  • Firefox update page keeps opening in a new tab every time I open Firefox. How do I stop this?

    Every time I open up Firefox, the update checking window opens first, then I get 2 tabs that open. One is my home page, the other is the page that opens after a new version of Firefox is installed. How can I get the Firefox update page to stop opening? I had the same thing happen with the "Download Helper" add-on. The only way I could get it to stop was to disable it. I am running windows 7 and Firefox 9.

  • I do not want the Firefox update page to load. I want only the Home page to load.

    When i first access the internet through Firefox, I get both the Firefox update page and my
    requested Home page. I am unable to only get the Homepage even though this is the
    setting in my control panel.
    Basically i am getting two tabs at startup and only want the one.

    [[Firefox says it's just updated every time it starts - how to fix]]

  • Can you fix , the fact that If you leave the firefox update window open for a long period (say 20 minutes in the background), then close all other windowns, then choose to install, it uses this extra time to estimate the download?

    Can you fix , the fact that If you leave the firefox UPDATE window open for a long period (say 20 minutes in the background), then close all other windows, then choose to download update, it uses this extra time to estimate the download? (Mine said, 12 Hours to start with, but took under 2 minutes!)
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == When you install update to 3.6.4 (Possibly for every update?)

    The download should happen in the background (before you get an update window). I wonder why that didn't happen for you...\
    Did you manually check for updates?

  • I upgraded from 3.6.13 to Beta 4.0 and now Firefox will not open at all I tried to uninstall to start again but it will not uninstall either it does nothing.

    I uninstalled Beta 4 and re-installed 3.6.13 now Firefox will not open at all I tried to uninstall to start again but it will not uninstall either it does nothing, I have been using Firefox for a long time but cannot resolve this problem can anyone help and give me a solution please. As I use Firefox as my web browser it is very frustrating.
    The fact it will not uninstall appears to be something completely new as nobody I know who uses Firefox has ever encountered this in the past.

    Did you check your security software (firewall)?
    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • After Firefox update, pages are redirected whenever I type a letter or try to enter url, different redirects based on letter I type. Opens a windows explorer window, goes to original login, opens Start/Run window with cmd in box etc.

    Please send some advice if you have any ideas of how to solve this issue.
    The info that is shown about my computer is not accurate. The machine with the problems below is running 64 bit Vista but I cannot access a site like this one due to the constraints listed below.
    I fell for what I thought was a Firefox update but since installing it, when entering a URL, I am redirected back to original computer log in / password entry box. If I use my browser window drop down list I can get into something like Facebook and move around but as soon as I try to type any letter into a 'comment' box, I am redirected to both a Windows Explorer type page showing my various drives and another Window from my Start/Run with the dialog box open with cmd entered in it already. Certain typed letters don't show up at all when trying to enter a 'comment' on Facebook while various letters get various different responses. It is impossible to enter any URL or use my browser other than the items in my drop down. Once there, say to my bank account, I cannot enter any password as I am immediately redirected to someplace else upon trying to type a letter or character. I don't know how to get my browser working. I have tried IE as well and the same thing happens. All started after the supposed upgrade of Firefox. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Getting rid of Firefox update page

    Does anyone know how to get rid of the "thanks for updating" page that opens on the first tab in firefox after it's been updated? We have a guest account that refreshes the home directory upon login (this is prior to the 10.6 guest account that's being offered now). I'm trying to blast out the FF update to my lab stations and the guest account keeps on opening up with the FF update page because it doesn't save state from the previous user who logged in. Is there a pref file that i can edit to get rid of that page or some other file i can edit? I definitely need to maintain all the other prefs (eg. bookmarks etc.)
    Thanks!

