Firefox stopped opening tabs from previous session, like it used to. What's going on in V26?

One day it worked, the next day it didn't. I've done the TOOLS, Options, etc, but it changes back to Hm pg when it starts up.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Browsing History
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
You can reset <b>browser.sessionstore.*</b> prefs that are user set (bold) to the default value via the right-click context menu on the <b>about:config</b> page to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

  • Can't open tabs from previous session (after Firefox regularly closed)?!

Regularly closed firefox 36.0.4. and shot down computer (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit).
On next start, Firefox doesn't open tabs from previous session (altought it is configured to do this) !?!?!?
    I lost about 30 tabs!!
    Very, very frustrating!!!
Think to finish using Firefox forever!!!!!

Don't exit Firefox! Or if you already did, don't start it back up again!
''If Firefox is running:'' Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listed various files and folders. For best results, change the view to "Details".
(''If Firefox not running, get to this folder by pasting the following in the Run box on the start menu and pressing Enter:'' %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles ''and then double-click into the most recently updated semi-randomly-named folder you find there.'')
In the window that launches, scroll down and double-click into the '''sessionstore-backups''' folder. Save all files here to a safe location, such as your Documents folder, so Firefox doesn't overwrite them. We may be able to use them to recover your lost tabs.
Also, if you return to the main level of the profile folder, you may find some sessionstore files. Copy those to the safe location as well.
Could you report back on what you found?
Note: If Windows hides the .js file extension from you, you can change a setting so that you can see all file extensions (this helps when renaming files). This support article has the steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219 or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
The kinds of files you may find among your sessionstore-backup files are:
    * recovery.js: the windows and tabs in your currently live Firefox session (or, if Firefox is closed, your last session)
    * recovery.bak: a backup copy of recovery.js
    * previous.js: the windows and tabs in your last Firefox session
    * upgrade.js-''build_id'': the windows and tabs in the Firefox session that was live at the time of your last update

  • My tabs will not restore after starting Firefox -- even with the option to restore my tabs and windows is checked in the "options" window. I'm losing tabs from previous sessions that I need to keep open every time I need to restart. Thanks for any advice!

Is there something else I need to tweak to get rid of this annoyance instead of simply clicking the check box? I'm losing tabs from previous sessions that I need to keep open every time I need to restart. Thanks for any advice!

Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the <i>Browsing History</i> when you close Firefox.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Firefox does not reopen tabs from previous session

    Hi,
When I start firefox it does not reopen the tabs I had open from the previous time Firefox was open, despite following suggestions in other support articles mentioning a similar problem.
I have seen these other similar problems and solutions in the support forums but none of them describe exactly my problem and none of their solutions fix my problem:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/800462#answer-154670
    http://support.mozilla.com/bn-BD/questions/796107#answer-151748
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/786128#answer-139770
As suggested in the above articles I have gone to about:config and ensured that all of
    browser.tabs.warnOnClose
    browser.warnOnQuit
    browser.warnOnRestart
    browser.showQuitWarning
    are set to true.
With all the above set to true I have also tried in
Options -> General -> Startup -> When Firefox Starts
    varying the setting between
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"
    and
    "Show my homepage"
When I have this set to "Show my homepage" Firefox does ask me when I'm closing it down if I would like to save my tabs for next time. I select Save and Quit, yet when I reopen Firefox it opens only a single tab, my homepage.
When I have it set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" Firefox does NOT ask me when I'm closing it down if I would like to save my tabs for next time. When I reopen Firefox it opens only a single tab, my homepage.

I ddin't have this problem ubtil today! If I closed Firefox with open tabs, then when I reopened Firefox, the tabs were there. It was like that first thing this morning but now, at 10:37, it warns me when I try to close it with multiple tabs open and when I reopen Firefox it reopens without the previous tabs! I have opted for "show my windows and tabs from previous session". Restore previous session is inoperative. Presumably, there's been another update which has caused this, as with the RSS feeds disappearing.

  • Even though I have FF set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" every time I open FF it just opens the home page. Why won't it open my previous session like it use to, even if I have that selected as the default state?

Nothing more to provide. Simple problem not opening previous session tabs when browser is opened after being closed. Was working fine until the upgrade to 7.0.1.

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

  • Safari keeps opening tabs from last session and Bookmarks and favorites. help?

I recently reset my macbook due to Adware on it. Everything was working fine until yesterday.
I would open safari up and all the tabs from the previous session were open, not only that even the tabs from the session before the previous were open as well. sometimes the pages won't even load??? Ive looked through some of the tabs and a lot of them are my favorites and bookmarks. Im a college student and I depend on my computer a lot please help me. Im really frustrated I can't use the internet. HELP?

What are your settings here?  If you have them set to Open with Favorites instead of Empty Page, that means Safari is loading all of your Favorites every time you open a new window or a new tab.
On the first option, is it set to open with "A new window" or "All windows from last session"?  That would explain one issue.

  • How can I stop Firefox 22 restoring my tabs from previous session instead of my home page?

