Firefox stays active in memory after closing program

After closing Firefox and restarting the progam after a while, a popup message appears saying Firefox is allready active (message in dutch) and Firefox does not (re)start. It is not an active window however, since I closed it down...
When I press alt-ctr-del, Firefox can be found as "active"in the processes-tab.
To re-start Firefox I now manually must click on "end process" and now Firefox starts without problem.
This happens on each occasion after closing the program.
Anyone know how to solve it? Help appreciated!

  • Old Microsoft Word Doc Labels Stay up With Gestures after Closing Program

    Macbook Pro
    Early 2011
    Just upgraded to Mavericks
Don't even know if this is going to make sense... When I do the four-finger-up gesture the tags/labels (not the actual documents) of the documents I had up in Word yesterday are still up.  I've closed those documents.  I've quit the program.  I've reopened the program.  I've opened and closed other documents.  It doesn't matter:  the little label thingies are still there (actually think they're overlapping older ones now).  WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
    Thanks.

Same problem here - Microsoft Word 2008 (update 12.1.7) will open fine, and then start the spinning pizza of death. Only way out is to force-quit the app. I've tried:
    1) deleting plist and font cache files
    2) uninstalling MS Office 2008, reinstalling and then re-applying updates 12.1.0 and 12.1.7
    3) confirming that Apple's Font Card.app can verify all fonts
No luck. Currently I can't open any MS word doc without the spinning pizza of death.
If you are lucky enough that these symptoms only happen with a specific Word .doc file, I would see if the PC-originator could re-save the file as .RTF and resend. If you can then open it OK, you could revert back to .doc (or .docx) format. RTF format is Microsoft's interchange format. If there are anomalies in the .doc file, saving as .RTF can sometimes clean them up. Once done, you can revert back to native MS Word format.

Why do files that I have organized into folders not stay in their folders after closing and reopening iTunes? And Why does the renaming get undone? I do this in iTunes Media/ Music.

I recently had to reinstall my software for a
dell computer a dell latitude d 830, then after installing all of my software and such including itunes the player did well even record to disks with no problems now that my system has done alot of updating of system files....now the itunes does not burn to my cd...error message 2131 this time
The 2131 usually indicates firmware needs to be updated on a drive.
Head to your drivers and downloads page for your latitude at Dell, and check for updates to your firmware for your optical drives. If you're behind and you update, does that clear up the 2131?

  • Soundbooth CS5 windows stays in active memory after closing

Does/has this happened to anyone else? Every single time I open up Soundbooth, use it, then close it, it actually stays active in my memory. I open up Windows Task Manager and there it is, typically using about 50% of the CPU resources until I kill it. This happens every single time.
In fact, if I've closed soundbooth, but DON'T open WTM and kill it, when I go to open up soundbooth again, it tells me I have another active session and asks if I'd like to close it.
I couldn't find anything about this in the forums or elsewhere; havent contacted support yet... its more annoying than anything else.
I'm running Windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit, and Adobe CS5, with 4gb of RAM.
    Anyone have thoughts on this?
It doesn't happen with other programs in the suite, though the same thing regularly happens with firefox...
    Thanks!

  • Firefox exe continues to run after closing all windows, and consumes massive amounts of cpu

after closing all firefox windows and trying to reopen i get the "firefox is still running but unresponsive" message, and have to go into task manager, processes and end the firefox exe, which is consuming between 96 and 100 cpu.

Norton IPS is apparently a known issue being mentioned in the KB articles:
    *[[firefox will not start]]
    * [[firefox crashes when you open it]]
    * I also found an earlier post on the Norton site http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-IPS-1-0-Addon-for-FireFox/m-p/25425#M8494 but I am not sure this is still considered a problem.
What exactly is this IPS extension. I am currently using XPs with Norton's NIS (version 18.6 - it is a paid for subscription). I do have Intrusion Prevention active in NIS but I see no specific extension or program IPS. Is this some optional additional software?
I did find an explanation but from 2009
    * http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Protection-Blog/Intrusion-Prevention-System-IPS-Your-first-line-of-defense/ba-p/124400
I am NOT using the Norton Toolbar etc. is it these components that are causing the problem i.e safe search etc.
I am not having problems with firefox hanging or continuing, despite using NIS.
There is a bug on this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=548945 but that does not seem to have got very far in confirming or resolving the issue. I imagine Norton have a very large userbase and it seems unlikely that the basic NIS is itself incompatible with Firefox.

