Firefox telling users that Java is out of date

Currently, the latest Java version out for WIndows PC, is Java7 U51. Java8 has been released in Beta version. When you do a check in Firefox to check if your plugins are up do date, Firefow tells you that Java is out of date. It wants you to upgrade to Java8. Its been this way from the day Java8 was released in Bate version
That shouldn't be. As long as Java8 is only Beta, the lates veriosn that can be referenced is Java7U51. Please fix.

Yes, sorry, this is a known problem and has been posted in the bug tracking system where different approaches are under discussion.
Due to a change in Firefox 29, a completely different system is being developed for plugin checking, and based on what I read yesterday, that might be taking priority over various lingering problems with the current plugin checker.

I keep getting pop-overs saying my Java is out of date. I already have updated Java and removed any previous versions to prevent a false reading. How do I block this from happening. This occurs on all of my computers when using Firefox. It is getting out of control.

Overall, you may have some Malware installed that is generating that message in an attempt to entice you into installing something that is even more malicious.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

Thank you for the replies. I'm afraid neither one helped.
kglad, I never get to any error code so your link can't help.
Jeff, I looked at your link and
    a) again, I never make it to an error code
    b) I'm definitely connected to the internet
    c) I can access secure sites; I tried connecting with the firewall disabled and the same thing happened, so I don't believe it's a firewall issue.
    d) I don't understand the checking host sites - this is far too complicated for a novice user. It should not be this difficult to get a software running. I don't want to mess with these kinds of settings.
    e) I followed the steps for the global sign in root CA and my screen looks the same as the picture here.
I can't activate the software offline as there is no option to generate a response code when I click on having trouble connecting to the internet. All I get is a prompt to change my password.
If the problem were simply connectivity from my computer, then why does the box completely freeze? Can't cancel, can't click on the little X to close it, can't right click on the box to close it. I have to reboot every single time. I know others have had the same problem and I haven't found any answers that I could apply.
I don't understand for the life of me why Adobe does not have TELEPHONE customer support. I have spent 2 days on this, this is crazy.

  • Firefox 34.05 says plugin is out-of-date, insecure, and thus disabled. But...my version is higher than the blocked version

Upon updating to Firefox 34.05, I've been faced with the fact that this version of Firefox (erroneously) thinks some of my plugins are out of date, and has disabled them, for my safety.
For instance, it tells me that "Adobe Acrobat Reader is known to be vulnerable and must be updated". Upon clicking the link to update it, it informs me that "Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and lower has been blocked for your protection.". Okay, cool right? An update should solve that.
Problem is, I don't *have* a version of AR that is 9.5.1 or lower. My version is, according to Firefox itself, version 10.1.4.38. So why is it blocked? Updating the version, as advised in other threads on similar issues, does not seem to work. In fact, the Mozilla plugincheck tells me that my version is up-to-date and is fine.
It is very inconvenient to have to open an entirely different browser, like Opera, just to do certain things that I could previously do with Firefox.
I'd also like to voice my overall disapproval on the way many features of Firefox (enabling disabling Javascript, images, certain stylistic features, the add-on bar) have been done away with and users are being told "you can install an add-on to add that functionality back on". It has always been my understanding that the less add-ons installed the better, given that they are apparently the number one problem when it comes to Firefox having issues. Having to disable 5 new add-ons anytime I want to troubleshoot a problem is not convenient, and makes locating the source of various problems more difficult.
I have no idea why Mozilla is so committed to making changes that users hate, and act as if having third-party add-ons to restore functionality is any kind of solution.

    <blockquote>
Firefox 34.0.5 is not doing the blocking as it is due to the blocklist. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/
Adobe Reader '''10.0 to 10.1.5.*''' has been blocked for your protection.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/p158 (Blocked on October 5, 2012)
You were looking at another blocklist page which was https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/p156 posted on same day.
The https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ is not always accurate or reliable (needs to be manually updated) as Adobe has not been keeping the Adobe products versions to check for updated on that page as the recent Flash updates on December 9 has shown.
It is however accurate when it says versions in Plugins panel of Addons Manager is outdated.
There is Adobe Reader 11.0.10 though it seems like Adobe still provides 10.1.4 at http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ yet newer versions are at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows
    </blockquote>
James, why does the Firefox addon page link to the 9.5 "blocked for your protection" page instead of the 10.5 blocked page? Is that a mistake/failure to update on Adobe's part? That seems like something that should be controlled on the Mozilla side, since it has the 10.5 blocked page in existence as well. Should someone be notified that it's giving the wrong page to people?
The adobe update you linked to made it stop saying it's out of date, but what about the Java Development Toolkit? (As pictured in attached image #3). How should I go about getting that up to date?

  • When I launch Firefox, Adobe Update says Reader is out of date, but it is not.

I don't even use the Adobe Reader plugin, since, on a Mac, it doesn't work anyway. I use Firefox PDF Plugin, instead. But, when I launch Firefox, Adobe Update launches and tells me that Adobe Reader is out of date. When I launch Adobe Reader and check for updates, it says that it's up to date. I wouldn't care if it just happened once, but it continues to happen, at least once a day. It's very annoying. How do I get it to stop, since it's wrong, anyway?
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
Firefox 3.6.13 (Adobe Reader plugin not installed)
    Firefox PDF Plugin 1.1.3
    Adobe Reader 10.0.1

There seems to be a SEVERE lack of information on this issue and evidently no one is doing anything about it.
The available info simply leads you in circles.

  • When Firefox opens my MSN homepage is out of date and will not update

When Firefox (v 4) opens my homepage is out of date and will not update to the current date even when reloaded

I'd recommend you delete the URL to your homepage which is causing the problem via Tools | Options | General and then go to the MSN homepage again and click the button "Use Current Page".
MSN may have changed the coding in the URL which is causing Firefox to load an outdated page with your current settings.

  • Why is the newest version of Flash saying that it's out of date?

I downloaded Flash 11.7.700.169 on my MacBook and now I'm getting messages about being out of date. My operating system is Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I'm using Safari 5.1.8 as my browser.  What do I do?  I now cannot access things like The Daily Show.

  • I have updated my Adobe Acrobat plugin three times today but the firefox plugin check says it is out of date, a problem as I repeatedly encounter "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed" when I attempt to download pdfs.

I am attempting to download pdf's from a library search on JSTOR. I can view the pdf but cannot download them as they say "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". I have been to the firefox plugin check and have updated Adobe Acrobat three times in the last hour, but it still says my plugin is not up to date. This leads me to believe that this may be the source of my crash errors.
I updated Adobe Flash from the same firefox plugin check page and after one try it now says I am up to date, so my system is obviously accepting these updates.
    Help!!!!!

The following solution is useful for people who have the full version of Acrobat 9, but are getting the error message "the Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". You probably want the features in the full version of Acrobat, but still need to be able to open PDF files from your Firefox browser.
Go to Tools > Options > Applications. Scroll down and change all of the Adobe Acrobat files to open with Acrobat 9 (or whatever version you have) instead of "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)". This may not be as handy as having it use Acrobat inside the Firefox browser, but it will still let you open PDF files without having to uninstall the full version of Acrobat. Hope this helps.
