Firefox sync broken.

Hello!
For a couple of days (or even weeks) now, I'm unable to sync my bookmarks and tabs via Firefox Sync. I even updated all my machines to the latest firefox package.
about:sync-log gives errors like "Could not authenticate", "NS_ERROR_NET_RESET", "NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE" and others. See the full output..
Things I tried, but with no luck:
I deleted/reset my account several times.
I created a new account with a different e-mail-address.
I took a password with only alphanumeric characters.
It worked once even between my laptop and my mobile.
Firefox Status Page tells my everything is operating normally.
Any ideas on this?

From the error message it looks like the certificate is somehow bad. I would recommend blowing away your firefox directory and letting it get recreated. I can't remember if it's .mozilla or .firefox in your home directory and I'm not on a system where I can check at the moment.
It would also help to know if you're behind a proxy.

  • Firefox Sync is the most infuriating thing ever, how has it lasted this long like this?

    I'm sorry if this comes across as more of a rant than a query, but I am absolutely disgusted with how incredibly difficult it is to get Firefox Sync working properly (or perhaps how easy it is to break it).
    I opened a previous support thread @ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/983868 but I was unable to get any advice that seemed to change anything.
    I have tried 2-3 more times on the latest Firefox (27 I believe) with new profiles, clearing my sync data, and every possible combination inbetween, and I can never get my devices to sync reliably past, even the "First sync" progress bar fails while adding devices #2, 3, etc.
    I got so desperate that I decided to try Nightly's new Sync (Firefox 30), hoping that things would have improved without the need for a Sync key (since I was confusingly getting sync key errors, despite entering it manually). Low and behold it STILL does the same thing, except that now I'm provided with an even more transparent service. I am unable to view my data quota, and Firefox doesn't even ask me for my master password now when I hit sync. That, and it's STILL complaining about the lack of a recovery key, when there is no such thing as a recovery key anymore, what the heck?!
    In the course of a few hours I have created dozens of error logs, and this is all by trying to use just 1 Desktop installation and 1 mobile installation. I have probably approached burning over 20 hours trying to get Firefox Sync to work, and it's apparent that the feature is just flat out broken.
    Even with all of the errors, some things sync properly like Tabs and occasionally preferences, but other things like history, bookmarks, and add-ons never work after the initial sync (or even during the initial sync). It seems though that the further away I get from the initial sync point, the less reliably these features work.
    This may fall on deaf ears, but I thought I'd reach out for help one last time to see if anyone can help, or perhaps point me to a place where I can receive more technical support. If anyone is able to help, it would be greatly appreciated. My logs can be found here
    Firefox 27: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4KtJAZ-pKFqZkMyZ3R5MTVRWFE&usp=drive_web
    Firefox 30: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4KtJAZ-pKFqWXFtb3Y2ZWxiQ1U&usp=drive_web

    I'm not exactly sure if that's a statement or a question, but it doesn't really pertain to my predicament.
    I created an entirely new Sync account with brand new Nightly profiles, the only thing I brought over was my places.sqlite file, as I could not transport my history via any other means (passwords, bookmarks, add-ons, etc I all did via other methods).
    The initial sync usually works, but after that things just don't seem to work correctly.
    I also ran into another problem in that I cannot delete my sync data via
    * https://account.services.mozilla.com/
    I also tried deleting the account, which kind of seemed to work as I was no longer able to log in via the above website; however when I tried to create a new Sync account with the same e-mail address, it said an account already existed. I tried logging in to my deleted Sync account via Nightly, and it logged in as if it was never deleted.

  • Cannot configure firefox sync and do not have add a device option

    I am very frustrated. I have spent a lot of time over the past two days trying to figure out how to ocnfigure Firefox sync. I am specifically trying to sync my iphone to my account. I have downloaded two apps from the Apple App store, both of which are designed to allow me to do so. When I open both of these apps they provide me with a pass code that is broken up into three sections each containing 4 letter and or number combinations, just as I see in all the articles designed to assist me with this issue. However, I open my sync dashboard and do not see ANY tab that states "Add a Device" as the articles also say. So I click on the "I am not near my computer" tab in the apps (both appear to work identically) and I am asked to enter my account, password, and sync key info. I cannot find an article anywhere that tells me what my sync key is or how to recover it if I have forgotten it~!!!@!!!!!!!! Please freaking help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Apps in the Apple App Store are not from Mozilla and possibly no longer work with Firefox as Firefox has now moved from Sync to Firefox Accounts. Mozilla does not have any apps out there in the Apple app store however, 3rd parties may but they're not vetted by Mozilla.

