Firefox seems to run much slower after the update. My computer is old. Can I go back to an older version?

Does the new firefox require a better computer than the old versions? My internet has seemed to slow down considerably after updating to firefox 7. Is the new version of firefox the problem, or is it something else wrong with my computer? If it is firefox, how do I go back to another version?

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I simply want everything to work the way it had been forever until recently. However, I can't imagine Apple would intentionally make their own products obsolete by rendering them useless through a software "upgrade."  My MacBook is only 3 yrs old so I feel like I am simply missing 1 piece to this puzzle in order for things to start working again.   • I have Windows 2000, DSL access, and just updated to Firefox 7 which seems to run much slower in many ways: any thoughts?

    Firefox starts as quickly as before, but switching between tabs or closing tabs often takes forever. Also when I drag to highlight a long page and copy, the scrolling speed is much much slower than before. To highlight a long passage I have to drag just the beginning, hold that with the Shift key and use the arrow keys to highlight the whole passage within any reasonable time. Closing Firefox is usually as quick as before, but once in a while it gets constipated and takes 30+ seconds to close -- though I suspect this might have something to do with some open tabs. (By "close" I'm referring to when it leaves the screen, not later when it is dropped from memory.) I average 3 or 4 open tabs with brief periods of 8 or 9 open tabs.

  • Much slower after all updates?!

    Hi guys,
    I just installed the new airport extreme, all the updates and i can access the internet fine. The only problem? It's crawling. The base station is right next to my iMac, as was the previous one, and the only thing that changed was all the installs I had to do to get the new software.
    I didn't do anything fancy and I have it plugged in to my cable modem as before, but now it's just really slow. With the old Airport Base station it was fast and instant.
    Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

  • How do I get firefox to work after installing an update (Can I go back to an older version if possible)?

    I recently updated from Firefox 3.6.3 to 3.6.8. I skipped previous updates because of similar problem I'm experiencing now however now it is worse. Immediately after installation, messages windows pop up. The FIRST window says: “Firefox has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
    The SECOND window (with a red circle surround a white ‘X’) says: “firefox.exe – Unable to Locate Component. This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
    The THIRD window is called the “Mozilla Crash Reporter. We’re Sorry. Firefox has a problem and crashed…” where it gives me the option of submitting a report and restarting (which I have done).
    The problem happened during previous attempted updates which is why I tend to avoid Firefox updates until today. However, in the past all I would do is manually power off the computer and restart the computer. Firefox never completed the installation so I was able to use the older version of Firefox.
    Now I cannot do that because Firefox is updated to 3.6.8 which refuses to open. How can this problem get fixed? I am not “tech savvy” but loyal to Firefox (and for now I have no access to all my bookmarks).

    In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

    The latest versions of Firefox require at least Mac OS X 10.5 and an Intel processor. You can revert to Firefox 3.6.xx for Mac 10.4 by downloading the installer from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
