Firefox v15.0.1 Back button disappears

I'm having trouble whenever I left-click a link in a webpage, the link opens in the same tab, but then the back button is grayed out and unavailable. I tried backing up my bookmarks and then created an entirely new profile, restored my bookmarks. Still having the same problem using the new profile. I tried "Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the Profile Folder to test if the file is corrupted." and it does not help. Below is one of the pages:
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/power-players-abc-news/romney-path-270-no-margin-error-112835568.html
Scroll down to the Explore Related Content section and left-click the following link:
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/power-players-abc-news/romney-path-270-no-margin-error-112835568.html
which opens the link in the same tab, and the back button becomes grayed out and unavailable. I only started having this problem after upgrading to Firefox v15.0.1 from Firefox 12.x.x. This problem happens often with many websites whenever I left-click a link, but not every website I go to.
This problem also occurs exactly the same using a different, older computer (2.8 Ghz processor, 1 Gb RAM) and running Windows XP Pro and Firefox 15.0.1.

Follow up: Deleting my places.sqlite file semi-fixed it. The back button appeared after clicking the second video link, but it brings me back here instead of to the main Yahoo page.

I noticed you have ''Freeze (dot) com Net Assistant'' installed. This is considered by most security software to be malware since it changes your user preferences and feeds you ads. See http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.freeze.com
Also, this Wikipedia article contains some info about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W3i#History
You should be able to remove it by going to Add-ons, then Extensions. If it's not there, then the free edition of Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free should be able to get rid of it for you.
There are some screenshots of how you probably got it on your system here: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/malware/?Adware.Win32.Freeze.com+Toolbar
(no need to purchase the software to remove it because as mentioned already, Malwarebytes should be able to get rid of it for you).

  • In the new Firefox, I have no back button, no "most frequently visited" and there is no longer an option to save tabs when I close.

Many features have disappeared. There is no back button to go to the previous page. There is no "most frequently visited" icon on the toolbar. I am not asked if I want to save all my tabs when I close firefox. There is no recently bookmarked tab on the toolbar. Everything takes longer to get to. The tabs don't automatically stay open.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
Do you still have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible?
    * [[Restore the default Smart Bookmarks Folders]]
Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
Make sure that you have the Bookmarks Toolbar and the Navigation Toolbar visible: "View > Toolbars"
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
    * Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • Before the recent updates to Firefox, clicking on the back button always brought me back to the same place on the page where I had been, but now it brings me to the top of the page. How do I restore the previous feature?

Before the recent updates to Firefox, when I would go to another page in the same window and then clickon the back button, Firefox used to bring me back to the same place on the page where I had been, but now it brings me to the top of the page, meaning that I have to laboriously scroll down to the old place. How do I restore the previous feature?

That change was made in Firefox 4, 6 months ago.
    Click-hold the unified Back / Forward button <br />
    or <br />
right-click it to get the Back / Forward history for that tab.
Or install this extension to get the old "drop-marker" button restored. <br />

  • My Firefox browser is gone! My opening page is Yahoo but there is no browser for firefox, not even a 'back' button. What happened?

I am not sure how it happened but my browser is gone. I have just my Yahoo page (home page). I cannot type in a website address. Not even a back button.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).

  • Firefox Tabs and the Back Button

I open a page (such as a Google search) in the first tab. I select any entry. When I press the BACK button, the browser (correctly) returns to the Google selection list. If I do the same in any other tab (2 thru nn), the Back button does not return me to the list. Does anyone else experience this? Bug? Feature? I've checked my add-ons, to no avail. This happens in both 3.6 and 4.0, and is not solely related to Google. (And this works OK in IE8.)

  • My back button disappeared last week. cannot go back to the last page

my back button dissapeared last week, cannot go back to the last page

My "return to previous page" arrow button sometimes works and sometimes is greyed and doesn't work. Doesn't seem to be any reason or rhyme to it. I'm newly upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard and it is very frustrating to have to punch out of Safari and start the web search over and over again, especially when you don't know if the "return to previous" button is going to work or not. Have pulled in a fresh forward/backward button bar from the custom toolbar sets, but that didn't fix it. Very aggravating and time consuming.

