Firefox will not open a bookmark in a new tab even though it is set in tools to do this.

I had problems yesterday and "Norton" logged into my machine. Today when I click on a bookmark, it opens in the same tab.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

I recently downloaded a book and it will not open due to being incorrectly formatted. Even though I downloaded this FROM iTunes!!!! What is going on, I have the latest OS and iBook version....??????????

My Firefox will not open at all. I can't even get in to my user Profile to change that and see if it helps. All of my bookmarks and passwords are saved there!

I did a Windows update this am. As soon as that was completed, my Firefox froze and wouldn't respond at all. I had to close it out. After I tried to reopen it, and it won't open at all. I try to uninstall it to reinstall and it says "Firefox must be closed to complete this task". I checked in my task manager and Firefox isn't running any more. Firefox will not open after unlocking Sempron

After upgrading to a new motherboard and unlocking Sempron processor, Firefox will not open. I have tried Firefox (safe mode) and rolled back to a previous version, but to no avail. It worked fine when I ran the Sempron 140 as a single core (even overclocked to 3.17ghz) on Biostar A785GE motherboard. I cannot find a crash ID to link to.

Maybe you restored to a version of Firefox that crashes or still have a virus problem.
(irrc some Firefox versions specifically had problems after Windows restores)
Follow up checking for malware and then try re-installing Firefox. I would also suggest you make a copy of your [[profiles|profile]] including all folders and sub files and put it somewhere safe as it may assist in restoring your bookmarks and information.

Firefox will not open to home page as set in the settings. Even in safe mode, it still will not open to home page as directed. It seems to want to open to last set of tabs, even though that is not the way it was set in settings. It seems as though the settings do not have any impact on the way it behaves!!!

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Thank you for your question. I understand after you reset Firefox, that Firefox will not open up on one of the accounts on this computer.

To test to see if the problem is the profile, use the Profile Manager to create a new profile. [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]] If the problem goes away, you can then move your bookmarks and other important settings into the new profile.

I resolved the problem. I went to CNet and re-downloaded the upgrade. It proceeded as intended and the upgrade is installed and running with no loss of plug-ins, bookmarks, etc.

My Mozilla Firefox will not open any windows, although it does start and show as running in my task manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice now and restarted my computer twice.
I CANNOT start Firefox in safe mode by holding down shift or using the "firefox/safe" in the run box.
I've tried it with applications closed, and open....I've tried it online and offline, I tried to run it in compatibility mode, I checked my computer for viruses...nothing helps.
I have read every troubleshooting item here but they only say try safe mode, or do something from Firefox when it is open such as reset it. I have no add-ons or extensions on Firefox and it just worked yesterday...also my computer is brand new Windows 8.1 12GB ram 2TB harddrive and everything else works fine.

WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. I upgraded from 3.6.13 to Beta 4.0 and now Firefox will not open at all I tried to uninstall to start again but it will not uninstall either it does nothing.

The fact it will not uninstall appears to be something completely new as nobody I know who uses Firefox has ever encountered this in the past.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

I have installed Firefox ver 4 on a Toshiba laptop running Vista. My problem is when using the mail client that comes with Vista any url in an email message will not load in the browser, a new tab is created and has the url from the mail message but that is as far as I get.
