  • Firefox 4 doesn't open start page when started.

    Firefox 4 doesn't open start page when started. It opens the tabs that were open when I closed it. According to settings, it should open start page.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    If that didn't help then do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • My iSync program simply doesn't open.

    My iSync program simply doesn't open. I tried updating, re-installing... It doesn't open. I have the feeling it is some kind of conflict with some other application. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Yisel

    All of you need to slow down and take a deep breath.
    Don't conflate iSync with .Mac Sync: they are not the same thing, and—except to the extent that iSync lets Mac OS X 10.4 and later users interact with the 'invisible' truth database that is the focal point of the synchronization framework—they have nothing to do with each other.
    To understand what is going on in the background, you should read this document.
    There is NO downloadable update for iSync 2.x: you can only update it by installing or reinstalling a specific package or combo installer, using either the Software Update mechanism or by downloading and applying the appropriate combo update package which matches your specific OS and processor type. Do not download and apply the iSync 1.5 update, as this can only cause additional issues.
    If your iSync application will not launch, it is an indication that either your synchronization framework or the application itself is damaged or incomplete. Either case requires that you reinstall iSync 2 or later—using Pacifist—then update using the appropriate combo update package. An original Mac OS X 10.4 DVD will install iSync 2 and a Mac OS X 10.4.7 DVD will install iSync 2.3, both of which must then be updated to iSync 2.4 if you are using Mac OS X 10.4.8 through 10.4.10.
    If you need to reinstall iSync, you'll need to do it in a two-step process, initially using the Pacifist utility to extract it from your original Mac OS X 10.4.x Install or Upgrade DVD.
    Pacifist is available here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com
    To extract and install it, do this:
    Launch Pacifist. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD in your optical drive and wait for it to mount. Press the now-activated Open Mac OS X Install Packages button in Pacifist. Wait for the window to appear - it will take some time to load all of the resources - then double click on the Contents of Essentials.pkg file to open it, double-click on the Applications folder, select iSync.app then press the Install button.
    That will install a copy of iSync 2 into your Applications folder. Then run the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo update for PowerPC or intel processor based machines—whichever is appropriate for your platform—to update it to release 2.4.
    Those specific updaters are available at these links:
    • for PowerPC: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10410comboupdat eppc.html
    • for intel: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10410comboupdat eintel.html
    For those who want to update to a release earlier than Mac OS X 10.4.10, search the Downloads area at Apple Support for those combo packages. Remember that you must use a combo updater, as the smaller delta update packages and the Software Update mechanism will not complete this process successfully.
    In addition, iSync must remain in its default location in your Applications folder to be updated properly, and—in fact—to work properly, under some circumstances. Do not move it out of the Applications folder or into a sub-folder within it.

  • Firefox just won't open. I get the little timer that indicates that something is happening but nothing ever happens, no error message, firefox just doesn't open at all. Internet Explorer opens fine and firefox opened fine yesterday.

    Firefox has always worked great, no problems. Today it just would not open at all. The hourglass showed up like it was going to open but nothing would happen. I then right clicked the icon and chose open and the same thing happened which was nothing. I get no error message at all.

    One of your add-ons might be the culprit. Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If that solves the problem, see [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and possibly [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

  • Firefox 4 doesn't open in a homepage, but rather opens the last page I visited, which I HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    So far the Firefox upgrades are nothing but trouble to me and my computer. Where is the homepage. Why when I open Firefox from the desktop shortcut do I not get a homepage, but rather the last page I visited. I was doing bills, and finished but couldn't find the log off button, so closed the page, and then closed firefox. When I re-opened, it opened right to the page where I was still signed into my account!!!!!!! A security failure if I ever saw one. There is not one thing I have found to be helpful since Firefox first updated me to 3.6.14, then quit responding completely! So I tried the 4 Beta, and it is so far a disaster.

    If the Cookies window is open and no browser or other Firefox windows are open, opening a new browser window will now still open the last page visited instead of a blank page, even if "Show a blank page" is selected for "When Firefox starts:", and even if the last browser window opened was blank; I tested this by opening a webpage and then opening a blank browser window, closing the browser window with the webpage, then closing the blank browser window, then opening a new browser window while the Cookies window remained open. It is a time waster to have to continually close and reopen the Cookies window and a potential privacy disaster to have your website reopened after you closed your browser. Please, please, fix this.

  • I've tried everything--Firefox simply won't open. I opened the troubleshoot articles, but none of the fixes did the trick?

