Firefox will neither stop nor start.

Firefox will neither stop nor start.
I have attempted to start it in both normal and safe mode, but I get the same results. I receive the following two messages:
CLOSE FIREFOX "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."
When I select either Cancel or Close Firefox this, it is followed by
PROFILE MISSING "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."
I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox. Same result.
I have uninstalled, cleared the registry and re-installed. Same result.
I am at a complete loss as to what to do next.

My playsists will neither shuffle nor go from one song to the next.  Instead it replays the song selected.  Can this be fixed?  I have already rebooted the phone and it didn't change.

In the Music app, after you select a playlist ans start playing a ong, note that on either side of the progress bar are arrow-like symbols. These control shuffle and repeat modes. Click on the one that has the arrows arranged in an oval. If it is blue, it's on; white means off.

  • 20.0.1: File== New Window & New Private Window will not open then Firefox will not stop running when application is closed

Although nothing appears to be happening when clicking on either New Window or New Private Window there seems to be processes started because when I try to close Firefox and reopen, I get an error message saying that Firefox is already running. My only option then is to stop the processes via Task Manager. I have tried (several times) to uninstall and reinstall.

Although advised not to, I finally hit the reset button in the Save Mode Window. This corrected the problem. I suspect a faulty add-on - I try and reject many. I will add them back on at a time as I develop the need. Thanks for you help.

  • I need help. My Firefox will not stop doing this even after i reinstalled. I will shut down firefox and when I open it back up it shows the previous website.

Please Help. This is starting to anger me. I Reinstalled and everything.

You should update your outdated Firefox 13.0.1 version to the current Firefox 17.0.1 release.
I'm not sure what you mean.
Do you mean that Firefox always opens the web pages that were open when you closed Firefox even if you set to open with the home page or a blank page?
Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that there isn't a hanging Firefox or plugin-container process left in the task manager.
    *"Hang at exit": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs
*"Firefox hangs when you quit it": https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firefox+hangs
Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • When i was running firefox display drivers stop and start

when was browsing firefox after sometime display drivers are stop some seconds the automatically start

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • G5/2.3 GHz Computer will neither restart nor shut down

I unplugged everything except the monitor and keyboard. I ran AppleJack under the deep cleaning mode ("applejack AUTO") after first running it in the normal setting ("applejack auto shutdown"). Still, it will not shut down—even under single user mode as is required when using Applejack. Needless to say, I tried everything else first, although I was a little hesitant to shut down everything via Activity Monitor as a first try. Still, running Applejack should have cleaned everything out. Any idea as to what is happening? The only changes I've made to this computer is to put a second hard drive in the "B" bay. This is the HD from my previous G5 that had a power supply meltdown. I pulled the HD and put it in the lower bay ("B") and continued to use it as my start up drive in my replacement G5. Does it matter which of the two HDs is my start up? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. Quite frustrating.

Thanks, Bruce, I'll try your suggestions. I do have some things plugged into the UPS besides the CPU: a USB hub, the monitor, a USB HD for back-up and a plug-strip. I did plug the CPU into a non-UPS outlet and the problem persisted. On restart, I get the message "OSX was not shut down properly..." and I'm given an option to see a report. Always when I click report nothing happens. I check Console to see where the report went, but there is no file with the name it presents. Today, however, it did generate a report. I don't see a way to attach a file to this post (what's up with that?)so I'm including it here. This report was generated after I tried to shut down, the blue screen persisted for about five minutes, and I hit the power button to turn off the CPU (still plugged into the wall, not the UPS.) The report below was generated on the subsequent start up.
Thanks for all your help so far. I have to get a little work done, but I'll give your advice a go later on this evening. And now the report...

  • Some bookmarks "gray out" and will neither work nor can they be deleted. FF 4.0, Win XP SP3. Have tried safe mode, restart, reboot, and manual deletion in the bookmarks organizer. None of these work.

Only certain sites, such as CNN, will show the site name but not the URL in the Bookmarks Organizer. Sometimes they will appear on a restart. I noticed this in FF 3.16 and thought that FF4.0 might cure it but it hasn't. I've tried disabling hardware acceleration, all plugins, and the advice on the Firefox help site under "bookmarks don't work." I'm typing this from a different computer with essentially the same settings, OS, etc. and this does not show a problem on this machine. I've been through Task Manager, Processes and FF does not appear after shutdown.

Re: Audigy2 ZS Platinum -Win XP SP2 - card not detectedF neur0n,
Installation problems can have so many causes...but my first question is did you cancel installation of Windows drivers after it found the soundcard as new hardware? Second, and by way of example, recently the IT guy at work setup a new WinXP PC for me including an A2ZS card. But he installed the default Windows drivers for the soundcard. In Device Manager, I uninstalled these drivers and rebooted. Windows found new hardware. I cancelled the offer of Windows drivers and proceeded to install drivers, Creative software apps, and Mediasource from the original installation CD. Everything works fine now. Possibly you've done something similar to this procedure already, but If you decide to try it again, uninstall any software apps first.
Here is a link to a thread covering some FAQ on the A2ZS:

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • Firefox will not let me start more than one instance (or new window)

I thought I'd check here first in hopes of an answer.  I am not sure what this is related to honestly.  I have not done any recent system updates and this was working fine yesterday afternoon.
This morning, when I unlocked my screen, I was unable to open a new instance of firefox (already had one running).  I rebooted for the heck of it and that did not help in the least.  Trying to run firefox from the cli gives no errors - I am even unable to call a new window from within firefox itself.  Simply nothing happens.
Please any help would be appreciated.  I really need this to work.  I have too much to get done today for something like this to happen.
    Thanks
    B

Yeah I didn't really want to have to do that.  I've got three apache recompiles to do and a conference call in less than 2 hours.
A bit more info on this.
If I run 'firefox -browser -no-remote' it gives me the old 'Firefox is already running, but is not responding.  To open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process ... yada'
I'm going to try disabling some specific extensions

  • Firefox will not install, extracting starts and reaches 99% but then the window closes and it does nothing.

I have run as administrator, compatibility everything.
I cannot get past the extracting phase.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is interfering with the installation of Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes installing work.

  • CS2 will neither read nor save any files

I am running CS2 on a G4 desktop using 10.3.9. Running in my user space I cannot either open or save photo files (I created one from the clipboard to try saving). I even uninstalled and reinstalled the entire suite. I've tried trashing preference files and any anything else that seems pertinent. I have fixed the permisssions, and defragmented the disk. All other applications, including the Adobe ones, work fine.
Photoshop also works fine for one other user account on my machine.
Any suggestions short of creating a new account and moving all my files?
    Thanks

"Archive & Install" is not exactly a "drastic step" it takes all of 45 minutes!
But definitely do Repair Permissions, empty caches, run DiskWarrior and trash Prefs. too.

Hello, we have just got a nano to replace a 3rd gen iPod.
I have around 50 gigs of music on a lacie USB drive, and the music plays flawlessly from here in iTunes.
However once imported into the nano, there is distortion, jumps and clicks in the music and sometimes the song will just stop and start from the beginning.
    Any ideas?

When applying a transition between particular clips it only applies to the end of the previous clip and will neither 'Center on Edit' nor 'Start on Edit'. I'm kind new to FCE 4 so please excuse my inexperience.

This indicates that you only have handles available on one side of the edit point. If the transition ends on the edit, that means that the next shop begins on the first frame of the media file and there is no room for it to extend and create the necessary overlap.
