Okay, that's a lot of information. I think the key part for support purposes is this:
''TheDrive [[#question-1057777|said]]''
<blockquote>
Just try yourself. Setup new profile and work a few days or weeks on any theme(s). Do not close tabs (at least ones, which you wanna explore once more). If your PC has 2-4Gb of RAM you will notice FF stopped to save session info after you will have a 50-100 tabs opened (you'll see sessionstore.js or session-backups\*.js script files reached 15-20-30MB long and stopped to change and it's LastMod date/time(s) are frozen) ...<br><br>
... I've noticed FF started to hang more and more and checked previous.js, recovery.bak, recovery.js was last modified on Apr, 14 but today is Apr, 16! I've lost one more hour trying to save tabs, even installed Session Manager, promised session saving on user demand but after a half hour of action against hanging FF, plugin showed me that I have NO ONE tab to save. I've managed to copy a few URLs to the text file before FF have completely fallen.</blockquote>
You're not the first person to report that the sessionstore.js or recovery.js file stopped updating with new activity. However, it's rare enough that I can't recall whether we have gotten to the bottom of it in a previous thread. I'll see whether I can search it up.
Meanwhile, someone might be able to come up with a way to watch for problems and extract some debug information, but I'm not personally familiar with such tools.

  • Firefox sync has wiped all my data!!!

My laptop's disk crashed, so I've just installed a new one, and thought "OK great, I have Firefox Sync, it'll have my passwords and bookmarks saved". Did it hell!? I used to use a plugin for syncing my passwords and bookmarks, which worked beautifully, but it stopped running after Sync came out. Now Firefox Sync has seemed to have deleted ALL of my bookmarks and passwords because I did not have a "sync key". How do I request my data to be restored? There was a LOT of information stored in there that I NEED! Please can somebody provide me with a solution, I'm happy to pay an admin fee or whatever it is just to restore this information.
    - Justin

    Hi JustinN,
I'm sorry to read that you had issues with your hard drive and that it caused a reset of your Sync account.
Unfortunately Sync is not a back-up system and it's main purpose is to synchronize your data across devices not to store it. To ensure this is done in a secure way the system uses a [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/where-can-i-find-my-firefox-sync-key#w_what-is-the-sync-key-used-for key] that you only know. It's vital that you keep a copy (i.e. a back up) of this key to ensure that you would have access if anything happens to your main device (i.e. your laptop).
Once you have reset your account you have literally deleted all the information under the previous key. This is performed for security reasons, to avoid anyone accessing your private date, and it can't be undone.
I'll encourage you to back up all your important information either in a cloud service or in a different physical device (i.e. dvds, portable hard-drives, etc).

  • Firefox sync has no pair a device option, so how do I add a device?

    This is just like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/993253?esab=a&as=aaq
But the solution that person chose didn't work for me.
    1. Here's a picture of my sync options:
    http://i61.tinypic.com/qqtovo.png
    2. Proof my Firefox is already up to date:
    http://i58.tinypic.com/2432ge1.png
    3. Proof I'm already registered for the current version of sync (or that it's not clear how to do so):
    http://i60.tinypic.com/293ufkk.png
    4. I looked at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Identity/Firefox-Accounts, but it didn't solve my problem.
    What can I do?

The currently used new Sync version uses the email address and a password to connect to a specific Sync account and no longer allows to pair a device.
You also no longer need to supply a Sync key as that key is transparently derived from the password of the account, so changing the Sync password will invalidate data stored on the server.
    *https://wiki.mozilla.org/Identity/Firefox-Accounts
If you still use an old Sync account on some devices then it is not possible to connect to the old account with the current release or add a new account via pairing, but you can still connect by supplying the name and password and sync key if you have an older Firefox version.
All connected devices need to run a current Firefox release that supports the new Sync version.

  • I pressed something, and it made the browser go into a "full screen" mode, how do I change it back? And also, something happened and made my FireFox text on all internet pages smaller, is there any way I could change this setting?

I had pressed a button on my keyboard which made my text and pictures and the whole page smaller in size, can I change that? And how could I change my browser out of "Full Screen" mode?

You can press F10 to toggle (View) Full Screen mode.
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

  • How can I tell when Firefox sync has finished?

I have completed the form with my name, password and phrase. The instructions say " go to the Tools menu, select Sync and look for a Last Update time." However, there is no Sync in the tools menu, just a set-up sync. If I click it It starts the signup procedure again and immediately tells me that my user name is already in use.

OK, I'm not an expert. But, why set the scrollbars manually? Would it not be easier to put the JEditPane in a JScrollPane with the scroll policy set to "as needed"?

  • Is Firefox Sync compatible with x-marks, or do they both do the same thing?

