Firefox tabs combining

When I use Firefox I tend to open a lot of tabs. But when I go to close tabs they all go, except when I get down to three tabs and close the third tab, the remaining two tabs combine together so that only one of them is visible. To see the other tab I have to open another third tab. It is as though Firefox can display 1, 3 or more tabs but not 2. Anyone know why or how I stop it doing this?
''I have included the troubleshooting information although I have this problem on another computer running Firefox with different extensions installed''

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Why does the Welcome to firefox tab open with my google tab every time I open the browser? And why can't the browser hold any add-ons I downloaded? I loose then when I close the browser, even tool bars have to be reinstalled every time I open the browser

Every time I open the browser the Welcome to Firefox tab is the first tab, then a second tab opens and thats my google, then a 3rd tab opens for me to reinstall my toolbar. This has been happening for a good year. Updates have not fixed it. Others have this problem. I did a search for an answer, the question is out there but no answer. Now if I go into add ons and add a background Theme or an extension it all is gone when I exit the browser. When I open the browser again I get all 3 tabs and have to install my toolbar again. I DO NOT want to reinstall as I will loose all my saved data, passwords, bookmarks, everything! I have had this computer for a year, Windows Vista x64 bit. Its not the computer, it's the browser. If you have specific questions e-mail me and I will be more then happy to help

• Can no longer open two Firefox tabs, have close using Task Bar/Processes. Some links won't activate on websites. As per support suggestion, have backed up profile, deleted existing profile, removed firefox and replaced thingsetc

Can no longer open two Firefox tabs at the same time. Will disappear from screen but won't close - have to go to Task Bar/ Processes to close it, some links won't activate on websites. As suggested in the support area I have gone through the process of backing up my profile, deleted existing profile, removed firefox from computer, reinstalled profile in fresh folder, reinstalled firefox 6. I have done this twice for no effect - may work as it used to for a while (30mins) then gets back to its old tricks.
It is a bit irritating.

• How do I prevent a new Firefox tab from opening when opening a PDF in Adobe.

First off, this issue started Monday, August 25th 2014 when I was forced to update Firefox in order to log into my online accounting program. I was not having this issue in the previous Firefox version.
When I open a PDF document from an email (which shows a Firefox icon next to it), the document opens in Adobe reader, but also a blank tab opens in Firefox, even with it's not already open. When I close the PDF document, the Firefox tab remains open and I have to manually close it. This does not happen with PDF documents that I have saved to my company's network or to my computer (which have the Adobe icon). I refuse to have to save PDFs to my computer as a workaround for this issue.
Under Tools > Options > Applications, I've already switched the Adobe/PDF options to open in Adobe. Also, in about:config, the value for "pdfjs.disabled" reads "true" and "plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types" contains "application/pdf".
I work with a lot of PDFs and I'm frustrated to the point where I'm about to unistall Firefox and just use Internet Explorer.

hello, does it work when you go into the ''acrobat reader > edit > preferences > general ''& click on the default application option at the bottom? in there reselect adobe's application and confirm this selection...

• I can't get the Firefox tab in order to access all the choices there. Where is it?

In the Mozilla support, it keeps telling me to click on the orange Firefox tab at the top of my screen. I don't have one and can't find how to make it appear. Any advice?

For new installs, Firefox on Vista and higher will show an orange Firefox button. For users who upgraded from Firefox 3.6, I think you kept the classic menu bar.

• Browsing Basics video has many more tabs on screen than my Mac Firefox shows (i.e. no Firefox tab, no bookmark tab, no new tab tab,no all tabs tab), so most features of Firefox are not available to me .

I'm a year into using a computer, and my Mac was set up by another family member who is no longer around.
Tonight I noticed the Firefox "getting started: tab and thought I might learn something. For starters, the screen on the Browsing Basics picture was so small as to be almost unreadable; I played parts of the video many times to catch what tab was being explained. It did not help that many of the tabs on the video were not on my Mac's Firefox screen.
Specifically, my screen has no Firefox tab (except at the top next to the Mac Apple logo), no bookmark tab to the right of the Home tab, no plus sign/new tab tab, no all tabs tab.
My screen also does not match the details on the sample screen that comes up when I first clicked on the Firefox "getting started" tab.
It would seem I need a new Firefox top section of my screen, but I just downloaded Firefox updates.......Thanks for any help!