    Firefox will not open. I tried every single troubleshoot recommendation, and it still won't work. I thought it may be under the "corrupt profile data" troubleshoot article, but when I followed the recommendations to change to a new profile, the profile manager would not open or run on my computer--as if it never existed. I tried downloading a different browser, and as soon as I imported my firefox data, it started misbehaving in the exact same way.
    This is getting extremely frustrating. Anybody know what to do?

    I am not sure it is a good idea to have two security programs, but presumably it will be ok if set correctly, but I certainly would not for instance run two Anti Virus programs they would be likely to conflict.
    I am not sure if the error report may indicate Firefox is crashing but it needs the same steps anyway. So a brief explanation and a couple of suggestions.
    <u>Profiles</u><br/>
    Before even considering deleting or creating profiles a very simple & quick test is always worthwhile, using Firefox's Safe Mode
    *[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
    * [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data]]
    Problems with the profile may prevent Firefox starting or cause all sorts of problems. <br />
    (This is JUST FOR INFORMATION, I am not asking you to do anything.) <br/> Briefly the profile stores settings etc. and there are better options than just removing it. The simplest option is the Firefox Reset feature and although that looses extensions and some information it does at least retain bookmarks and passwords.
    *[[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]
    More advanced users have better options available if they wish such as creating new clean profiles although it does need some care to be taken
    * [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
    <u>Program Files</u><br />
    The profile and the main program files are completely separate. Possibly your problem is due to faulty program files or their installation. A clean install involves deleting these files rather than the profile files.
    <u>Next Steps</u>
    # Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode following the instructions from the article linked above. It probably will not help but is worth a try.
    # '''Do a clean reinstall'''
    ## you may want to copy or print the instructions
    ##download a new copy of the Firefox installer from <br /> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
    ##After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    ##Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default: (Windows)
    ##*C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    ##*C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    ##Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  • Firefox simply will not open today - and it's not running already!

    All the questions and answers on Firefox not running assume it's actually running in the background. Today, it just won't open. And it's not running (CNTRL-ALT-DEL no Firefox process).

    Poor program support, if I've ever seen it. All this forum is is an agglomeration of peoples questions - there are no answers. I had a new updated PC, got bad advice on the web on how to install my old profile (bookmarks, etc.) with the new Firefox...don't know whee I got the article, but anyway it didn't work and I lost my original profile. Firefox would neither open (says it was already open...I needed to close it first) but I was unable to close it. Anyway, multiple searches and requests and they just got glomped up with others with same or similar issues. NO ANSWERS! I finally just unistalled - manually - and will not again use or recommend mozilla programs to others.

  • Until very recently I used to be able to open multiple browsing windows in Firefox, but now I can only open one window & if I close down the session & try to reopen Firefox it doesn't open

    I can restart Firefox only after rebooting my laptop.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]<br />
    <br />
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")<br />

  • Firefox 3.6.9 doesn't open but is running in task manager

    I received Animalware via µTorrent and was very busy cleaning up. I changed from AVG (because it let it slip by) to Avira Anti-Vir, ran MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, among other threat removers. In the beginning, none of the current browsers, as well as Outlook Express, were able to connect, but as I progressed with the cleaning operation, IE, Chrome, Safari & Outlook Express were able to connect. Firefox still doesn't open and displays no errors, but runs in Task Manager using 95% of the CPU. I am also running online scans from Trend Micro, Panda and bitDefender. Meanwhile, if anyone has any other suggestions, I would be very thankful.

    Make sure that you do not remove your personal data when you uninstall Firefox. Then you won't lose personal data stored in a different location in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].

  • Firefox process starts but window doesn't open.

    All the suddenly when I start Firefox 11 the window doesn't appear but the process will start in task manager. Yesterday morning everything worked well, but when I came home at evening Microsoft Security Essentials wasn't starting it's protection. I got it working by installing it again. Firefox just doesn't open the window for me.
    -I have uninstalled Firefox and rebooted system
    -Ran CCleaner and Spybot S&D
    -Manually reset register values with regedit.
    -I have deleted all AppData and plugin files.

    You are absolutely right homercles. I should have been more precise with the things I did before I ended up on fresh install.
    My point in my last post was that I totally tried to re-install Firefox many times and did all the things other people told me to solve this problem. I even went to cycle throught windows registers manually that is also one thing that you don't want to do if you aren't absolutely sure what you are doing.
    My solution was absolutely the last thing you want to do to make things work and takes alot of effort, but as I made my judgement IN MY CASE it was the only thing I could do after week of trying to fix this.
