FireFox v22 and File Folder display

Hello,
A very strange behavior....
Having the latest FF (22)...
Going to a File Folder where (in my case) I have uploaded 8 files....
I only see 7 files. The last one is not visible...
Any special things to configure ?
Tx for your help ...

Hi,
Which version of FF did you use before? Are you sure it worked before?
I guess you just stumbled across a well known bug: See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786587 for more information.
The fix for that bug will be included in Vibe 3.4 - a minor upgrade which is expected to be released this or next week.
Best Regards

  • A Few SEO Questions: Alt="" text and file/folder names.

    I've been reading about the Dark Art of SEO and frankly, a lot of it is more confusing than I anticipated.  Anyway, I'll summarise a bit here.I have read that:
    File/folder names are better with meaningful words and hyphenated words.  so DCM000123.jpg in a folder called galimg would be better as: /gallery-images/painting-title-here.jpg
    Alt="" text can add to the content of your pages.
    My thinking underneath this relates to a gallery site I built with around 200 individual paintings in it.  So the site has a lot of content but not a lot of text.  I wonder if I should start trawling through all of this to change the file names and folders and add alt="" text more meaningfully to help with SEO?
    So if my thinking is OK, here are the questions.
    How would you put the alt="" text on individual images?  I imagine that it should just be a straight-forward, what-you-see description?  But there are a few other options.  Suppose I have an image that the artist has titled, "Cattle on a Hill" and it's an oil on canvas.  I could make that into,
    alt="Oil on Canvas: Cattle on a Hill" or
    alt="Cattle on a Hill" or
    alt="A group of cows grazing in pasture under moonlight." or
    Suppose I have 20 images in a portrait gallery:
    alt="Portrait.  Oil on canvas: Joe Bloggs" or
    alt="Portrait.  Joe Bloggs" or
    alt="Man with grey hair wearing a blue shirt sitting on a bench" or
    alt="Portrait painting.  Oil on canvas. Joe Bloggs: Man with gray hair wearing a blue shirt sitting on a bench"
    The second part of the question also includes the problem that if I have 20 images in a single gallery page and I put "Portrait painting" in each alt="" text is that going to look like key word stuffing?
    Now on to the file name thing.  Should the file names be portrait-painting-01 and so on or should they be Cattle-on-hill or what?
    Final question: am I making too much of all this?
    Thanks
    Martin

    First of all, stay away from spaces in file names AT ALL COST.
    The examples you cited would look like:
    alt="Oil%20on%20Canvas:%20Cattle%20on%20a%20Hill" or
    alt="Cattle%20on%20a%20Hill" or
    alt="A%20group%20of%20cows%20grazing%20in%20pasture%20under%20moonlight."
    to an SE crawler.
    If you really want effective picutres, use Photoshop or Fireworks to embed metadata and THEN add them to your site.
    Alt tags means the text that would appear if the image didn't for some reason. It also helps with accessibility for visually impaired viewers who use plug-ins to allow their browser to "speak" the images to them when the page loads.
    <img src="img/example-1.jpg" width="128" height="160" alt="example-1.jpg" />
    Above is an example of how to add alt text. Dreamweaver actually loads the alt tag automatically unless you've turned it off somehow.
    Either put the info in the Alt box in the properties panel, or in code view, add it between the quotes.
    To the second part of your question, Alt tags are meant for SEO with the images only (Like when you search for images of a certain name or containing certain tags)
    and really have little effect on the page SEO itself. For that type of optimization you want Keywords, and Descriptors in the <head> portion of the
    individual page:
    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="Optimizer code would go here" />
    <meta name="Description" content="Page name, site name, business name, location, phone number, etc. goes here"/>
    <meta name="Keywords" content="Restaurant, Sports bar, Catering, Hotel, Gallery, Car Dealer, Exterminator or whatever describes the site and page as well as content of the pages"/>
    <meta name="author" content="your name here"/>
    <meta name="robots" content="index, follow"/> (This tells search engine crawlers to index this page and each one you add it to,  and follow them site wide)
    <meta name="revisit-after" content="7 days"/> (This tells the crawler when to revisit for updates after it has indexed the site)
    To your last question. No, you're not making too big a deal out of it, if you're talking about exposure for a business. If it's a personal gallery of your favorite vacation pictures? You just might be.

