Firefox start page opens up as new tab whenever my home page opens

I've changed the default home page to another website.
Whenever Firefox starts up, two tabs will open ie. my homepage and Firefox start page. While browsing on any tab, if I click ALT+HOME to go to homepage, a new tab opens again for the firefox start page.
Why is this happening? It didn't happen with older firefox browser versions.

I have the same issue and figured it out. When you (and I) set our home pages, the Firefox start page was open also. Firefox takes every tab you have open when you set your home page. So close all but 1 tab and go to your desired home page and set it through the Tools>options>General tab. That fixed it for me.

    It's EXTREMELY annoying. >.>

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of instability and poor performance. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
Reboot as usual (not in safe mode) if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Next, this command:
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Again, one line. Finally, one more:
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/B,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Se,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Why cant I find an add-on to open a new tab in my home page on Firefox 5?

I have been able to open a new tab in my home page (Google in my case) in all of the other versions of Firefox. I am a loyal user but this is frustrating. I cannot locate an add-on for this feature. Is there something out there?

You can use one of the following IF you also install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, below (the developers need to update one line of their code to make them compatible with Firefox 5).

  • Even though set to open to home page, Firefox always opens in a new tab and to the previous tabs. All settings seem correct. I just want it to open in a new window to my home page

I cannot open Firefox in a clean new window to the home page. Options are set to open to home page and open new window in new tab is deselected. I do not want my history coming up every time I open. All new pages come up in a new tab with the existing one staying put.

This happens when I have multiple windows open. I have one window minimized on the task bar. I then launch a new firefox window and start surfing, opening multiple tabs in that window. Then I close that window. (My original window is still minimized in the taskbar). Now, I launch a new firefox window and the tabs that I had opened in the window I had just closed are all back.
If I close all windows and then launch firefox, it goes to my home page.
    FYI, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

  • When I right click and select open link in new tab, it leaves the page I am on and takes me to the first tab to the right

I usually have many tabs open when I read the news, and it is nice to select open links in new tabs while scrolling through a news' home page. Lately, however, Mozilla has been opening the new tab, but switches the page I am viewing to the first tab to the right of the home page. For example, I had ESPN.com open, and then a few Facebook tabs after that to the right. Whenever I would select open link in new tab, the tab I was viewing would switch from ESPN.com to the first Facebook tab to the right, and the new tab would open a little further down the line. Any chance anyone knows how to fix this?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • How do I get all hyperlinks to open in a new tab instead of redirecting the open page?

Simply put, when I hit a hyperlink I do NOT want the page I'm on to go to the linked URL -- I want the new URL to appear in a new and separate tab. FF used to do this just fine -- until I "upgraded" to 5.0.1 yesterday.
Between this and the smaller screen size for the FF browser I'm thinking of jumping ship back to Chrome...
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance...

Hotmail opens in a new window because the code or set of instructions on the MSN website tells Firefox to open Hotmail in a new window. I would suggest you right click on the Hotmail button and left click on "Open Link in New Tab". This will open a new tab in the current window.

  • Every time Firefox opens, I get new tab, with my desired page as a tab that I have to click on to get to. How do I go back to how it was in previous versions?

After updating to the newest version of Firefox, when it opens I get two tabs, and the one that comes up on my screen is new tab, with my homepage on the other, which requires that I click on it to go there. Also when I click on a link the same thing happens, a new tab page comes up, with what I clicked on as another tab that I have to click on to get to. This is actually quite annoying and inconvenient. How do I go back to the way that it was, so that when I start Firefox it opens on my home page, and when a new page opens, I see the content of the link that I clicked on? IMO This new and improved is really new and made worse.

An extra extension might have snuck in. These can be bundled with other software you might have installed recently.
Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable. (Or if completely unwanted, remove.)
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that get rid of the extra tab?
Note: I suggest also visiting the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and clicking the "Installed on" column header. This should bring the most recent additions to the top and group them by install date so you can investigate how unexpected software might have been installed.

  • Opening links in new tab will not load pages either from new link or bookmarked pages after firefox 3.6 update

After updating my fire fox to 3.6.3 I now cannot click on links into a new tab it will just open a blank tab, after hitting refresh, nothing happens. But when clicking bookmark link it will open in new tab as wanted but will not load unless I re-click it a second time. Clicking links normally will load page. Entering a URL like www.yahoo.com will not load either. To get to this page I had to a search engine like yahoo and type in fire fox website and it from there.

  • How do I get Firefox to open a new Tab in my home page intead of a blank Tab?

When I click on to open a new tab Firefox opens a blank page. In Windows IEX you can set this to open your favorite home page. Can this be done in Firefox. I've looked through all the settings and can't seem to find this featuire?

  • Is there a way to open new tabs in the home page or some other link?

When I open a new tab using the "+" symbol I get a blank page. I would like new tabs to open in my home page, or, if possible, a different page, like my favorite web browser, which is what I usually want when I open a new tab.
Can this be done? I can't find the right preference for it, assuming that's the right place for such an option.

Nothing beats about:blank in my opinion for clarity and for tab history.
Here is an extension that does what you asked for, it is VERY large for what you get out it (which to me, what I would get out of it is confusion).

When iam using firefox i selected google as my home page. But while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it. How can i get rid of this problem?

'''''"...while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it."""
Any search toolbar and changes to search engines can take place by downloading and installing software; usually "free" software from the internet. Babylon can be downloaded and installed by itself or as a "ride-along" when installing/updating some software from the internet. Always look for an opportunity during the installation to un-check boxes that will install "ride-along" items that you do not want. Firefox installation does not include such "ride-along" items.

Do you have the Ask toolbar? If you do uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
