Firefox sec_error_unknown_issuer

I have a brand new install of Firefox and am trying to get to a site owned by ANZ bank (one of the largest financial institutions in Australia).
https://uatepr.onepath.com.au/epr/launcher/launcher.aspx
The certificate is issued by "VeriSign Class 3 International Server CA - G3", so why is this certificate not recognised by Firefox?

hello jarvieia, the site you have referenced [http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=https://uatepr.onepath.com.au doesn't properly implement a certificate chain] that links their certificate issued from a intermediary instance to the root certificate authority trusted by the browser.
you can visit https://www.symantec.com/page.jsp?id=ca-ra once - that should be enough to store this intermediary certificate used by the bank in the certificate store of the browser.

  • Firefox error "sec_error_unknown_issuer"

After years and years of using Firefox, I decided to leave it and start using Google Chrome.
    Why ?
Because Firefox returns error "sec_error_unknown_issuer" very often, when I access to my usual websites.
Something must have been wrong with last Firefox update.
Getting these SSL errors on every other site is starting to really get annoying! There is nothing wrong with the SSL certificates or the sites. It's your browser that is unable to verify the certificates.
When you fix it, maybe (only maybe) shall I return to Firefox.
    Have a good day.

hello, this is most probably caused by external factors and a possible solution depends on different factors. please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
<br>which '''issuer information''' does the certificate contain?
    thank you!

  • Firefox recently began blocking my companies instance of SAP to launch another page. How can I bypass (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

    This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to xxxx.xx.xxx, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
    What Should I Do?
If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
xxxx.xx.xxx uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

hello ntbinkle, the issue with missing intermediary certificates ideally has to be solved by the server in question by properly implementing a certificate chain, linking the ssl-certificate for the url to the root certificate authority.
as a workaround, you might be able to manually import the missing intermediary certificate - therefore please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page under ''i understand the risks'' & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):

  • Firefox is complaining about a no. of secure websites (sec_error_unknown_issuer)...

I've recently re-built the computer. It's Windows 7 Home Premium and is fully upto date (as far as Windows update in concerned). On top of this a fresh installation of FireFox 5 has been installed. Since doing this (compared to pre re-build) FireFox is displaying "Untrusted Connection" errors for a no. of different https:// sites. All of the errors are the same:
xxx.xxx.xxx uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.
    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
The main sites at the moment are mail.spamcop.net & store.playstation.com. Any help would be most appreciated as this is causing us some real headaches.

You can test the certificate chain via a site like this:
That will confirm that both servers do not send the intermediate certificate that is needed.<br />
Firefox automatically saves intermediate certificates that a sever sends and with a new set up (profile folder) those certificates may not have been saved yet.
You can Copy and Paste the red certificate text on the www.networking4all.com site to a .cer text file and import the certificates in the Certificate Manager.
DON'T set any trust bits, those are only required for root certificates and not for intermediate certificates.

Did you check the details of that certificate like the issuer and when it is valid by retrieving the certificate?
    * Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    * Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.

Check sales.sauer-danfoss.com for details with Firefox 7.
    Thanks

You are not sending the TC TrustCenter Class 2 L1 CA XI intermediate certificate
    *http://sales.sauer-danfoss.com/
Web servers need to send all required intermediate certificates to build the chain to build-in root certificates.
You need to install that intermediate certificate on your server.

  • When connecting to Google, Firefox says it's not trusted and returns the error "sec_error_unknown_issuer"

I'm running the latest version of Firefox on Windows 7 Home Premium. I use Kaspersky antivirus.

Kaspersky has a feature to scan your web traffic and when it wants to scan HTTPS connections it needs to intercept and decrypt the traffic, which requires presenting Firefox with a fake certificate.
This support article has the steps for setting up Opera by importing a certificate file generated by Kaspersky, and it's most similar for Firefox:
    http://support.kaspersky.com/us/9093#block1
In Firefox, you would import the .cer file using the Advanced Panel of the Options dialog, here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Certificates mini-tab > "View Certificates" button
When the Certificate Manager dialog opens, click the Authorities tab (as you would in Opera).
Can you get the certificate imported and get to Google?

I just downloaded the new version of Firefox and now every site I used to use such as Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube show "This Connection Is Untrusted". Even when I do accept the risks the site no longer looks the way it's looked for years. Twitter doesn't even give me the option to accept the risks at all and shows this error (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer). I've tried resetting Firefox, I've checked the time and date, and I've removed and added Firefox to see if that would work. Nothing seems to be working so I can see the sites the way they normally would be instead of "coded". Can anybody help me please?!!! Thanks

ok, unfortunately the fiddler2.com issuer in certificates might be a sign of unwanted software present on your pc that is intercepting secure network traffic. please go into the system control panel and uninstall programs like BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard or other software that sounds suspicious and didn't get installed by you intentionally.

Went on the internet on Friday but a box appeared saying firefox could not verify web page and somebody could be trying to impersinate the web page this was my home page it gave me two options the first was get me out of here or that I understood the risks and to continue I clicked the latter and my home page came up this box continued to appear on each occasion I tried to acess any web pages but when I tried to acess Facebook the box only gave me the option of get me out of here it also did this when I tried to acess Mozilla Firefox to see whether there was a problem with the browser I tried to reinstall the browser but the problem persisted I finally got round the problem by reinstalling my computer to an earlier time before I did this I also have the option for Google chrome on my computer and this browser worked fine Facebook etc I prefere Firefox but although the warning box hasn't materialised since I reset my computer Firefox has become unstable where it has frozen on a web page and the only way I can get out is to start the task manager and end the programme even though the task manager is saying that the page is still working correctly but after I have ended the running of the programme it will not reload the firefox browser but again google chrome is fine I have to restart the computer to fix this problem any ideas thanks.

  • Sec_error_unknown_issuer for a certificate trusted by every other browser

    Dear Forum mebers,
I completely gave up this, so I hope somebody may have seen this issue and could resolve it :) We have an intranet corporate site, based on Windows Server 2012 R2 IIS server. I built up a single, WS2012R2 Standalone Root Certification Authority, and this CA only issued just one certificate -> for this site. After this, I imported the CA certificate to the trusted root certification authorities node via Group Policy.
Now, every single web browser can open the page without any problems (since the CA is trusted), only FireFox not. The issue happening is sec_error_unknown_issuer. What could I do with this? I tried to google a lot, but there is always speaking about intermediate certificates and certificate chain. But this time, there is absolutely no intermediate CA, since I have only a Root CA!
Are there any suggestions which I could try?
Thank you a lot for your help!
    Best Regards,
    Christian

Is that root certificate also imported in Firefox because Firefox uses its own certificate storage and stores extra certificates in the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder?
