Firefox stops working and I have to close and restart the browser to get it to work again.

I am using a dell laptop with windows 8 I have a wireless connection. Firefox stops responding, I can be on say, facebook and if I try doing something it won't do it, I can't click on a new tab to open i can't click home. My wireless gives me no indication that I have lost a signal or that it is weak. The only way to get the browser to respond is to close it and reopen it.
It's not just on facebook it's on every site I go to that it does this so it's not a site problem. I get no error message unless I manage to open a tab and it says the connection has reset then tells me to check everything and I do and everything is fine.

If it works in Windows Safe mode then you likely have a problem with your security software that is blocking Firefox and possibly other browser.
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
You may need to ask advice at the support site of that software if you can't fix it via the setup of that software.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Safari 5.1 will not change my privacy settings without quitting and restarting the browser.

I have installed Safari 5.1. When I attempt to change the block cookies setting in the privacy preferences, the browser will not change the settings until I quit and restart the browser.

Quit Safari. Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left.
Open the Library folder then the Cookies folder.
Move the Cookies.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.

  • Firefox stops downloading and corrupts the file after I exit the brower. It didn't do this before I updated it to 3.6

Back then, before I had updated to the newest version of Firefox, I could close all the browser windows and still have the downloads remain active. However, now that I have updated my Firefox to its most up-to-date version, whenever I close all the browsers, the download who stop. Even though the file is nowhere near completion, the program would think it's finished downloading and ends up corrupting it. Is there any way to revert back to the way it was when I first had Firefox? Thanks.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Firefox will not open certain websites, unless I close and restart the browser. Anyone hear of this ?

Some webpages, for example newegg.com, will not open at all. But if I close ff and then restart ff - newegg.com will load up almost instantly. Yahoo's pages have problems as well - especially if there is a video with a news article. Many times - there simply wont even be a placeholder. I will read the article - and then realize there should be a video accompanying it - I'll have to view in IE - which I hate.

I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. Can you please tell me how that service will get along with LastPass which does basically the same thing as Synch-it is probably spelled wrong as it looks wrong to me but if I click back to where this issue began, I will lose all of this question so please respond for the upcoming service synch.

  • I have firefox on the server. When I click on it, I get a message saying that an upgrade canot be done as other Firefox may be running. There is no other Firefox running. And then the browser opens ups

It actually says that Firefox is already running but not responding and the other window needs to be closed. Cannot find any other window running.
    Only happens on the server.
    OK on the PC desktop

I have similar problem on Win XP if i have used Firefox 4 but have closed it, then try to open Firefox again; it will give me that error message.
Message says to reboot but that is not always possible if I am in the middle of another program.
I found that if you open the windows task manager (ctrl + alt+ del) >>processes tab
highlight the "image name" firefox.exe and click end process.
    Firefox will then restart normally.

  • Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. Please help!

Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

It's not a router problem as I explained in my post. If it was a router problem then I wouldn't have the problem everywhere I go. It is an issue with the software.
Then I guess the millions of people running 10.5.7 with no issues are just hallucinating that their machines are working fine?
I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

  • Firefox stopped working so i re installed and now i have even more problems

okay once again ff stopped working so i did what i was told to do the last time Etc download the newest version and save it and then go into program files and find the mozilla firefox file and delete it and then go back to the saved firefox download and continue the download. here is the prblem with that. after i click on the file to download it ask if i want to run this program and i say yes and then it goes to a menu that says its downloading the files and that firfox will start after but nothing happens. i mean i let the stupid thing run for ever and nothing happens. now i was stupid and i went into programs and uninstalled firefox so now i cannot even do anything. in my start mene wheni click on firefox it says not found because i deleted it. i am being forced to use internet explorer and i hate it. also i admit i am computer stupid so please be kind when u tell me what i have to do to fix this problem. i do not know why all of a sudden after years of using firefox i am starting to have problems with it. please someone help me get my firefox back. my operating system is windows vista