  • Firefox apears in firewall even after closing all processes and continues to download file

firefox continues to download files even after closing all the processes, this behavior was noticed by looking at the my firewall activity log. I am using get them all download manger (firefox extension) to download files in firefox. When first time firefox is started after starting computer it doesnt have any problem, but once I open the download manager and start downloading files it never stops.
I am using : down them all version 2.05 beta on FF 3.6.12
    1. start computer
    2. open firefox
    3. check firewall status (bitdefender firewall running at report level) - no activity noticed
    3. add url to download file in download them all manager
    4. start download - bitdefinder shows firefox accessing internet
    5. pause download
    6. check firewall status - bitdefinder doesn't show firefox accessing internet in process listing but it does show network activity is going on at its peak.
    7. close all firefox windows and remove firefox.exe from task manager
    8. check bit defiender firewall status it continues to run at peak eating up all the network bandwidth
    9. remove rule of firefox from firewall so as it may prompt when firefox try to connect to internet (bit definder firewall is running in report mode for approval for each connection)
    10. as soon as rule removed, bit definder pops up window sayaing firefox is trying to access remote server (same from where the download was earlier started)
    11. Allow the firefox to access it and again it will start downloading in background and bitdefinder shows up internet activity at its peak.

naah, looks like its problem of firefox, i removed the plugin and tried downloading using the normal download winodw of firefox but same problem, this time it starts picking up item from the download window and continues to download

  • Executable VI remains in memory after closing the program

    Using LabVIEW 8.5.1
I've had two problems like this now.  One in a vista machine and the other in a windows 2000 machine.  The program is the same with minor changes between the machines.  At first I thought the problem was in the installer and I had to change the target OS to Vista only, but now I'm not sure that is the issue as it is happening in a win2K machine as well.
The program runs fine but when we stop the execution and then close the program by hitting the X on the upper right corner of the window it closes the window but the instance remains loaded in memory and I have to go to the task manager to end the task.
Any leads on the fixt to this would be helpful.
    Thanks,

I will check for code left running as this may be the most likely cause.
    As to what Pnt wrote:
"Although i don't agree with your programming style. The program should not be terminated at that point. It should pass to an idle state, waiting either for a button "Run" to be pressed, or the "X"."
I am giving you a glimpse of what the code does.  I'm not saying that I'm an expert programer as it is not my full time responsibility.  However, I am asking for help on figuring out what is going on with my code and I understand that it will be hard to pin point the problem without posting the entire program for members to disect.  Having said that, it would also be difficult to get but a glimpse on my programming style without me posting what I would consider a finished program.  For example, (here is another glimpse at my style) the program does go into an idle state waiting for the user to run another recipe or to terminate the program.  If the user decides to run a recipe but needs to abort the recipe, there is an option to do that and the program goes back to idle.  Further more the program can only be stopped while it is idle, a recipe has to be aborted prior to stopping the program (this is required to avoid leaving the furnace in an unsafe state) unless the user forces the program to quit by way of the "end task" which thanks to the note posted in a previous reply I know how to hadle now...
Sorry for the deviation from the actual topic, I could go on and on about what the program is supposed to do and how I'm meeting the end user requirements but I don't see the value of that at the momment.

  • I want Safari in Mountain Lion to stay in fullscreen mode after closing.

    Hello!
I have a feature on my Mac Mini and Macbook Pro (OS X Lion), which makes Safari stay in fullscreen after I have closed it down (Cmd + Q) and then start the program again. By doing so I do not need to click on the full screen icon(upper right corner) every time I start Safari again.
But on my Macbook Pro Retina (Mountain Lion), this function is gone. Before I made a temporary solution, which was that I locked the file (think it's a cache file) that allows Safari to go back to "No fullscreen" mode, and it worked. But the bad part about it is that I can not change the settings after that.
Does anyone know any solution to this? Or is there something wrong with my Safari?
    /Niklas

Thank you! That solved my problem, strange that Apple support couldn't help me in this
But why are for example Spotify working with always start with fullscreen even if the "close windows..." is checked?

