Firefox sync reorder some of my bookmarks.

Firefox sync is messing badly with my bookmarks. Three folders on my toolbar are moved to the front of the toolbar and it inverted the order of the bookmarks in one of them. It happened two times today after restarting Firefox. I fear I'll have to disable that feature until this is fixed.

txaaa i've stopped using firefox sync, this messing with my bookmarks gets extremely old fast >_< i cant work good if my bookmarks are all over the place...

I did read what you posted, and will point out once more - the organised bookmarks were kept, the unsorted - the majority - were lost. I tried accessing them THROUGH sync as I couldn't find them before I started sync and thought that might help. Really didn't. Sync was only loaded with version 6, never used it on 3. Updated from 3 to 6; tried to find bookmarks. All unsorted ones GONE. accessed sync; no bookmarks. went back to three. never shifting again, version 6 is a quick trip to hell. Should have known not to trust the program to preserve bookmarks, blame myself for being so bloody stupid to trust it to keep my information safe. Moral: always save multiple backups.

  • Firefox sync scrambled all of my bookmarks and I want to restore a backup of my bookmarks if that is possible.

The other day, Firefox Sync scrambled most of my bookmarks and I need to know if there is a way to restore a copy of my bookmarks from a point in the past. Thousands of bookmarks, all organized into folders, are now "loose" and unsorted. If I have to restore all of them, it would take weeks.
Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution?

  • Firefox sync is adding space when bookmarking, how do I remove it?

I have firefox synced on a laptop and desktop, both of which I use regularly. I often bookmark pages on one and like the convenience of having them appear on the other for ease of access. The problem I'm having is that bookmarks that I make with one computer appear on the other with one additional space each time I bookmark additional pages. I can't select the space, but I can put bookmarks between the spaces. It's quite a pain, and I would like to learn how to remove them before they add up. Thank you in advance. Firefox v. 28.0, Windows 7.

You can remove separators in the Library (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Note that you may have to disable (unlink) Sync temporarily when trying fixes for the places.sqlite file to prevent Sync from interfering.

  • I would like to copy my work book marks onto my home computer without erasing the home bookmarks. Will firefox Sync merely add my work bookmarks to the home computer or will it replace my home bookmarks with the work ones?

No other details. Just considering using Firefox Sync. The answer will help me to decide.

set the wake-on lan on the main computer
The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

  • Firefox sync does not synchronize live bookmarks

Seems to be related to bug 668607 but not identical. On multiple computers, sync seems to break Live Bookmark RSS by displaying empty folders, even on the original creating computer. In addition, they appear multiple times on each machine's toolbar.

Maybe this bug (shows fixed in Firefox 17, currently on the beta channel):
*Bug 769527 - Syncing bookmarks between desktop and current mobile build (14) causes bookmarked feeds to turn into empty folders.

  • I don't have a problem. I want to understand how I can get the bookmarks imported to Firefox sync now that Xmarks will be discontinued.

I have all my bookmarks sync'd via Xmarks, across computers. Now that Xmarks is being discontinued, I want to have my bookmarks sync'd via Firefox sync. So how do I make sure that once I install Firefox sync, I get all my bookmarks from Xmarks into Firefox sync. I assume I import, but it doesn't say anything about this in the info about Firefox sync. Before I install, I want to know what measures to take with the bookmarks from Xmarks. Thanks for taking the time to answer this, I am sure, simplistic question.

As with Xmarks, Firefox Sync will import the bookmarks on your local computer. The bookmarks on your computer should be up to date and include any changes that are on the Xmarks servers. There is no need for Firefox Sync to import the data from the Xmarks server, it just needs to import the bookmarks on your computer.
For details on using it start with the [[What is Firefox Sync]] article. It has a description of what Firefox Sync does and links to how to use it.

  • Xmarks sychronyzes moved or deleted bookmarks, can FireFox Sync do the same?

I am using Xmarks, any changes with my bookmarks will be synchronyze automatically, such as: moving, deleting, sorting...
Can FireFox Sync do the same?

The [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10868/ Firefox Sync] add-on will synchronize bookmarks, this add-on will be built into Firefox 4.

  • How to connect to firefox sync by sync key?

    Hi.
Before to re-install Windows, I saved my Firefox Sync Key.
After windows installation, I can't to access my firefox sync account to get my bookmarks! It says: unknown account, register!
But I have a KEY, I need my bookmarks back!
Help me, please, to recovery my bookmarks back!
    Thanks.

You must have been using a quite old Firefox version if that version still used a distinct Sync key.
Firefox 29 and later no longer use a specific Sync key, but derive the Sync key from the password of the Firefox Account that you use to log in to this account.
You would need a Firefox 28 version to connect to an old Sync account that used the Sync key.

