Firefox will connect to internet/load pages but Safari won't!

This is a larger issue but I thought I'd put it here since the Safari aspect is what bothers me the most.
I've done a lot of fiddling around with my network connection settings trying to connect to a dialup connection shared through a wireless router (the less said about that, the better). In the process of trying to get that working I've done something to my settings that has limited the ability of certain apps to connect to the internet. Since discovering the problem I've tried 6 different wifi networks and the result is the same:
I can connect to:
Firefox (browsing just fine)
Azureus
Skype
I CAN'T connect to:
iTunes
Mail
Safari
Essentially, I have no idea what I've done and how to fix it! I'm using Tiger so no Time Machine. A couple strange things have happened since this has started. When I try to connect to certain wireless networks keychain asks for permission to use the passwords for all the previous networks I've been connecting to. So I went into Keychain to see if I can delete the saved passwords for these networks (I no longer use them) and I get the following error: 100013 An error occured while deleting "Network Name".
Is there some way to delete the locations in Network Prefs and start over? Any other ideas on what exactly is going on?
Thanks!

Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Your questions is broader than just Safari. I suggest you repost it in the Tiger Getting On-Line & Networking forum. Someone there, knowledgeable about these kind of network issues, will help you.

  • 8520 will connect with internet via wifi but won't receive or send emails

have recently changed my carrier/service provider and all is set up to recieve texts, use the internet (default setting to hotspot) but now won't let me send or receive emails. I've gone to email set up in setup and tried to re-establish my email link but it keeps saying 'your device had a problem connecting to the server' - how can this be when it connects to tthe server for normal internet use?
    Any ideas gratefully recieved.
    thanks

On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • Can't get Firefox to connect to internet at all, but I can connect via IE. This is a recent development, night before last. I am on a Dell using WXP, use a broadband connection.

I was told by my cable company (RCN) that the copy of Firefox I have would need to be removed (I have v. 4.0.) They gave me a microsoft # to call, in order to deal with removing the copy. MS could not help, gave me a # for Firefox, but it was incorrect. I cannot find a tech support # on this help site. Please help me via e-mail or give me a # to call.

Thanks for sharing that info, this will be really useful if others would ever run into the same issue.

  • Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections. Problem loading page appears. What do I do?

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection

  • Firefox will not open to home page as directed in options and settings. Opening in safe mode makes no difference, either. Any ideas?

Firefox will not open to home page as set in the settings. Even in safe mode, it still will not open to home page as directed. It seems to want to open to last set of tabs, even though that is not the way it was set in settings. It seems as though the settings do not have any impact on the way it behaves!!!

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Have 3 itouch 2 will connect to internet 1 won't

We have 3 touches, 2 will connect to wireless in house but one will not. settings are the same on all 3. One that won't, will detect wireless house but when trying to connect it comes back with "can not connect". Most of time it does not have the wireless icon in top left corner but the other 2 do and they connect. The one that won't did at one time, are they conflicting with one another??? (not sure, haven't heard anything like this, just inquiring)

I have a similar situation but unfortunately no resolution.
    Setup:
Comcast modem connected to Airport Extreme various Macs connected through Airport.
Black MacBook - 10.4.8 connects fine, Internet, Mail, ..no problem.
    iBook G3 - 10.4.8 same, works fine.
17" G5 iMac - 10.4.7 gets full Airport signal and DHCP IP, but will not connect. Sometimes it will not even get an IP until I reset the Airport.
iBook G4 - 10.3.9 same problem as iMac.
I tried deleting prefs, pram reset, and a number of other things. I wonder now if maybe one of the 10.4.8 computers updated the Airport so that it will no longer work with other earlier systems. I will try to update the iMac to 10.4.8 by downloading the update on another computer and transferring it, since it cannot connect to the net. Will Post the results.

Firefox will be able to load Hotmail and display your inbox- but will not respond when clicking on any emails, options like new and reply, or junk mail and other folders. The mouse works fine with all other programs and Hotmail runs as normal on other browsers, making it a seemly Firefox only problem.

Since the MacBook Pro currently works, you should put it next to the iMac and compare the network settings for AirPort in System Preferences Network pane Advanced. Also, if you want to start off with the default network settings, you can use Location drop down menu and select +Edit Locations+. Then click the plus sign to create a new location. Set up that new location.
On System Preferences Network pane, AirPort should appear at the top of the list (in the sidebar). To change the service order, click on the gear icon and select +Set Service Order+.
Some additional tests you can try, on top of seeing if it works with (1) WEP security disabled and (2) a direct wired connection to the router.
If you get it to work with either (1) or (2), be sure to run Software Update at least two times to apply any recent updates from Apple. See if that makes any difference to using AirPort with WEP back on.
    (3) Start up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
I don't know if any third-party software has been installed on the iMac at this point, but Safe Mode will start up with only the essential Apple extensions and processes running. See if it works any better in Safe Mode.
    (4) Create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. Try connecting with AirPort in the new account.
    (5) Connect the MacBook Pro to the router with a wired Ethernet connection. Make sure its Internet access works. On System Preferences Sharing pane, set it up for +Internet Sharing+ so that it is set to +Share your connection from Ethernet - To computers using AirPort+. On the iMac, try to connect to that wireless network and access the Internet.
That last one (5) may be a good one to try first. It would at least show that the iMac's AirPort is working - you can even set it up to use WEP. If you have any questions about using the +Internal Sharing+ feature, please ask.
