Firefox Sync Hogs CPU in Only 1 of 3 Computers

Sync is running on 3 computers, 2 XP and 1 Windows 7. Two work fine, but one XP machine goes to 100% CPU for any activity and sometime for no action on my part at all. Also getting 'error while syncing' message

Hi--Boy you are super super fast. Thank you so much.
I am typing the same number in range box, ie. page from 2 to 2. There is no place if you want to print only one specific page or at least I don't know about it. So I am continually copying and pasting. Thanks for your response and any help.

  • Can Firefox Sync be set up between two Mac computers, both with Firefox v36, but not running on the same OS X versions?

    I have a MacPro desktop (10.8.4) and MacBook laptop (OS 10.6.8). Both have the latest version of Firefox (v36). I've noticed some of the add-ons for one is not available for the other. How will Firefox Sync handle this? Can Firefox Sync be safely set up?
    Thank you,
    no1uno

    '''''"To give one example, one of the add-ons in the laptop is 'SEO for Firefox 3.6.4'. It seems this add-on is not available for (or compatible with?) the more recent OS of the MacPro. How would Firefox Sync handle this? "'''''
    I don't even see an extension by that name at the official Add-ons website - AMO. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
    If you installed that extension from anywhere except for AMO I would expect Sync to just ignore it.
    ''I have at least a half-a-dozen extensions that don't get sync'd, because they aren't available from AMO - they were installed from the author's own websites.''
    As far as how Sync would handle versions of the same extension, but for different operating systems or OS versions - I would like to see an example of such an extension, that is the exact same extension ''[but maybe different version numbers]'' that is hosted at AMO.
    Also, Sync doesn't actually "synchronize" extensions, it "installs" the same extension that is "noted" as being installed on one device, and installs those same extensions on the other devices that don't have the same extensions.
    And that creates another problem ''[IMO]'', the preferences don't get "sync'd" '''''if''''' an extension isn't specifically made to be compatible with Sync. There is no "standard" at AMO for add-on extension authors to "tell" users that their extension is specifically compatible with Sync, as far as synchronizing preferences and "data" is concerned.
    One example is - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ - '''yes''' it is Sync-compatible and the GM scripts do synchronize, but the AMO page says nothing about that "feature" being available. Also, Adblock Plus is partially compatible - but only as far as the Filter subscriptions are concerned, none of the user created "custom" filters are synchronized.

  • Firefox 13 hogs cpu all of a sudden

    Hey, everyone.
    I'm having terrible experience with the new firefox 13, and I was wondering if other people are experiencing the same. FYI, I'm using Windows 7, i7, and 8gb ram.
    After the auto-update, after 10-20 minutes into browsing, my hard drive (SSD) engages completely full rendering my computer useless. Everything is unresponsive, and the only thing that I can do is hard reset.
    I tried uninstalling FF 13, but the same thing would happen with IE and Chrome. So I did a system recovery. The good news is the HDD problem is gone, but after the auto-update to FF 13, I realized the computer is terribly slow. I opened my resouce monitor, and wow, FF is pretty much driving the CPU to 100% constantly. I turn FF off, and it's fine. On FF12, I would have more than triple numbers of tabs (40+)compared to now (12-13) open, but it wouldn't render my computer slow.
    This is a little frustrating since the setting and extensions are exactly same before. The only difference is the new Firefox.
    Has anyone experienced the same thing?

    I don't have a solution but I just wanted to say Firefox team get to this problem quickly we need a new upgrade to fix this problem,I will not use any other browser. :)

  • The password save prompt box does not appear on logging in to certain password protected webpages; is there another way of adding their passwords to Firefox sync?

    Dear Firefox tech supporter,
    I am Currently running:
    Firefox v6.0.2;
    Windows 7 fully updated at 19 Sept 2011 15:45 GMT;
    Norton Internet Security 2011 (using Identity Safe) fully updated at same time as Windows 7;
    Extensions to Firefox-
    Norton Toolbar 2011.7.1.3;
    Symantec IPS 3.1;
    Add to Amazon Wish List Button 7.1;
    Minimap Addon 0.3.13
    Plugins
    The usual suspects from Microsoft, Adobe, Wacom, Apple and Google, all of which are checked and no updates currently found.
    With webpages such as <https://shop.avanquest.com/members/?company_rs=51>, PayPal and Windows Live e.g. after correct login details are entered into the online form and login is performed successfully. The "key" symbol does not appear to the left of the "awesome bar", neither does the password save pop up box and so the login details for the site cannot be saved in Firefox sync.
    This is not specific to https secure sites, as I have been able to save the passwords for several https secure sites and conversely, I have been unable to save the passwords for some http non secure URLs. I have ensured that, whilst trying to enter a page or site into Firefox sync, it has the only tab open.
    There does not seem to be a way of manually entering website details (URL, User Name, Password etc.) into Firefox Sync; how can I save the password details for such sites?
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Chris Morris

  • Use Firefox Sync to store bookmarks in the cloud?

