Firefox suddenly crashing at specific websites (eg, media sites)

On May 23, 2012, Firefox suddenly began crashing whenever I would click on any link at various websites -- especially the Globe & Mail (www.theglobeandmail.com/), but also some Firefox Help pages, the Java.com download page, etc, etc. I've subsequently done all of the following but the problem persists:
# did a spyware scan using an up-to-date Spybot Search & Destroy <br/>-- it found no items at all.
# Updated and installed Firefox 12
# Opened FF12 in Safe Mode
# Manually disabled all Plug-ins
# Downloaded and installed the newest Java, and removed the previous version of Java from my system
# did an online virus scan with Bit Defender:
## at first, it said that my system has a Trojan "Heure something something. . . "
##. Bit Defender offered a trial version of its anti-virus software, but, my browser crashed right after this
## -- I had to re-run the online scan again, and - this time - it said that it found NO viruses or trojans on my system!

Those two crash report are from Firefox 10.0.2.
Did you install or start an old Firefox 10.0.2 version because you previously posted with Firefox 12?
You may need to ask for help on a malware oriented forum if you can't download or run malware scanners.

  • Firefox is not loading specific websites for me. Sites like Facebook, Ebay, Google, and Netflix refuse to open, or even acknowledge me pressing the Enter key

Firefox is not loading specific websites for me. Sites like Facebook, Ebay, Google, and Netflix refuse to open, or even acknowledge me pressing the Enter key when I type in the address or click a link to that site. Practically every other site works perfectly fine. I did not change any settings or download any new addons prior to this problem, it just started happening. I have done everything I can find in the forums; resetting firefox, clearing cache and cookies, making network settings use no proxy, reinstalling, and today I uninstalled Firefox, updated and scanned my computer with all 3 software I use (AVG, Malwarebytes, and Spybot), found no issues, restarted my computer, and reinstalled a freshly downloaded Firefox setup without importing any settings or doing anything other than a totally clean install, and still nothing. Chrome and IE still are able to access every site perfectly fine. I have no idea what the issue is or how to fix it, as I've tried everything I know and could research.

    Hi There,
Sorry to hear of your issue. I found a great article for you to read and explain how to fix your issue. I hope this hope :)

  • Ever since last Fri's update Firefox keeps crashing on most websites I visit. I've had no response to all the crash reports.

I'm operating a new laptop using Windows 7. Ever since the update last Fri, Firefox keeps crashing on most websites I visit. It's very frustrating. I've browsed to folder C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components but there is no file nsBrowserOpt.dll.

Mozilla do not respond to crash reports that have been submitted. they are used to help analyze the causes of the crashing in order to make Firefox more stable.
Can you post some of the recent crash report IDs as shown in the [[Firefox crashes]] article, that may help somebody identify the cause of your crashes.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

If you open a new tab in Firefox to the '''about:crashes''' page you may be able to click through to your crash data on the Mozilla's crash stats server. These page have a link you can post here for volunteers to take a look. Check the date/time on the crash, though, to make sure it is for the relevant time period.

  • Firefox 4 crashes when loading pdf and other sites unless I first open it in safe mode and then revert

So firefox 4 crashes when opening in-browser pdfs and a whole host of other sites, even with no addons running.
I've found a fix: start in safe mode, then close and open in normal mode. This always solves the problem.
But '''why?''' What is causing this incredibly annoying problem. I went from happily browsing at high speeds (firefox 3.6) to suddenly finding myself propping my head on my arm, looking at a jammed firefox, trying not to go crazy, for about 2 minutes until it unjams (for pdfs - for the other sites it doesnt unjam) - and the pdf page ends up just black. God forbid I press F5 again lest I want to relive the experience.
This only happens on my work laptop. It's a top of the line laptop. It connects via a remote VPN. I'm not sure if that's relevant but I'm trying to give as much info as possible.

    1. You have a pre-release Beta 1 version of what will become Firefox 4 in like 5 or 6 months. Unless you are intending to test it for flaws and report those flaws to help in the development process, don't use it.
    2. Did you create a new Profile for 4.0b1, and are you using that Profile with it? ''That isn't done automatically when you install 4.0b1, and those of us who have been doing the "testing" for many years consider a new Profile as the basis of doing out testing.''
IMO, Mozilla is making a huge mistake by directly offering these beta versions to the general public.
Also IMO. if you want to play with 4.0b1, use the Portable Firefox 4.0beta version to minimize any conflicts with a currently installed version of Firefox, and to eliminate the need for creating a new Profile for 4.0 Beta #:
Download Firefox Portable Test to your hard drive and double click the '''FirefoxPortableTest_4.0_Beta_#_English.paf.exe''' file. The entire installation (including a new Profile for "Portable") will be self-contained in the \Program Files\FirefoxPortableTest\ folder and won't interfere with an "official" version that you already have installed. Your Profile will be in the \Program Files\FirefoxPortableTest\Data\profile\ folder.
The "down side" is that Firefox Portable won't launch if any other version of Firefox is already running.