I updated to Firefox 22 today and since then Firefox opens in the tabs from the previous session instead of my home page. This occurs no matter how I close Firefox. I am aware that this has happened in previous versions of Firefox(e.g. Firefox 20) and that a solution would be found in a future version. The solution has obviously not been found.
I have applied the suggested workaround, changing the preference for browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to false, with absolutely no effect. This workaround did work in versions 20 and 21.
    Can anyone help?

nope just delete the file the actual prefs are in prefs.js, user.js is used for something else
    Therefore: delete user.js

  • Every time I open up Firefox, it opens up my previous session, how do I stop this?

Just recently, every time we open up a new Firefox window, the previous session will show up. I do not want the old session to appear. How can I stop this? I have checked my options and it is set to my homepage but still the previous session always appears.

You probably already have checked the Options dialog to make sure Firefox is still set to start up with your home page. In case you haven't, this article has the steps:
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
Sometimes and add-on or external program will create a user.js file in your Firefox settings (profile) folder, and Firefox will use this file to override your previous session settings. To track down and remove a user.js file, please see the steps in this article: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
Note: By default, Windows 7 hides the .js file extension. To unhide it, so you can work with file names as accurately as possible, please see this Microsoft support article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
    Any luck?

  • Help! After upgrading to Firefox 8, will not save my tabs from previous session, or any Tools - Options! I have read everything I can find about it in Help.

It opens the same 3 stupid windows every time: the Firefox Google page, the upgraded Welcome page, and Amazon wish list upgrade page. This while my home page is set to msn.com or blank! I tried every method mentioned in Help that I could find, including the corrupt dll file and deleting Firefox and reinstalling it. Still, same problem. I have checked and rechecked all my browsing, history and cookie settings, etc. but cannot find any solution. I am not in private browsing, and I accept all cookies. It also does not save my Tools-Options-Tabs-When I open a new tab, switch to it immediately. This is really disappointing. Can someone please help??

Under Options->General->Startup->When Firefox starts->Change this from "Show my home page" to "show my windows and tabs from last time". It works for me, hope this will help you as well.

  • Firefox not loading tabs from last session

A few days ago I set up my laptop from scratch after a long time of not using it. In the process, I set up Firefox Sync to link it to my desktop's browser. This is the only thing I have changed recently. However, after rebooting my laptop, I noticed that whenever I closed the browser and reopened it, it would not restore my previous tabs. Of course the options are set to restore my tabs from last time. Even the manual options to restore my previous session from the history menu are greyed out. And perhaps more bizarre of all, when I click the 'x' button to close the browser, I have to click it twice to close it - clicking it once does nothing. Firefox is the only application experiencing this odd issue.
I thought it was just my laptop and decided it was too much of a headache to worry about for now, since I rarely use that. I've been going about my business as usual on my desktop for the past few days with no issue...until I booted up my computer this morning and found the same situation. None of my tabs (and I had numerous tabs across multiple tab groups that I've been using with no problems for months!!), when I close and reopen the browser it still doesn't remember what was open when I closed it, and once again I have to click the close button twice for it to take. The 'restore session' options in the history menu are once again greyed out.
Everything else appears fine - all my add-ons are still there, and it's still recording my history when I open new pages and close the browser. It's just not restoring the tabs. This is extremely frustrating to me as someone who ALWAYS has several tabs open at any given time. At least on my desktop, Firefox says it's up to date, so that shouldn't be an issue (I thought maybe a browser update could fix it). Is there anything I can do to fix this, preferably recovering my previous sessions in the process? I lost quite a bit and I'm not too happy about that...but even if recovery is impossible, can I at least fix it so it retains my session history going forward? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried all the suggestions so far in this thread and nothing has worked. Firefox has since released version 27.0 and I notice that in this version the session and tabs are restored providing the default settings are used in the options dialogue, (Privacy, history, remember history). Use any other custom setting and the session and tabs are lost on re starting the browser. In other words, some of the options within the history dialogue box are not working.
Firefox is not warning me when I attempt to close multiple tabs, even though the option is ticked.
The search bar on the Firefox home page is not working. Type in search terms, hit enter, and it does nothing.
Opening a new window in Firefox restores the tabs in the new window, but has no effect on the search bar, which still does not function.

  • Open tabs from last session lost - intermittently

Don't know whether it's a bug or me but tabs left open from last session are lost - intermittently - when I re enter Firefox mobile on my Samsung Galaxy s3.
I'll often leave 5 or so showing on the tab counter in the top right hand corner of the browser. Sometimes they will be there next session, but mostly they aren't!
    Any suggestions?

    HI alt-images,
Thank you for your question. When they do not show up, are you using a guest session or have you whipped the cache of the application from the mobile device's OS settings menu?
Also please check these settings on Firefox for Android: Settings > Customize >Tabs
Is "Always Restore" selected, or "Don't restore after quitting Firefox"
Please post back with the results and we can continue to troubleshoot the issue, thank you!

  • Firefox stopped opening tabs on mousewheel click

Browser was working perfectly then in the middle of browsing session it would not react to mousewheel clicks that had been able to open tabs previously. Does not seem to be a problem with the mouse because I can still use it to do the same thing in IExplorer and chrome, in FF it goes to the fast scroll mode.