  • Some bookmarks missing on mobile device after firefox sync

I have Firefox 12 installed on my iMac, running Mac OSX 10.6.8. I've successfully setup my Firefox sync and linked both my iPad 3rd gen, and my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1. Besides the sync process taking forever, I also noticed that a few bookmarks are missing on my devices. I've tried re-syncing, and unlinking the devices and relinking them, and I even deleted, recreated and resynced my account but the problem persists. Happens to be the same bookmarks missing on both devices. What do you advise?

Consider switching to a cloud-based bookmarking platform where there's no need to backup, sync or import your bookmarks because they are automatically backed up and inherently synched, and all your bookmarks are always available using any browser from any computer, mobile phone or tablet. My company operates http://iCrumz.com, a free cloud-based Internet bookmarking service. The iCrumz interface allows you to have 100 or more bookmarks on a single webpage without being cluttered. iCrumz also offers an import function, so you can import and consolidate all your bookmarks from all your browsers on all your devices. • I no longer get my bookmarks in my dropdown menu on my yahoo tool bar plus i cannot add or delete apps on my yahoo toolbar.i believe this all started w/ a firefox upgrade of some sort.

i no longer get my bookmarks in my drop down menu on my yahoo tool bar plus i cannot add or delete apps on my yahoo toolbar. i have emailed yahoo and they said it is not their trouble & to call at&t and i called att and they said not their trouble go back to yahoo .......but i believe this all started w/ a firefox upgrade of some sort.

I know you can't help with my Yahoo problem, however, apparently at some time in the past I have went to the Sync and tried to figure it out on both my laptop and my desktop, because I have the long snyc key information. However, when I go to try to sync both computers I never get the box to enter that key on either one. That is my problem. So should I try and get a new sync key and see if that works.

  • I installed Firefox sync and then used iphone app called FireFox Home and I can syncronize history, tabs and bookmarks. But I am NOT able to syncronize passwords from Firefox in my Macbook to FireFox Home on iPhone !

I installed Firefox sync and then used iphone app called FireFox Home and I can syncronize history, tabs and bookmarks. But I am NOT able to syncronize passwords from Firefox in my Macbook to FireFox Home on iPhone so I am very terrible to input my IDs and Passwords with my hands on FireFox Home when I log into Facebook, Twitter etc... Is it issue or something like that? If you have some solutions to make it clear, can you tell me how to syncronize memorized IDs and Passwords for the webs. Thank you.

  • Does Firefox Sync have a maximum number of folders limit for bookmarks, all are syncing to my other computer/mobile except for the last 5 folders

Have 2 computers, 1 mobile device
    1. Main computer: Personal laptop
    2. Secondary computer: Work
    3. Mobile Device: Android Phone
The Main Computer always has ~5 folders containing bookmarks which never appear on 2 or 3. An example of one of these folders would be 'cooking' which contains a few recipes i use.

How long have you being using Firefox Sync? Perhaps is taking some time to sync those specific folders. My suggestion is to keep the 2 computers on for an hour if you haven't being using Firefox Sync for a long time to make sure that you give enough time to the system.
If that doesn't work I will suggest to open a bug. Follow the instructions in this link:
    https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/
That will be helpful for you and for other users that may be hitting the same problem you have.

  • Firefox sync after a fresh install resulted in zero bookmarks imported

I recently formatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7. Before doing it, I made sure that my Firefox profile was synced up and my bookmarks were in the "cloud" as I thought. I was under the assumption that Firefox Sync works just like Chrome sync in a sense that it stores all of my bookmarks, etc. in the cloud. I do not sync my bookmarks with any other device. It's just one laptop with a sync profile set up on it. To my surprise, when I installed a fresh copy of Firefox and initiated a sync, I was prompted to pair my laptop with another device and enter some kind of a code. I was expecting to enter my username and password and have my bookmarks restored. Plain and simple.
I might have been wrong in my assumptions, but if there is any way I can restore my previous bookmarks please let me know how to do it. It would be a shame if I lose all of my bookmarks permanently.

    Hi Philipp,
Thanks for your prompt answer. When setting up Firefox I did just that: ''firefox > options > sync > set-up sync > i have an account > i don't have the device with me''. I was able to log in with my username and password, bypassing the need for the recovery key, but it didn't do anything. None of my previous bookmarks were restored as result of it. If I go to ''firefox > options > sync'', it says that I'm signed in, but it has no effect on the bookmarks.
Your first sentence is key though. I misunderstood what Firefox Sync actually does. It's a shame that it ONLY keeps multiple devices in sync. It should do more than that and allow me to restore my bookmarks, passwords, etc. from the cloud. Just like Google Chrome does.
The bottom line is, I don't see a clear way of restoring my bookmarks, since I wasn't syncing them with any other device to begin with.