    Can I setup Firefox Sync even if I only have one device? If so, can I use Firefox Sync to backup my bookmarks to the cloud (instead of using a third-party extension?) I'm guessing that Sync stores bookmarks in the cloud because how else would it be able to merge bookmarks with another device (e.g., a phone)?

    Sync does indeed store the data you choose to Sync in the cloud.
    Because you need to retain a lengthy unique code in order to recover that data from a different installation of Firefox, many users find it not to be a good method of backup because that Recovery Key was lost in a hard drive crash or reformat. Make sure you store the key in a safe location outside of your computer along with your username and password.
    If you end up choosing to use a different cloud backup service such as Crashplan or Carbonite, you can point it to your bookmarkbackups folder so you have a number of files for potential recovery. To get the full path to that hidden folder, the easiest way is to access it from within Firefox.
    You can open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
    Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
    Double-click bookmarkbackups. You should see numerous files that are date and time coded. You can click after the folder name in the address bar to select and copy the path. (This is based on Windows 7, but I assume Windows 8.1 is similar from the desktop side.)

  • I can't access "Manage Account" in Firefox Sync

    I set up Firefox Sync on 4 devices - three Windows PC computers (standard user accounts on all three) and one Android smartphone. The initial syncs all went fine, but I ran into real problems when I also tried to sync Firefox in my administrative account on one of my PCs. This attempt failed, and now syncs aren't happening for any of my devices, even when I execute a "Sync Now," and the "Manage Account" button has disappeared from all of the Sync Options dialog boxes (the same box that is reached when the "Set Up Sync..." menu command is given) on all of my computers, no matter what I do, so I can't get to my Recovery Key. When I do "Set Up Sync..."/"I have an account"/"Sync Options", the Device Name is correct for all my computer's accounts, even the administrative account I tried to set up, and my Android phone keeps saying that my device is being synched on a regularly basis (although only with data already on the server, not with data from any of my other devices), so my Sync account shows some signs of life. I'm wondering how I get Sync working again?

    I use Secure Login (Firefox extension) for my password manager rather than Firefox's own password manager.
    Also, although it would be very nice to be able to recover my Recovery Key, I don't know how far that would go towards solving my basic problem, getting Sync back up and working again.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • How can I get my iMac Firefox bookmarks into my iPad? When I sync my iPad it only moves the old Safari bookmarks.

    My desk-top is an iMac G5. I use the Firefox brouser exclusively on it and have for a number of years. I now have an iPad [#1] but it only has Safari as a brouser. When I "Sync" my iPad with my iMac it brings my "old" Safari bookmarks list to the iPad. I cannot find a way to get my "everyday" Firefox bookmarks list into the iPad? What do I have to do??

    '''Did you backup whatever bookmarks you did have on the computer ? '''
    Remember any restoring of bookmarks overwrites whatever he current set is, and you may not want to loose them.
    Even if up until now you have not made any backups of Desktop bookmarks Firefox will have backed up some of them into sets of daily bookmark backups. Once you have backed up your current set you could look at what it has by restoring those bookmarks, you may find one of those sets is fairly complete.
    By the way if you look at the profile files and folders that you should now have on the desktop you should see it contains a bookmarks backup folder, the size of the files within should indicate whether they contain anything.
    You need to go into the bookmarks library and try the restore option. Backup each set that you look at if it has anything of use in it, before trying the next set. With look one of those will be a fairly complete set of bookmarks.
    * USE '''Show All Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore '''
    ** see [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer#w_restoring-from-backups]]_restoring-from-backups
    I do not use Firefox on mobiles, but before you try anything further you do need to backup the desktop bookmarks and learn what existing backups you have. Unless you master that you are in continual danger of overwriting and loosing bookmarks.
    Presumably you have already found this listing of help articles for mobiles

  • I lost all my bookmarks and add ons , firefox sync restore only three addons and no bookmark.

    I perfom a format to my computer and install firefox again but sync doesnt work.

    Hello there,
    Unfortunately Firefox Sync isn't meant to be used as a backup device, but merely to sync data between multiple devices. So it is not guaranteed that you can restore data from the Sync server.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Backing+up+your+information
    Hope this helps!

