Firefox V37.01 is not creating a shortcut icon on Desktop only a default icon

Hi, try this: Right click on the Desktop icon > Delete. Now open the Start Menu > All Programs, right click on Mozilla Firefox > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). There should now be a Firefox icon on the Desktop.

Make absolutely certain that FireFox is designated as your default browser.
Do this: Tools / Options / Advanced / Check Now / correct the setting
OR right click on any shortcut icon / Open With / Choose Default Program / select desired Browser / check Always... box / OK

Option to not create a shortcut when installing an AIR application

Hello Adobe AIR community,
Does anyone know if there is an option to not create a shortcut for an AIR application?
Currently, all I have found is an option to choose the location of the shortcut from within the start menu (in the application descriptor file, using the programMenuFolder option).

I figured it out. The AIR installer was stripping out my query parameters. I made the URL use slashes for the parameters with a rewrite instead of ? and & it worked.

How do I CREATE A SHORTCUT ON THE DESKTOP?

New to the Apple family. Always have been a PC person. Just got fed up.. Would like to find out how to cut and paste with the mouse and also my main question is not knowing how to set up a shortcut on the Desktop for faster internet access to certain specified sites.... Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. I signed up for one on one training.... I hope it wasn't a waste of money.

This post may be under the wrong section, if you are a new Mac user, then you most likely have an Intel based Mac, not a PPC. And also, you may want to not write IN CAPS as it usually indicates yelling in a forum environment
1. You cannot Cut & Paste on a Mac, you may Copy & Paste, if you want to Cut & Paste (CMD + X) you can download MoveAddict from the Mac App Store.
2. EDIT: Sorry, I thought you meant Application shortcut - do what he said \/ \/ \/

Google Chrome not showing my shortcut icons

Hi People - good day all.
I've got a Z1 with Chrome v37.0.2062.117. Eberything else is up to date.
It's just started to not show the webpage of my screen icons, and instead just show a one that I used earlier that day.
All the icons show the same webpage, like the browser is stuck on a single page.
A fix is to force stop and empty cache of chrome. Then it behaves for a few web pages, and then does it again on a webpage I've just looked at, and all the icons are stuck on that one.
Last option I tried was to do a total re-install of all the software, which worked until Chrome was back up to the version it's on now.
Don't know if you'd call i a bug in Chrome software. The rest of the phone is fine - 12 months old.

1. What sort of PDF convert are you trying to run? What are you trying to convert FROM and TO?
2. Exactly what PDF convert have you purchased, or subscribed to? Please give exact product name from your receipt.
3. How are you trying to use this software or service? Please be detailed.

Sync does not appear to sync from mobile- desktop only from desktop- mobile

Does Firefox sync only work from desktop to your mobile (android) device?
If I save a bookmark on my android device my bookmark does not appear to show up on my desktop.
If I save a bookmark on my desktop it will sync to my android device, is syncing one direction only?

How do I set Firefox 10.0.2 to be default browser in Windows 7, using a script or setup switch. "Firefox.exe -setDefaultBrowser" does NOT work.

I want to set Firefox as default browser for all my users.
I can do this by opening Firefox and go to Tools --> Options --> Advanced and hit the "Check now" button. That works fine, but I need to accomplish this automatically.
Running setup with the -setDefaultBrowser switch does NOT work. Running "firefox.exe -silent -SetDefaultBrowser" after setup does NOT work.
Is this even possible? Or are we stuck with IE?

I have Firefox installed, as well as Internet Explorer 9. If I check "Default Programs --> Set Default Programs" in Windows 7 it states that Internet Explorer is default.
If I create a shortcut on my desktop that points to "www.mozilla.org" for example, and double-click that shortcut, it will open in Internet Explorer.
I now run "%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser" with administrative privileges.
I look again in "Default programs" and i still says IE is default browser. If I click on my shortcut it still opens in IE.
If I change the setting manually from within Firefox it works fine.
Please help, I really can't make this work.

