I'm also not a stupid kid, but everyone spills at least one thing on their laptop or their computers in their lifetimes.
Everyone? I doubt it. Many of us are careful not to let food or drink near our computers.
The computer still works , and the drink must be dry by now.
Apparently the drink did not get beyond the keyboard, which is good. You have a couple of options:
    1. Use a damp (not wet) cloth to gently wipe around the keys and the trackpad being careful that there is no water seepage. (Simply take your Apple cleaning cloth or similar lint-free cloth, sprinkle a few drops of water on it, rub it together to spread the moisture). Let it dry out completely for at least 30 minutes, then repeat the procedure as often as needed. If this does not remove the residue of juice go to
    2. Replace the entire keyboard. You may be able to find reasonably priced replacements on eBay. (Some people report putting the entire keyboard sans ribbon cable, in the diskwasher then letting it dry out completely. I am not suggesting or recommending procedure unless you are willing to replace the keyboard if it does not work after the procedure).

  • Update data folder in Palm Desktop 6.2.2

I've got an installation of Palm Desktop where my data files are kept in a non-standard location on a different hard drive. This helps keep the important address and datebook stuff separate from my primary file system. Sometimes Palm Desktop loses track of what I'm trying to do and appears to wipe all the data out. Upon closer inspection, I found that it had created a new database on:
    C:\Palm OS Desltop\
naughty naughty , because it should be in My Documents (on a different hard drive, the J:drive) which should be:
    J:\my docs\Palm OS Desktop
You can tell your Palm Desktop to go to the correct place by:
    1. shut down Palm Desktop
    2. shut down the HotSync Manager (right click on the task bar icon and hit 'Exit')
    3. run regedit (start> run> type in "regedit", hit enter
    4. navigate inside regedit to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core
    5. modify the "Path" from "\Palm OS Desktop" to "J:\my docs\Palm OS Desktop", with out the quotes
    6. restart HotSync Manager, run Palm desktop, and you should be good to go.
A little note: the program regedit is not for the feint of heart. You are modifying some pretty obscure, but important, data that the software on your computer uses for behind the scenes stuff. Be very careful when making changes to Registry using regedit. If you screw this up, you could find yourself in a tricky situation.

Hello. I know I'm responding to an old post, but I want to refer to the procedure outlined here.
Before sending my laptop in for repair I removed my Palm Desktop data folder for security reasons. It was in a non-standard place (D:\Palm\Palm Desktop). Now, with my laptop back, I can't get the Desktop or Hotsync to recognize this path. I tried the regedit you suggested, but my path is still not recognized. Desktop creates C:\Users\Bob\Documents\Palm OS Desktop instead.
This is maddening because I know I did this successfully when I bought the machine 3 years ago.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • On Program Start Initial Folder Appears on Desktop ?

Windows 7, i install itunes and run it, i get a my music folder appear on the desktop, inside it has itunes folder, then inside that album artwork folder, itunes media folder and 4 files libary extras, libary genius, libary and music libary.
i cannot seem to move it or delete it as then when i run itunes again it recreates this folder ???

A likley reason for the media folder appearing on the desktop is that it can't be accessed/created where it is supposed to be. This can sometimes happen with libraries that have been migrated from one user or system to another.
Repair Permissions for the iTunes & iTunes Media folders
Right-click on your main iTunes folder (normally in <User's Music> and click Properties,  then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder. Check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced if you're not sure.
Obviously if the media folder is set to the desktop in preferences that would also account for your observations...

  • Boot OSX folder appears on desktop

I randomly have this folder called Boot OSK appear on my desktop. It's won't open and it won't go away unless i restart. anybody know what this is?
    here is a picture

Message was edited by: Steve Szolcsanyi

After much research, I was unable to definitively find the cause of this. The Boot OSX folder is supposed to be created on any bootable volume, but is supposed to be hidden. I was able to reproduce the problem by switching in and out of the account using fast user switching--each time I would switch back there would be more instances of the Boot OSX folder on my desktop. This didn't seem to cause any problems, just annoying. based on other's suggestions, I contacted both SoftRAID and SuperDuper!. Both were helpful but did not have a cure (nor had they seen this particular issue). I am not suggesting that the problem has anything to do with those software products, I was just following up on other's suspicions.
The Cure (for me): Reformat each volume. I know, pain in the rear, but it did work for me. I deleted all partitions, deleted the RAID volumes, then rebuilt all from scratch. YMMV.

  • Strange Folder Appeared on Desktop

It was a folder containing photos (NOT vulgar) of total strangers.  Looked like someone's personal photo folder.  I don't know when it appeared, I think I didn't even notice it for a couple of days.  Then I freaked out and deleted it.  My question is, how the heck did this get on my desktop?  Is this a sign that I've been hacked?

Unexplained yes, but  not a sign you been hacked.
You can always look at the Get Info (command i ) information to see where and when it originated.
If you deleted it then not much chance to sort it out.

  • All of my extensions, and add-ons were deleted overnight. I can't find an old firefox data folder to restore my old profile

Firefox deleted all of my extensions and add-ons overnight. None of the fixes I've found work, I need help restoring my old profile

Did you only lose the extension or did you lose other personal data and settings as well?
You would normally only lose the extensions if you create a new profile folder, either via a reset/refresh or possibly because of problems with the profiles.ini file.
With a reset you would have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.
    </blockquote>
I only lost the extensions. I left the PC on to do a steam download overnight. When I woke up and opened up the browser it was in base mode. All of my tabs, saved data were present. I looked for the Old Firefox Data folder then, but it isn't there.