  • I get the "firefox has stopped working" message after closing browser

    Hello.
My problem is that when I close the FireFox browser I get the "FireFox has stopped working" message. It's pretty annoying. I've read some other posts here that described a similar problem and have tried some of the suggestions in them including:
A clean install, a browser reset, running in safe mode, unchecking hardware acceleration, disabling extentions and plugins one at a time, uninstalling my antivirus (avast), rolling back to version 23.01 and checking run in compatibility mode that someone claimed helped them. None of this was effective.
It seems like after a computer restart the browser will be ok for 2-4 closings and then it will start with the message on every closing. Also, after I uninstalled avast it was good for 6 closings. Rolling back also gave me about 6 message free closings. But then the messages start and doesn't stop.
Is there anything else I can try? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

One thing is for sure, and that is if the only page i visit is the Google homepage (not logged in) or this site (mozilla forum), the problem does not occur, ever. I can't make it happen.
If i visit yahoo.com (not logged in) (or ighome.com, logged in), as examples, it happens every time.

  • XML-tree in memory after closing XmlResults

    Hi,
is there a way to have a parsed xml-tree in memory which represents XmlValue objects after I close corresponding XmlResults. I want to have smth like nu.xom.Document (or any analogues).
The closest solution I've found so far is getting node handle, and then reconstruct XmlResults out of it by calling XmlContainer.getNode(java.lang.String). But it's not exactly what I want to have. I might not have an access to the container object, or it might be closed already. The another poor-man solution is to get a string by XmlValue.asString() and feed it into e.g. XOM's Builder.build(). But it's tremendously inefficient.
Does anybody have smth better in his mind?
P.S. I still want to retrieve documents lazily, but in case of a necessity get an XML-tree into memory.
    Thanks,
    Vyacheslav

Thanks, George! I'm eager to have the new release :-) When is it approximately going to appear?
Maybe XmlDocument.fetchAllData() can serve as a temporary solution for the current release?
P.S. I was thinking about that integration with XOM (or something like this would be great).

  • Both Firefox & Thunderbird won't reopen after closing. require reboot

When I close Firefox or Thunderbird, they do not reopen later. Dialog box says they are still running, but process won't close in task manager. System requires reboot to get back in

Maybe your security (Anti-virus) software is checking files while Firefox is starting and takes so much time that Firefox can't access them and decides to skip loading those locked files. If that happens with sqlite database files like places.sqlite then bookmarks won't work properly. A second start works because the AV software had already checked the file. So you need to check the rules for Firefox in your security software.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Firefox hang in task list after closing successfully

    OS: windows 7 32 and 64-bit
Symptom: firefox can be open can close "properly" without error message. But when you look in the task list, firefox is still there. You still can open firefox without problem. It will add another process if you close it. So more and more processes in the task list if you repeating open and close after surfing some web sites. You cannot kill the task, even you are administrator. The only way to get rid of it is to re-start the PC.
It happens in 3 of my PCs.

Most often hanging at exit is caused by Extensions, maybe plugins. Try Firefox Safe Mode; don't check any items, just click "Continue to Safe Mode". http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Yes. FATFS.NLM tries to mount all FAT partitions it finds, not just the
boot partition. So any problem FAT partition may cause trouble.
    >I tried the "FORMAT D: /s /x" command but it display the "Bad track in

This sounds like your disk is physically broken. As a short term solution,
you can probably delete the DOS partition on D: but not create it again.
That way, FATFS.NLM will not try to fix the broken part of your disk. Of
course, you should as soon as possible replace your disk.
For this, you should first create and copy your DOS partition manually on
the new disk and then start your server and use NSSMU.NLM to manage the
    mirroring of the NetWare partition(s).

Is there any issue with JavaFX? or I have to do something else? It's likely an issue with your application code (though it could be a bug in the JavaFX platform too).
Either way debugging most memory issues in JavaFX (except for ones the graphics card texture related) is the same as debugging them in Java - so just use standard Java profiling tools to try to track down any memory leaks you have.
Such work is as much an art as a science and takes some experience to get right, so grab your detective cap, download and use the tools linked and try and track it down:
