Firefox very slow on battery power

I just recently got a new Dell XPS 15 (2014 model) with windows 8.1 Everything works smooth except firefox. It's very slow, sluggish and unresponsive. It takes several seconds to start up and every time i load a site I have to wait for it to respond to any input. All the other browsers work fine.
Scrolling is also terrible, it's very laggy. I already tried starting firefox in safe mode to no avail.
This effect seems worse on battery power. When plugged in it's still there but not as bad.
What are some options to fix this problem?

you need to enable Pipelining , please follow the instructions on this videos and you'll get it right .

  • New Firefox Very Slow Bookmarks all gone restore not working Can I get them back?

Woke up today to new firefox update installed. Now Firefox VERY slow & all of my Bookmarks are gone as well as Bookmarks Toolbar empty. IE runs fast like usual, but Firefox barely loading.
Tried Restore from available dates, but all come back unable to process.

Some of you will want to shoot me; Mozilla may yank this reply. BUT I had the same problem for about a week, struggled in vain, poured over the help section and got 3 replies to my posted question. Nothing, absolutely nothing worked.
Want to know what solution I finally came up with? '''''CHROME.'''''
It imported my precious bookmarks from IE and FF. I'm going to uninstall IE now and leave FF as an emergency backup browser which I don't expect to need anymore.

  • Firefox very slow loading most pages, sometimes error message :"can't find server for......." ....."

Firefox is very slow loading pages, some pages never load, sometimes error message stating "cannot connect to server" Router is not an issue I don't think as other computer connected to it has no problems. Used Malwarebytes to clean up problems, only 5 found. Internet Explorer does not have the same problems.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • FireFox VERY slow with Norton Toolbar 4.6 on GMAIL and B of A, etc.

Using XP Pro SP3 and FireFox 3.6.7, but has been slow for a while now. If I disable Norton ToolBar 4.6 (from NIS 2010) it is OK but IE 8 is fine. What happens is that GMAIL logs in and just hangs for a while. Even B of A or the Norton site. Even my ISP's site is VERY slow. A lot of forums are slow as well. Seems like sites that need a log-in have this issue.
== URL of affected sites ==

I had done this and disabled ALL of the addons/plugins, and it was fine. As soon as I enabled the Norton toolbar, the problem was back. I then enabled everything except the Norton Toolbar and it was still good. I believe this is a Firefox issue as IE 8 works well with the Norton Toolbar enabled. I also see this when I go to my Netflix queue. Firefox is very slow while IE 8 shows the list quickly.

  • IDCS4 running very slow on a Power Mac G5 2Ghz DP

Just completed a scratch fresh install of OSX 10.5.6 and CS4 suite. Yet I'm finding the new CS4 apps very slow. InDesign takes over 40 seconds to launch, let on a colleagues MacPro Intel 3Ghz less than 5 seconds. Does any one else run CS4 on a Power Mac G5 2Ghz DP?

    Gavin,
Well, the 667 Mhz is the bus speed, not the processor speed (sorry abt that, turned the figures around). It is actually a 2GHz processor speed. It is my old home-Mac, was the very first Intel iMac model that was released, but soon to be exchanged for something better (just waiting for next model from Apple - I happen to like iMacs but want more RAM).
But it is not the only one I have access to. What it produces is no worse quality wise than something produced on a more powerful Mac.
It has no problem running CS4 Premium in any of the apps as it does have a large harddisk and 2 external ones. It is both faster and more stable than the Mac Pros and the G5s (which are in the process of beeing thrown out) in the office running Tiger and CS2-CS3. I also personally run all CS4 apps on a MacBook Alu in Leopard 10.5.6. (with extra 24" display when in the office). Runs just fine.
With my limited RAM on the iMac I avoid switching back and forth between PS, AI and ID but it is no problem to have them all open at the same time as OSX memory management actually can take that and if you have an external drive (or two) for scratch even that works quite well. And I restrict the number of active fonts to only those I really use.
The Leopard with CS4 combo is much faster than Tiger and CS3.

  • Firefox very slow and Thunderbird not responding with new HP laptop.

I recently purchased a new HP laptop with Windows 8. I had been using Firefox and Thunderbird on both my old laptop and desktop with no problem. However, since trying to use both on my new machine, Firefox has slowed down to the point of making it impractical to use. And whenever I log into Thunderbird, it takes at least 10 minutes and more before Thunderbird becomes responsive.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there any solutions?

Start '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web Link} by holding down the '''<Shift><br> ''(Mac Options)'' ''' key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox.
Try '''Safe''' web sites. Is the problem still there?

  • Macbook pro very slow on battery

Okay I had a couple of incidents with my macbook and not even once I went to the stores for repair as I don't have any near me. First I put a magnet atop of mac's hdd. It got corrupted or stopped fuctioning. Then I started using an external hdd for using my macbook and it worked fine with or without battery. One day while my mac was in use I spilled water on it and then shut it down. It didn't start. After a couple of days under the fan and hairdryer it started with the external hard drive. But now the problem is that the fans get to high speeds with nothing processing and gets heated up like hot iron. Besides if put on power and used then the screen is smooth and the mac atleast works well but when used on battery the screen lags and applications take too long to open as if the processing speed has reduced very much. Here are the specs
    Macbook Pro 13-inch, Late 2011
Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8Gb 1333 Mhz DDr3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    OS X 10.8.3
And I get mild currents when I touch the aluminium body . Not always but at times so is that normal or something else?
Please help me I will appreciate for any help and give 5 points but please I am in great trouble
    Sorry for bad english

