Firefox uses full internet even when no tab is active

Hello,
From the past few days I have seen a unusual activity in firefox 5. I have bit defender antivirus which has firewall included in it which shows the activity of each application and helps to create firewall rules for each and every application. Firefox behaves normal and uses the net speed for the webpages until I check any online videos. The firewall shows me that firefox is accessing my full net speed even after I close the online video streaming. When I block the firefox in firewall no net usage is seen. Then I have to restart firefox so that I can use it with out effecting the other tabs or else the other tabs never load after I watch the online video and even after closing that particular tab.
Please tell me what should I do?

All plugins disabled in safe mode, still no luck...

Safari Web Content - Constantly using CPU time even when no tabs

I have a MacBook Pro Retina (2012), with 16GB of RAM. It is running OSX Mavericks (10.9.4). Recently, I have switched from using it with multiple external monitors, to using it on its own. Here, I have noticed unusually raised usage temperatures - even without any applications (other than Safari) running. Looking at Activity Monitor, it seems Safari Web Content (com.apple.WebKit.WebContent) is constantly using one of my CPUs. Whilst it does not affect the speed of the computer much, it does mean that "idle" temperatures are significantly raised, which is a pain when I am using it on the road.
I have done the following, all of which have not succeeded:
Disabled all Safari extensions
Cleared the cache
Closed all tabs
Sampled the process - unsure of what the output of this means, but if you require it, then I can post it here.
I am unsure what else to try. Currently, the only action that resolves the issue is completely quitting Safari - obviously, this isn't something I can really do for normal usage.
Has anybody come across this before? Is there anything more I can do to investigate the issue? Finally, is there a known fix for this problem?

Do you have any of the following installed:
anti-virus/internet security software?
"Cleaning" or "tuning" software?
third-party backup software (not Apple's Time Machine) that came bundled with an external hard drive?
online backup software (Carbonite, OneDrive, GoogleDrive)?
Also please do "About Safari" from your Safari menu so we can verify your version. On July 11, Apple inadvertently posted a Seed release of a Safari version still under development for the next OSX version. People who had updates set to "automatic" got the "not ready for prime time" version. If you have Safari 7.1, you were "gifted" with that little bag of post-processed cattle feed.

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning your files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Firefox uses too much cache when commenting in Facebook. I wrote a comment up to 1000 characters and my PC crawled. I had to wait several times for the text to catch up with my typing. I cleared caches after entering my comment and it freed up 45MB of RAM from the firefox.exe process in Windows Task Manager. Why does Firefox use 45MB when the text is only 1kB?
Another time the firefox.exe process began at 88MB and went up to 250MB whilst writing a comment, reducing to 170MB afterwards. Firefox hogs the CPU too (I tried the CPU hogging tips but none was the solution to this), but the memory usage is the issue because the CPU would not be hogged if less data was being moved or cached.
I accept some slowness on an old 1.2GHz 512MB PC but the facebook issue is much worse than other sites.

The newest version of flash Plugin only works with Opera 9.5 beta. If you want to use flash with the stable Opera find an older version of the flash plug in.
Thanks for the hint, will keep that in mind in the case I will switch to Opera again (used it for a while because Firefox2 scrolling was bad, with 3 it is much better). Besides, there is a new flash version in the repos.

i have I-phone 4S and whenever i turn the cellular data on it start using the internet even if i'm not using the telephone, i even disable all the service that might take from the internet like location and notifications but still i have the same problem with my phone.i have a meter that tells how much of mb i used per month and it gives the reading per dy as well. when i turn the cellular data onand i check the software it shows that each minutes it's deducting 1KB
also. i have another problem with the MMS service as i can't send photos from my phone as a message

The phone is an Internet phone. If you don't want to use any Internet don't use an iPhone. There are a number of built in apps that use data periodically, plus a number of system functions. The number of possibilities is in the hundreds, so finding what is using an occasional kb is close to impossible. Weather, Stocks, Push email, Fetch email, App Store, iTunes Store, Genius, iCloud, Find my iPhone, Photo Stream, Game Center, Reminders, Settings/Location Services/System Services. And that's just the built in apps. Then any app you install has the capability of using data in background.