  • When using restart firefox you get a folder on the desktop called old firefox data i need to know how to use this folder to get my old firefox preferences back

i've recently reformatted my computer and i've taken the old firefox folder from before the reformat and put it on the new one but i dont know how to use it to restore my old settings
by the way im not using a different operating system im running windows 7 like i was previously

Here's my suggested profile resurrection procedure using the old profile folder that's inside the Old Firefox Data folder.
    '''Overview'''
    These are the steps:
    # Create a new Firefox profile
    # Remove everything from that new profile folder
    # Copy in everything from the old profile folder
'''Create a new Firefox profile (Windows)'''
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Note: Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.''
Click the Create Profile button and skip the option to change the folder location. Then select that new profile in the dialog and start Firefox.
'''Open the New Profile folder in Windows Explorer'''
Firefox in the new profile should look like a factory fresh installation. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table, click the "Show Folder" button. Firefox will launch your brand new profile folder in Windows Explorer.
Leaving this folder open, switch back to Firefox, and Exit. This will leave that profile folder open in Windows Explorer.
'''Copy Old Data in Place of New'''
In that new profile folder, select all the contents and delete.
Leaving that window open, open or switch over to your Old Firefox Data folder. Drill down into your old profile folder. At this level you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.
Select everything (Ctrl+a) and Copy (either right-click > Copy or Ctrl+c).
Switch to the empty new profile folder in other window and Paste (either right-click > Paste or Ctrl+v). This may take a minute since some of the files are large.
    '''Start Firefox'''
Firefox should start up in that new profile with the resurrected old profile data. Success?

  • Firefox runs in background (appear in Task Manager Processes Tab) only and does not appear on Desktop

I have been using Firefox on my Desktop PC with Windows XP for a long time. However, today possibly due to some virus (I attached an infected flash drive to my PC) a suspicious change in homepage (www.delta-homes.com) of my firefox occurred. Simultaneously an error message of "WinZip" appeared on screen. I figured that there must be some software in "C:\Program Files\" which is also causing problem to my firefox. I opened Program Files and removed that folder named WinZip. (Tried to uninstall it but it won't happen so I had to use "Unlocker" to kill processes this folder was associated with and then deleted the folder.)
From that point onward, My FireFox started to behave weird. Whenever I click on Firefox icon or access firefox.exe from any source (start menu, quick launch, program files, Run Command), it starts but appears only in "Task Manager Processes Tab". In that Processes Tab, firefox.exe is continuously using 50% of CPU but it does not appear on Desktop at all.
To go a step further, I uninstalled firefox and tried to re-download from Firefox official website but the download fails in the start saying "Download is interrupted". (See attached Image). So I downloaded a previous version of Firefox (v 34.0) from www.filehippo.com and installed it but the same problem is happening with this version too.
I am confused and surprised what might be causing this problem. Everything else on PC running fine. Kindly help me restore my Firefox so that I may not lose any precious Bookmarks, Settings and other Data. thanks

And, what do I do if one of the harddisks on my Mini (2010, SL Server) starts misbehaving?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps and allows to delete the Firefox program folder.

  • Appearance of Desktop - Too many disks shown - GoogleEarth, Firefox, MSN

I have a question regarding the desktop image. I know how to change the background, arrange folders, etc... However, when I open a program up such as Google Earth, MSN Messenger, Firefox, whatever, a hard drive/disk or whatever it is appears. If I put it in the trash can an forget that it is in there when I empty my trash I have to reinstall it, remove it from dashboard, etc...
Is there anyway to avoid this and keep the clean look by hiding these icons???
    Thanks in advance.,

I am guessing that you didn't 'install' those applications properly. The disks that you mentioned showing in the Finder/Desktop are the image files (with extension .dmg) that you downloaded from their corresponding web site, which is the way of how software are packaging in Mac. The way to 'install' the applications is to drag the application from the disk appearing in Finder/Desktop and drop it to your Application folder (appearing in the sidebar of Finder) or other folders that you like. After the application finished copying itself to the Application (or other) folder, you can dismount the disks (in Finder, click the eject icon next to the disk, or in Desktop, Command (or right) click the disk and choose eject). You can remove the disk images (i.e. files with .dmg extension) or back up them, or whatever you like.

  • How do I use Firefox Sync data from my Android phone to restore data to my desktop browser?

I was attempting to cull some history, Firefox became non-responsive and had to be force closed. When it was re-opened, all my tabs which are typically restored were missing and I did not have the option to restore the session. According to sync on my Android, the last update there was about an hour ago, which would have been before issue with the desktop browser. How can I restore my info from my phone, ensuring it is not overwritten by the lack of data now on my desktop version?

    HI Snickers,
There is an option to sync tabs. About:sync-tabs works on the desktop and can see the tabs from that device however this feature is not available for the mobile device. However from an active sync the current sessions are visible from the desktop page.
In order to restore a session you may be able to restore the session if it crashed. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1026370#answer-644109 With these instructions]

  • TS3230 Why aren't Google and Yahoo loading in Safari with Maverics?  After several failed attempts, a "wireless diagnostics" zipped folder appeared on my desktop.  I'm using a macbook pro with OSX 10.9.2

I updated to Maverics and now yahoo and google do not load in Safari - i get a "connot connect to server" warning.  other websites load just fine.
Also, after several attempts to access the aforementioned sites, a zipped file/folder appeared on my desktop titled "WirelessDiagnostics"
What in the world is going on here?  I attached a screenshot of the zip file.

Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    www.google.com
    Launch the Network Utility application.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
    Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.