  • I lost my sync key and I don't have it; how can I access those settings? I don't find any contact us link in firefox sync site.

    my netbook has broken in an accident and data on it couldn't be recovered. I have used firefox sync before this on my that netbook. Now I buy a new netbook but when I want to setup firefox sync I don't know sync key and consequently I can't access those data.
    I want to know how can I solve this problem.
    Regards,
    Moosavy

    I'm sorry but "you should have written it down" simply isn't a good solution. Having the keys at all is a bad idea in my opinion. The keys should be stored in your account and if you authenticate with a password, it should use that key. If you can't keep your password private or secure, that's your problem. The problem with the keys is, you can't delete your account and "start over" if you so wish. What happens if your machine locks up after you sign up and you have no time to write down your key?
    You can request a new password, but can't be reminded of your key? This is nonsense. I have had no such headaches with XMarks and I'm trying to find a reason to keep using firefox sync with such an obviously user-unfriendly approach. We're humans, not machines.

  • Has anyone succesfully used home hosted Firefox sync with self-signed certificate in Android? How?

    I have Firefox sync running on home server. All other devices (Windows, Mac, Linux, Meego) work fine, but Android (4.2 Asus tablet and Samsung phone) Firefox stops at ssl handshake (referring to Apache logs).

    You need to somehow get the certificate on your computer.  After that send it to your phone via bluetooth/cable to one of the Documents directories (phone or mem card). After that rename it with the file manager on the phone and open the now .der file. It'll ask you if you want to install the certificate.  Btw the link you provided does have a der suffix, but the linkis broken.

  • I Can't install Firefox Sync on Firefox 25.0.1 for Mac, which I need to use Firefox on iphone.

    When I tried to install Firefox sync it said it was not compatible with firefox 25.0.1.
    Mac 10.6.8 is the most my system can handle.
    I have an iphone 4 running iOS 7.0.3.
    I want to use firefox on my iphone and believe i need to install Firefox Sync to accomplish this. Is there anyway where i can run firefox on my iphone?
    Syncing between the Mac and the iphone would be good but is not essential.

    This is disappointing, but thank you very much for your time. This will save me many hours of frustration.

  • Trying to set up Firefox Sync and it says my email address is already in use, but won't let me sign in.

    I'm trying to Sync Firefox between my new Android phone with my Macbook Air. It tells me I need to create an account, but says my email address is already in use. So I try to put in the codes in the three boxes, and it leads me back to set up a new account. How can I reset this? How do I proceed?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Can't Login to Firefox Sync on my Computer but I can Login in Firefox Home on my iPhone

    I had Firefox 4 beta installed along side firefox 3.6 before firefox 4 was released. After firefox 4 was released, I uninstalled the beta (ensuring not to delete my prefrences when uninstalling).
    Then I started up firefox 3.6 and I noticed that all my settings had vanished (but the addons were still there) and I was logged out of firefox sync. So with the confidence in mind that I had all my settings backed up to the firefox sync server, I attempted loging into firefox sync.
    It accepted my User Name and Password entries but for some strange reason, it refused to accept my key entry; which was in the older versions called the secret phrase entry (so I still had my secret phrase as the key). Attempted loggin into the latest version of FirefoxSync home on my iPhone and it worked as expected, plus it showed the correct number of bookmarks and history infos.
    Why isn't firefox sync accepting my sync key, aka secret phrase? I 99% doubt this but could it be getting blocked by some entries in my "host" file as I recall adding tonnes of adblocking entries to it; preventing my computer from wasting bandwidth loading them.
    BTW I attempted loggin into this firefox sync site and it kept showing me that it couldn't log me in :( Or is the site not meant for viewing what's stored on the server?

    Bump!
    No answers out there for this?

  • Problem with firefox sync

    I have never used Firefox Sync so i gave it a try. Then found out it is indeed very useful until i got an error: Error While Syncing. I fixed by changing my password. But the error came back and i ignored.
    I searched and found out that one solution was to reset and do it again so i deleted my sync data and then deleted my account.
    Now i cant do nothing !!! I even created a new account but the button "I have an account" doesn't work.
    I can't see the code, the one to pair a device. I can create a new account but it won't log in.
    I tried to recover my Sync account with the Recover lost password but all i get is a message saying "We were unable to log you in"
    I'm thinking in reinstall firefox with my old profile data but one file might be corrupted and then i will be unable to fix the problem.
    What can i do ?
    Please help me!!! Anyone!

