Firefox stopped working properly, it says it cannot initialize the applications security component...

Firefox starts with this: Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
it then opens and will not let me click anything, just opens the homepage and stops, tried reinstalling and it still doesn't work.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • Everytime I use firefox to connect to the internet I get an alert saying that firefox could not initialize the applications security component. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

When I use firefox to get on to the web I get the following message everytime: "Alert: Could not initialize the applications security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your applications pforfile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security feactures." Once I click the "OK button" at the bottom of the alert box firefox starts but does not act right. For instance it will not let me look for software updates. When I click on "Check for Updates" from the "Help" drop down menu I get a message stating: "There were problems checking for, downloading, or installing this update. Firefox could not be updated because: Update XML file malformed (200). You can update firefox manually by visiting this link and downloading the latest version."

  • On startup I get a warning "Could not initialize the application' security component...", click OK Firefox starts but I cannot navigate to any URL but home.

Click the Firefox 4 icon. A window opens with the warning:
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features"
(There are no read/write restrictions on my Applications folder and plenty of room on the hard drive.)
Click OK and Firefox opens at the home page, but I cannot navigate to any other URL or link. I had the same behavior when I tried FireFox 3)

First, use a specific [[Managing profiles|profile]] for Firefox 4.0 Beta and keep your current one for Firefox 3.6 to prevent interferences between both versions.
Then, see [[Could not initialize the browser security component]].

    Cannot open Firefox

This issue can be caused by a problem with the file c:\windows\system32\dwmapi.dll
The file dwmapi.dll is a Vista file and should not be present in Windows XP.

  • When Firefox loads I get an error saying 'the applications security component could not initiallize'. I have a 64-bit PC based system.

When I load Firefox I get an error message that tells me that the application security component could nt be initiallized. The suggestion from the error meddage was to see if there is a read/write restriction for the application profile directory. I have looked and found no such restriction on that directory. Firefox will load and allow me to look on the web, but many of the functions do not work. I have a 64-bit system using Windows 7 (64-bit version).

Rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case there is a problem with the file.
You may have to rename cert8.db (cert8.db.old) as well.
    Firefox will create new files.
The file cert8.db stores user certificates and intermediate certificates send by websites, so if you have certificates that you want to keep then you may want to export them now and import them after having removed cert8.db.
See Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates: View Certificates
If that works then you can delete the renamed files or undo the changes if you want to revert the process.
Also make sure that you allow the loopback connection with the Software Security Device in the firewall.<br />

  • Firefox stops working properly after a period of time

btw, I can't type in this box. I'm typing this in another program and pasting it in.
Using Firefox 5. I just installed Lion yesterday for Mac, but this problem occurred even before I did so. After a period of time, FF stops working properly. I notice it when I try to open a new tab. It won't switch to the new tab and the screen turns blue. If I type in a web address, it looks like it tries to go there, but it doesn't. When I look at any other already open tab, it has the blue screen. I have to restart to get my proper web pages back.

Whenever I click on "More System Details" there are several things I hope I won't see. Your Conduit Engine is one of them. It is malware by any reasonable definition and a cause of major problems with Firefox.
Google for information and advice as to how to get rid of it. Someone may come along with more specific advice..
If things aren't perfect after that you could do some straightforward troubleshooting(Safe Mode, Problematic Extensions, Hardware Acceleration etc) - in default theme -

Actually...I post this in the wrong place..sorry
iMac, eMac. They sound similar in every language but English! I'll get the Hosts to move this to the eMac section so you don't have to repost.
The good news is we have two eMacs in the family: one the first generation; one the last.
When you get the messages, what ports are you using? It is fairly normal for a flash drive to fail when plugged into a port on the keyboard (low-powered port). If you used a port on the right side of the eMac case, then it should work.
Have you experienced any other odd symptoms with the computer? Unexpected freezes, video defects, or no video, etc? I ask because a fair number of 1.25Ghz eMacs had near-fatal logic board problems. As odd as the symptoms of the logic board problems seemed to be, it would no longer surprise me if it affected USB. If you are seeing other problems than this, I can post a list of serial numbers that Apple said contains the affected computers.

I see you are using a PPC Mac with OSX 10.5.8.
Either you can use the last release from Mozilla worked on PPC which is 3.6.*.
The current 3.6.22 is at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    Or use a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html
As of Firefox 4.0 and newer a '''Intel''' Mac and OSX 10.5+ is required.

  • I am suddenly getting an error messages that says "You cannot open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported on this architecture.

When I restarted my computer I suddenly cannot open Firefox

Firefox versions after 3.6 no longer run on the PPC processor. You can only update to the latest 3.6 release (3.6.23 at the moment)

  • I running OS-10.5.8 and when download Firefox and try to open get "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture. You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture."

    The above is my question

Sorry, Firefox 4+ versions don't support PPC architecture.
    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4 / 5 / 6, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ <br />
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/downloads/list
    Or use Firefox 3.6.20: <br />
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Probably you could start the oracle database with SQLPLUS, and it will output the errors in dialog.
    Eks:
    log on as sidadm:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    sql> startup
It will tell you if any table spaces are in recoverymode or offline.

  • Stocks App Stopped Working Properly

The Stocks App on my 3G iPhone has recently stopped working properly.
When I open it, the current share prices all still come up as expected, but the numbers at the right hand side in the green and red boxes where it tells you the + or - shift for the day no longer show. Now they are all blank.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you have any suggestions to fix it?

Have you tried a reset (hold the sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears while ignoring the slide to turn off)?