  • My pull down menu above the green "back" button disappeared recenly after I intalled an update. How to I get it back so I can print since right clicking does not give me a print option?

I used to have a tool bar at the top of the screen that had file, print, help, etc. After I recently installed something ( I can't remember what), the tool bar no longer appears. Help I need it back! I need to print screens and right clicking does not allow for a print option and my print screen button on my computer does not get me anywhere either. Please describe any help in simple terms - I'm just an average computer user! Thanks.

In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

I am having an issue with SpryHorizontal Menus in Firefox when using the back button.  Even did a tutorial with Lynda.com and found their solution file had the same issue.  Would anyone who has had success with 3 levels of submenus care to share a snippet of their code as I cannot find the error and outside help hasn't quite resolved the issue.

    Hi Beth,
Just an FYI.  Also received another nice piece of information to store in the SpryAssets help file from an online Adobe Certified Course Director:
Thanks for your email! It isn’t often I get a great question like that. I had to do some digging, but I came up with a solution. You might have already worked your way through it, but if not the problem is Firefox’s (and Opera’s) caching that’s causing the issue in question. To fix it, you have to reset the submenu dynamic class names when the user clicks the link (re-caching the page is a bad idea).
This is a pretty simple javascript fix. The problem was so interesting that I posted the fix to my blog. You can check out the solution here: http://www.simpleprimate.com/?p=30 if you haven’t already figured it out.

  • The back button doesn't work for some websites after downloading version 4.0

I recently downloaded firefox version 4.0. Upon downloading it I had a few issues occur with my browser. One issue was that all of my bookmarks that were on my toolbar disappeared. Also, when I visit a website and am browsing through it, if I want to go back to a previous page the back button doesn't work properly. Instead of sending me back to the previous page I was viewing it sends me all the way back to the home page or wherever I started on that website. This problem basically affects all websites that I visit. I would like to uninstall the new version of firefox and just go back to my old one if that's possible? Thanks

To respond to your comments first of all, the Bookmarks toolbar has been removed in Firefox 4.0
The back button should work as it normally does, but you can also right click it and select it from the list.
To revert to a previous version of Firefox, download v3.6.16 from here: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.16]
Then uninstall Mozilla Firefox 4.0 choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc.
Finally run the Firefox installation file you downloaded earlier.

  • The disappering back button on mac os x

is annoying me to no ends!
I don't know why the back button disappears, but after a while it is gone... And the only way I know how to get i back is a total removal and then reinstall of firefox.
Which totally sucks if you need to do it every other week :-(
    I'm running mac os x 10.5.8

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • IE 11 back button not responding

After opening a PDF document in Internet Explorer 11 I can't get out of it unless I repeatedly and rapidly click on the back button.  What could be wrong?

    Hello,
I know I'm replying to a 2 month old thread here.. but one of my colleagues raised this issue today and I came across this when using my research & development tool... Google.
The above answer makes sense to a point..  but if it was a redirect link, and therefore a "webpage issue", shouldn't the problem happen with any browser?
For example..  if you Google "motor efficiency testing", and click the 7th link (whitelegg.com), with IE11 you will not be able to click "back" to your Google results.  But if you do the exact same process in Firefox or Chrome, the back button works just fine.  In fact, I tested this in IE9, and the back button works fine there as well.  Definitely seems to be an IE11 issue.
I'm going to do some more digging on this..

  • Back button in Aperture Faces view?

    Hello there.
Perhaps I'm doing it wrong... but...
If you go to the Faces view (for the library), then double-click on a face to see all the photos for that person... then go to the Viewer to look at a photo, the back button disappears! Is there any way to go back to the photos associated with just the person you were looking at in Viewer?
    Thanks!
    Matt.

    Hallo Matt,
.. then go to the Viewer to look at a photo, the back button disappears! Is there any way to go back to the photos associated with just the person you were looking at in Viewer?
I just double-click the image in the Viewer and then I am back in "Faces" View - the same works in "Places" btw; you toggle between views by double-clicking.