    I FIXED IT!!!
    After everything was lost, i managed to fix the problem by resetting Firefox.
    I reseted by clicking Help / Troubleshooting Information / Reset Firefox (Top right corner).
    Now, everything is fine! Redid my Sync account and re-synced Firefox.

  • Can't get firefox sync to work. I keep getting 'Error While Syncing' message

    I am on Mac OS X 10.6.4, Snow Leopard on a Mini Mac a year old.
    I got a message from X Marks telling me they were shutting down.
    As I use my bookmarks every day and have thousands of them all sorted into folders I definitely never want to lose them or lose access to them if my house burns down or my computer is stolen!
    I was using Firefox 3.6 and followed X Marks advise and downloaded Firefox Sync...but...won't work....kept giving me the 'Error While Syncing' message after trying to sync for a while. I looked at the blog and tried a few things like resetting password, restarting computer, checking my setting etc., but no deal. So, as the Firefox Sync download page told me that if I was using Firefox 4 beta the feature was built in and I didn't need the download, I then downloaded Firefox 4....which has removed my X Marks option, which was at least viable till after Xmas! and I still have the 'Error While Syncing' message beside the Sync button on my status bar....so now I am completely at a loss. The only thing I can do if I can't fix it up is go back to 3.6 and go on using X Marks while it is still available and pray that you get this sorted out before they dissappear.
    I also like to be able to get my updated bookmarks on the other browsers I use, like Chrome and IE, so I would really appreciate it if you would include this cross browser sync capability as soon as you can. I have pledged X Marks that I would even pay for their service to continue as it seems they are so ahead of anyone else in their service and it is a large pain in the you know where that they can't keep going.
    Thanks. and I hope you can help. From the blogs it seems that I am not the only one having this problem of getting the Firefox Sync working

    @globaltruth
    Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it. Unfortunately, the error message still sits on my statusbar, right after the Firefox Sync image.

  • The password save prompt box does not appear on logging in to certain password protected webpages; is there another way of adding their passwords to Firefox sync?

    Dear Firefox tech supporter,
    I am Currently running:
    Firefox v6.0.2;
    Windows 7 fully updated at 19 Sept 2011 15:45 GMT;
    Norton Internet Security 2011 (using Identity Safe) fully updated at same time as Windows 7;
    Extensions to Firefox-
    Norton Toolbar 2011.7.1.3;
    Symantec IPS 3.1;
    Add to Amazon Wish List Button 7.1;
    Minimap Addon 0.3.13
    Plugins
    The usual suspects from Microsoft, Adobe, Wacom, Apple and Google, all of which are checked and no updates currently found.
    With webpages such as <https://shop.avanquest.com/members/?company_rs=51>, PayPal and Windows Live e.g. after correct login details are entered into the online form and login is performed successfully. The "key" symbol does not appear to the left of the "awesome bar", neither does the password save pop up box and so the login details for the site cannot be saved in Firefox sync.
    This is not specific to https secure sites, as I have been able to save the passwords for several https secure sites and conversely, I have been unable to save the passwords for some http non secure URLs. I have ensured that, whilst trying to enter a page or site into Firefox sync, it has the only tab open.
    There does not seem to be a way of manually entering website details (URL, User Name, Password etc.) into Firefox Sync; how can I save the password details for such sites?
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Chris Morris

  • How many users are registered for using the firefox sync server?

    I'm working on a german wikipedia article about "Firefox Sync" and I need more information about the current usage and the historical development of this feature - number of registered users for the Sync Server at Mozilla - would be nice to have numbers for 2011, 2012, and current usage.
    If possible, it would be also useful to know how many german speaking users are using the sync service.
    Where are your Sync Servers located (US, Europe, Asia)?
    What kind of systems and platforms are supported?
    Is there a current documentation about the importance of the Firefox Sync Service, that I may reference?

    thanks for your fast reply,
    your URL to the page with the ideas of the new PiCL service shows in the remark about the usability of the "Firefox Sync" some hints about the usage of the current sync service "only 1% of our users have actually done so" - so I will use that as reference.
    But it would be nicer to have some public message - for example: a mozilla blog entry - from the mozilla services group about the number of registered Sync Server User - and also about performance and reliabilty.
    But if that is private information only, you can close this problem.
