If I make IE my default browser I am able to get (and keep) those icons as shortcuts on my desktop without a problem.
I want to keep Firefox as my default browser.
So I want to know how to make Firefox accept the icon that comes from the website like IE does.
I have even gone to the trouble to use IE to create the shortcuts with the site specific icons.....but after I do that...... FIREFOX CONVERTS THEM TO THE FIREFOX DEFAULT ICON as soon as I re-boot or refresh my desktop.
I generally prefer Firefox as a browser....but If there's no fix.....I'm going to dump Firefox.

Like others, I have recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to the next generation and migrated all my information from old to new. Everything works seamlessly EXCEPT Acrobat. Photoshop, Indesign, Bridge and Lightroom all seem functional. Acrobat hangs with an error message "Suite Product Activation Needed. Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Acrobat, please start another element of the suite (such as Photoshop)." Needless to say, starting another element of the suite has NO impact on Acrobat.
This has to be a common problem. Now that Apple has made it really easy to migrate information from old to new machines, it has to come up all the time. What surprises me greatly is that I can't find any coherent answer in these forums.
So how do I get Acrobat running again?

I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9.5.5. I do not remember whether it came with Photoshop or InDesign.
When I open Photoshop, it opens without my having to follow any instructions to activate the software. As a matter of fact, I cannot find my Photoshop serial number anywhere in the Photoshop program itself. I do know it from my profile at Adobe.com. Are you suggesting I deactivate Photoshop on the new computer and then reactivate it using my serial number? Will it reactivate?

what do you mean? I do not have a startup disk. I have the original installation disk but that version of Photoshop has been updated a few times.
After staring at your instructions for a while, I realized that you might be talking about the Library/Application Support folders resident on my Macintosh HD, although why you called it a startup disk is unclear to me. IAC, I went into those folders and duly moved the three folders into a new folder I called “Acrob1” and restarted Adobe Acrobat 9 and got the following error message: “AMT Subsystem Failure The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall of call customer support.” with a small (6).
By undoing my actions I am back to the staus quo ante.
Now what?

Latest Firefox uses THREE TIMES as much RAM as Firefox 3.6, and is slower to boot.

My laptop has limited RAM - about 2GB. Of the browsers I've tried (Chrome, Safari, Firefox), Firefox uses the least RAM, but it still uses around 1GB of RAM to display about 10 tabs (gmail, facebook, reader, and assorted other websites) - this seems insanely high.
Thinking back, this didn't seem to be a problem "back in the day", so to speak, so I tried installing Firefox 3.6 again.
Lo and behold, with the same addons and the same tabs open, Firefox 3.6 is using 300MB of RAM where Firefox 21 used 980MB of RAM. In addition, navigation is noticeably snappier in Firefox 3.6 - probably because it doesn't have to page to disk as often (which would often lock up my computer using Firefox 21).
I thought that newer versions were supposed to improve memory performance, not triple the required memory...

Hmmm, I don't find that number of tabs has much effect. For example, at the moment, I have gmail, facebook, and google reader open. 600MB.
Searched a random word on Google, opened the first ten links (a mix of wikipedia, imdb, apple trailers, youtube, etc). 660MB. So quadrupling the number of tabs led to a 10% increase in memory usage... Which is fine. 6MB, on average, for a tab seems pretty reasonable to me.
It's the baseline usage that's high.

Wait for 1 minute, the application is not still be started.
I have check the loaded class names printed by JVM "-verbose" parameter, MyApp class has not been loaded, all loaded classes are loaded from rt.jar. No any exception is reported.
After more than 2 minutes, the MyApp class is loaded. Then, my application is started very quickly( in 10 seconds).
After check again the classpath parameters, I find "c:\path1" is not exsited in local host. I remove it from classpath, the problem is resovled.
I am confused that an error path in "-classpath" parameter list can cause application is start so slowly. I also execute the command in other 4 PCs, it works quickly on 3 PC but slowly on 1 PC.

How can I find out which task the time is wasted on? ( I have try to open remote debug port and attach on it to debug, but failed. Because the JVM has not been completely started at that time, jdb can not attach the JVM. )

I doubt that such a nonexisting path in classpath does any harm - I tested it. We have on some computers very slow startups of the JVM and the reason is the virus scanner. On some systems, the virus scanner runs with default configuration, meaning: scan everything, including ZIP archives, JAR archives, etc. and this is very expensive as the virus scanner also dearchive each JAR file to inspect the files in the archive. After removing the *.zip, *.jar files from the virus scanning list (at least in defined paths with known JAR files), the startup went down from 1-2 minutes to just a few seconds.