    I guess I should have been more clear about the idiosyncrasies of our setup since it's not that easy. Our "Guest" login account is almost like a kiosk account in that it's based off of a custom default user template that has all the prefs and bookmarks etc. stored so that even though the account gets wiped out upon every login, so as to create a fresh experience for each subsequent user, the experience is always consistent. We used Mike Bombich's script from years past & as per his description: This script removes a default user home directory and replaces it with a fresh copy from a template.
    Thus, I COULD edit & save the FFOX prefs so as to get rid of the FFox "Thanks for updating homepage tab" BUT that would require me to update all the user template files associated in FFOX's profile stored in ~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/* on every station in the labs.
    I would much rather, on a granular lever, know exactly which file and which line of code I need to edit and, en masse, send a batch unix cmd to all the lab stations to update that particular file.
    Any ideas on this? I'm sure someone knows the answer to this. Hope I've cleared up my requirements too.
    Tx!

  • Received this when opening a link About:blank URL scheme what is it?

    This screen popped up and said this.
    I was reading an e-mail from a restaurant/bed and breakfast and it had a link to the Port Stanley Theatre. I clicked on it and this came up, I re-loaded the e-mail and clicked on again and once again I got this. Third time it brought me to the site as if nothing previously had happened.
    This is a first. Is there anything I should be concerned about and if so what do I need to do.
    Thank you.

    This is happening to me, as well, on Mac OS X 10.6.8, but only since I upgraded to the latest version of Firefox, 32.0.1. I can click an HTTP link in another application and Firefox will become the active application, but it will not load a new tab for the link, as expected. Instead, it just sits there. I have to go back to the other application and click the link a second time, at which point Firefox will correctly open a new tab and load the destination URL.

  • Everytime i start firefox it takes me to the "firefox updated" page in a new tab everytime,how do i stop this? its never done it before in 2 years

    as the header says
    firefox updates and takes me to the update landing page everytime i start firefox, i have tried 5.0 and 3.6 it does it with both and never happened before i installed 5.0 for the 1st time
    its getting annoying

    Is your homepage getting changed to the same URL every time you open Firefox?
    What's happening sure sounds like you picked up some Malware, , that you may not be aware of, along with a homepage changer of some type.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Firefox 4 beta opens instead of 3.6.13 - why?

    UPDATE
    I updated to 4.0b10, and apparent behaviour changed (I don't think it was doing this before, but I can't be 100% certain):
    Both 3.6 and 4 Beta will now open correctly, provided that neither is already running.
    If either is already running, then an attempt to open the other will instead open a second instance of the one already running.
    ORIGINAL PROBLEM
    I have been running 3.6.13 for a some time. Two days ago I installed 4.0b9 alongside, and at first I could use either or both.
    However, now when I try to open 3.6, it appears that 4 is opening instead.
    Looking at /program files (x86) / mozilla firefox/firefox .exe, the file properties still say that it is 3.6.13, and the file size is 891kb, whereas
    /program files (x86) / mozilla firefox 4 beta 9/firefox .exe shows 903kb.
    However, when I double click the 3.6 executable, it appears that the 4 beta browser opens.

    If the add/remove programs option did not work, you can manually remove any versions that you no longer want. For details of how to remove them see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
    Typically, you just need to delete the installation directory to remove Firefox. user data and settings are stored in the [[profiles|profile folder]], so will not be touched when you delete the other versions of Firefox.

  • Every time I open a new Safari page, it loads the one(s) that are already open, instead of taking me to a new start page.

    Every time I open a new Safari page on my MacBook Pro, it load the one(s) that are already open, instead of a new page. it's 8.0.2.  I already went to Preferences and it says new page will open to Favorites....but it doesn't.

    Hello beany1818,
    Also check in Safari Preferences and look in the Safari Opens with and make sure that it is set to “with a new window” and not “all the windows from your last session”. Take a look at the article for more information.

  • I installed and reinstalled Firefox 4.01 several times, but when I open it, Firefox 3.6 opens instead.

    I downloaded and installed Firefox 4.01. I even uninstalled Firefox 3.6 and reinstalled 4.01. When I click the finish button 4.01 opens, but once I close the browser and then open it from my start menu or desktop icon 3.6 opens instead. What's the problem?

    What makes you think that you don't have Firefox 4.0.1 installed? <br />