I too just downloaded Firefox on my Mac and noticed that my screen did not match the video. The video's sample screen has been customized to show all the features you can add and use to make browsing easier, like adding all those tabs you and I don't have yet.
But first let me comment on how small the video is, with no way of expanding the video. Your mac can easily zoom in to make the video as big as you need it. Just hold down your ctrl key, place two fingers on your track pad and zoom in or out to the desired size. I use this feature so much, to read small text and watch video windows that are too small. Try it.
After you finish watching the "getting started video" just roll over the markers to make Firefox do what you need it to do. I however have the most of the tab features already from importing some of my settings from another browser so I can't tell you step by step on how to get the tabs you want. Just play around with it and I'm sure you'll begin to appreciate the speed and ease like I do.

• I've lost the orange firefox tab with the arrow, that was in the top left corner: how do I get it back?

I've lost the orange firefox tab with the arrow, that was in the top left corner: how do I get it back?

In current Firefox releases (29 and later), that have have the Australis user interface, the orange Firefox menu button has been replaced by the three-bar Firefox Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar and this button is always visible, whether you have the menu bar visible or hidden
A consequence of this location is that you no longer can hide the Navigation Toolbar
*There is a star like button to the right end of the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu.
You can find "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) at the bottom of this drop-down list
*It is still possible to have the menu bar visible via the right-click context menu on the toolbars to have menus like the Bookmarks menu
*
*If you bookmark a page then "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu changes to "Edit This Bookmark"

• My toolbars and even my Firefox tab keep disappearing. How do I get them back?

I have tried everything. Your chat does not answer me. I need help.
On your website the Firefox tab is at the top and my normal tool bar is at the bottom.
However, all the add-on toolbars, ie, Roboform and google and My Points are missing.
But, when I click on the web browser Firefox opens with NO toolbars top or bottom and NO Firefox tab. How do I fix this and stop it from happening again and again?

I did the same thing last night also with my MacBook Pro. None of my music, video or photos not taken originally on my iphone were reloaded back onto my phone. I received an error message instead. I had to just re-drag the music and videos that I wanted back to my iphone. As far as my photos taken on my iphone...by chance, I had just backed those up earlier that day. I'm not sure where the photos are that I had put on my iphone in the beginning...they still show up in people's contacts, but they no longer show up under photos - ? This is very frustrating!

• The Red Firefox tab in the upper lefthand corner is gone. how do I get it back?

my desktop at home has this Firefox tab and if I click it I can see tools, History, bookmarks etc. I would like to get it back. Can you help?

* You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).
* If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.

• I have installed - uninstalled - and reinstalled version 4, but I do not have Firefox Tab in upper left-hand corner. Why? Where is it and how do I get it?

Reference is frequently made to the orange Firefox Tab at the very top of the vers. 4 downloaded screen. I do not have this tab anywhere on my screen, even after uninstalling and reinstalling. Why and how do I get it?

The new interface is only default on Windows Vista and Windows 7. To get it on Windows XP you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.

• Clicking GMAIL off toolbar crashes FIREFOX tabs that are open...everything, INCLUDING writing projects in progress, is lost

Under FireFOX 3.06.10
I have google toolbars on my Firefox Browser, to get to email easier, but with latest version, when I open google button in new window, Firefox closes all the the open tabs.
These used to be independent, and anything done in a new window, "open in new window" did not affect the existing Firefox tabs that were already open.
NOW, when I open google tool bar button, "add-on", FireFox closes the existing browser session, with all the browser tabs, and everything, all gone.... VANISHED.

• I want tabs on bottom. Instructions say go to Firefox tab at top of page. There is no such tab & I can't change it from Tools options.

I just installed FF 5.0 & info page says to change tabs back go to Firefox tab on top of page and click options. There is no such tab on my page. Also if the guy in the video tutorial about why this is "better" spoke clearly and about 50 miles an hour slower, maybe I could understand what he was saying. You have a lot of glitches tight now. My password would not work & when I reset it & tried to access the "Support" page it said "Access Denied". This was after it said my password was successfully changed. Please notify me by email when an answer is found. Thank you.
