Firefox stops download of pdf

Firefox or ? stops the download of the pdf article ~ 1/2 way through the download. The articles change all the time and I used to be able to read them (~month ago).
Adobe 9 is installed on my system and I don't recall anything that i've changed that would correlate with the time it stopped downloading.
Can anyone help me with this, TIA
update: I found an adobe 9 update that is now installed (said it was security type stuff) and attempted the download again. The first time it gave me a; cannot extract font PNNKNF + FranklinGothic Demi. I accepted and proceeded. It loaded only parts of the headers on each page. I then tried to download a second article (an abridged version of the same article) and it succeeded. I went back and tried the main article and it succeeded this time. I remember all this happening before.
Am I doing something wrong?

Looks like an issue with your connection. Could you please let me know the following:
1. The OS and the version of Adobe Reader on your system.
2. The browser being used.
Just to be sure whether or not its an issue with Reader, can you try and do the following:
1. Open the page: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-10.html
2. Right click on the hyperlink "10.0" under the "Vers." column in the "Windows update file information" table.
3. Click on "Save Link As" or likewise and provide a location to save the PDF.
Does this work?

  • Firefox has suddenly stopped downloading Word, PDF or any files from my e-mails-any solutions please! Eric.

I have had no problem downloading files from e-mails until today. Usually, a window opens giving me the choice of "opening" or "saving". This no longer happens and clicking "save" found under the attachment has no effect. I have done a system restore which removed a toolbar very recently added but no success with downloads. If I use Internet Explorer, they download; but I dislike using it. Help!! Eric.

Tried some of the suggestions posted without success. Have discovered that it's only yahoo mail that FF won't open.

  • Firefox stopped downloading from internet & so did Thunderbird. But MS Explorer still brings up the data. Firefox works offline. Reinstalling firefox made no difference. Help!

When I start Firefox, it fails to bring up the homepage (google.com) with the label "untitled" on the 1st tab. Clicking on any bookmarks leaves the page blank. Switching to "offline" will bring up old websites, but no "refresh". At the same time, Thunderbird stopped working with the message "Looking up pop.gmail.com" without contact.

  • Firefox stops downloading and corrupts the file after I exit the brower. It didn't do this before I updated it to 3.6

Back then, before I had updated to the newest version of Firefox, I could close all the browser windows and still have the downloads remain active. However, now that I have updated my Firefox to its most up-to-date version, whenever I close all the browsers, the download who stop. Even though the file is nowhere near completion, the program would think it's finished downloading and ends up corrupting it. Is there any way to revert back to the way it was when I first had Firefox? Thanks.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Firefox stops downloading during installation and fails to install or open when installed properly

I tried to open firefox but kept getting 'Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.' so I uninstalled and downloaded the install .exe from the site. I go to install and it all works upto a point. It downloads but stops at a certain point in the bar and does not move any further along. It then tells me that the download was cancelled when i have not clicked anything. I then cannot open the browser or install it. What can be done?

This would't work as Firefox wont start up to let me type this in. Sorry. Any other solutions would help though

  • Firefox stops downloading webpages

Firefox works fine for a few minutes and then just stops reloading och opening new tabs. My other browsers work just fine and have a good internet connection. When I then try to restart firefox it still shows that the process is open in the background and won't restart. So, I guess it is some sort of crash.

  • In Firefox, when downloading a PDF, Nero opens and crashes. Why and why Nero?

Some web pages have a link to a PDF document; when I try to open the link Nero attempts to open but crashes; I don't know why Nero is opening. Even on the "right-click to save" option it opens. Nero asks to be debugged and/or report the crash.

This article maybe help to you, change pdf file type to other application like adobe reader, See:

  • I opened an Adobe pdf document from a website and now the document is no longer available on that website. Is it possible to look at that document again? Does Firefox actually download the pdf, and if so where is it? Thanks much.

Just to clarify, the website removed the link to the pdf doc, which is why I can no longer retrieve it. I should have saved it, but I didn't think they would remove it.

