Firefox seems/is faster than Safari but why?

I always found Safari to be faster than Firefox. Safari 4 compared to Firefox 3.5 seems slower. Some pages take forever to respond in Safari and don't in Firefox. I also think the screen now refreshes faster in Firefox. I've looked at the specs and Safari is supposed to be much faster but I don't seem to be experiencing it as so.
Although Firefox is nicer for the Mac in its 3.5 iteration, I'm used to Safari having used it since I returned to the Mac in 2003. Also, Firefox doesn't support the same level of services as Safari. In Safari, I'm constantly using services to grab info to SOHO Notes folders.
Any idea why Safari might be performing like this.

Greetings,
The reasons behind your experience could be many, but try this to see if it improves things:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network.
In the DNS Server tab, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
click Apply Now and quit System Preferences.
Next, do these things in order:
1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
Downloads.plist
History.plist
Form Values
LastSession.plist
WebpageIcons.db
Repair Disk Permissions, then restart Safari and see if the speed is improved.

Knock on wood, this seems to have been my problem as well.  I stumbled on this thread after dealing with this ridiculously-long boot times for the past several weeks.
I just reinstalled McAfee Antivirus and my Macbook Air booted up in less than 1 minute.  No more hanging on the boot-up progress bar.  No more hanging after I click on my user's avatar on the log-in screen.  Bootup would often take 5+ minutes and sometimes never complete.
    This has been SUPREMELY frustrating.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR RESPONSE!!!

  • Netscape is faster than Safari uploading pages to busy site.

Netscape 7 is MUCH faster than Safari uploading pages to an interactive web site that has a lot of traffic. Several times using Safari to upload after filling out forms or doing other things, I've gotten impatient, switched to Netscape 7.02, did the same form or interaction, and sent the page. Netscape hangs much less time before the confirmation downloads to my browser. I've gotten confirmation via Netscape while Safari is still hanging, even though I tried to upload via Safari several minutes before I switched to Netscape. This has happened at NYTimes.com and other busy web sites.

  • Why is Chrome so much faster than Safari?

I'm an Apple and Safari lover, but love goes only so far. I have tried everything with Safari in Yosemite, but it's really in a sad state when it won't even open my Google account page, or my own website. Sadly, I have found so many pages that either load so slowly that I give up, or don't open at all in Safari, yet Chrome always works, and fast. In fact, Firefox and Opera, both of which I have never used regularly are much better than Safari right now.
Does anyone have a clue as to why Safari has turned into such a poor browser in Yosemite? But please don't suggest I go to safe mode. I only want a decent browser, which I would prefer was Safari and not Chrome, but I do not want to deconstruct or rebuild my Macbook Air OS installation.

Funny. I'm finding exactly the opposite to be true. I've used Chrome since it came out, and it used to be far superior to Safari. Lately I find it to be very buggy--lots of jittery, time consuming page loads and crashes. Frustrated, I imported all of my stuff to Safari where loading times, scrolling, and navigation are like butter. No crashes and no loading issues on my MB Pro. So far so good.
I do wonder if it has something to do with the "baggage" I developed on Chrome over the years. I kept things pretty tidy--purging history, cookies, etc-- but it still just kept getting worse.
I guess Firefox is an option, but one thing is certain: I will not be returning to IE ****.

  • Firefox draining energy fast and Safari is too slow

Hello, I bought my macbook pro in the end of 2011 and since mavericks it's has been nothing but disappointment, I am considering buying another computer to use Linux mainly because since I am a electronic engineering student, OS X doesn't satisfies my needs because most applications in my field are not available for it. But until then I will have to remain with it.
YOU MAY SKIP THE MESSAGE ABOVE AND JUMP RIGHT INTO THE ACTUAL ISSUE.
When I bought my macbook, I used to Chrome because it was faster. Then Mavericks came and it became a energy and memory hog. I started using Safari. But it's been more than a year since it's been a memory hog, it's slow that I spend most of my time finishing applications and I can barely get any work done because I need to research a lot and use lots of tabs, and if I do that, it simply will crash the computer and it will freeze for sometimes more than 5 minutes. Now I am working with Firefox and it's so fast. A part of me feels relieved for re-finding it. But it consumes a lot of my battery (current average energy impact is 18.34 and rising) . Can I do something to improve it?
What I have done in order to try and solve it:
EDIT: Cleared Sarafi's cache. Cleared Safari's History and just now Cache. I'll report back.
Reseted Firefox (created a new profile), disabled its hardware acceleration.
    Reseted PRAM and SMC.
Deleted all my music and also videos that I would not immediately use.

