Firefox stops responding during Gmail and Google, why?

The last few weeks, Firefox 4.1.0, on my XP SP3 system, stops responding while I am sending Gmail, frequently, stopping the transmission. Today, for the first time, it stopped responding while I was searching on Google.
The LAST thing I want to do is go back to Microsoft's IE.

Well, clearing cookies and cache over and over does not work.
Also, Firefox stops working with many sites now and I am tired of closing it down every 3 minutes. So, my solution this morning was to import my bookmarks to Google Chrome and it worked. After using Firefox for many, many years, I will now be using Google Chrome.

  • Firefox stops responding during during transmission of Gmail stopping the transmission for a minute or more

At times, when I am transmitting a Gmail, the transmission stops for a minute or more and at the top of the screen in the blue bar a message appears "Mozilla Firefox not responding".

How can this dependency of clearing the queues be removed once and for all for good?

  • Firefox stops downloading during installation and fails to install or open when installed properly

I tried to open firefox but kept getting 'Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.' so I uninstalled and downloaded the install .exe from the site. I go to install and it all works upto a point. It downloads but stops at a certain point in the bar and does not move any further along. It then tells me that the download was cancelled when i have not clicked anything. I then cannot open the browser or install it. What can be done?

This would't work as Firefox wont start up to let me type this in. Sorry. Any other solutions would help though

  • Firefox stops responding immediately after startup. I've tried all the recommended troubleshooting methods and cannot figure out why.

I have tried all of the recommended troubleshooting methods but none of them seem to work. This issue began despite no change being made to Firefox, or my computer; it just spontaneously stopped responding after launch.
Not only does Firefox stop responding, but it also prevents any other programs from being launched, and make already launched programs extremely slow. Furthermore, once it stops responding, it becomes impossible to get rid of; the only way is to log off, or restart the computer entirely.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Everytime I try to copy and paste, Firefox stops responding. Why?

Ever since I updated to the latest version of Firefox, if I try to copy and paste anything, Firefox stops responding. If I try to paste in another program such as Skype or AIM, that program stops responding too. What can I do to stop this?

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

  • My firefox stops responding and fades for about a half min almost every hour, OR MORE often

My firefox stops responding and fades for about a half min almost every hour, OR MORE often.
I am typing a message or information, the screen fades to about half bright. the curser freezes in place and no key responds.
The information bar at the top of the page says "firefox not responding" in about 30 seconds it restores and continues as tho nothing happens.

I might have discovered the solution without starting over with all your places and bookmarks.
Right after i installed 7.0.1 over a week ago, every 10-30 min When i would be watching videos online, it would freeze for 20-30 seconds. Firefox would say ( Not responding) both firefox and the plugin container process would be very large memory files. I tried to go back to Firefox 5.0. No avail it would still freeze.I tried to disable the plugin container . no good. I tried to adjust memory or cache or plugin settings in “about:config”.Nothing fixed it!
I finally discovered why my Firefox 7.01 was periodic hanging fix. It is something to do with some of your personal files. download this this add on and install it
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
or you can Google "places maintenance Firefox"
After you install the add on, restart Firefox.go to "tools", then "add ons" and then click “extensions” tab ,then click' options" on the "places maintenance" entry. choose "ALL' or just "expire" and hit "execute", then wait until its done., restart Firefox. should be fine then and all my bookmarks, customizations ,settings, and history stays untouched!
After i did this my Firefox did not freeze once for over 3 days straight. Might not work for everyone. I already read that Mozilla is aware of the problem and are working on a fix it in the full version of 8( the 8 beta did not fix the problem for me) . But they said this is a good temporary fix at least,( might be permanent)
For me at least ,Firefox works fine in 7 now. perfect actually. And many people i saw on similar forums had similar problems.
    Enjoy. Hope this helped

  • Ever since the most recent firefox update, every time I try to download anything firefox stops responding and will not do anything until I restart it. Can I revert back to a previous version, or is there a fix for it?

Every time I try to download anything firefox stops responding and will not do anything until I restart it. Can I revert back to a previous version, or is there a fix for it? When I restart firefox, then the download continues and all is well until I try to download something new (which I do quite often).

You may well find this article of interest and help in sorting out your problems: [[Installing a previous version of Firefox]] The article does contain a link for previous versions, but also points out other troubleshooting advice that may be more appropriate in some instances.
Another useful article is [[Basic Troubleshooting]]
I hope you sort out your problems either by downgrading or finding the cause of the problem.

  • Firefox stops responding frequently; there is no specific pattern to these episodes which might identify the problem.

Firefox stops responding frequently (2 or 3 times daily). There are no observable patterns to these episodes which might identify a specific task that causes the crash. It has been increasing in frequency for about a month now.

    Can't say

I have the same problem. I have diabled all my add-on's with no effect.
I have found that it has nothing to do with mulitple tabs.
But have found that it mostly (maybe only) happens with pages that containes lots of links, banners and adverts.
Typhically news and other "free" pages which relies heavily on sponsorship and such.
Why, because the pages work fine for a few seconds while it still load all the crap.
Have tried the same pages with IE and they work fine.
Obviously IE has gained an advantage on Mozilla this time.
Hope Mozilla will come with a fix since I have enjoyed them for some years no.

  • Firefox stops responding while loading a specific website

Whenever I open firefox and immediately try to load the website http://www.espncricinfo.com/ , firefox stops responding. But if I try to load this site after browsing some other sites, the problem seems to resolve automatically. The website loads without any problem in Chrome or IE. I encountered this problem first with firefox 14 and with firefox 15, the problem persists.

  • Firefox stops responding almost everytime I use Facebook

When I scroll down on Facebook or try to go to a game, Firefox stops responding for 10 to 45 seconds and comes on again. When i start scrolling it stops responding again. this problem occurs quite regularly

  • Firefox stops responding after file download

After I download a file, Firefox stops responding and I have to wait for around 10 seconds before I can use it again.
This also happens when I'm using "Download them all"

That can be a problem with your AV software. Firefox let your default anti-virus program scan the file after the download has finished.

  • InDesign Stops Responding During Launch

I'm having a problem with InDesign CS2 (v 4.0.5) on a Mac running OSX 10.3.9. It's been working fine for months, but now when I start InDesign, it stops responding during the "Executing Startup Services" phase.
I've deleted all of the preference files for InDesign, as well as the .plist file. I even removed InDesign from the system and re-installed it, but I'm still having the same problem.
Note that all of the other CS2 applications work fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions for correcting this problem?
    Thanks

CS2 runs just fine here in XP mode. I suspect the problem is the activation, which can no longer be accomplished becasue the activation servers were shut down. For licensed users of CS2 programs Adobe has posted downloads of versions that do not require activation at Adobe - CS2 Downloads

  • When attempting to delete the complete "Browsing & Download History" Firefox stops responding.

Since I had not deleted my browsing history in a few months I attempted to do so today. Firefox stopped responding. After waiting around 10-15 minutes I ended the process and attempted to delete everything from "today" and it worked. I then, one by one, deleted everything for "all times" except "Browsing & Download History", and it all worked. Now all that is left is to delete this, but every time I try to delete it, and nothing else, Firefox stops responding.

How much history items do you have if the check that in the History Manager?
If there are too many then try to clear them month by month or in case you do not care to lose all history delete the places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder (Firefox will rebuild the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup).
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