  • Firefox suddenly crashed and will not open

I am having this problem as well. I believe I have the latest version of FF. It was working fine all day then all of a sudden just crashed and will not open. I first kept getting a window stating"
"Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts"
I submitted the crash report all 3 times it crashed successfully. But now, Firefox will not open at all,not even in safe mode.
I have looked through any suggestions and nothing works. I can't even get the profile manager to open to test it.
I would like to roll back to a previous version, IF that will solve this problem, but it's my bookmarks that I want to save. I don't want to lose them. But how can I import them if I can't even get FF to start?
I did see a folder called bookmark backups or something, but for some reason it isn't showing all of them.
Also, I was in a live chat with someone trying to help but they just left :( I was able to see my crash report via the instructions on this site, but now what? What do I do with it?
    Please can someone help me?

  • Arrgh. Old reliable firefox suddenly crashes whenver I try to download a file, access a pdf. doc or other random situations...I have the latest version.

    Using Windows XP
Yahoo mail or G-mail. Trying to download a file from an e-mail I sent to myself from a smart phone, which had worked just fine a week ago, suddenly results in a crash of Firefox. I report said crash. Try to download pdf doc from banking website ...crash. And a few other times, I can't quite remember the exact details...crash.
    On Firefox...7.o1
    Love Firefox...hate this.

My firefox on an XP is behaving itself.
    Try using firefox's [[safe mode]]
    * do not make changes in the first window, just click on continue
    * use only the default themes
    * whilst in safe mode, disable all plugins
Firefox should then be working, and not crashing at this stage but it will restrict what you are able to do. If you get crashes:
    * see [[firefox crashes]]
**follow the tips, and if necessary because crashes continue try to submit crash reports, and copy and paste a few recent crash ID s into your next message.
If firefox works, then try gradually adding back extensions, then plugins. <br/>(If you have a lot break the list into sections compare 1/2+1/2 ; 3/4 +1/4 etc it is faster than one at a time)

Without any changes to my computer, as far as I can tell, I lost the ability to open Firefox without it crashing. I've tried rebooting, re-installing, Safe Mode, new profile...nothing seems to work.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

If you have submitted Breakpad crash reports then post the IDs of one or more Breakpad crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page. You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

  • Firefox only crashes on one website? How can I fix?

Hello, I have no problems playing videos on other sites such as Youtube, but there is one particular site, Democracynow.org, that crashes Firefox every time I try to play the embedded videos. • Firefox cannot load a specific website but other programs can

I have a rare problem with firefox (3.6.18 at the moment)
I have to work with a modified mantis bug tracker and the site wont load (the tab says "Loading..." and the bottom status bar says "waiting yourdomain.com...")
I can reproduce this and seems to be related to the cookies: I have a page with a big image still loading, I submit a form from this page and that is were the problem happens.
From here no page from this bug tracker will load.
This only happens to me with firefox and not with other browsers.
If I clear the cookies, the site will load again.
    Hope you can help me
    Thanks, Fernando.

You can try to load that page in Private Browsing mode.
*To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Select: [x] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
In PB mode Firefox doesn't use the disk cache and the cookies from normal mode.

  • Why did firefox suddenly start blocking access to long accessed sites

the other day firefox started blocking sites as risky, sites that I have accessed hundreds of times (Yahoo, bank, employer, etc) and until I confirm three times it won't let me on the site.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Sudden crash of firefox as I open it: how can I recover the websites' addresses in my bookmark? Is everything lost?

Firefox crashes when I open it (Mac system). How can I recover all websites's addresses in my bookmarks before trying to installing again firefox?
    == Crash ID(s) ==
    c427216d-8a2f-8b48-beca-50074acfbc6b
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; it-it) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16

Yes, all your personal information is stored in your profile folder.
Again, see [[Backing up your information]] to manually back up your profile folder. That article also has information on what information is stored where (e.g. Places.sqlite for bookmarks and history).
So back that up manually, uninstall Firefox, and remove the profile folder. Then you should be able to do a completely clean install and then restore your settings accordingly.

  • Firefox crashes on certain websites.

Recently, I had a malware/virus attack on my computer from XP Anti-Spyware. There were many pop-ups from XP Anti-Spyware. Then later I lost connectivity to the internet. I used Norton Security Scan to get rid of the malwares and viruses. After using the scan, my Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox Internet did not work. At first the pages wouldn't even load. Then we contacted a Norton Security, who tried to remotely go through my computer to try to fix the problem. The technician rebooted my computer, reseted my internet, and also tried to reinstall Mozilla (safe mode) and Internet Explore. Well we were able to get both internets up and running. Only problem is that Mozilla crashes will work for a minute and crash or when on a certain website it will crash suddenly. I'm able to get on Facebook without it crashing. But websites like Yahoo, or when I search on Google, the internet crashes. I was not able to get on my email through Mozilla, instead I had to go through Google Chrome. Can you please help me please. Also, I removed Norton Security System, to have more mobility online. Thanks.