Creating a shortcut of an application on the desktop

Hi,
I've just purchased an ibook G4 running on Mac OS X (10.4.8) from apple and wanted to know how can I create application shortcuts on my desktop? Since I'm familar with Windows and Unix, I'm finding a mac a bit of a mission!
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to discussions apple freak,
You can do what Gnarlodious suggested, and it will work perfectly fine, But you should try out the dock. At default it is located at bottom of the screen (though it can be moved to either side), you can put applications there, folders, and basically anything that it will let you drag onto it. You do not need to create a short cut, or alias (basically the same thing). To place something on your dock simply drag it's icon, and let it drop on the dock. You can also set the dock to hide when your mouse is not over it, and to magnify when you mouse is over it. This is also where documents that are minimized are stored until you open them again. You may already know all (or some) of this, but if you haven't yet tried working with the dock I suggest you try it.

You can drag the favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create a shortcut.
You can also use an extension.

Create terminal command shortcut icon

If someone would be kind enough to help me out with creating a shortcut terminal command that would be great. I was messing around with the Android SDK just for fun and was wondering how you can get it to launch a specific avd, so from Terminal I would type
/user/myaccount/applications/andriod/tools/emulator -avd Android-2.3.3
And it would open, how would you create a shortcut on the desktop to do this so I can just double click and it will open? In windows I would just modify the target and add the -avd or create a batch file, but not sure how to do this in OSX.

so in text editor I put this line which if I open terminal and paste it will launch the emulator.
/Applications/Android-Emulator/tools/emulator -avd Android-2.3.3
saved the file, then did a chmod +x ./filename
change the extention to .command
When I double click I get an error

Run java program in task bar and create a shortcut

Hi all,
Do you have any idea about how to run a Java task in taskbar on windows. I am writing a application in Java and it needs to monitor mouse movements. I need to collect the file paths it selects and then drag and drop on Shortcut Icon on Desktop which finally triggers the actual GUI application written in Java where again these files are fed as input. If you have any Idea or suggessions about how to do this.

To create a shortcut on your desktop w2k/xp:
1. right click on desktop, select new: Shortcut
2. in "Type location of item" type:
   "javaw -classpath C:\ebjava\ DragTest"
   (Replace c:\ebjava\ with location of your Java app and DragTest with name of your app)
3. Click next, and enter a name for your shortcut and click finishFor your Java app.. do something like this.

When you drag files, or other shortcuts onto your shortcut the app will start and the full file name (including full path) will show up as a string argument. This is the best you're going to get.

Cannot create shortcut icon

Hi:
I am on Windows 2000 and I executed the following command to import Java Webstart app into system cache and to create a shortcut on the desktop.
javaws -shortcut -system -import http://localhost:7001/uif/uifTestClient.jnlp
WebStart imported the App into system cache alright but it failed to create the shortcut. Also the Java Cache Viewer shows the shortcut icon disabled.
Any Idea?

I see the from the guide here..

However there is no mention of '-silent' in your
command above.

How to change the icon for a shortcut on the desktop

I created a shortcut on the Desktop (dragging a safari url-icon to the desktop) but the icon showing is a safari icon.
The website has a specific icon, as displayed as the first item (icon) on the url bar in front of the website-URL.
I located the specific icon on the website (favicon.ico), opened it and copied the icon (copy paste).
Then I opened the properties screen for my shortcut (at the Desktop) (control click on link) .
Now I am supposed to copy the new icon (from my Clipboard) into the properties of the Desktop URL, but how do I do that?

You can change the favicon for a folder but not a specific Safari url.
Click a clear space on your desktop then go to the Finder menu and click File > New Folder
Move Safari url shortcuts to that folder.
Then copy and paste the icon for the folder.

Annoying shortcut icons

One thing I'm really annoyed about: after ever Reader update (Win7) the once deleted shortcut icons on desktop and in the start menu reappear. And they can only be removed with administrative permission.
Please: an updater should not generate new shortcut icons. It may update existings shortcuts whenever a path changes, but otherwise please honour a customers decision.
While I started to replace Acrobat Reader with a less intrusive PDF viewer wherever possible, I still search a way to avoid this clutter.

I mean a shortcut to a website.
