Firefox starts treating URLs with .exe in them as downloads instead of pages.

I use an online database system which was written and compiled using CGI for VB. All of the URLs have .exe in them (e.g. http://www.website.com/record.exe?a=SMITH). I can work in Firefox for hours without a problem, but then seemingly at random Firefox will start prompting me with the 'save' dialogue, as if I was trying to download the .exe instead of just loading the URL. The only way to get back to normal is to quit the browser and re-open it. After that it's fine... for a while anyway.

Back up all data. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to keep or delete the keychain items. Choose to delete and confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.

  • I download Firefox then get this message: Firefox allow the "firefox Setup 19.0.2.exe couldn't be downloaded

I'm running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer 9. Firefox downloads then stops with the message above. How can I resolve this. I really want to use Firefox

Tyler: It wasn't just Firefox but also other .exe files that I couldn't download in IE9. Not sure what happened, I used to be able to do this but some update must have killed this. I've had some weird problems for the past 3 days.
I just bypassed IE9 by using Google Chrome that I had installed. This ran the Firefox download and install with no problems. So I'm set.
I don't know what happened to my IE9 but I think I'll stick with Firefox for now.

  • URLs with spaces

I know that's a contradiction in terms but here is my problem. My database contains large numbers of 'URLs' with spaces in them reflecting where the corresponding files actually are in the file system. In the longer term I can get them converted to use %20 but in the meantime I have the problem that h:outputLink translates the spaces into +. I'm just wondering if there's something in JSF that will turn them into %20 for me? ... other than fn:replace() which I guess is not a bad alternative ...
    Thanks in advance.

SharePoint is a Document Management system which is designed to be user-friendly. Naming all documents in your site farm with no spaces makes the document titles difficult to read for the end users. I agree that, programatically, no spaces is good, but unfortunately,
systems are used by human beings. So even though your suggestion has been marked as an answer, it's not really a solution is it?
The solution I came up with that solved my instance of this problem was to add a text column to the List I was working with, then put some JavaScript in the NewForm.aspx file that copies the file name into the text file and the applies an "encodeURI" to
convert the word spaces into %20 ...
So when I create a new item in my list, the JavaScript takes the file name, converts the spaces to %20, then copies the string into the text field in the list. When I build the WorkFlow Email, instead of concating the file name into a URL, I use the text
field that pulls out (for example) "my%20file" and adds the pre-amble (http://myserver/path/) and the suffix (.pdf) and I have a working URL ...

  • Using url with username and password in URL class

    Hi,
I'm writting an applet in which I use getAppletContext().showDocument with an URL.
The problem is that I'm using URLs with username and password (http://user:[email protected]/page) and it isn't working because the browser is getting the URL http://user/page.
Is this a bug in the URL class? Or in the showDocument method?
Is there any way to make this work?
    Thanks for any help,
    Pedro Prospero Luis ([email protected])

I'm not sure whether this is supported behaviour. I've had this syntax fail to work in the Netscape address bar so I can't recommend it as an approach for authentication.
If you want to authenticate the user before redirecting to the page, though, you could try creating a connection to another page on the same server and sending the authorization information then. Your browser may then be successfully authenticated.
See http://www.javaworld.com/javatips/jw-javatip47.html for information on this.
You might not need to read back the page from the server, just connect to it. Might work.

  • What is the URL for the Mozilla Firefox start page? This is the Google/Firefox home page with the Google search, which is the new version built into Firefox.

I'm not asking how to set my homepage to about:home. I'm asking for the actual URL. Thanks.

The http://www.google.com/firefox used to be the old Firefox start page for 3.6.* and earlier and has not been maintained by Google ever since Firefox 4.0 came out as to why this start page may have the "You're not on the latest version of Firefox" message at times.
The default homepage ever since Firefox 4.0 has been '''about:home'''

  • How can one specify that multiple windows open (each with its own web page(s) ) when Firefox starts?

I am on Firefox 15.0. I would prefer not to open multiple tabs to get multiple web sites up when Firefox is started. Instead, I prefer multiple windows. Some might have one tab, some might have several. For example, one window might have Gmail, another might have several different web pages related to weather, and another might simply have Google, and another Yahoo, and another, Orbitz. Since there may be five or six of these windows, with multiple web pages, perhaps 20 in toal, tabs get cluttered, and I don't prefer them anyway. I have plenty of memory and processing power.
Interestingly enough, if Firefox crashes, it allows you to restart with the pages it thinks you would want. It would be great to have a Start Firefox option similar to that!

You can reopen the windows and tabs from the previous session.
You can also use command line switches with a bash script or a modified Firefox desktop shortcut ant use -new-window -url <URL> to open a page in a new window.
    <pre><nowiki><path to firefox>/firefox -new-window -url <URL1> -new-window -url <URL2>
    </nowiki></pre>

  • How can I stop multiple tabs from opening along with Mozilla Firefox Start Page at launching time. How can this be stopped?

Whenever I launch Firefox, multiple tabs also start to open along with the Mozilla Firefox Start Page, which is very irritating. How can I stop this to happen each time I launch the browser?

It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

  • I have installed version 6.0.2. Everytime I start Firefox, a popup opens up titled 'opening firefox setup 6.0.2.exe' and offers to save the file. How do I stop this from popping up since I already have the version offered?

The update was attempted automatically, I think. When it would not complete it said download and run the update manually. I did that. Every time I start Firefox the Firefox Setup 6.0.2.exe file is offered up to save.

    * see [[firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]]
Probably you have accidentally added the new page as an addition to your home pages, or Firefox is having problems with your settings; it may help to close down with the <br/> '''Firefox button -> []Exit'''; rather than just quitting the application.

  • Firefox 4 fails to recognize a "Next" link on a secure Humana page unless I paste the link page address in the URL window, but IE7 treats the link just fine.

With the Humana Drug Pricing sequence, you enter a drug name and amount, click "Next" and you get a page for a nearby pharmacy locator. Click on "Next" on this page and you get a page with the retail price for your particular Humana plan. Works just fine with IE7 and Opera 11.11, but with Firefox 4 clicking on the second "Next" link has no effect at all. If I copy the full URL for the desired page from IR7 and paste it in the Firefox 4 URL location window, Firefox does go to that page correctly.

That behaviour is likely top be caused by an add-on, and in your case the likely culprit is IE Tab 2, the various versions of IE Tab have caused problems with Firefox 4 beta including issues with the location bar not being updated.
You can test to see if IE Tab 2 is causing your problem by disabling it and then seeing if the location bar in a new window shows the address. If it is not that add-on causing the problem, see [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
For info, the IE Tab Plus add-on has been updated recently to improve compatibility with Firefox 4 beta, you may want to try that one instead. The latest version is available from http://coralietab.mozdev.org/installation.html