You've had numerous 'user accidents' with your computer and these, no doubt, have contributed to your problems - perhaps the liquid spill causing the greatest damage.
The only thing that I can recommend is that you take your computer to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run full diagnostics on your machine. They will give you a 'free' estimate on how much it would cost to repair. More likely than not, at the very least, you are looking at a complete replacement of your logic board, whcih can be very expensive.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • IPad mini with retina very slow and battery drains fast

my ipad mini 2 is only ten months old. After getting the iOS 8 currently on ios8.0.2, wifi internet speed is only 25% of the normal speed (compared to what my imac tested), battery drains 1% every 3 minutes or so. All of these after I restored it to factory setting per Apple support suggestion. is there any fix for this soon? why is the issue only affecting some but not all users? Is there anything I can do for my ipad? I have only been using it lighty (have installed like less than ten app's) but this is still very frustrating.

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I want to load large raw XML file in firefox and parse by DOM. But, for large XML file the firefox very slow some time crashed . Is there any option to increase DOM handling memory in Firefox

Actually i am using an off-line form to load very large XML file and using firefox to load that form. But, its taking more time to load and some time the browser crashed. through DOM parsing this XML file to my form. Is there any option to increase DOM handler size in firefox

Thank you for your suggestion. I have a question,
though. If I use a relational database and try to
access it for EACH and EVERY click the user makes,
wouldn't that take much time to populate the page with
    data?
Isn't XML store more efficient here? Please reply me.You have the choice of reading a small number of records (10 children per element?) from a database, or parsing multiple megabytes. Reading 10 records from a database should take maybe 100 milliseconds (1/10 of a second). I have written a web application that reads several hundred records and returns them with acceptable response time, and I am no expert. To parse an XML file of many megabytes... you have already tried this, so you know how long it takes, right? If you haven't tried it then you should. It's possible to waste a lot of time considering alternatives -- the term is "analysis paralysis". Speculating on how fast something might be doesn't get you very far.

  • Firefox very slow on pages with HTML textareas

I have a webpage with several hundred separate TEXTAREA fields within a single FORM.
Firefox handles this but excruciatingly slowly. Google Chrome handles the same page very very quickly and IE8 is somewhere in between the two.
Please try to improve performance on TEXTAREAs since I could not bear the thought of recommending any browser other than Firefox to my users.

Ah - thank you for the prompt reply.
It is actually taking about 6 seconds for my page to appear on-screen; thereafter typing into one of the textareas seems okay. The same screen paints in half-second using Google Chrome

  • Firefox very slow and repeatedly hangs after upgrading to 7.0

I upgraded to Firefox 7.0 this morning. Since updating, Firefox is running excruciatingly slow. When trying to load webpages in new or existing tabs Firefox will hang indefinitely, and I need to restart Firefox to get it working again.
I have tried clearing cookies and cache, and starting Firefox in safemode with all add-ons and plug-ins disabled, but neither have helped the problem.
    Running Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB RAM

I may have found a solution to this problem [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2321783 here] (well, at least Firefox has been working again for the last few hours, not sure if it will prove to be a long term solution or not).
As it says in the linked article, type '''about:config''' into the address bar, find '''network.http.max-connections''' and change its value from 256 to 48.
I have absolutely no idea why this works but it seems to. According to my resource monitor Firefox still seems to be using a ridiculous amount of memory and disk, and my cpu fan is still going crazy, but at least websites are loading again!
Does this fix the problem for anyone else?

  • Firefox very slow on Windows 7

I was a Mac user with Firefox and was exceptionally happy. I changed over to a Windows 7 machine and loaded Firefox to continue my happiness with Firefox. I made Firefox my default.
Unfortunately I find the current Firefox for Windows 7 to be problematic. Actual program start up is fine. Getting to a favorite is fine. It is when I am clicking links on pages I am visiting that I begin to stall out.
If I click a link on a web page, I see the the link being attempted, but it is just the blue circle going round and round without resolution.
Oddly enough I have learned to simply click in the HTTP bar behind the attempted link and hit the ENTER key to resolve. It baffles me why that works, but clicking the same hyperlink in the web page gets me nowhere. So I have a workaround, but that's not how Firefox should work, correct?
I have disabled Hardware Acceleration. That was previously asked by myself because my first days with Firefox was causing actual crashes and freezes. With that disabled I am not crashing any longer.
I have also tried resetting Firefox with the same results. I only have Ghostery as an add-on (like I did on my Mac version).
I am not savvy enough to understand the difference between the click versus the ENTER key. Why does a click stall me out but why does a punch of the ENTER key to the same web page work?

    the-edmeister,
I turned off Ghostery and still had little change. I then reset Firefox (again), but this time everything seemed to slide into place and clicking links within web pages is no longer a crawl. I did not put Ghostery back on.
I instead picked up the Do-Not-Track-Me add on and have no problems since.
    Thank you for helping.

  • Why is Firefox very slow and Safari fast, opening up Yahoo/AOL?

My iMac is all up to date, running fine! My wife loves AOL, the default browser for her is Safari. It runs fine and is fast. I prefer Yahoo and use Firefox. Firefox can be fast but most of the time it take 30+ seconds to open any page/link....? I have both Safari and Firefox set up in the Dock. What am I missing....? Thanks, Bill