ICICI Bank site throws up blank page upon login in Firefox (all versions) and other browsers on my computer, but works normally on some other computers

Till a few days back, ICICI net-banking site was opening up normally on both my systems (Windows XP SP3 and FreeBSD-10.1-i386). Since 18 December, the site throws up a blank page after the login credentials are entered. The site opens up normally on Firefox-34 on a computer system that belongs to a friend of mine. On my systems, reinstalling/upgrading Firefox does not help : I continue to get a blank page. The site URL is :

Safe mode does not help. Even disabling all plug-ins and themes has no effect, just as clearing out cache and temporary files proved ineffective. Deleting profiles too did not help.
The site opens on FF-34 on my friend's computer (XP SP2) but does not open on FF (any version, including the same build as the one used on the friend's computer) or even Opera 26.0/Internet Explorer 8 on my system. IE gives the following diagnostics :

IPad 2 with iOS 6 spontaneously closes apps in the middle of using them. Some wont even open they start working and then close immediately. How can I fix this?

After uploading new iOS 6 my iPad 2 randomly quits apps in the middle of using them and sometimes won't even open apps. What can I do to fix this?

1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
2. Hold the Apps in Task Bar down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
3. Tap the minus sign to close Apps
4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen

After Updating to Firefox 4.0, many of my regularly visited websites now load very slowly or Firefox stops responding and does finish loading the website.

Typically, the splash page will lode partially but as soon as it starts to transfer data from ad related sites (ie doubleclick) , Firefox seems to stop working and when I when I try to close the site, I get a FireFox - Program is Not Responding message. I tell the computer to End Program and it takes 3-4 minutes for Firefox to close> When I then reopen Firefox, I get a message saying (This is Embarrasing_ we couldn't find some of your tabs. Why do pages load very slowly when using a proxy in Win 7?

Whenever I try to use a proxy server,it will work okay a couple of times. Then after that pages will start loading very slowly,so that I find that I have to uninstall the proxy program.I am using Win7 Ultimate,a netgear router, and high speed internet "10Mbps"..I have tried different proxy hiders and they all do the same thing.Can anyone help?????????????

I use aol mail, and I want to change my mailto: to aol. Firefox won't let me do that. When I click on an email link in a webpage, my computer goes nuts.

When I click on an email link on a webpage, my computer goes crazy. (Please note that links to other websites are fine.) My computer seems to want to link me to Internet Explorer, which I don't use often. The computer starts running very fast and hot. Sometimes, I get a multitude of identical error messages from Explorer, and it is often hard to delete them!
I thought maybe I could solve this by changing my mailto: client, but there is no link for Aol. Please help!

I tried to follow the website instructions of
Tools -> Options -> Content / File Types -> Manage
but once I get to Content I am stuck. No Manage button. (there is nothing that says File Types)

The system is running slowly because FileVault is in the process of being deactivated. It was about 85% done when you posted your question. Watch the "Conversion progress" line to make sure it hasn't stalled.

Install Oracle DB as service that should be started manually

I have laptop computer (Windows Business Vista) with small main disk space and I would like to install Oracle DB on removable HDD (I have already many programms installed there; RAM is sufficienly large to accomodate them) and my plan is to install Oracle database 11g on HDD as service that should be started manually. Are there any installation options to do this in the right way or are there any configuration options that should be tuned after installation, is there stardad way recommended by Oracle how to do this?
I know that after installation I can configure any Windows service one by one (including OracleServiceXXX, OracleDBConsoleXXX, ...JobSceduler, ...TNSListener, etc.) that they should be started only manually, but is there any procedure recommded by Oracle how to do this? E.g. maybe I can miss some service that should be configured and so on.
And maybe the similar procedure is available of application servers and services of SOA Suite as well?
And when I will have Oracle installation with manual startup-shutdown configuration - how should I start and shutdown database. I am reading http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/start.htm and it says that I should issue only SQL statements for this - but as I understand - there should be some scripts that should be executed before those statements - at least - for startup of TNSListener. Is there some *.bat file suppled by Oracle for this?

You can make installation to on your external HDD. If you want to service should be start manualy than you need to open services.msc and on related service > right click >properties >> startup type "manuel"
