Firefox Sync error

So, every time I try to Sync my main PC an error appears: "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."
It synced partially, since my bookmarks and passwords appear on my other device.
Error Log: http://pastebin.mozilla.org/8118766
I assume this is the problem?
1419419748268 Sync.Declined DEBUG Handling remote declined: ["adblockplus"]
1419419748268 Sync.Declined DEBUG Handling local declined: ["adblockplus"]
1419419748268 Sync.Declined DEBUG Declined changed? false
Why doesn't adblock sync properly?

hello, thanks for sharing your error logs - it looks like a bad entry in your history items is causing the error:
1419419747778 Sync.Status DEBUG Status for engine history: error.engine.reason.unknown_fail
1419419747778 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.service: success.status_ok => error.sync.failed_partial
1419419747778 Sync.ErrorHandler DEBUG history failed: database disk image is malformed No traceback available
if you don't depend on your history being synced, i'd recommend disabling it in the firefox menu > options > sync...

  • Firefox sync error server incorrectly configured

The very first time I loaded firefox on my laptop (which i bought only a couple months ago) the syncing worked just fine.
After i dont know how much time i started getting errors that the syncing was failing. I tried to reconfigure the syncing properties but started getting the error server incorrectly configured. I scoured the net looking for answers following all the troubleshooting that I could find.
One thing I notice is that when i choose I have an account it is supposed to load a key that i can use on my already synced devices but that never actually populates and it immediately kicks me to the user name password and sync key screen. This issue remained throughout the duration of all the troubleshooting below. Additionally I cant even create a new sync account on that pc as it fails everytime.
I have done the following in a effort to resolve this issue.
I created a new sync account using one of my other pcs
I added a pc that was never on the sync account to it to verify it does it fact sync
i uninstalled firefox 4 separate times deleting all the folders and even as far as the registry keys
i tried using a lan connection vs wifi
    i updated windows
    My computer;
I have a lenovo ideapad with windows 7 and 8 gigs of ram with a amd processor

please help I have spent countless hours trying to fix this.

One addition note: in my own situation, I checked my about:config and saw my sync server's URL (https://scl2-sync42.services.mozilla.com/ ). I entered it into my address bar and got the following message:
"server issue: database is not healthy"
(quotes were included) I've seen no mention of such a phrase in a Google search, so I assume that no one else has reported any such thing.
Going into my about:config, I deleted the URL and it synced just fine!

  • Firefox sync error, changed password and on other devices the new password keeps giving me an error.

Okay so I have several Linux devices in sync and one of them is synced also with a Microsoft 8 and the latest updates of Firefox. All of them are updated to the lastest. I had to change my password becaue for some odd reason the pass I wrote down was not being registered in my computer. Now because of that I had to change it for all of the other devices and none of them are detecting the new firefox password change. It just seems like a round circle where I change pass, and I have to continue to do that but each device wants to do the same thing.
What could be done is there some bug with respect to this!? Thanks.

Please let me confirm what you are saying: when you change the password on one device, all of the other devices connected to the account are not disconnected and continue syncing?
[Bug 987719 - If user changes FXA password as Syncing client, don't kick them out of Sync]- this is outdated I think*
Do the other devices ever prompt you for a new password? And if you check about:sync-logs are there any errors after the time you changed the password on one of the devices?
Edit* ignore this post, though these are the steps we would take if there is a bug for future reference.

  • Firefox sync error when Ubuntu Machine added for sync

I was receiving error Sync encountered and error: Unknown error. I spoke to support and was told to remove account and enable a new account. I followed the directions, but as soon as I added the Ubuntu PC with Firefox 4 B9 I started receiving the error again. I am running out of email addresses for new account. Can I use one prior used instead of using new email for account name? Also how do I add the Ubuntu PC without getting errors?

hello, this appears to be a current server error - there appears nothing wrong on your side. it's probably best to just sit this issue out..

  • Can't get firefox sync to work. I keep getting 'Error While Syncing' message

I am on Mac OS X 10.6.4, Snow Leopard on a Mini Mac a year old.
I got a message from X Marks telling me they were shutting down.
As I use my bookmarks every day and have thousands of them all sorted into folders I definitely never want to lose them or lose access to them if my house burns down or my computer is stolen!
I was using Firefox 3.6 and followed X Marks advise and downloaded Firefox Sync...but...won't work....kept giving me the 'Error While Syncing' message after trying to sync for a while. I looked at the blog and tried a few things like resetting password, restarting computer, checking my setting etc., but no deal. So, as the Firefox Sync download page told me that if I was using Firefox 4 beta the feature was built in and I didn't need the download, I then downloaded Firefox 4....which has removed my X Marks option, which was at least viable till after Xmas! and I still have the 'Error While Syncing' message beside the Sync button on my status bar....so now I am completely at a loss. The only thing I can do if I can't fix it up is go back to 3.6 and go on using X Marks while it is still available and pray that you get this sorted out before they dissappear.
I also like to be able to get my updated bookmarks on the other browsers I use, like Chrome and IE, so I would really appreciate it if you would include this cross browser sync capability as soon as you can. I have pledged X Marks that I would even pay for their service to continue as it seems they are so ahead of anyone else in their service and it is a large pain in the you know where that they can't keep going.
Thanks. and I hope you can help. From the blogs it seems that I am not the only one having this problem of getting the Firefox Sync working

    @globaltruth
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it. Unfortunately, the error message still sits on my statusbar, right after the Firefox Sync image.

