Firefox used to open to the same tabs that were open when I closed it. Now it just opens to a search page. I want it to poen to the same tabs again.

I typically run with the same six tabs open in Firefox. Until the day before yesterday, if I closed Firefox with these six tabs open, the next time I opened the browser, the same six tabs would open in the exact same order. That ended yesterday. Now when I close the browser, regardless of what may be open, the next time I open it, it merely opens to a single search page. Also, F1 isn't working for Help.

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Zoom -> click "Reset" -> Page Style -> select "Basic Page Style"
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''Time range to clear: select EVERYTHING''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies, Cache''' -> click "Clear Now"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

I updated Firefox and now it will not open at all. The hourglass shows that it's working but then nothing. I went to add/remove and removed mozilla and reinstalled it and still the same thing. It worked fine before I updated. Now I can't even remove the program at all. Why is this happening?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Once Firefox crashes & restarts, homepage opens (not tabs that were open prior to crash) even though "tabs from last time" is selected for when Firefox starts.

When Firefox crashes and subsequently restarts, the tabs that were open are not restored. I do not get the "well, this is embarrassing" dialogue box that gives me the option to restore tabs. When restarting, Firefox just gives me my home page. This happens even though I have selected under options for Firefox to open previous windows & tabs upon start up.

Hopefully you still can use History > Restore Previous Session to get back to where you were.
To restore the regular behavior of resuming your previous session after a crash, you probably need to change one of your preferences back to its default value.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash''' to switch its value from false to true.
If you prefer to always get the "this is embarrassing" screen rather than having Firefox re-open all the windows and tabs immediately, also change this preference:
    (4) Double-click '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' and change the value from 1 to 0.
Hope that helps in the unfortunate event that you have a crash!

  • Firefox always opens all tabs that were opened when last closed

Firefox, out of the blue, started to always show my tabs from the last session when it is started. I checked that Firefox not listed in the task manager list after closing. So I tried the following:
    - changing the option "when Firefox starts" to all three of the available choices
    - change the browser.startup.page setting to 0 manually via "About:config"
    - starting Firefox in safe mode.
None of these changed the behavior. It still opens the tabs that were last opened.
I am running V25.0. Any suggestions? This is a major annoyance.

    Hello,
Please make sure that you have not activated Firefox's restore tabs feature. See the article here:
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-previous-session#w_configuring-session-restore Configuring session restore]
If it is enabled then you can disable it by following the instructions in that article.
I hope that helps. Let me know if not.
EDIT: sorry I linked to the wrong article. Fixed now.

  • How can I get Safari 5.1 to open without opening all the tabs that were open when i last quit safari?

When I lauch Safari (5.1 in 10.7) I want it to open to either an empty page or a designated homepage - but istead it opens all the tabs that were open when I quit Safari.  How do i stop this, I cant find any preference to achieve this and see nothing in help.  Any help?

Hi James - Thanks for the info!  This has been bugging me, too.  I'm going to uncheck the Restore Windows box.  Agree with you that it should be app specific, tho.  I like opening to the last page I was working on in pages and numbers.  Hope it doesn't change that!

  • Safari reopens to the the most recent website or tabs that were open when closed.

I just updated to Lion and have Safari 5.1. When I quit Safari either by hitting Command + Q or from Safari > Quit Safari, then either right after or later on go to open it back up it loads the last recent web page(s) (any tabs that were open as well) and not the homepage. If I just close just the window then open it back up it will go to the homepage. It is almost like it is recovering from a crash or something, but it has never done this before. Is there an option to change this? Any suggestions?

  • Norton Internet Security cannot scan emails the use SSL. How do I insure that I do not get a virus or malware by opening an email in Thunderbird?

Norton Internet Security cannot scan emails the use SSL. How do I insure that I do not get a virus or malware by opening an email in Thunderbird? I have read that you don't have to click on a link to get malware but that some email can trigger malware just by opening and reading. Any suggestions to keep my emails from triggering malware? AOL Desktop software has it's own built-in email scanner but I'm trying to get away from using their software and rely just on TB.
    Thanks

There are many aspects to this question.
First, using SSL or TLS to send and receive email is important because it prevents others from sniffing your email login. Particularly if you are using a device over wi-fi or on untrusted networks, this is critical because if others obtain your email login, bad things can happen.
Of course, using SSL or TLS with your mail server also protects the content of your email from being captured by others, so that's good too.
Second, you are correct that there can be security threats in email other than the attachments, although the attachments generally are the most dangerous. Your antivirus should protect you from bad attachments because in order to open them, they need to be written to disk in a temporary folder, and your AV software leaps into action whenever a new file is added to disk. You also can hedge your bets by using a two-step approach: first save the attachment to disk and only after it survives the real-time AV scan then launch it in the appropriate application.
Sometimes content in the message body can trigger a vulnerability in your email software or a plugin. As these vulnerabilities become known, Mozilla updates its software, but there seem to always be new issues discovered and there will never be perfect security. I'm not sure how helpful email scanning is for this problem.

  • How can I make my computer restart with all the same windows that were open when a shut it down?

How can I make my computer restart with all the same windows that were open when a shut it down?

That is the way Mac OS X 10.8 (aka Mountain Lion) works by default. Are you actually running that system? (See About This Mac in the Apple menu.) If so, make sure the check box in the shut down alert is checked:

  • OK... so now I can pin a tab so it will always be there... so what the heck happen to all my tabs that were pinned? Worked fine for awhile so now what...???????

OK... so now I can pin a tab so it will always be there... so what the heck happen to all my tabs that were pinned? Worked fine for awhile so now what...???????

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

    * [2] http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
    * [3] http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox
It is also possible to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox/Tools > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

  • In the previous version of FF I could type a term in the address bar and it would auto open that website, now it just performs a google search. Is that a setting I can adjust or is it not available anymore?

In the previous version of FF I could type a term in the address bar and it would auto open that website, now it just performs a google search. Is that a setting I can adjust or is it not available anymore?

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below

If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name

I am not able to use the ftp export in Muse. When I enter my host, name and password, I get a long interlude of rainbow wheel and finally the message that my ftp host cannot be found. I have verified the name and that it is port 21. I can export to html and use another ftp client to upload (to the same server) but this is tedious and making minor changes is painful. Have you encountered this and found a solution?

    Hi Susan,
In that case I will recommend that you consult a local technician/IT team and see if there is some network connectivity issue with your machine.

I would recommend you use a program called senuti that allows you to copy your songs over to a new computer from an iPod. Unfortunatlly you have to pay for the full version but it allows you to have 1000 free song capacity of copying over and a movie counts as the capacity of 1 song.

Whenever I try to open an app on my Mac it just bounces on my dock and then settles. At first it bounced the disappeared, and then I had to reinstall it, but now it just bounces. Any help?

Try one or more of the following:
    > Restart Your Computer
    > Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
    > Reset iPod (nothing will get deleted)
    > Look in My Computer (Windows 98, XP) OR Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if your iPod is in there.
In some cases (and this happened to me before) plug your iPod in and out your computer a few times. It should get it going. If not, then I strongly recommend starting your computer.
