Firefox security update ?

It was some days ago when the Mozilla foundation announced a security update for firefox. Firefox 1.0.2 takes care of several serious security issues. When can we expect an AL package to update our vulnarable systems ?

A maintainer should be aware that there are security issues with packages he/she maintains. Especially when it is news on all major newssites anyway.

    When signing in to eBay, I get an error message stating that there was an error in my input when I attempted to sign in... which also brings up the sign in page again... had no problems prior to the Firefox Security Update 3.6.6..... I can "claim " I forgot my password and using the forgotten password link... get into My eBay... but if I log out and then sign back in a day later... it's the same old thing all over again.... this browser is becoming as much a problem as Internet Explorer has been for years... Firefox used to be simple, straightforward and fast... now, there is little difference between it and the Microsoft hog... IE

    Any computer tech would know that it is likely not firefox causing this issue, but an incompatibility with a new ebay sign-in page and the firefox browser. The browser only does what the code on the page tells it to. I have seen the issue with other sites that work with IE or with Safari, but not firefox and some that work with firefox and IE but not Safari, it is the web developer's fault for the page that isn't working, not your browser.
    ---It is possible that it is a firefox issue, but it is most likely an issue with the webpage itself. I do not have a problem signing into ebay at all with firefox.

  • I downloaded the latest Firefox security update and my computer will no longer access the internet in any fashion, despite the fact that I'm still connected to the internet. Other browsers no longer work either.

    Immediately after I downloaded the latest firefox security update my computer will no longer access the internet. I still have a fine wireless connection but Firefox, Internet Explorer, Itunes, and every other program will no longer access the internet, saying there is a connection error. I even tried restoring my system to a previous date but it said that a security program was preventing it from doing so.

    What's the security program called? Is it '''Win 7 Security''' by any chance? There's a rogue AV app that will prevent internet access by that name. It comes in many different flavours, but it's basically the same product with different names depending on the operating system its aimed at. See screenshot.
    Do you have another computer you can use to download Malwarebytes? Or can you get a friend to download it for you and copy it to a USB drive? Download from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    You can use the USB drive to transfer the program to your own PC and then install it.

  • Why does Firefox Security Updates 3.6.8 & 3.6.9 say installed on Dec.31, 1969? Details link doesn't work. The 3.6.7 was installed on July 21, 2010.

    I saw a quick Firefox notice at the lower corner of my screen about security updates available or being installed so when I checked to see what they were, I found an installed update 3.6.7 on 7-20-2010, and the next one 3.6.8, said installed on 12-31-1969, the next one 3.6.8 says installed on 12-31-1969, and the last one 3.6.10 installed on 9-16-2010. I've clicked on the details link but nothing happens. Firefox has been acting a little strange lately (won't get out of Firefox when I click out of it unless I shut down my laptop, using 100% CPU and freezing so I have to shut down through Task Manager) can it be some kind of bug/glitch?

    Firefox safe mode is meant for diagnostic purposes and not for permanent usage.
    Possible suspects can be the BitDefender extensions (BitDefender QuickScan, BitDefender Antiphishing Toolbar) and plugin (BitDefender QuickScan Web Netscape Plugin)
    You can also remove the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
    Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools > Addons > Extensions
    Control Panel > Java > Advanced tab > Miscellaneous >Java Quick Starter (disable)
    See http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml - What is Java Quick Starter (JQS)? What is the benefit of running JQS? - 6.0
    If it does work correctly in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />

  • Each morning I get a notice to download a Firefox security update. When I click install, I get a message saying Installing Firefox and Connecting to the update server. It never connects; the progress bar just spins all day.

    Since shortly after installing Firefo 5 I get this message every time I start Firefox. A dialog box comes up that says Installing Firefox, followed by a spinning progress bar, followed by "connecting to the update server." It never progresses past this point and will stay this way indefinitely until I close the Window.
    Also since installing Firefox 5, the program crashes at least once or twice a day and I have to quit and restart. Don't know if there's any relationship between the two issues.

    If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
    Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • I downloaded a Firefox security update and now Firefox won't open. From what I can understand my firewall is most likely blocking Firefox now as it doesn't trust it. I have NO idea what to do next, what firewall I am using or even how to find out. HELP!

    Tina,
    I would go crazy if this was me.  You may find this interesting from the customer agreement (to see full agreement go here:Customer Agreement | Verizon Wireless):
    "HOW AND WHEN CAN I DISPUTE CHARGES?
    If you're a Postpay customer, you can dispute your bill within 180 days of receiving it, but unless otherwise provided by law or unless you're disputing charges because your wireless device was lost or stolen, you still have to pay all charges until the dispute is resolved. If you're a Prepaid customer, you can dispute a charge within 180 days of the date the disputed charge was incurred. YOU MAY CALL US TO DISPUTE CHARGES ON YOUR BILL OR ANY SERVICE(S) FOR WHICH YOU WERE BILLED, BUT IF YOU WISH TO PRESERVE YOUR RIGHT TO BRING AN ARBITRATION OR SMALL CLAIMS CASE REGARDING SUCH DISPUTE, YOU MUST WRITE TO US AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ADDRESS ON YOUR BILL, OR SEND US A COMPLETED NOTICE OF DISPUTE FORM (AVAILABLE AT VERIZONWIRELESS.COM), WITHIN THE 180–DAY PERIOD MENTIONED ABOVE. IF YOU DO NOT NOTIFY US IN WRITING OF SUCH DISPUTE WITHIN THE 180-DAY PERIOD, YOU WILL HAVE WAIVED YOUR RIGHT TO DISPUTE THE BILL OR SUCH SERVICE(S) AND TO BRING AN ARBITRATION OR SMALL CLAIMS CASE REGARDING ANY SUCH DISPUTE."
    This may help you also: Arbitration and Mediation FAQs | Verizon Wireless
    You can dispute any charges by doing an Arbitration or Mediation.  I have never done it, so I can not help much there but this all may get you started.
    Let me know if any of this works! Good Luck! Please keep me updated. I really hope they help you.

    Since the most recent Firefox update 3.6.8 my banking institution no longer shows as having a secure encrypted connection, however, my bank assures me all is well with their certificates and that is a problem with the new Firefox browser update, can you give me some idea why it is doing this?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Right after the new Firefox update

    Hello Anne.
    Can you please try it in a new (temporary) Firefox profile and see if the issue is still present? See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles this article] to know how to create a new Firefox profile. Please report back the results.

  • Firefox will updage. I get this message: Something is preventing firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version

    I get this error message: Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox. I have uninstalled and re-installed. It did not work. Support tells me to click on Firefox at the top. I have no word at the top which says Firefox. I have the Firefox icon.

    This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
    Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • How can I get security updates without dealing with Firefox 4 update reminders?

    I tried Firefox 4 for awhile, hated it and reloaded 3.6. I keep getting reminders to update to 4 which are bothersome. I have disabled reminders, but how can I continue to get security updates without upgrading to 4?

    Install Secunia's free Personal Software Inspector: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal
    You also need to update Flash a.s.a.p. The version you're running right now is a security risk. See http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-02.html
    Update via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Also, update Firefox to 3.6.17 because there was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.

    After going online this morning, using my firefox browser, a box came up saying a security update was available and should be downloaded and installed. This was done with no apparent problem.
