Firefox very choppy (especially when watching twitch)

Firefox has been lagging for me for awhile, I cant really remember when it started. It gets much worse when I have youtube videos/twitch.tv/many other video streaming sites, as well as when I open a lot of tabs. None of this seems to be a problem in chrome (I really would prefer to stay with firefox).
Also, when im watching twitch/youtube it seems to lag much much less when I have it in fullscreen (this is nice, though I dont always want fullscreen, as I like having it run off to the side where I can be doing other things at the same time). It's also very choppy when switching applications.
When i open a new tab, generally the little circle blue loading thing at the top is visibly lagging. The page takes forever to open (to the new tab page, i have it set to about:newtab or whatever it is). Then the typing is delayed and choppy. Scrolling is choppy as well. I've seen many support threads about this, but none of the posted solutions have worked. Here is what i've tried so far:
- Disabling hardware acceleration (both in firefox, and adobe flash settings).
- Clean install
- Deleting profiles in %appdata%/mozilla/firefox
- Enabling HTML5 in youtube
- Setting process priority in task manager
- Setting affinity in task manager (removing core 1)
- (tried both of the above with both firefox and flashplayerplugin)
- Restarting my computer
- Disabling extensions (i only have 3 of them, tried disabling all of them)
- Running the same stuff in a different browser (this did work fine in chrome)
I have also monitored my cpu usage and RAM usage in task manager, and it's generally around 50% CPU and 65% RAM (I am running a lot of other stuff at the same time, and yes, i was running this stuff when i tried chrome).
I have 16 GB RAM
quad core 3.8 AMD processor
256 GB SSD
1 TB HDD
NVIDIA 550 Ti boost graphics
I would really like to fix this, as I love firefox, and hate lag. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

  • My Mac is running very slowly especially when I am using Facebook and related products. What can I do to fix this?

Hello everyone. My Mac is running very slowly when I am using the internet, and especially when on Facebook. The little rainbow globe spins around for ages before changing pages etc. I have done several virus checks etc, but cannot find anything wrong. Sorry, but I am not tech savvy, so have difficulty with these issues.

Thanks for your reply. Well, I am not sure about the OS X version, I just gave that info from the Install DVD. I have the machine on automatic updates so I guess I am using a newer version. I know it is iMac Snow Leopard and I bought it in 2009. It is the 21.5 inch model. That is all I can tell you. I have 499GB and have used only 32GB, so it isn't a space problem.

  • Very choppy animation when maximizing window on some movies

Hi when playing some movies using Quicktime X and Perian, when I click the maximize window, the animation is very choppy. Sometimes the dock won't even disappear. On movie trailers it's perfectly smooth though. Is this normal? thanks

    Anyone else have this?

  • My computer keeps scrolling up and down on it's own. It's getting very annoying, especially when I'm trying to look at something. What is this and how do I stop it? Do I have it on a strange setting?

My computer started doing this a week ago. It scrolls down on its own when I'm on the Web. It doesn't happen on pages or anything. The only things I've done differently are I started using VoiceOver Utility and Pocket Cloud. How do I end this?

  • Firefox keeps crashing - especially when I have web-outlook open

Firefox crashes numerous times every day. This seems to be associated with having a tab open with outlook mail, which I use for my work email. I am not entirely sure whether this is the only trigger as it's been going on for so long now. I have reinstalled firefox, deleted my cache, updated windows, updated various things (including my graphics driver), and have uninstalled and reinstalled add-ons including adblock. It is driving me crazy. And soon I will simply have to switch to Chrome (and note - I'm posting this from Explorer as I don't trust Firefox to stay open long enough).

I have the same problem. Office 365 or Outlook Web App 2013 cause Firefox to consume 100% CPU on all cores and crash.

  • Very choppy footage when trying to edit a clip in motion 5

Hi there, I have just recently got Motion 5 and have wanted to use it to add some tracking points to some of my footage to add some effects. However my problem is that even importing footage into motion of a very simple 10 second camera pan shot, I can't even play it back with out it stopping a bunch and skipping frames and essentially sputtering to try and play the clip. However the exact same clip I can pull into FCPX and edit it no problems completely smooth with no issue, even after color correction and added audio ect. I can't figure out why it does this but Motion does this to me a lot. Any ideas? It's very frustrating, but if I could fix this problem I could continue experimenting with visual effects to see what motion can do for me. Any ideas? Thanks!

What codec is the clip? FCPX is designed to play well with some compressed codecs that Motion will struggle with. Depending on your system, if you are working with H.264, it may cause Motion to play back at reduced frame rates and/or inconsistently; it will work better if you first convert it to some flavor of Pro Res.
Otherwise, consider adjusting the resolution and quality in the Render drop down menu. You could also do a RAM preview for real time playback, although you'll have to render each time you make a change.
FWIW, I'd transcode and adjust resolution if necessary.
    Good luck.
    Russ

  • Firefox keeps crashing, especially in google

Firefox keeps crashing, especially when I try to search in google.

This looks more like a problem with the Arial Black font.
Maybe you can reinstall this font or temporarily uninstall it.
Try to refresh the font registry by reinstalling corrupted fonts.
Open Control Panel > Fonts
Choose > File > Install new Font
Browse to the C:\windows\fonts folder
Click "Select All" to select all fonts or select only specific fonts that you want to refresh
Click Install to install and refresh all selected fonts.
You can press the Alt key and click the Yes button to confirm that you want to replace the fonts.
After several years of use very satisfied with Firefox, recently loaded version (4.0.1) severely slows my browsing, and even my system, especially when there are pictures or videos. I said that this was not the case before and my system is Windows XP SP3.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • My iTunes is very choppy when watching videos

My iTunes is very choppy when watching videos. I just dowloaded a couple shows and it stops then goes really fast when it play's. Anyway to fix this?

Yes! I have the exact same issue. So I tried some things.
I am on Uvese (via wifi) and was trying to update the apps on my PC via itunes. Taking FOREVER. So i tired it directly from my iPhone 6 via wifi - same issue. Then I turned off wifi on the iPhone and updated over (ATT) LTE. That worked great. I am thinking it is a Uverse/ATT issue at this point.

After closing Firefox to use IE8 or any other program (like InterVideo to watch a DVD), everything is very choppy and slow. I have to go into Taskbar, Processes, and close firefox.exe manually (which is using up all the memory/CPU and should have closed before). Then, and only then, does everything behave normally. What is going on and what am I doing wrong or missing??

You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox SafeMode is a diagnostic mode that disables extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    See:
    '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''
    '''[[Troubleshooting plugins]]'''
    '''[[Basic Troubleshooting]]'''
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • Ipod touch recorded video choppy when watch on my PC

When I try to watch recorded videos on my PC they are extremly choppy. I have tried to watch in Quick time but the color is off and no sound. When I try to watch in picasa it is too choppy/jerky to watch with no sound. How can I watch my recorded videos on my pc?

Maybe since your pc is running XP that it isn't fully compatible and it doesn't read the video from the ipod touch as it would on a new operating system? Have you tried a friends computer? I would try that.
