Firefox takes a very long time to open and cannot connect to any website

After updating to Firefox 3.6 and attempting to follow the link to update Flash player (the link was broken), Firefox began to work VERY slowly. I closed the browser and, when I tried to open it again, it took in excess of 30 minutes to open, which it finally did. However, while it was initially able to open some websites (google.com), it reached the point of being unable to open anything at all.

You could try to disable this feature for now by toggling this pref on the <b>about:config</b> page:
*devtools.debugger.source-maps-enabled = false

    I suspect you may have a corrupt photo or image that is causing the sync to fail or quit. You might want to try removing all of your photos by deselecting them in iTunes then sync - and try adding them by each sub-folders until you are able to nail down which sub-folder of photos, that causes the sync to stop or gives you errors.

    The first index with Lion takes a very long time.  Could take over 10 hours.  You just have to wait.  You can see the progress by opening Console and entering backupd in the search box

    Even though I wait for a very long time (minutes)  for Photoshop Elements 11 to open a PNG file, the computer's process monitor shows nothing discernible going on while I am waiting.
    This is on a Windows 7 machine with an Intel I7 4 core processor.

    I killed Firefox and Thunderbird and tried it again.  Using a stopwatch, it took 5 minutes 54 seconds to open the file.  In the interim the application windows were frozen.  The process monitor showed Photoshop not responding.  The thread analysis showed a thread waiting on splwow64.exe. 
    splwow64.exe allows 32-bit applications to connect with the 64-bit printer spooler service on x64 Windows builds.
    I should also point out that when I exit Photoshop, it does not seem to die.  I cannot restart it in the normal way.  The starter software just goes away when I click on PE 11.  I finally fo into the task monitor and kull the PhotoshopElements process.  Then I can restart Photoshop Elements.  Although after a long time since I exited PE while I was writing this post, I then just tried opening PE the normal way and it worked.  Many of these items I mention are probably red herrings.

    I have been a loyal user of Firefox since 2005 and have never had and issue with this browser. It has been my top choice when it comes to using it in my devices along with suggesting to other people. The problem I have recently began to experience happened after updating to the newer version...4 or 5, not sure which. My Adobe Flash player is up to date and have no add-ons running that are not part of the default browser.
    When I click the icon it takes a long time for the window to show up and a good minute before the homepage shows up and is functional to use. I never had this issues with previous versions so I am assuming there might be some bug causing this particular problem. Also, when I am playing games Firefox decided to stop responding and I have to force quit so my games don't suddenly slow down. I am running Mac OS X 10.6.7; I also tested opening Safari and it opened and loaded the homepage is about 3 seconds, I don't wanna have to switch unless I have to. Any help is appreciated, thanks. :)

    First off I need a little more information to help with troubleshooting.  You say that an error occurs when you "try to re-open the same problem app before the old session completely exits".  Does the error have an error code or dialog display?  It may also be possible to receive an error log.  Here is a knowledge base that explains how to retrieve error logs.

  • Illustrator CC is taking a very long time to open and save files.

    I am using a Mac with the Mavericks OS. Illustrator can take up to FIVE MINUTES to open or save a file. It is becoming a waste of time as I have to work on multiple projects a day. I read about "Adobe Drive" but have not found this option on the version of Illustrator that I have.

    I have followed the above suggestions with no avail. I have only been opening files from my desktop. This issue is only with Illustrator, Photoshop works fine.
    I ran a script yesterday that opens up eps files and saves them as a png, and what normally takes around 30 seconds took almost 45 minutes. I need to solve this problem asap.
    Would uninstalling and reinstalling the CC suite be of any benifit?

  • Songs take a very long time to open

    Hello,
    For some reason, songs that I've created that used to open very quickly in Logic Express now take significantly longer (almost 3 minutes to open one song). This only occurs with previously saved songs. The behaviour is always the same:
    - I click File -> Open Recent -> song
    - Garageband drumkits are loaded; the status bar stalls at the very end of loading the last kit used for nearly a minute.
    - The Arrange window opens, but it is not the active window; clicking inside does not make it active.
    - The spinning beach ball appears for almost 2 minutes. When it goes away the song appears to have loaded fine; playback and program functionality appear normal.
    During the loading period, the Activity Monitor shows a lot of CPU and RAM usage, and one massive Disk Activity spike.
    I've just recently installed some demo plug-ins (all universal). Could these be causing it? Or is this a normal load time for LE when you have multiple plug-ins installed? I'm using LE version 7.2.1, but this issue started occurring quite a while after updating so I don't think the update caused it. Has anyone encountered anything like this before?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the suggestions Jorge. It seems it was a third-party plug after all. Through a process of elimination I figured out that songs containing more than one instance of this plug-in made the CPU jump to 104% (I didn't even know this was possible!) in the Activity Monitor at startup, and caused Logic to have a status of 'Not Responding' (Logic's status returns to normal after the song has loaded and resources are returned to normal levels). Since it only happens with this particular plug-in I can only assume it's not a Logic issue. Thanks again.

    If I use Internet Explorer, it loads almost immediately.

    Start up with your built-in Recovery disk by holding down the Command and R keys when starting. Open Disk Utility from there and use it to REPAIR your disk (you've already verified it and it came up with errors).
    With any luck, your problems will be solved. While I was there, I would also repair  permissions.

    No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault.  And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
    The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.