  • Petition: Dual firmware, for both tag and file/folder supp

    Hi folks,
    The basis of this petition is for Creative to create a firmware for their larger disk Zen players that supports both file/folder based browsing AND tag based browsing.
    Similar to at least one of iRi'ver's players the idea is that this would be switchable, so you work in either mode (not both at the same time).
    Are you interested? If so sign it
    Edit: Just to make this a little clearer, I'm also advocating that when in the file/folder browsing mode the player acts as a USB mass storage device (a dri've letter). For tag based browsing of course a driver will be necessary.Message Edited by SSR on 0-2-2005 02:23 PM

    DM wrote:I'm not sure if the MTP versions work as a UMS as well, or if its strictly MTP.Hopefully I didn't confuse anyone here.... But I dont think its possible to get both MTP and UMS on one device using one storage media. It is however possible to have MTP and have a view on the player so that you can see ALL the files on it.
    My son has a (US) iRi'ver H0 which is MTP so maybe I can help clear this up.
    By default, the H0 boots into MTP mode (which requires WinXP + WMP0). It shows as a device in My Computer (not a dri've letter) and you can drag and drop music and/or data onto the device. When you use the player, you have a choice of browsing the music by the tag database (faster) or browsing through folders (slower).
    You can also boot the H0 in UMS mode (which does <EM>not</EM> require Win XP) by holding down a button while turning it on. In this mode, the player shows up as a dri've letter in My Computer. It's similar to the Removable Storage mode of the Micro, et. al., but you can also copy music (non-DRM) and you don't need to create a seperate partition. Now, if you were to stop there and disconnect the player as normal, you would only be able to browse through folders on the player (no database index has been created). However, you can download a free opensource utility to create the associated index files to allow you to browse the tag database also.
    So, in this regard, iRi'ver's solution is the best of both worlds. You can copy music (non-DRM) and/or data using either MTP or UMS and you can browse the player using either a tag database and/or folders.
    (So, in effect, I can use the H0 with Win2k even though the manual says WinXP is required)
    That being said, I prefer database browsing and have no desire to browse through folders on my Touch. But having more options is always a good thing

  • Incorrect dates and file folder size

    Here's something strange. I was trying to burn a DVD today and the contents added up to 4.3 gigs. When I opened Toast Titanium to burn the disc, the contents only added up to 4.0 gigs! Why is there a difference of 300 megabytes? So I burned the disc, and it appeared to work OK, but when I catalogued the disc in Disk Tracker, the creation year is 1923?! Any idea what's going on? The date on my computer is accurate. Is this problem on my Mac or is it a problem with Toast Titanium?

    Sounds like a case of Apple's +new way+ for measuring the size of storage. Starting with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Apple has Mac OS X reporting things like hard drive capacity and file size based on how humans count, in Base 10. Previously, Apple was following the industry norm and displaying such information based on how computers count. So...
    "kilo" instead of being 1000, was 1024.
    "mega" instead of being 1,000,000 (1000x1000), was 1,048,576 (1024x1024)
    "giga" instead of being 1,000,000,000 (1000x1000x1000), was 1,073,741,824 (1024x1024x1024)
    and so on...
    As you can see, as the numbers get larger, the percentage discrepancy between the human number and the computer number gets larger. That's why before Snow Leopard, a 160GB hard drive was reported as only having the capacity of about 149GB. But if you look at that same hard drive capacity under Snow Leopard, a 160GB hard drive has a reported capacity of 160GB. Apple is basically translating the computer number back to human (Base 10) terms.
    Third parties have not updated their apps to follow Apple's lead. So Toast is probably still reporting the number as the computer number. The difference of 0.3 GB is about a 7% discrepancy, which makes sense for a capacity in the "giga" range.
    So to answer your question, both the Mac and Toast are correct. They are just calculating that number differently.
    I don't know what's going on with the date. That may be a separate issue.

  • Mozilla/Firefox 4 will not install on my computer and I cannot uninstall any old Mozilla/Firefox programs and files still on my computer.