X-marks has recently made a reappearance on my laptop, and is causing havoc with my bookmarks; on both the laptop and desktop.
Whilst x-marks "was away", Firefox Sync was installed and I am wondering if the two are compatible, or competitive; whether I would be better to dispose of x-marks nd rely upon Firefox Sync to keep the two machines in sync.
Your sage advice would be very welcome. Thank you!
    Peter

Thanks so much for your prompt response. I get really frightened when Bookmarks start disappearing; apparently randomly, and apparently associated with X-marks syncing.
As Firefox Sync has been working quite happily for me, and X-marks seems to have only made a re-appearance in the last few days (the log re-started from 7th October having been dormant since June), I am inclined to think that the two are fighting each other.
Therefore I am leaning towards disabling X-marks. If you have any further thoughts on this matter, please do share them with me. Thanks you again for taking the trouble to respond.

  • Trying to reset my Firefox sync password, but reset email is never received despite many attpemts.

I have a sync account. My password is not working. I have made multiple requests for a password reset email, but none have been received. There is nothing in my spam folder. I am stuck. I have a record of my Sync Key (from the old sync account), but I can find no information on how to use it to reset my account. Very very frustrating.

    Hi mrauth,
Firefox Sync has been discontinued in favor of Firefox Accounts - so that users no longer have to worry about Sync Keys.
You should be able to reset your password through the Firefox Accounts page:
    * [https://accounts.firefox.com/]
Please let us know if this works, or if you have any other issues. Please also verify that you are using the correct email address for recovery.

  • If I lost my mobile, how can I deactivate firefox sync on it... without it?

I have Firefox Sync running on my laptop, my desktop and on my smartphone too. If someone stole my phone... how can I stop Firefox Sync only on that device, from my laptop or desktop? I only know how to disable firefox sync on the device I want to disable. But if the device is not with me anymore... What should I do? If I stop using Firefox Sync on my desktop, my laptop will not sync anymore..

You'll need to change your Sync password and then reconnect things using the new password. For more detail, read here:

  • Firefox sync not supported

I run Firefox Version 10.0.2. When I follow the link to Firefox sync, I get a page that states it is no longer supported. Is Firefox sync still available? Am I running the latest version?

You are running the latest version of Firefox (10.0.2) and sync is builtin (nothing to install anymore).
However, your useragent is showing as Firefox 3.5.5...to fix do the following:
    * Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
    * If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
    * Filter = general.useragent.
    * Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset.
    * Then restart Firefox

  • I want to sync mail on a few computers but Firefox sync does not appear in the tools menu. Do I need to download and install syncing tool? Thanx

Also, bear in mind, please that at home I use Mac and in the office Win 7. I'd like to be able to sync my emails on both computers and my netbook which I use when travelling.
    Thanx
    Dean

Firefox doesn't do email, thus Firefox Sync has no features for email.
If you are accessing your email thru Firefox, you are using web mail. By default most email portals keep your email until you delete it. You should be able to access your email from anywhere - not device dependent.

  • For how long does Firefox Sync keep synced tabs?

I wonder if there's any time limit Firefox Sync has for storing opened URLs in the cloud? I don't have access to the computer which ran Firefox and kept its opened tabs in Firefox Sync. But now I don't see them in the "Tabs from other devices".

Thanks, but it doesn't say anything on how long Firefox keeps tabs in the sync.

  • After installing Firefox 4, Hotmail Page lost all it's formatting

After installing Firefox 4, my Hotmail "home" page lost all it's formatting. The Hotmail/Live logon screen is normal, but after logging on I see all the links and such in one long line down the left of the page. If I click on any of the links, like to go to my Inbox or Calendar, the resulting pages have the same problem. I've cleared cache and such and tried again, but same problem.
Everything works fine in Firefox 3.6 and I.E. 8.

When it comes to a security issue, shouldn't firefox work out the kinks before issuing an update rather than forcing other programs to adjust to firefox? This is a pretty arrogant opinion. WE are your customers and deserve better service than this!

  • I have Firefox 20.0.1 on my laptop which has Windows 7. When I try to print a range of "Selection on my Canon Pixma MG5320 from an internet page it will not do

I cannot print a selected "Selection" from an Internet page. I don't always want to print "All" of a page or pages.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • With Firefox as my default browser for a desktop iMac, a note appears "An attempt to change your home page and default search has been blocked" It won't go away

With Firefox as my default browser for a desktop iMac, a note appears "An attempt to change your home page and default search has been blocked" It won't go away. It tells me to click on the checkmark to change settings but that doesn't work and the red x in the upper right hand corner doesn't remove the note which is in the upper left corner of my iMac ??? The only thing that removes the note is quitting Firefox but it reappear as soon as I start Firefox back up ???

    If that does not work,
Start '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web Link} by holding down the '''<Shift><br> ''(Mac Options)'' ''' key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try '''Safe''' web sites.