I think your 4GB of RAM could have something to do with it. 4GB is a pretty small amount and the minimum. Your system is really like a clogged vacuum and is not running to it's full potential. I would upgrade the RAM. My Macbook Pro is a Late 2011 2.2ghz i7 quad-core with 8GB RAM and fly's... After all, RAM is used to store files as you are using your system and when it uses up the 4GB writes those files to the HDD/SSD. The more RAM, the faster you'll be, because it will take a lot longer to fill up the RAM. I can put 16GB of RAM in my model, and plan on it. I also will be getting a SSD very soon and probably first.

  • 3.1.3 is much faster than 4.0 why?

I have conducted several speed tests. Its very disappointing. The only time 4.0 is faster is when multitasking and when the Apps are already open and eating battery. Why is 4.0 firmware soooo much slower?

The 2001 Drag and Drop learning interaction will give an array based on your instance names, when you request SessionArray[1].student_response.
This is very usefull as a set of results to export.
The 2004 Drag and Drop learning interaction will give a list like this {1.a,2.b,3.c,4.d,5.e,6.f}, as an exported set of results

  • Firefox seems to download updates correctly, but it never applies them. When I try to update manually, Firefox closes and reopens, but it's not updated.

This basically means that I have to watch for updates and update Firefox by re-downloading it from firefox.com each time. It's like the "Apply Update" button mysteriously turned into a "restart Firefox" button.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Might seem like a silly question but why don't pages automatically load when I type the URL in?

Sometimes they immediately open other times I have to hit enter for it to load. Why does this happen?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Software Mode is Faster than GPU acceleration, WHY?!

I just built my first computer with an i7 4790k and geforce gtx 770 gb graphics card.
For some reason software only mode keeps coming out ahead by about 20% faster in
    render and playback times.
Why would this happen!?  Someone please explain.

Thanks for the quick reply Kevin.
I read over the article and tried a new clip with some of the effects listed for CUDA acceleration and it played back seamlessly and
rendered 20x as fast with the graphics card.
Would your best advice just be to pay attention to which effects I'm using to determine which MPE mode to use?
Do you think that with new Premiere CC updates, the graphics card will play a bigger and bigger role in playback and rendering?
I guess I'm just feeling like maybe I should have invested more in my CPU and waited on the graphics card.
    What do you think?

  • I love Safari...But why doesn't it work with MySpace???

For some reason MySpace is the only site I always have problems viewing images. On my home screen, 90% of my friends pictures all come as the blue box with the question mark. When I look at someone's page, almost all user pictures are blue boxes with question marks. Whenever I browse for users...again, almost every single picture comes up as a blue box with a question mark!
Seriously, what gives? Every other site works perfectly and this problem with Safari and MySpace is the one thorn in otherwise superb browser.
I've tried, emptying the cache, deleting cookies, clearing history...I've even Reset Safari multiple times...Still, even with the new update...Safari and MySpace images do not work!
Can someone please help me shed some light on the situation...Cause it seems not many other people are having this problem. Thanks in advance.

It probably says more about MySpace than Safari but anyway you could try the latest nightly build of Safari's Webkit web browser engine. I always use this now and find it offers greater all round performance.
Try it and see if it helps.
Just click the big 'Download Nightly builds' button on this page.
    http://webkit.org/
In case you don't know, you just run the webkit application instead of Safari but in use it will seem no different than Safari because all you're doing is running an updated version of the rendering engine in Safari. Safari 3.1 remains untouched and you can switch back to that if you wish.

LabVIEW is much faster than 1ms, but software timing is limited to 1-2ms. Even that cannot be guaranteed on a multipurpose OS. For deterministic timing, you need to utilize hardware timing of your DAQ hardware or use LabVIEW RT of FPGA, for example.
10ns is awfully fast. What kind of function generator do you have and how do you communicate with it? How many points are in each 10ns chunk of waveform? Is this microwave? How many different functions do you have? Is there a repeating pattern?
Can you provide a bit more details on what you are actually trying to do? Seems quite unrealsistic.