no luck i cannot get anything out of firefox. it just looks like it going to lunch but then even that stops after a few seconds. anything else i can do? should i try to go into programs and uninstall it and then reinstall it again?
another problem i just found (like i need anymore) a solution that someone gave me when i had problems lunching fireforx a while ago was to download the latest version of firefox and save it. then i had to go into my program files and find the file mozilla/firefox and delete it and then find the firefox i saved and finish the download which fixed whatever problem was causing the firefox to not lunch. now when i tried to do the same i cannot. the file that has mozilla firefox in it when i try to delete won't let me it says i have to have premission. so i go into the properties and see the permissions it list it as CREATOR OWNER but it only has permission to do certain thing in the folder like subfolers etc so therefore i cannot delete it. when i try to delete the creator owner or even change the premissions for it it won't let me. i do not even know where this creator owner came from. i am the only one that has use of my computer. like i said i am not very computer smart so any help u can give me please make sure they are detailed. i appreicate all u have done so far. i just want my firefox back.

Hello, I use MAC AIR OSX 10.6.8 and have Adobe CS2, that I was using 2 years ago on my older computer. I stopped using it because it would close down in the middle of work. Now I would like to reinstall it on the MacAir but I can not get it working. It tells Adobe doesnT support my System. But I can not update my old version or activate it. What can I do?

The mac you want to install photoshop cs2 on is running mac os x 10.6.8 Snow Leopard?
(photoshop cs2 won't run on intel macs with mac os x newer than snow leopard)
Did you ever have cs2 installed on this particular computer before?
If the problem is that you already installed cs2, but it won't activate, that's because adobe took the activation servers offline for some older adobe products such as cs2.
You'll need to use the non activation version of cs2 from here and the supplied serial number:
Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products

    Hello Stephen.
First of all, and although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment as been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com].
As for your issue, you may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Firefox stopped working and won't install after I uninstall and reinstall.

Firefox stopped working one day. It would not load anything. I followed the directions and completely uninstalled and then reinstalled Firefox. It goes through the process and then says Firefox will load momentarily. It never does. Also, what do you have against hiring people to answer questions in person?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Everytime something opens in a second window, Fiefox locks up and stops resonding, I then have to "close program" and start over.

When ever I click on something that opens in a second window, both windows stop responding, I then have to "close program" and restart Firefox. This happens multiple times daily.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holidng the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox shortcut. Or in the Help menu, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.
If not, see this: <br />

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You should still have your profile folder, so when you install 3. you will get your bookmarks and other user data back.
There is a third party version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

  • After about Thursday, Firefox stopped working completely. I really need to get it up again, I have all my bookmarks!

There seem to be new updates buzzing around but I just recently got all my bookmarks to sync on 2 computers and now all of the sudden Firefox does not work at all on either. It takes a few minutes just to boot a page and then there is a lag time when I type anything so I cant even see what I am typing both in search window, nav bar, and on sites. Some bits of the window come through in pieces and it seems like the whole application is dead. I need all my passwords back if I am going to have to switch to safari!!! Please get firefox to work again.

Honestly posts in these forums are unrealistically skewed since very few people come here when their devices are working o.k and post as much.
Considering there is a pool of tens of millions of iOS devices that updated to iOS 8 and only a very very small percentage are posting issues, like under 100,000 if we are to be honest, I think its fairly unlikely you ill run into any issues.
But of course no one can guarantee one way or the other.
Al anyone can offer is personal experience in this case.
I updated an iPhone 5, an iPad 2 , and an iPad Mini and have had no issues with any device.
Many of my friends updated there devices as well, and nobody has mentioned having any issues with them.

  • Firefox stops working if the Laptop goes to sleep or stand by.

Since the last 1 month have started to get a weird issue on Firefox. Have auto update turned on, so not sure which version the issue started occurring.
Every time the screen turns off, computer goes to stand by or sleep, Firefox stops working. The only option is to restart the computer.
The browser would continue to respond, but it would not connect to internet, basically it does not do anything. Try closing the browser and you would see it closes OK, but the process won't shut down.
Try Launching again, and it would say "FF is already running and option "Close Firefox"", but it won't be able to close firefox. Try killing the process and that won't work either.
Result is I have to restart the PC 4 to 5 times a day because FF just would not work and I do not feel comfortable using other browsers.