This should get you to the temporary files [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/776263#answer-129514]
And if not you might be able to google the page and click cached. If you cant do that i would suggest going and contacting the site

  • How do I get Firefox from "saving" to Downloads EVERY PDF file I open ??

    Greetings,
New to Firefox. Running Mac Leopard and needed Firefox because a business website running a business replay podcast did not recognize Safari.
So far so good. I actually prefer Firefox to Safari now.
One little thing. Every time I browse the web and open a PDF file it "automatically" sends it to my download file and I therefore have the file "saved" . WELL, I don't necessarily want to save to my download file every PDF file that I open. I just want to open a PDF file, do a quick read and move on to more browsing. How do I stop Firefox from saving to my downloads every PDF file that I open? Is there some kind of setting I can adjust?
    Thanks.

    Lexonex wrote:
You da man...I've never done an "Ad-On". I downloaded the recommended "Ad-On" as you suggested. The program fixed my issue...NOW, I can simply open a PDF file without it automatically going to my downloads.
    THANKS
If you ever need to download a list of things, firefox can select a vertical column using the Cmd key, unlike Safari.
I have DownLoadThemAll installed and I can select a vertical group of files, right-click them and using DLTA, I can DL them to any location. With Safari, I would have to do this one-at-a-time.
Just another reason I like FF for many purposes.

  • Three questions: (1) hard to get firefox to close; (2) can't download linked PDFs from journal websites, as I can with safari; (3) how do I migrate my complete firefox setup from old mac computer to new mac.

I am running firefox on a 4-year-old macbook. When I want to close the firefox application, for example when I am shutting down the computer, it hangs, will not quit. Sometimes I get a prompt about continuing a script and after I click on that, then it closes. Often, however, I have to do a force quit ("firefox not responding").
I am going to be setting up soon on a new macbook.
My firefox has been elaborated with several add-ons, including read it later and a couple of feed add-ons. I have an elaborate bookmark and tab group setup. Will it be possible to migrate all of that to the new computer.
Will my having a fresh new computer resolve the problem with getting the application to close? Or should I be concerned about importing the problem along with the application?
The other question concerns downloading of PDF files that are linked at medical journal websites, where I have permission for download of articles. I can do this in safari. But the process is not working in firefox. The blank window comes up like I am going to get a download prompt, but then that does not happen.

    I did that :
    Open Terminal
    1 - wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/remi-release-8.rpm
    2 - sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-8.rpm
    3 - sudo mousepad /etc/yum.repos.d/remi.repo
Make sur that in remi section enabled value = 1 and in test section enabled value= 0
    4 - sudo rpm -e --nodeps firefox
5 - sudo yum install firefox
It was successful for me after many hours to look for the right answer

  • Firefox stops responding after file download

After I download a file, Firefox stops responding and I have to wait for around 10 seconds before I can use it again.
This also happens when I'm using "Download them all"

That can be a problem with your AV software. Firefox let your default anti-virus program scan the file after the download has finished.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files

  • Ever since the most recent firefox update, every time I try to download anything firefox stops responding and will not do anything until I restart it. Can I revert back to a previous version, or is there a fix for it?

Every time I try to download anything firefox stops responding and will not do anything until I restart it. Can I revert back to a previous version, or is there a fix for it? When I restart firefox, then the download continues and all is well until I try to download something new (which I do quite often).

Why didn't you remove all three prefs.js files?
You may have left one file prefs.js that is causing the problems.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

    Hi...
    Quit your browsers.
    Open the Finder.
From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Typs this exactly as you see it here:    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin  (or just PDF Browser plugin) to the Trash.
Relaunch either Firefox or Safarai and try downloading a PDF document.

Add-ons contain a range of compatible Firefox versions, and Firefox honors the listed range by disabling the add-on if you are trying to run it on an unlisted version.
I'm sure Yahoo! will update its toolbar eventually, but not every add-on maker supports beta versions of software.
