding browser.newtab.url; it is not listed. Is this version of firefox to old to have that, or is it just missing? What can I do to get my new tabs to open with a Google search engine. This is on my 80 year old father's computer so he is not likely to upgrade browsers as I would on my home computer. Thank you for any help with this.

    The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, ''Firefox 10'') , which is why that pref can't be found.
    Sounds like your father picked up some Malware.
    Maybe this is what you're dealing with.

  • Firefox is still crashing too often. This problem has been ongoig for months, and Firefox is not responding to crash reports.

    Firefox crashes unexpectedly when loading some pages. It does not crash on specific pages. It will crash unexpectedly on any website.
    I have settings set to send reports to Firefox, but I have never received a response or fix.
    I tried fixing the problem using the knowledge base. It did not fix the problem.

  • How do I save my Firefox bookmarks, task bar (I have it set up with all kinds of folders and bookmarks) to a flash drive in order to transfer all the info to another computer?

    ''Duplicate post, continue here - [/questions/777069]''
    I would also like to transfer all my saved passwords if possible. I want to go to the store ASAP, but I need to do this before I leave--I would appreciate some quick help. Thanks!!

    The user data is stored in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the contents of the profile folder, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup Profile backup - MozillaZine Knowledge Base] or [[Backing up your information]].
    There are some add-ons and utilities that can make this process easier. The first one is the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109/ FEBE] add-on which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free [http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ MozBackup] utility.

  • Firefox will not recognize when I change the settings for .torrent and .rar files to "do this automatically for files like this from now on", EVEN AFTER I change the setting in Tools Options Applications.

    Um, why is this? I think my Question pretty much covers it. Is there a way I can fix the settings so Firefox automatically opens .torrent files and .rar files with the programs I tell it to always use?

    I'm sorry to hear that you didn't receive a reply to this problem. As far as I can tell, there '''is''' no reply or solution to this problem so far, as I have exactly the same problem too.
    One solution that I did try (and which worked, but not for my exact needs) was to tell Firefox to ''always'' '''save''' the torrents to the download folder. Then, in your personal torrent program, change the settings so that torrents from the download folder are automatically searched and added. In this way, torrents are automatically loaded in your torrent program. However, for me, I need to see the contents of the torrent before I download it all, which wasn't possible with this method. If that isn't important to you, this should be a sufficient solution.

    Lewis

  • Can someone please tell me the default Firefox settings for Fonts and sizes (the advanced font settings, too)? I started playing around with mine and now I just want them back to normal, but there's no reset button for fonts, just the zoom features. Help!

    Under "Firefox," "Preferences," and then "Fonts and Colors" there is a setting that I would like to know the default for, as well as all of those that you see when you select the "Advanced" button for Fonts.

    You can see the defaults in a screenshot in this KB article: [[Some text shows up bold after upgrade]]<br />
    You can check the font setting in: Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors: Advanced

  • Is it possible to have different margin settings for odd and even pages?

    Hi guys.
    I am formatting a book I want to get printed and it would be very helpful to have different margin settings on the odd and even pages so the text won't fall too close to the gutter (as happened in the proof copy I ordered!).
    It's possible to do this on Word, but I can't seem to do it on Pages? Am I missing something?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Thanks Peter. I upgraded to Pages 5 a while back. I guess my next question is.....is there any way I can downgrade to Pages 09...anywhere I can still download it from?
    Seems a bit of a backward step, but needs must

  • Can we start a relatively elementary thread about the quality level of a saved .jpg file and its relation to camera resolution settings, if any?

    My daughter has thousands of photos shot with a maximum resolution setting on her camera, each one occupying an approximately 4 MB file and apparently capable of generating a quality 32x48 print -- clearly a case of overkill.  I think she's doing it because she thinks it will maximize print quality.  I know it's exhausting our disk space.
    In PSE9, I've taken a sample .jpg file (4 MB) and saved it as three .jpg files: at maximum quality (5.2 MB), 50% quality (934 KB), and minimum quality (359 KB).  Note that the minimum quality file represents a 90% reduction in disk space! Then for each of these four sizes, I printed it on letter-size plain paper, and again on 4x6 photo paper.  They looked identical to me.  I asked her to compare them (she did not know which photos had which quality) and with her calibrated eyeballs she thought that the minimum quality was a bit more "pixellated".
    I successfully experimented with the editor's "Process Multiple Files" to resize the photos and I am pleased with its performance on my iMac -- less than seven minutes to convert 197 photos.  As a further test,  I ran 5 photos four times: low-quality and high quality, each at 300 dpi and 600 dpi.  Again I saw no apparent difference between 300 dpi low and high quality on letter-size plain paper, but I was taken aback to see the 600 dpi print as approx. 4x6 in the center of the letter-size paper.  I took another look at the four of them in the PSE workplace, and sure enough, the 300 dpi files showed up approximately letter-sized and the 600 dpi files showed up as approximately 4x6.
    Obviously I'm dealing with apples and oranges here, and this is why I'd like to see some elementary-level conversation on this subject.

    Thanks for the hints, Lundberg. Google led to ImageJ. Rather difficult to understand what it does, but fun to play around with. Further reading led me to this statement:
    Another sinusoidal transform (i.e. transform with sinusoidal base functions) related to the DFT is the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT).
    And since jpeg is based on the DCT I thought: simply compressing an image at jpeg and looking at the file size will probably give info re the sharpness of the image. At maximum jpeg setting, there was a significant reduction in file size for a particular image when I applied a Gaussian Blur. So all I have to do is work out how to relate the jpeg file size to the minimum acceptable resolution.
    Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.