    Firefox won't load onto my computer. I have Windows 7, and each time I try to run the program to install it, it tells me I have another version still waiting to be installed that requires my computer to reboot. When I check "yes" to reboot, my computer reboots but still no Firefox. When I try to uninstall the the old Mozilla program from my Control Panels, there is no Mozilla files or programs listed not in my list of programs but when I go directly to the Windows File on the C: Drive, there's a Mozilla program file there. WHen I go into that file check, I attempt to open the uninstall program. I get an error message that says something to the effect of: "the version Mozilla on this computer is not compatable with my OS." Something about it being and 86bit program. My Firefox 3.6 worked fine 2 days ago. What's wrong???

    Ok, lets do a couple of steps here first:
    To make sure your windows isn't corrupted because of the power outage, let's run chkdsk.
    Click on My Computer, then right click your C: Drive (if you have other hard drives, you will want to run this on them as well). Then, click Properties. Inside that window, go to the Tools tab. Inside that tab, open up the "Check Now" button. That will open a smaller window. Select the checkbox to "Automatically fix file system errors", then hit Start. You will probably receive an error asking if you want to schedule the disk check, click Yes, then restart your computer.
    Read [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265] for more information.
    After running the chkdsk, then please go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download a fresh version of Firefox. I'm assuming you are using Internet Explorer to download Firefox. Instead of hitting Run, let's try hitting save. Remember where it saves the installer file on your computer.
    After the download has finished, double-click and run the Firefox install. Once it is finished, try to start Firefox up. Let me know how it goes!

  • Captivate 6 startup admin prompt always appearing and file menu display issues

    Hi,
    Product: Adobe Captivate 6.1
    WinVer: Win7x64
    Our users are non local administrators. At startup they get the below screen as expected:
    The problem is the screen always appears at startup, even if they check the "Don't show" box.
    Secondly the menu doesn't display when Captivate 6 is launched unless maximized:
    I've also noticed when the above issues exist Adobe Captivate 6 isnt creating\writing the files "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Adobe\Captivate 6.0\info.cpi" or "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Adobe\Captivate 6.0\objects\objects.cpo".
    Both the above issues can be fixed if the user goes into the preferences menu and unselects "Startup message in Microsoft Windows Vista/Win7".
    The problem here though is the users dont know to do this and they shouldnt have to. Is there a way to set this option unchecked in preferences by default or to get the initial admin dialog checkbox option to work correctly?
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks for reaching Adobe Community Help. Please accept my sincere apologies for the same.
    In order to disable the startup admin box permanently go to Edit > Preferences > General Settings > Confirmation Messages and unchek "Startup message in Microsoft Windows Vista/Win7".
    But the Don't show button works just fine as well.
    Is it not working on one machine or all the machines?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Barbara! Is the problem that you have a lot of different versions of Firefox on your launch bar? Or that you have a lot of different versions in a directory somewhere?
    Either way, on the mac, you should be able to simply:
    1. Close all versions of Firefox
    2. Drag the applications to the trash folder, which will remove them from the folder or your dock
    3. Download Firefox with Safari at getfirefox.com
    4. Open the downloaded file by double clicking it
    5. Once that happens you will have a Firefox icon and a folder with an "A" on it
    6. Drag the Firefox icon onto the A, which will install it into your Applications folder
    7. Open your Applications folder and drag it onto your main dock
    8. You should be able to launch it from your dock by clicking on the Firefox icon.
    Thanks!

  • White screen with file folder flashing

    I was given a MacBook 13" laptop, new to apple computers though. At first I was told the laptop itself did not power on. I charged it overnight, and it will come on, however, only to a white screen with a file folder in the middle with a ? mark in the file folder.  I googled the screen and got several choices, start in save mode, did nothing. I called apple, since it is a 2006 model computer, it is of course out of support, but she emailed me articles to follow directions.  None of them did anything, since it was given to me I do not have the start up disks, just the laptop  and the charger.  I did notice that out of all the steps the only thing that did anything different was the "reset NVRAM/PRAM"  it made speakers make a sound as it was starting up. Thats all it just still went to white screen and file folder.
    Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Stephanie

    That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
    You will need to have Operating System install disks, If you don't have a friend with an install disk that you could borrow you can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
    The 2006 MacBook originally came with 10.4 Tiger. I called Apple Customer Support (1- (800) 767-2775) to check on how much they charge for the gray restore disks that originally came with the MacBook and was quoted $16 dollars per disk plus S & H. Which would be $32 for the two disks. Just give them the serial number of your MacBook and they'll know which ones you need. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current when your MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
    Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
    When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
    If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
    If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.