  • Unknown error when trying to set up Firefox Sync

I try to set up Firefox Sync but as I fill in my e-mail address on the first line i first get the message "invalide e-mail account" (or similar) but then when I continue to complete it with [email protected] it just says "unknown error". I have tried several different e-mail addresses on two different computers but the same annoying unknown error message keeps coming up.
What am I supposed to do about that?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

  • Unexpected error when trying to reset Firefox sync

    Hello,
I am trying to reset my password for Firefox sync with no success. When i enter my email address and hit "next" i get "Unexpected error". I don't want to create a new account with a different email address.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello jc_denton,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article for more information.
    To Reset Firefox:
    # Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: [[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Firefox sync: unknown error while syncing

Has anyone gotten firefox sync to work with firefox from [extra]? I can connect but I always get an unknown error when trying to actually sync. When running in a terminal no output is given.
    Any advice?

Hm that's weird, everything work fine here both on Arch and XP.
According to this site http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/942916-firefox-sync/ possibly is bug
Oh btw, take a look at your sync log, open new empty tab then

  • Firefox Sync Unknown Error?

Over the last few weeks of having to reinstall my OS, I've had major problems getting Firefox Sync to do its thing and synchronise a couple of years worth of data. After a few minutes, I am receiving the following error at the bottom of the page: "Sync encountered an error while synchronising: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." Which is not particularly helpful in solving the problem!
As there are no tools provided to edit data "in the cloud", there is also no way I can see to remedy this by deleting any corrupt entries. Which does not seem very promising option to me for backing up this data, some of which is very important!
Firstly, I was wondering if anyone else has been receiving this error? And secondly, I was wondering if there was any way of manually downloading the data outside of Firefox if there isn't a remedy? I would really not like to use the nuclear option and reset my account. If it is possible to get it back then I'll be able to make a safe backup and transfer my information to xmarks, which I have found is more reliable. I guess you could argue I should be making backups like these in the first place if this information is so important, but I trusted the convenience and reliability of Mozilla to handle my data, especially as before Weave came along I had never realised how valuable keeping my history between computers can be!
I am having this problem between Mac, Ubuntu and Windows versions of Firefox 4. Hope you can understand my frustrations.

    This worked for me:
    # In Firefox menu: go to bookmarks -> Organize bookmarks. Take there a bakup of your bookmarks. to stay on the safe side for your bookmarks.
    # Go to the sync tab in your firefox preferences (edit -> preferences)
Uncheck everything except passwords and close.
    # Do a sync by double clicking the sync in the status bar (bottom of firefox)
    # Go back to the sync tab and reenable one by one what you need, doing a sync in between.

  • Firefox Sync "encounters an unknown error" since upgrading to Firefox 4

I've already tried resetting Sync on both desktops, I even went through "adding a device" on each one to add them back but still I just get the "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."
I'm really disappointed that an advertised feature of Firefox 4 should be giving me this much trouble when I had none with earlier versions.
    Windows 7 x64 and Windows 7 x32, Firefox 4.

If you don't mind losing your synced data: Use "Deactivate This Device" option then "Setup Firefox Sync"->"Connect" -> "I don't have the device with me"-> Enter your Account and Password information and click on "I have lost my other device"->"Change Your Sync Key" pop-up windows should open, if not click on "I have lost my other device" again ->"Change Sync Key" Setup Complete window will appear, Finish, OK.
Change Sync Options when the option first appears or after setup is complete.
'''Warning''': Backup your saved bookmarks, passwords before trying this.

  • Firefox Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error

I am trying to connect to the site - https://login.salesforce.com/?ec=302&startURL=%2F5003000000EIhFk and i just cannot login. the site is accessible, but could not log in and I have this error in the status area on the bottom - Firefox Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error

I think I managed to fix this.
Go to [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ your sync account], log in, and click clear your sync data.
Then click the Sync now button on the error message.
The error went away for me.

  • Firefox Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error when ever I add my Ubuntu with Firefox 4 b10 Pre Minefield

Sync works great but as soon as I add my Ubuntu machine I get the Sync Error and the only way to get out of the problem is to close the account on the Ubuntu machine and set up the account again on the Macs. I have one iMac, one Macbook Pro and one iPhone that all work with Sync. Only the Ubuntu machine with Firefox 4 b10 Pre Minefield causes the problem. All other machines also have Firefox 4 B9.

LOL, it now lets me in.
I tried purging the data and I got "We had a problem purging the data from your account. Please try again later."
I think the server may just be hosed......

  • I set up the the sync add on and had no errors. When I sync now I get"Sync encountered an error while syncing:Firefox sync server maintenance is underway..."I have gotten this mesaage for the last 10 hours.Should I wait or is there an issue with my setup?

I just loaded Firefox onto my laptop. I set up the the sync add on and had no errors. When I hit sync now I get "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Firefox sync server maintenance is underway, syncing will resume automatically." I have gotten this message for the last 10 hours. Should I wait or is there an issue with my setup? I checked the Mozilla sync server status and it listed no issues.

There was a server out last week. see below. now everything works great. thanks for the follow up.

19:39:11 PDT --- Well, this is embarrassing. It looks like one of our
servers was down and for whatever reason we didn't notice.
It should be working now. If you still see errors, please reopen this bug.