  • Firefox Sync only Bookmarks when I chose all

    - I chose to Sync all (Bookmarks, History,Password etc)
    - After a while when I go to Option->Sync I can see only bookmark checked (ticked)
    Does it mean FF would sync only bookmarks ?
    How would I know what it is syncing !!!

    ''"There is no any other devices. Only my PC !!! "''
    ... so you are just syncing the setup of this PC with the server, but no other devices (at least not yet), correct?
    What will be synced, is entirely in your hands. Check other boxes, like passwords, history etc (Tools > Options > Sync). Then these contents will be synchronized with the server as well - and with other devices, if you decide to do so later (and if you decide on any of the devices involved, to sync just passwords for instance, then only passwords will be kept synced).

  • Can't get firefox sync to work. I keep getting 'Error While Syncing' message

    I am on Mac OS X 10.6.4, Snow Leopard on a Mini Mac a year old.
    I got a message from X Marks telling me they were shutting down.
    As I use my bookmarks every day and have thousands of them all sorted into folders I definitely never want to lose them or lose access to them if my house burns down or my computer is stolen!
    I was using Firefox 3.6 and followed X Marks advise and downloaded Firefox Sync...but...won't work....kept giving me the 'Error While Syncing' message after trying to sync for a while. I looked at the blog and tried a few things like resetting password, restarting computer, checking my setting etc., but no deal. So, as the Firefox Sync download page told me that if I was using Firefox 4 beta the feature was built in and I didn't need the download, I then downloaded Firefox 4....which has removed my X Marks option, which was at least viable till after Xmas! and I still have the 'Error While Syncing' message beside the Sync button on my status bar....so now I am completely at a loss. The only thing I can do if I can't fix it up is go back to 3.6 and go on using X Marks while it is still available and pray that you get this sorted out before they dissappear.
    I also like to be able to get my updated bookmarks on the other browsers I use, like Chrome and IE, so I would really appreciate it if you would include this cross browser sync capability as soon as you can. I have pledged X Marks that I would even pay for their service to continue as it seems they are so ahead of anyone else in their service and it is a large pain in the you know where that they can't keep going.
    Thanks. and I hope you can help. From the blogs it seems that I am not the only one having this problem of getting the Firefox Sync working

    @globaltruth
    Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it. Unfortunately, the error message still sits on my statusbar, right after the Firefox Sync image.

  • How many users are registered for using the firefox sync server?

    I'm working on a german wikipedia article about "Firefox Sync" and I need more information about the current usage and the historical development of this feature - number of registered users for the Sync Server at Mozilla - would be nice to have numbers for 2011, 2012, and current usage.
    If possible, it would be also useful to know how many german speaking users are using the sync service.
    Where are your Sync Servers located (US, Europe, Asia)?
    What kind of systems and platforms are supported?
    Is there a current documentation about the importance of the Firefox Sync Service, that I may reference?

    thanks for your fast reply,
    your URL to the page with the ideas of the new PiCL service shows in the remark about the usability of the "Firefox Sync" some hints about the usage of the current sync service "only 1% of our users have actually done so" - so I will use that as reference.
    But it would be nicer to have some public message - for example: a mozilla blog entry - from the mozilla services group about the number of registered Sync Server User - and also about performance and reliabilty.
    But if that is private information only, you can close this problem.

  • All my firefox sync data has been deleted and I don't know why. Any way to restore it??

    I had alot of bookmarks and passwords on my firefox sync. However, I rebooted my computer a few days ago and now when I clicked on "Merge sync data" my data still does not appear and it seems like everything has been deleted. Can I restore this data?

    I have tried restoring it but it only shows dates for the last 5 days which doesn't help. I rebooted my computer (formatted hard drive and reinstalled windows) a few days ago so any backup files in my computer are gone. I thought that there are backup copies made on the Firefox server but obviously I was wrong!
    I don't see the point of Firefox sync if you can't view your bookmarks etc online and if there aren't backups made on the server.

  • I deleted my Firefox Sync account at one point, but would like to create a new one using the same email address. Is this possible?

    I had a Firefox Sync account a while back on an email address and then I deleted it. Now I want to use Firefox Sync again. I had forgotten that I deleted my account, but after trying to send password reset emails to that address and failing to receive them I can only conclude that the email is still on record in Firefox Sync, even if the account has been deleted.
    Is it possible for me to set up a new account using this email address? Trying to set it up through Firefox tells me that the email address is in use, when from my point of view it is not.

    Strangely enough, sending the email from account.services.mozilla.com did the trick this time! Thanks.