Our database Instance Using Swap Space even When There is Plenty of Free RAM.
We have 80GB of physical RAM, 32GB is set to oracle SGA_MAX_SIZE
memory parameters:

but still oracle is taking memory from swap even though we have enough physical memory.

We have one more box where same setup was configured in solaris platform but there the above memory parameters are not disabled but it is not using swap space it takes memry only from physical RAM
Can any one throw some lights on this issue. It wopuld be great if I come to know where the exact problem

I didn't say I am not using 11gr2 memory parameters I am using all the automatic memory parameters but the thinks is as per the metalink note I tried by disabling the automatic memory parameters. but that didn't help me in preventing unnecessary swap usage. So I reverted. now it is using automatic memory parameters.
so What is the solution for this?

   It is my understanding that any memory not used by the Linux OS itself or the SAP application is available for Linux to use for I/O buffers and file caching. When the SAP application requires more memory I would expect Linux to take memory away from itself (release I/O buffer and/or file caching memory).
   We have observed that SAP uses swap space even when there is memory available. Is there some feature in SAP kernel or some ABAP construct that causes SAP to prefer swap space over available memory? Or maybe there is a Linux kernel setting that influences SAP's use of swapping.

You did not mention which distribution you have. Under SLES there is is a parameter called SWAPPINESS, which controls the buffering/swapping.
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
If you don't already know, you can see the memory usage with the free command.

As far as i know, in this example 3274 is memory used by SAP and other processes and 4712 is cache. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Edit: a low swappines, for example 10 means to reduce cache first, a high swappiness (example 100) means page out processes first

I have recently upgraded to Firefox 5.0. I am now unable to use full screen mode when watching you tube. i've never had this problem before.

i can't think of anything else to add. i've always been able to use full screen mode in firefox, it still works on vimeo and it still works on NEtflix..

What happens when you try to use full screen mode -- button is ineffective, video doesn't display, etc.?
By the way, Adobe has issued a couple of security updates recently, so you might want to update your Flash plugin.

My flat screen won't connect to the internet, even when I use the cord from my working iMac.

I have an old dome base flat screen running Tiger and a newer intel iMac running Snow Leopard. My newer model connects to the internet just fine and my old one did too, until recently. Both work off the same Comcast modem and one will connect and the old one won't, even when I take the cord from the new one and plug it into the old. I think what happened is I had Hide My *** Proxy running and for some reason it won't let me get on line with it running, although it used to so I don't know what the deal with that is. On my other computer I can get on line with it running. Anyway, after I quit HMA I could get on line. Thanks for your reply. By the way, my other computer is not connected to a hub, but to the Comcast modem/wireless device that my other computer is connected to.

Macbook Pro cannot connect to the internet even when others can

Hi! Please help me. We have an internet WIFI connection in our office but only my MacBook Pro cannot connect even when I entered the correct password. My Iphone and Ipad work just fine. It says "connection timeout" but all other laptops can connect. I tried network diagnostics already and it always say "connection timeout". I dont know what to do anymore.

Yes, and when I open the Network Utility it shows a working IP address, and a 54Mb/s speed from the wireless router. It even shows the shared computers from my roomates. But when I try to access the internet it does not load anything on Safari or Firefox ( or any other internet application for that matter). It is completely unconnected. YET, As soon as I activate the AirPort card on the top right where I have my signal strength, it shows on the Network Utility information that there are 'packages' being sent and received, and I have NO programs open what so ever, I have closed everything except finder and network utility... Does this mean I am being hacked, or have some sort of Trojan or something in my computer? I ran an antivirus that my school provided, called Virex by McAfee, it came out clean except it says it cannot read one file.
I tried repairing my disk, and that did not work either. I did the Ram reset like you suggested, but that also did not work. I doubt it being a hardware error. I am going to try to connect it to an ethernet cable to see if that will work. Then I will let you know what happens with that, but that would still not be a solution since I need it wireless, cause the router is in another part of the house.
